Roughhouse Brewing is one of those places that instantly feels like a little getaway. It has the sweetest Hill Country charm -- open spaces, live oaks, laid-back vibes, and the kind of friendly atmosphere that makes you want to stay all afternoon. The beer is so good -- super refreshing, thoughtfully brewed, and full of flavor without being heavy. Whether you're into crisp lagers, funky farmhouse ales, or something unique, there's always something worth trying. The staff is also incredibly kind and patient, especially if you're indecisive like me and want to sample everything first! And the FOOD? Shockingly delicious for a brewery. It feels homemade, cozy, and pairs perfectly with a cold drink. The whole place is super kid- and dog-friendly, which makes it feel more like visiting a friend's ranch than going to a bar. Picnic tables, string lights, wide-open space -- literally the cutest spot for a date, family hangout, or catching up with friends.
This was one of my favorite places I visited on my recent trip to Texas. This lovely brewery near Driftwood has great beer, food, and the most delicious chocolate chip cookies they baked in house. The beers are unique with great flavor. The property itself is very peaceful and there's a lot of open outdoor seating. The service was great, people behind the bar are very friendly. I highly recommend this spot :) we had a great time here for a few hours just hanging out with friends.
Incredible space. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and intend on bringing the entire family back. The grounds themselves are impeccably maintained, not to mention a safe haven for butterflies, they're everywhere. They have a lovely garden area, an outdoor stage and great play area for kids. The staff is super friendly, and I love all the little attention to details, like all the ladies room necessities. We didn't have any food this visit but look forward to going back for Friday pizza night!
So this place is a little out-of-the-way, which makes it even better for stargazing or feel like your out of town to enjoy some awesome atmosphere and leave your worries at home. There's a pop-up pizza place. It was so good. Their sausage pizza was just so flavorful. The crust of it was nicely chard in such a good way. The texture was chewy and just right it has a sourdough taste. I also got the Primavera pizza. I was pleasantly surprised with the lemon notes, asparagus just everything about it was perfect and something not commonly seen on a pizza. The service was nice. I will definitely make another trip there just for that Primavera.
What a beautiful place to grab a beer. Lots of space for kids and dogs to run around and great photo opportunities. It looked like a great, large covered stage area with cute lights strung up. There is some seating inside at tables and the bar in the air conditioning. I'm not sure if they rent out for events, but it would be a truly magical perfect place to do an event. All our questions were answered and we received our items in a speedy fashion. Gotta love a brewery that offers flights. We also were able to try a few beers as we were choosing our flights. The Honeycrumb was my favorite beer, and my second place would probably go to Treeform. They offer some ciders and some non alcoholic options as well. We ordered the Pastrami sandwich and the BBQ Pulled Pork tacos. Both were fairly oily, but flavorful and filling.
Listen, I loved this place! I was stopping in on the way to meet some friends in a nearby town and I'm so happy I did. Everyone inside was super nice. Music was great on their playlist .. so I got the nachos and their flagship IPA (see stickers!). Both were really good! I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Apparently they have activities, fireworks, things like that on the weekends too. They are dog friendly outside. I had a lighter beer too... maybe a Kolsch? The beers were really good and I was expecting ok. Go check them out!
This was our second time here, the first time years ago when we built out house at the lake. That time it was a little lacking for staff and food, but we were pleasantly surprised on the strides made since then. We tried several beers, and each was very good. I'm a Lager guy, but their Pilsner offering was definitely a winner. We had some sandwiches, mine was The Hammer, which was ham, Swiss and American cheese, with spicy mustard and pickle which made it very much like a Cuban (my fav sandwich). We sat outside and it was warm but under the umbrella it wasn't bad. My only complaint is the tables are low to the ground. I'm 6'3" and even those shorter than me felt like we were at a kindergarten show and tell with knees up in our chest. The staff was knowledgeable and super friendly and helpful, glad we came back.
Third time coming here. We first visited while in the Hill Country, we have been back each time we had made the trip, despite the drive from where we stay. I'm back this time to mention the nachos. I heard the beertender (John or Mike, it's been over a week and although I make an effort to remember, I just know it's was one of my mom's former husbands name ) mention the tacos at the taco truck at the nearby brewery to a couple leaving who I assume were asking where to eat around the area, and we had not eaten so once we ordered our beers (he let us have a little taste first), I asked him about their food or if he recommended waiting until we left. He told me I'd be surprised at how good their nachos were. He and I had a quick discussion about how a pile of chips are important to be nachos and 1/2 taco shells are NOT, I felt like he knew what he was talking about. Nachos are my very favorite food group so, even though looking at the menu and another plate of nachos coming out and not being wowed by the look of it, I ordered them. Let me tell you about these nachos that look like they were the Dairy Queen nachos with some pretty veggies added....DELICIOUS! I haven't stopped thinking about them. The chips are perfectly thick and crunchy, they remind me of the Totopos they sell at HEB (central market brand), melted queso, red onions, fresh jalapeños, a green creamy sauce, red bell peppers (which stole the praise), and chicken. Each bite had us trying to figure out what the flavor was that was giving it the extra umph...I thought the jalapeños were freshly pickled but we finally landed on the fact that it was the RED BELL PEPPERS. I am assumed they are brined or something but they had a delicious tangibles that really leveled up this already adequate snack. I would never say that I'm a nacho snob, if they are fried tortilla chips in a pile and have cheese on them, I am happy. I am not a tough crowd because to me, a pretty good meal is melted cheese on chips on a paper plate from the microwave, but trust me when I say I know a good plate of nachos and these are good! I don't want to overlook the fact that each service person we have encountered there have always been kind and personable. I like ordering from someone that treats me like an old friend or a regular although I know I've never encountered them. The beer is good, the service is great, the half pours are such a great idea, the people (and dog) watching and ambiance are awesome but now the nachos are my favorite part. This place has all of the elements to complete the formula for a perfect brewery experience, we go to a lot of breweries and this one has it figured out!
Stopped in for a mid-day flight while in town visiting my parents. The indoor space is small but why sit inside when you can enjoy the beautiful outdoor seating? The space outside is large with numerous picnic tables to drink and eat with friends, there's stage for live music and a play space for kids. The beer menu isn't huge but there's a good variety and something for anyone who enjoys beer. My flight was a mix of varieties, including a sour and all were well done. I wish I made it back in the evening. This would be a fantastic happy hour or night out with friends.
Found this brewery on Google apps. Came here on a beautiful day and it was perfect little getaway! This brewery had live music, and beautiful seating outdoors. We got two beers and a warm pretzel. I wish they had more beer options but definitely a cool place to bring your dogs, kids, and just to get away from the city crowd!
Been wanting to come out here for awhile. Very nice drive going up Ranch Road 12. About 3 quarters off RR12. The property is good size, plenty of parking and plenty of room outside. The indoor are is pretty small. They do have food, but we didn't get any. The beer menu was limited, around 10 beers on tap. It was a bit disappointing for me at first to see such a limited selection. Then I spoke to the bartender and he sold me on the Sodid Saison. It's a dark saison, I'm not used to saison. I ended up drinking three of them. I also got the lighter Saison, which was good, but lack flavor compared to the darker Saison. They are very passionate about there beer. They have wine and non alcoholic drinks as well. Very kid friendly plus pet friendly. A play scape for the kids. The ambiance is very casual, I love being out there, especially when the weather is cool like it was on Saturday. They have an outdoor stage, plus events during the month. Definitely going back here again. Bathrooms are clean. This whole place is clean.
I think this little gem is worth the drive... the lovely, scenic, country drive. Their outdoor area is beautiful and cozy, with plenty of seating options, and they have a veggie garden (if like me, you like admiring gardens) They have fun events regularly. They have fun interesting beers, like a cave ale, and all their beers have creatively designed labels. But the best thing about this brewery is their sour, Berried, which is also a cave ale. Awesome Texas brewery! What a treat to visit this Texas brewery with amazing beer and fabulous service. The space where the brewery is located is beautiful and makes you feel at home (but better! )! The Pilsner was especially delicious and the hill country lager (I think?) made for easy daytime drinking. Waitstaff was super friendly and knowledgeable. Roughhouse Brewing is the cutest husband & wife brewing company in Texas! If you're in the San Marcos area, this is a great place to spend the day drinking some delicious farm-style beer, wine and ciders in an absolutely gorgeous wooden barn. The building alone is worth the drive, but the Treeform IPA is what kept me smiling ear to ear! One of the best IPAs I've ever had. Our Saturday trip included some really nice tunes by a local acoustic guitar player on the stage in the backyard. We had a very large group in town for a funeral, and there was plenty of seating outside for us all and the staff was incredibly accommodating, offering everyone samples since we were all first timers. We don't make it out to San Marcos often, but this will definitely be a place we visit every chance we can. Great job! We wish you nothing but the best!! read more

We booked Roughhouse Brewing for our Rehearsal dinner on 3/15/24. If I could give 10 stars I would! Our experience was just amazing! Naz was our point of contact and from the beginning she was so nice and accommodating. We booked the upstairs loft for our 45 guests, and it fit us all perfectly. It overlooked the actual brewing room which was so cool! We had their inhouse catering of pulled pork and brisket sliders. They served it with mac and cheese and coleslaw and it was amazing! We had a lot of out of towners in from Virginia, so we really wanted to give them some good Texas BBQ, and we definitely did! Everyone LOVED the food! It was the perfect, relaxed, atmosphere that we wanted! The beer is amazing, and because they serve wine and other drinks, everyone had something to choose from! After our event was over, we went outside and enjoyed the scenery and firepits. It was such a beautiful place! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this brewery to anyone! read more

We were thrilled to find a local craft brewery that was open - so much of this area is still closed or offering limited service. The beer is good, the employees are friendly, and the venue offers socially distanced picnic tables under some nice shade trees. There was live entertainment when we visited. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. read more

My wife and I got a chance to visit this new brewery before its grand opening and we instantly fell in love. From the beautiful barn to the beer and the food, Roughhouse has it all and we're so excited for them to join the community here in central Texas! First, the beer - it's unique and exceptional. The four current offerings are sublime and so different than what other local craftsmen are offering. Their table beer, *RARE MERIT*, is so smooth and approachable even your great grandparents will be reaching for it! I could drink this beer all day long! *TREEFORM*, their farmhouse IPA, is a refreshing, delicious beer that's crisp, dry, and a nice change from the hazy/juicy IPAs that are dominating the market today (I love Juicy IPA too, but this one is a nice change of pace). *ONA* is a powerful Farmhouse Amber "with a malty, caramel body, the beer is completely dry with hints of cherry." And finally, * SORDID NATURE* is a dark Saison "brewed with all English malts to provide a rich body with subtle roast aroma and a warming finish." It's so damn good you'll have trouble ordering just one! Now, the food! "S. Baker Kitchen provides a tasty selection of smoked meats and shareable snacks... mixing traditional methods with modern techniques [creating] food that is unique to Roughhouse, while familiar to customers and easy to share." We gobbled up the beer infused Queso (v) and to be honest I could have drank a whole cup of it! We also crushed the creamy, Israeli-style hummus (served warm with carrots & pita), and licked the bowl clean. We ended in the Pulled Pork Sandwich (Slow-smoked pork on a bun with beer mustard, tangy BBQ sauce, dill pickles & slaw) and the Veggie Chorizo Sandwich (v) (Smoked cauliflower with chorizo spices on a bun with slaw, beer mustard, tangy BBQ sauce & dill pickles). The food out of this brewery kitchen is a perfect complement to an afternoon of beer-sipping, you won't have a reason to leave! It's fresh, tasty, hand crafted with exceptional care and attention to detail, it's refreshing and gave us the feeling we were eating at the chef's table in his own home. Paired with glass (or three) of Roughhouse beer, you're having a really good day! Finally, the brewery - It's bright and beautiful! Unlike any other brewery I've visited in Texas, Roughhouse is located in a newly constructed barn on five+ acres of Texas Hill Country land. There is so much attention to detail in the tasting room, the outdoor spaces, and the production area too. This place is a class act and we're really excited to see where time takes them! I don't often throw out a five star review and don't actually write too many reviews in general these days. But, our visit to Roughhouse and S.Baker Kitchen was such a positive one I felt compelled to share our experience and encourage others to give this newcomer a chance. Absolutely everything you want in a brewery.... even if you're with people who don't want beer! Great food, great beer, wine, and ciders. This place is gorgeous with great spaces- cozy upstairs, picnic tables outside, live music, and kid friendly spaces. Everything we tasted including a lot of the menu was delicious. This place makes San Marcos and a Wimberly look goooooood. Pay em a visit. You'll love the vibe. You won't regret it. read more

What a gem! Building is gorgeous! Staff is friendly and helpful. My beer was delicious (I drink lone star, so wanted a crisp, light beer)... I had the Rare Merit. The food was amazing! We had the pulled pork bbq plate with mac and cheese. The sauces and pickled condiments (onions, cucumber, and jalapenos) were on point. Pork was juicy and full of flavor. Mac and cheese was heaven. The star was the homemade bread. I could have eaten an entire loaf. Fantastic first experiment!!! Mid-day live music was a real treat too. read more

My new favorite brewery! Great beer, great food and great place to enjoy the hill country! The farmhouse Ales were tasty and easy to drink. The food menu is legit too - I got the pulled pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese that was very filling and delicious. We also ordered the pretzels, cookies and chips and queso - yummm! We brought our 9 month old too and she had a good time crawling around in the finished barn loft that overlooks the brewery. Probably the nicest brewery I've visited in Texas. Worth the drive to spend the afternoon/evening with family/friends. Great and diverse beers.
