I love this store! I love that I can find hello kitty and care bear items! The store is small but well organized. I love all of their merchandise, its a great place to find gifts for others or yourself. I always find a t-shirt or jewelry that I like and this time I found a mini Disney backpack! They have items for small kids too. My daughter scored a care bear necklace. They also always have items with discounts or on clearance. Staff was as friendly as ever. They require masks at this time. The store is convienently located in an outdoor shopping mall. I will be back on my next visit to this outdoor mall. read more

The female manager here with the green hair is probably the rudest person ever. I bought a shirt online which was too small for me so I tried to return it here. She said because I tried it on to see if it fits I can't return it. Another time she said I can't use hot cash on a funko pop ride. But yet I was able to buy it online with it. Another time she was on register saw me and said someone else can help me and I waited 10 mins for someone to come to the register. Was out doing a little shopping for my granddaughters birthday. Popped in to Hot Topic to see what's trending and OMG they had a whole section dedicated to Stranger Things!!! So I'm looking around checking out there selection called my girls that live in another country to see what they might like so I asked one of the sales girls if she could hold my phone so I could show them the Robin Halloween costume!! She was ssssoooo annoyed that I dare speak to her let only ask for assistance. From what I could tell she was mad because I was pulling out the shirts so I could she all the designs most of which I was planning to buy. And I was careful to put them back as neatly as possible. All in all would have been about a $250 purchase. But instead I left purchasing nothing. I will never shop at this store again!! Ok, so I admit it. I had preconceived ideas about Hot Topic. It just seemed like a store that catered to people with different interests than what I was into. It's not that I disliked it, it just wasn't me....or so I thought. Turns out, much of what they carry reminds me of all the random nick-knacks and quirky things you would find in the little stores in Japan....not to mention that they carry Hello Kitty clothes and accessories *squeals* The also have cute thigh highs with bows.....cute! :D I ended up buying a Hello Kitty shirt and talked up the cashier girl who was as into Hello Kitty as I was, it was fun and I will be back. I know some people, namely my family, roll their eyes at yet another hello kitty thing I buy but I can't help it! I don't really come here but it's Comic Con weekend and I was looking for a Superman tank top. Sadly, they only had a t-shirt but I do like the different shirts they have! I did see a lot of cool tank tops and shirts. But I didn't buy them. They were in the girls section! They should consider expanding their guys section to include more tank tops. Employees are very nice and they go out of their way to help you find what you want. Space is a premium and it can be hard to move around when it's crowded. But I think it's part of the charm. I will definitely come in regularly to see their new arrivals and other cool stuff! read more

I don't shop here regularly but I had to come in for some novelty items for a St.Patricks event I'm working this weekend. KARI IS THE SCHMIDT!! She was sooo nice and soooo helpful when I called in. She helped me look up an item that I found online. She hunted down my size in the store (it was the last one) and held it for me until I came that afternoon. When I finally came in she helped me from start to finish. I didn't catch the other girl's name but she was an adorble little thing with lilac hair. These ladies gave amazing customer service. In the future I could easily go to the Hot Topic in Horton Plaza which is RIGHT next to my work but I'll definitely schlepp to the Mission Valley store to see these girls again. Rad. read more

A MTV punk metal store holding onto mainstream media and hipster fashion. There are some gaming or anime t-shirts here that I could casually wear...but majority of the clothing/articles I spot here are not exactly a common article...unless I dress up. There are a few things here I could use when I do costumes, but not a lot. Mainly the clothing is aimed towards the punk metal, or kind of the goth/emo crowd. Strange enough the store does include other various merchandise such as Funko pop figures, glasses, and other random toys. Speaking of FUNKO, Hot Topic has a lot of figures on display...but when I had explored the ones on display they were mishandled and the cases/boxes were ripped or bent or had some other damage done to it. If you are collecting/trading check with an employee to see if they can check stock in the back. Other toys/merchandise I spotted was related to Dragonball Z, My Little Pony, and Doctor Who. To me this store has more appeal to a younger crowd, and there are only rare articles here for me. I dont come here on a regular basis, but when I do i tend to just stick to a few items. I really love their shirts, wished they had more tank tops and more selection for the guys. the girls side of the store has all the tank tops and shirts with characters that i would love to have. im a huge fan of Sailor Moon and getting an awesome tank top of sailor moon would be nice, but only have girl sizes. Same goes for most of their theme clothing. Found this really cool shirt from harry potter, its a black tank with the "dark mark" on it, but sadly its only for girls! Booo! hot topic booooo! other than that, its still a pretty cool, dark and crowded place to buy clothing or other items of your favorite characters, shows or memes. The employees are very nice and agree with me that the guys side of the store has nothing compare to the women side! Not all Disney Fans and Animation Freaks are girls, there are a few of us guys out there. ended up with a Triforce Green Shirt representing the Zelda Games. I don't usually write reviews, but being in retail myself, I felt this had to be done. I went in today to exchange a watch I bought for my nephew as a Christmas present. He wore it for a day and it broke I had the receipt no big deal. I get to the store and the first associate was extremely helpful but they didn't have the watch and tried to find it at an other store to no avail. So I was passed to the "manager" and I use that term loosely because he was unhelpful and actually suggested I pay more money to have it repaired. And couldn't order it for me online. read more

Funny, nice and helpful staff. When there's a sale, it's the first thing they tell you (and not in a condescending or rude tone). Not sure why the layout seems confusing to some, I've been to some HT stores with crazy layouts... but this is probably the most simple: guys on the left, girls on the right, accessories in the middle. Protip: there is a computer on the wall that lets you shop online and send it directly to the store for (if memory serves me right) $1 shipping. I used to think that a Hot Topic was a Hot Topic was a Hot Topic. But this is my favorite! The staff is super nice and helpful plus they always have cool stuff. Some Hot Topics only have dumb stuff like Care Bears or My Little Pony. But this one has a more well rounded selection. Sure, they've got the dumb stuff but also cute (well, if you like punk) clothes, body jewelry, band shirts, even some anime stuff. Definitely one of my favorite stores in the whole mall. read more

This place of course brings back many old memories but it's a great place to find many pop culture items that the main stream stores don't carry. My kid love to shop for her "Weird" teenage things. LOL Trever is an amazing associate willing to please a customer with any reasonable requests. It makes me smile to see an employee who can smile and make a young kid feel like everything she says is the most important thing said. I'm an avid hot topic shopper since my junior high days many many years ago but I don't always come across the best customer service unfortunately. Luckily, this location always delivers awesome customer service. I'm a slightly older gal now so I don't quite fit the teenager scheme their landscape mostly seems to cater to but nevertheless, their sales associates are always great. They know their products, they'll offer to check other stores, and they're just very helpful. The store is cramped with tons of stuff but it's organized so it's easy to find what you're interested in. I do wish they had more shirts for certain older alternative bands but that's fine. I can just go online. But if you're a Disney freak, they have great finds you can't get anywhere else. Even Disneyland recommends hot topic. They also have some great anime finds for shows like "Sword Art Online" or "Black Butler." I really like the Mission Valley location and I will continue to shop there. read more

Shopping is fun, especially when you're given the best customer servic! Today was one of those days! I walked into the store with my friend and were immediately greeted by a guy named Miles. Miles helped us by getting a ton of clothes down from the wall. We felt bad for asking for so many things, but, he was incredibly patient. When we paid for our items, he made conversation with us. THAT is a great way to keep me coming back! He joked with us, smiled, and let us know of future promotions, etc. THAT'S also terrific customer service! Nothing against this Hot Topic specificity, but I was sitting outside this particular one while my kids shopped for Dr Who and Anime stuff, when I noticed a woman is a wheel chair not able to enter the store. The aisles are so crowned with stuff, and so all, that she was not even able to get one foot into the store before she had to stop, and leave the store. I am sure all Hot Topics would be the same, because they pack so much can stuff into a small space. In this day and age, it is not acceptable to have a place so unfriendly to handicapped patrons. Awful service. Picked up a shirt from their $ 10 rack that I had my eye on a couple of weeks back. Waited almost 10 mins at the register because staff was too busy talking to each other. Finally got to the counter where a lady rang the shirt and said it was regular price. She then went on to say that I should try looking at other shirts and basically shoved me away. There is only one MVP in Basketball and Football but at this Hot Topic there is multiple MVP's. Props for always making sure my pop boxes are so perfect that even God himself will be impressed. Now although hot topic's selection has gone to hell, the employees have always been extremely kind and helpful. Went in today with my cousin and were helped by Crystal who noticed our helpless faces right away. Super friendly, super funny, and informed us of things that got us a better deal despite the store being as busy as it was. If it wasnt so sardine packed i would have given her a highfive and a thank you note. Later on we came back with more coupons and we were helped by Trevor. Once again, great customer service and patience. I have never had one complaint (other than selection of band tees and lack of good quality rings) about the store. I am a fan of HT for their original style of everything. I went in for my most recent purchase of fashion jewelry (Two choker style necklaces) and was very disappointed when I noticed that on the receipt, it said that the chemicals the necklaces contained were harmful. I drove all of the way back home to return the two items. The employees here are always kind and helpful, the store is really fun and clean, there is nothing bad about the store in any other way to my knowledge..just sad about the harmful chemicals used, as I always relied on coming here for jewelry that stands out. read more

I went into this store to return a Halloween mask that I hadn't worn/used. The tag said that it was returnable as long as I had the receipt and the tags were attached (check and check). The sales clerk told me that the item could not be returned so I showed her the tag. She called over a manager because she didn't know what to do, and he told me that Halloween items are not ever returnable, citing the printing on the top of my receipt. As a customer given conflicting information, I would think that they would accommodate my return to keep me happy, but no luck. I was told sorry (not very genuinely) and that was that. I know that processing returns sucks when you work retail but it's still a service industry and the customer should come first. I don't think I'll visit this location again... read more
