Had a suspected lint block in my basement drain. Submitted an appointment request online after hours and got a call the very next morning to schedule. They don't charge to come out and assess and give an estimate. I was relieved that I was correct in my assessment of lint, and already had a safe guard in place for moving forward. Was also told there's no way a snake would've cleared it, so I was fine with paying $229. Whatever, better than a bigger problem! And they don't charge a card fee. read more

I used Roto Rooter when I had several inches of water in my crawl space. The only good thing I can say is that they showed up when they said they would. It went downhill quickly from there. I was told they would suction the water into one of their septic tank trucks and haul the water away. Instead, I came home the day they began working and found them draining the water into my backyard. I was furious. (The water table was still very high so it probably went right back into the crawl space). It left a 2 foot sink hole in my yard where they dumped the water. The next day, they brought a longer hose and pumped it into the river. I had 10 different technicians standing around during the 2 days they were here all watching their cell phones and smoking cigarettes while the water was being pumped out of the crawl space. Really? Did it take that many technicians to watch a pump do the work? They brought in dehumidifiers and wanted to have more technicians vacuum the floor joists so that they could paint the floor joists with Killz. I called my flood insurance and they said that would NOT be covered by insurance. I got the bill. They listed the 10 technicians who were here. There was no itemization on the bill. Only a total amount of $8,000. They said protective gear had to be worn because it was "black water." They said this meant it was contaminated with harmful bacteria and disease-causing toxins. Really? Why did you dump it into the river then?? Don't make the same mistake I made by hiring them. Wish I read the reviews. read more

They told me I needed to do a 16000$ epoxy repair to a pipe. They presented financing options, an emergency contract waiving my rights etc I got a second opinion. Entire problem was that they simply didn't clear a tree root ball further down the pipe. Always get second opinions when dealing with roto rooter! I would have made an expensive and irreversible mistake if I went with their contract. I'm actually pissed. read more

Nate does not stick to his word. The Feild Supervisor said he would have a truck wilh gravel to fill up a 24 cu ft hole they left in a shared driveway. They over charged my retired neighbor and underperformed in follow up work. Get a contract if they dig a hole saying they will fill any settling. The never tamped an 8ft hole. Now it is a two ft hole in share driveway. Overcharged and underperform. read more

This company has been screwing around with my daughter for 8 months now. They tried committing insurance fraud and when it didn't work, they dug up and destroyed her bathtub and then left her with the bill for that. I would NOT recommend this company AT ALL. ESPECIALLY if they try to do water/mold "mitigation". They left the bathroom in worse shape than it was with the leak. I could have built her a house by now. Worst experience ever. Liars and thieves! I had a main pipe overflow, and they were supposed to fix the damaged pipe and tear out the damaged areas in my house. I was given an estimate for 1,200.00 and AFTER they had my pipe cut in half would not fix it for less than 2,400.00. They unplugged my deep freezer damaging $500.00 worth of meat. I was promised a reimbursement check which never came. They damaged my stainless-steel refrigerator. They broke several of my dishes. They damaged my dining room floor. The worst part of it all is after the contractor that THEY recommended came to give me an estimate they said the plumbing was not correct. After contacting the regional manager (TODD) he promised me three times the plumber would be back the very next day. No one has been back. my next actions are calling the BBB and possibly small claims court!! read more

I was asked to update my 1 star review once I received the check that they owed me for poking holes in my tub and ruining my drain with grout, tile and other debris AND THEN coming in and cutting my bathtub into 3rds to remove it and destroy it and while leaving our house, saying "have fun paying for that yourself" The field manager TOM had promised me this would all be covered by insurance. All of it. They've ruined many parts of my bathroom doing their "remediation process" that was not fixed by insurance because it's due Roto Rooter's neglect and unprofessional way of doing things, not due to water damage. this includes our vanity. And because it took so long between Roto Rooter, the managers and bosses and now their own corporate and their owners to get this figured out with insurance and my family, the vanity that was going to replace the one they tore up and removed for no reason other than their negligence is now $600 more than it was before. They have screwed me for much more than the check they're supposed to be sending me. So when Roto-Rooter tells you that they need to do remediation and that insurance will cover it all (or even a little bit) and they have a nice smile on their face, don't do it. Especially keeping in mind that most insurance companies will drop you after two large claims. Do you really want to waste one of them on something that's gonna make your house worse? They'll just wreck your home and leave it to you to fix. Todd S. said that he would send the check when we spoke on March 19. I checked with him to see when he sent it and his reply was "it was processed this week." this was on March 28. In Laymans terms it means I have no intention of sending you a check otherwise I would've sent it last Thursday when I told you I would.. I ordered a package from Greece last week and have already received it. how long do you think it takes to send a normal sized piece of mail from Rockford to Loves Park, two borders that are touching? At this point, unless someone comes and hands me a check directly in my hands by Monday, I'm going to protect all potential customers from the same damage and disrespect that was done to our house and our family. Absolutely predatory company. My parents had a sewer pipe issue going to the street. Several men came in a lied to my elderly father in law about the repairs that were necessary. Thankfully an old neighbor who works for the local water dept saw the Julie marks and stopped in to discuss what was going on. He gave them a reputable company instead. Very predatory company. I did some work with a homeowner, which involved a tiny leak in the upstairs bathroom that barely stained the kitchen ceiling with a slight brown spot, and did not affect the flooring at all. A guy named Mark Sweet came out and convinced her it was at least $8,000 worth of damage but the insurance company would take care of everything, and that he would be ripping up her flooring, her entire ceiling, and the entire bathroom floor upstairs. In reality the only thing she needed was to get the leak fixed ($200-$300), and then have the kitchen ceiling repainted. Mark pressured her to sign, which she did, but then she thankfully discovered that she had 48 hours to null and void the contract, which she did. She also called the attorney general's office. Had a blockage in my underground sump pump discharge pipe. Called noon on Saturday and said someone could be here between 3 and 7 with a free estimate and no extra charge for weekend. Arrived around 4 and Sairhi quoted a price and due to the short length we negotiated a price at less than 1/2. Did a first pass and removed a few roots and she felt there were more. Got out a larger unit and removed a big group of roots. She wanted to double check and we added water to the sump pit. It discharged into the sewer with no problem. She was very professional and I am very happy with the job. Would highly recommend them. read more

Imagine a contractor quoting you based on completing 3 things. 2 Pipes and a new floor drain. I went over the scope of work 3 times. You sign the unclear digital contract on their iPad. Contractor says they're finished. You ask for a photo of the work and they hang up the phone. You get there and they replaced 1 pipe and no floor drain (a fraction of the work) Estimated cost from another plumber $500. They still charge you the full $1,609.92 and say that they recorded you. Feels predatory. I don't recommend!!! I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews here. Might be time for class action! read more

And the guy came out I explained what was going on he turned around and told having run my sink and my tub and said the drain was clear during the discussion before he was looking for anything like he was looking for anything to charge me try saying he had to go through my toilet because my washer was on my outflow and other things got serious they were told I got told that I had to pay even more money even though the guy had been hadn't done anything and she never got charged $58 for him to tell me to run my water I would never do business with this company again read more

Plumber was professional but came by twice for kitchen clog. Said it was fixed but said of not, a rerouting/ replacement of a valve needed. Problem continued. My 80 year old father came by with his Menards purchased router. Fixed the problem in a few minutes. Big waste of the over inflated price of 250 plus recommendation of unnecessary fixes. Do not use this company! They were scheduled to replace a low spot in a pipe connecting our sewer pipe to the city's on may 15th & 16th. After a few cancelations they showed up about a week later. They ran into problems while digging and a 24x4 foot hole became a hole over 40 by 60 feet! They finished the job at around 10 pm(under the supervision of Dave Guse) so we had no idea the damage they did. Stupidly we paid them that night when they came in to say the job was finished! The next day when we saw the destruction we called and were told they don't do "finishings". After I sent pictures and videos (of the holes,tracks in our neighbors's yard, a lamppost still connected thrown haphazardly,old chunks of sewer pipe everywhere, clumps of dirt and grass everywhere including our neighbors yard, a ledge about a foot high, and more )they agreed to come back out in a week or so! As you can imagine we were very upset and left a review on facebook. This prompted them to come out 2 days later. Dave Guse(the operations manager) arrived with a bobcat. Within a few minutes it was obvious he didn't know how to use this machine. He attempted to build a mound and then tried to use a garden rake to flatten it. Dave assured me they would stay as long as it took to finish things, but would take a lunch around noon. At 11:30 I left to take my son to preschool, when I returned they were gone. I assumed they were on lunch, but they never came back! We live a block from a school and our sidewalk was impassable for kids to walk to & from school. It was covered in lumps of dirt, Dave Guse broke it in a spot creating a hole. There is also a large divet on the far side of our lawn. Since they did not properly fill the massive hole both our sidewalks are sinking. When it rains the sidewalk near the street fills with water a few inches deep from our driveway halfway down our neighbors yard. We cannot use the front door because the rain also pools on the sidewalk from the door to our driveway. And there is no way to avoid it because our whole yard is mud! We have tried contacting corporate,but were told they are a franchise so corporate has no power. We have tried multiple times to go above the operations manager Dave Guse, but have been unsuccessful. They finally agreed to get quotes from landscapers. David Guse showed up to one meeting with a landscaper and missed the appointment he set with the second one. After 2 weeks he claimed he could not get in touch with the 4 landscapers he had out to do quotes, but would keep trying. A week later he informed us a guy they are doing work for has a landscaping buisness and agreed to take the job. The landscaper came over and gave them a quote & set a date to do the work while we would be on vacation. We asked to have it in writing if the landscaper caused any damage we would not be liable. Dave Guse assured us he'd have it to us before we left...he never got it to us. We returned from vacation 10 days ago I have called the office explaining the situation and demanding someone besides Dave Guse get this done everyday. The only contact I have recieved is when Dave Guse left me a VM saying that he could've had the landscapers out but we were on vacation(we offered to delay our vacation to get this resolved). He promised the landscapers would be out last week, no one came. Today we found out he noted in our account the issue had been resolved! Our yard is destroyed,they have failed to finish the descaling of our pipes and have been paid in full($4567)Save yourself the headache and call someone else! read more

Would leave 0 stars if that was an option. Had a back up on our basement. I happened to be at work and my wife called Roto Rooter because that's a name she knows. Tech came out, talked down to my wife and told her the issue was with our septic tank and that it needed to be emptied, even though we just had it emptied a few weeks ago. My wife got the septic company on the phone, they told her what to look for and told her the septic was fine. Guy continued to talk down to my wife, did about 10 minutes of actual work, and more lecturing. They left and didn't even get all the clogs out. Insanely priced for 10 minutes worth of work and to be condescending to the customer. Called to speak with a manager and they said they would call back and never did. I called a second time and they were condescending to me on the phone as well. How this company has been in business this long I don't k know, will definitely call a local guy next time. read more

I've had a number of plumbing projects tackled, including bathroom water line valve replacements, hot water tank replacement, installing an in-wall laundry water line and drain box all without problem and much more reasonably priced than I've had quoted elsewhere. This review is for the Forest Hills, Loves Park franchise. Manager-Dave Guse. I requested a service call and was given a date and time. I was told my plumber would arrive between 10 and 12 noon. I left work to come home to be available for that service call. By 12:45 , no plumber. I called them to find out where he was. They did nof offer any apology for the inconvenience and stated the plumber was running late due to too many emergencies. By now, I have loss more than 2 hours of wages. Plumber finally arrived at 1:25. He was here for under 15 mins. He put a piece of teflon tape around the leak and said he could not promise this would work. He then gave me a bill for $108. 4 hours later the leak started again. I contacted the office and was told due to the weekend I should email my concern. I did that. (3 times.) Dave the manager, would not respond to my emails addressing my concerns. I refused to pay for this inadequate service. I suggested an adjustment in the bill given they suppposedly guarantee their work. Dave only replied per phone call threatening me. Dave lacks integrity and has little regard for the customers. It appears the goal is to see how many service calls they can make in a day having no regard for their customers time. I will complain all the way to cooperate for this unpleasant, inadequate service. This is a scam. Use a different franchise or a different company. read more

"You should have called a real plumber." That's the first thing that came out of people's mouth when I tell them about the issues that I had with Roto Rooters. I called them out to take care of the backed up pipe in my restaurant. I was informed that Roto Rooter were called to fix the same problem 2 months earlier. The plumber, Brian came out and got to work. He attempted to fix the problem for 1-2 hours by snaking the pipes through our grease trap. In his attempt to unclog the pipes, he managed to get grease residue all over the floor, door knob, storage containers, and etc. After 2 hours, he informed me that he was done. I thought that he unblocked the pipes so I turned on the water to see how fast the water was draining. It wasn't. It was the same as before get tried to fix it. He demanded his fee of $300 for his attempt at unclogging the pipes. He said that our grease trap was full, but we had it cleaned out 2 weeks before he got there. He said that he needed to get a pressuring system to blast the pipes. When I asked him if he was going to go and get it he said he didn't have it and that it was too big to fit inside the store. Anyways, I refused to pay and he left angry. After he left, I called the Roto Rooter and told the dispatcher about our dispute over the bill. He said he would call me back. He never did. Two days later, the health inspector shows up at my store with a complaint that our grease trap was full and in violation with the county code. Although the inspector didn't tell me who made the complaint, I can think of only one person who would make a complaint against the restaurant, Brian from Roto Rooter. I wasn't worried because I had a copy of our most recent grease trap cleaning which was completed 2 weeks ago. I thought this was the most and completely unprofessional behavior from a business! Long story short, I called Frinks and they came out to fix the problem in less than 30 minutes and the pressuring tool they had was a small handheld device. I will never call Roto Rooter for my plumbing service or recommend it to anyone I know. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. I specifically chose this location after calling around to see if I could post date a check. I had septic issues and plumbing issues at the same time and needed someone that was willing to work with me due to an emergency situation. I spoke with who I believe to be the manager of the location and he told me that they would hold the check for the time I needed and they would be out the next morning. They did end up showing up and fixing the issue, but they cashed the check anyways! My receipt from the tech showed it was a post dated check! Dealt with 2 of my local locations for 20 years and always had good service. However today I called to have a floor drain cleared and ended up at "central dispatch" with a recording telling me my call was being recorded....really! Operator started playing 30 questions including...how did you hear about roto rooter??? Once again...really! I just want to have a drain cleared!! Operator told me someone would call back and they did call...form Ohio! one hour later only to tell me they had no one available until this evening. In 20 years of dealing with this company I have NEVER had this kind of experience. I called another local company who informed me that my local locations have sold out....well that explains that! Shortly after that a region VP of sewer clearing calls me to apologize...too late and never again...I deal with enough corporate BS as it is and do not need it when a call a plumber.
