I had a frustrating experience at this Express location. While I was in the fitting room, an associate knocked loudly and repeatedly asked if everything was okay and if I needed anything. Instead of feeling supported, it felt intrusive and pushy. Throughout the store, several associates approached in a way that made it hard to browse comfortably. Good service should include reading the room and giving customers space. If I need help, I will ask. I hope the team can focus more on awareness and balance so customers can shop without feeling pressured. read more

I bought 2 pairs of denim in length S and they were so long I paid 40 for a hem on one and wanted to exchange to work pants in a length S that fit perfect and they wouldn't make the exchange. Shocked reading these bad reviews, but maybe it was from different employees than the ones we had. My husband and I experienced top-notch customer service at this location. The young gentleman Riley was so attentive and helped my husband and me pull different sizes and looks (my husband is 6'5, so IYKYK). But it didn't stop there, once in the dressing room, the woman whose name escapes me (wearing a Hijab) was so attentive and on it! She made multiple styling suggestions, and we found the perfect outfits for the party we attended later that night in Del Mar. The perfect close to our experience was Mikail at the register. He's so friendly and personable, and he's just the type of hire that keeps customers coming back! It's a shame brick & mortar retail has been in trouble for a while with more stores closing; I miss these awesome personal interactions. Especially in comparison to the internet shopping matrix we've all become bound to. Express Fashion Valley is pretty awful. Tried to return a top by driving to the store since my printer was not working and did not want to pay the shipping fees. I did not have time until after Thanksgiving which caused it to be a day after 30 days from the order date. (Not the arrival at my house date.) The UTC store used to give store credit however the lady at Fashion Valley said they had a strict policy and there was nothing she could do. She also asked me if I wanted her to continue trying on the computer since she already knew there was nothing she could do. She went on to tell me that I could wear the veil thin material see through top with a beige bra underneath. Yah, that will totally be acceptable at work, a see through white top with a beige bra on display for my staff to ponder, really professional. She was particularly unfriendly. I also had to tell her multiple times that other return item was not past the 30 days and prompt her to do her job. Express quality has taken a nose dive along with their service. I will be shopping elsewhere for work clothes. If the quality of the clothes was not so terrible, poor material and stitching, I would not be returning the garments in the first place. Shoulders should be even and the material should not bunch under your armpit. Even Walmart can sell shirts with sleeves that are the same length. read more

Horrible experience! Recently I had purchased a suit online. I already have several suits from Express that I wear on the daily for work, so I ordered this suit in the same size as all my others. Unfortunately, this particular suit did not fit properly when I received it. Thinking I would have plenty of time to go in and exchange/return it I didn't rush to do so. Little did I know, their exchange/return policy had changed. I went into this store location and the representatives I spoke with shared since it was past the 30 day time period I could not return or exchange my suit. All the tags were intact and I had my receipt of purchase, NOTHING was altered. It didn't matter, there was nothing they could do. I wasn't even interested in getting my money back, I just wanted to get the right size or at least return it and exchange it for something different. As a long time customer for many years and rewards member, I was shocked they wouldn't help me. Instead, they referred me to Customer Service and said "they will work with you to get you an exchange." When I contacted Customer Service, they were no help whatsoever and shared their policy is final. The representative over the phone shared that if I went into a store, it would be up to manager's discretion to process the exchange/return. I even tried emailing them at express@em.express.com and NO RESPONSE. Now I am out $300 with a suit I have no use for. I was in desperate search for a very hard to find dusty blue grey tie for my wedding less then 20 days away. Not only did he go above and beyond and find me items that weren't even on the floor, but he did it in warp speed with the most welcoming and endearing smile and attitude. Shopping is tough especially these days with low inventory in the stores. Francisco was incredible and made my shopping experience better then anticipated. Needed to get items right away for work and inventory on my size was difficult to find. Francisco went through the whole store to help me and also went to the back and found pants that would work for me. He made my day!! He energy, kindness, patience, understanding and hard work was not unnoticed at all. I was extremely impressed and grateful for his care. You can tell he makes everyone smile. We usually only buy stuff here when they have sales, sometimes it's anywhere between 30% to even 50% off everything in store. Especially around the holidays! We like Express because they truly do have good quality clothing, but at full price they are hefty price tags. We always find something we like in Mens and Womens sections. They also have a good inventory of shoes and accessories. And their sale/clearance section is okay. You might find one or two items worth buying. Overall, always good to check for sales! read more

Cute conservative business clothes. Not for me, cz i dont have the right body type for their clothes. The jeans are either perfect on the hips but tight on the legs or vice versa. Their small is either too small and the medium is too big (maybe cz i'm flat chested). I would love to wear their clothes for work, but i don't have the figure. At least they have cute accessories, but definitely not worth the price. I came in here cz their white pencil skirt caught my attention. New location is upstairs. The old location is all boarded up and at first I panicked because I thought Express no longer existed at Fashion Valley. I went up the escalator by Bloomingdales, turned left, and surprise!.....a new Express. The mall directory has not been updated to reflect the new location as of today. There is a separate entrance for the men's section and then the men's and women's departments come together again in the back of the store at the checkout. The employees are friendly and helpful. I've always been greeted when walking into the store. I was in today to return some online items. I was able to return them hassle free. As soon as the line had more than 1 person waiting another cashier was called to the back to help with checkout. The layout of this store is awesome. Everything is extremely organized and makes shopping here much easier. There are separate sections for different types of items which makes it easier. The layout is much better than the old store! My favorite place to shop has just become even better! read more

Let me start by saying that I love Express' clothing! I love the chain. In fact, I just spent over $200 on work shirts in the store this afternoon. My issue is with the customer service [or lack thereof] at this particular location. The is the 3rd time (out of my last four trips) that I've gone in, spent several hundred dollars, and not one employee even so much as acknowledge me. I still did three stars, because I love the quality of the clothes the company provides, and I soooo want to give them 5 stars. Alas, I'm over not getting any customer service. This last trip in particular, though: No one greeted me, and one male employee on the floor walked past me several times (even looking at me a couple times) without any acknowledgement whatsoever. When I was rang up by a female employee, she didn't ask who helped me. She asked for my rewards phone number. I couldn't remember my old number that it's under. So she didn't offer to find it another way, or update my old number. She just didn't give me the reward points... which sucks, because that's a lot of points forfeited. I'll continue to shop at Express, because I love Express. Just maybe a different location (even if it's out of the way) until this store improves their customer service. read more

The manager here is ridiculous. Instead of apologizing and explaining to me their store wide policies about price adjustments, she made me feel attacked and pretty much said this is a reason why we're not doing your price adjustment.. next time bring your stuff in. Their price adjustment requires you to bring in all your items return them and repurchase them all over again which is really dumb and on top of that, she decides to rub it in my face by telling me, oh and also you'll lose the $10 reward that you had used. Worst customer service experience of my life here at the Fashion Valley Express. I left a personal belonging of mine in one of their dressing rooms and returned ONE MINUTE later to retrieve it. It was completely missing and their customer service reps proceeded to treat me disrespectfully. Turning their backs on me while I was trying to talk to them and just all around devaluing me as a customer. Because of this treatment, I strongly believe that one of their employees, who claims to check dressing rooms after each user, stole my property. I will never shop here again. No effort was made to rectify the situation or keep me as a customer. I'm aware it's my responsibility to keep track of my personal belongings while I'm shopping, but the treatment by their staff and management was appalling. Never again. read more

This is my go-to absolutely favorite store. They have a larger inventory than the one at Mission Valley. However, the store at Mission Valley sometimes have more of the sizes I want in-stock just because not as many people shop there. They moved locations! Now they're upstairs next to Bloomingdales, across from Forever21. The new store looks a lot more clean, organized, and better. The customer service here is great 95% of the time. About 85% of my closet is full of clothes from Express. The quality is great majority of the time. I had only throw out a few times because of long term use and clothes don't last forever. However, I still have tops and jeans that have lasted me a few years and still look great! Express may seem pricey but it's not that pricey. They have end of the season sales where items are up to 70% off and there's an additional percentage off, making the price very reasonable. I also never buy anything full price because you can usually find them 30% or 40% off or even buy one get on 50% off, etc. Then you just use a coupon on top of that and the discount is even better. Unfortunately, you can't use coupons on store-wide sales (that's usually when the whole store is 40% off or 50% off or their 5 days to save type event) but it doesn't hurt to ask! I got a London sweater for about $21 with the original price tag of ~$60. My friends tend to like shopping with me at Express because I can usually find them good deals ;) read more

Love to treat my daughters to a shopping trip at this Express location, which has lots of selection. Labor Day weekend sale meant everything was 40% off. Staff is pleasant. Clothing at Express is higher quality than clothing at Forever 21. Tops and pants from Express last through many washings. The bouncy music energizes customers. (-; Clothes at Express can be dressed up or down, so that you can go casual or a little more dressy. They have some classic items which won't go out of style before you grow tired of them. There's plenty of black, if you like to mix colors with basic black. Express often has sales after Christmas as well. I think the clothes here have definitely gone downhill in quality and style over the years. I have stuff from a couple of years ago and they hold up really well. Now, they've definitely been cutting corners. The suits aren't done in a flattering cut. The stuff is great if you have those random coupons, but seriously. 25 dollars off of your next 50 dollar purchase if you buy more than 75 dollars today? That's not much of a discount! Last Monday... on a VERY rainy San Diego day while the rest of the city hid inside from the torrential downpour I braved the raindrops and headed to the Fashion Valley Mall in search of a cute new shirt for a job interview I had on Tuesday. Store after store, ducking in and out of the rain... I finally found myself wet and frustrated - and at my last resort - Express. (**Disclaimer... I usually love Express, it's not normally my last resort but that day, it was the last stop on my route.) After spending a few minutes wandering around the store aimlessly wandering because I had convinced myself I was not going to find what I was looking for... I headed in to the dressing room in hopes of finding something passable. Dina, the sweet girl handling the dressing rooms engaged me in conversation... asking me if there was something specific she could help me find. After describing what I was looking for... she disappeared for a few minutes. Discouraged, I began to give up on the options I already had, and was contemplating putting my own clothes back on when she re-appeared.... with THE PERFECT solution to my clothing conflict. Not only was she was patient, sweet, encouraging and the most helpful person I have come across in a clothing store in a long time... but she listened to what I was looking for, and made an even better version of my idea materialize! Don't hate me, just hear me out. The only reason I shop at Express is for their jeans--tops, fancy pants, etc. I can find at H&M or Forever 21. Their jeans however, are reasonably priced and they come in a wide range of washes and cuts and they cater to 5'3'' and under crowd, such as myself. Forget Seven jeans and True Religion, they're just too long and inexplicably overpriced--but i digress. The jeans at Express keep me coming back time and again and the sole reason i only ever go to the Express in Fashion Valley is because of a wonderful man named WILL. Yes ladies (and fellas) remember this name. Will is a virtual paragon of jean wisdom and fashion, a denim [jean]ie if you will. He will size you up and read your style with a mere glance. Not more than 2 sentences into the conversation he knew that i'm a size 2 and prefer the skinny to the boot cut flare. Frustrated and hopeless he helped me solve my jean dilemma: a body just barely big enough to fit into adult size clothing, large calves, and dressing on a budget. He pulled the exact jeans i had envisioned. I was skeptical about the jeans before i bought them, as i always am, but when he told me he was wearing the same pair, that he vouched for the midnight wash stella skinny jeans, he proved that he believed in what he was selling! He looked great in those jeans, I felt great wearing those jeans, i was sold! If i could rate Will i would give him 5 stars and my phone number so that he could let me know when Express was having a sale. I know, one star after bombass Will? Well i would love to give them negative 5 because of the guy working the dressing room. Let's just call him "Jim, Your Shirt is 2 Sizes too Small". As im being brought to a dressing room, this guy suggests that if i need a guy's oppinion i should come out and talk to him because he knows a lot. Let's face it, that was a load of bull! I needed a different style, so i went to go look for him, though to no avail. I'm impatient and impulsive, so i go out and look for what i need myself. As im doing so i run into "Jim" and tell him what i want. He ends up bringing me the same exact pair that i was already wearing! He wouldn't know the difference between skinnies and flares if i slapped him with a pair--and trust me i was ready to. Fortunately, Will the Denim Jeanie stepped in to help me out and crisis averted, or so i thought. Not only did Jim not know wtf he was doing, but he proved himself to be a perve in the process of being utterly useless. As i was trying the jeans on one last time, he asked me how they fit. He even gave me a little tip which he attempted to demonstrate on me: if you place both your thumbs inside the waist of your jeans with a little bit of wiggle room left over, then they fit. That sick bastard tried to put his hands in my pants! PEOPLE STEER CLEAR OF THE DRESSING ROOM WHEN THIS GUY IS AROUND! In closing, thank you Will for finding me a pair of skinny jeans that fit over my calves, hug my hips, and make my ass look great. I went here on sat to make a return/exchange from my online order. I bought 15 items and was returning 3. The sales associate said he couldn't find my online OR my express credit card by my number and email AND PULLING UP THE ORDER NUMBER ON MY PHONE WITH THE ITEMS LISTED. He then told me that I can only exchange one item per day. Which is super weird bc then I called corp today trying to get ahold of receipt and they said that is NOT the refund policy. That I am WELL in my 90 days and that should have never happened bc they can call corp and get all info they would have needed!!!! They said the order number would have been enough. I put in a formal complaint and hope this will save this happening to someone else. How shady is that? Over the years since the 1990's the quality of their clothing has come down. Now that I recently purchased some casual tops, only after a couple of 1-2 washes they appear so worn out and flimsy. The slacks and jeans are better though. If you actually do head to head comparison of work clothes fabric, how they wash, the pricing, how often you wear them, and return policy, I believe this brand is overrated for the regular price. For work clothes, even if you're in your younger 20's or older Nordstrom is still better quality, service and competitive pricing. read more

I love this store! Everytime I walk in, I walk out with something (not sure if that's a good or bad thing!). I'm always greeted by someone and the staff always seems to be in a great mood. I went to this store today, and had the worst customer experience. For the entire 20 minutes I was there, I was flat out ignored by the staff. Never greeted when I came in, never asked if I needed help or a fitting room set up for me (while I was carrying several items), but noticed that other shoppers WERE being asked these questions and being helped. The only reason I got a fitting room was because I flagged someone down, and they literally opened the door for me and walked off. She never came back to check on me or ask if I needed any help (again, I could hear her talking and saying these things to other customers, but not to me). I guess I didn't have the "look" of what they deemed someone who was worth their time. I actually found an item that I wanted, but instead put it back. No way am I supporting a store that treats me like dirt. I don't know what happened, this store used to be very nice and friendly before they moved upstairs. read more
