When we arrived for our food & drink pairing tasting, there was a table set on the terrace just for us with personalized menus (including our last name). Although a small gesture, This was a very nice touch, and foreshadowed the personal and intimate experience we ended up having. Our host, Kenn, was very knowledgeable but approachable. He did an EXCELLENT job at describing why the foods we were tasting hit so perfectly against their respectively paired wines. I did a few food/wine pairings while in Napa, but this one remained the most memorable for the truly outstanding combinations that made me more of a believer in the art. I cannot say about good things about this winery. It was our first time visiting Round Pond Estate and definitely won't be our last. From the estate, to the service, to the wine, everything was so enjoyable. We did the artisan tat sting with 6 people. We ended up all buying bottles to go. We even brought up the fact that we would like to try the olive oil, low and behold out comes our host with the olive oils! I'm gluten free so they made sure to bring me gluten free crackers that were really tasty! Really sad we don't remember our hosts name, even though he memorized all of ours! read more

I had a lovely experience here! They were able to schedule us for a tasting at the last minute. Once we arrived, they surprised us with a private tasting in their library room. I was initially turned off, because the room was a little chilly -- they stock some of their bottles in there. Just when I was about to ask to be seated in another area, the staff came to our rescue and supplied us with warm, cozy blankets. We shared a bottle of their Estate Cabernet and some food to pair. I highly recommend their Cabernets if you're into reds. At the conclusion of our tasting, they surprised us with a customized gift form the Chef. How sweet! First off, lets talk about the winery. It's one of the most beautiful entrances of any winery in the valley. It's not over the top, but tall, palm lined road that heads straight to the winery is an amazing entrance and a subtle mental note of "I have arrived!". Due to COVID, I really haven't spent any time inside the winery or the wine bar, just kind of walk past it to the huge covered timber framed patio (with heaters for the cold days and umbrellas for the warm ones). A portion of the patio is uncovered and has beautiful views overlooking their vineyards and has a huge gas fireplace for those really chilly winter evenings. Second, the wine. They have a couple whites (sauv blanc) that are incredible. Fresh, bright, crisp and ideal for any summer day. Their reds are big, chewy, tannic, age worthy reds. All cab based...give them time in the glass and enjoy the flavor as it evolves. Most of these reds will age over the next 15 to 20 years. Price you ask? The wines are not inexpensive per se however, in this region, their wines are more economical than many of their neighboring wineries and provide excellent QPR for age worthy Napa cabs. Lastly, the staff. We belong to a fair amount of wineries and have visited many wineries in Walla Walla, Willamette Valley, Napa, Sonoma, Santa Barbara, etc but only join a wine club if the wine is excellent BUT, the experience must also be. I cannot attest to all the staff but my assumption is they are all excellent. There is a very unique culture here that is laid back and the hospitality is second to none. It's not stuffy, but rather fun, relaxed, and interactive. Upon entering the winery, you encounter the BEST HOST I've ever come across, Guy. Guy is a wonderful human, friendly, funny, witty and a helluva character. He passed us off to Juan our tasting consultant for the day and let me tell you, this guy knows his stuff. He's a real study in wine, wine making, and the Round Pond history. He is one of the best tasting room people I've ever encountered and is flat out a fantastic dude. The entire hospitality we encountered at Round Pond made us feel not only welcomed, but like family. Wine is all about using your senses; sight, smell, and taste. Round Pond also completes the experience with senses as well with their winery, their wine and their staff. Sitting on their patio looking out at their vineyard, drinking their superb wine, and being taken care of by their staff will not only make an incredible experience for you, but also lasting memories of your visit here for years to come. read more

We did not try the Round Pond wine but we had a marvelous experience with their Estate Olive Mill, which gave an impressive olive oil tour and tasting. It is a nice alternative to standardized winery tours and tastings. I recommend taking the lunch time tour as it included a generous organic vegan tasting meal that can substitute for lunch. The tour covered how olives grow, how they're harvested and how Round Pond's Italian custom made machines process the olives and return with precious golden juice. And then we had tastings of fresh olive oil (so fresh and intense that yields peppery flavors to the nose and cough chokes), red wine vinegar and fruit juice infused syrups that pair perfectly well with cheese. The pairing vegetables were all organically grown from their garden. For additional $10, they also offer tasting of Round Pond's award winning cab wine. So for wine lovers, this would be the one stone that kills two birds. read more

We heard that The garden was pretty but we did stop by because it was quite hot the day we were there. Delicious wines. Napa requires a bit of advance planning these days. Most of the better wineries require reservations due to popularity and local laws. Round Pond Estate requires an appointment, but those willing to book in advance will get a great experience in the middle of the Rutherford area of Napa Valley. The winery is off Rutherford road between Highway 29 and Silverado Trail. Round Pond has a good menu of estate wines. They offer several experiences for tasting their wines. I chose the Estate Tasting which included three wines with food pairings. Matching the wine with small bites of gourmet food is amazing and a great option for something different. The winery is very beautiful with a large indoor room over the Barrel Aging Room with a nice patio overlooking the vineyards. The wine has a distinct Rutherford dust taste with varietals appealing to the soft and tannic palettes. Staff were equally great explaining the history and style of the wine. Round Pond is an elegant addition to your Napa experience. It is rather expensive, but much cheaper than the ones needing a credit check! Plan ahead and you will enjoy some of the best Rutherford wine available. read more

So thrilled I got into their farm to table Al Fresco lunch. What a treat to stroll around the garden and learn about what they're growing. The olive grove was fascinating also. The guide did go on a bit too much about all sorts of technical things about the wines, but he was a sommelier so it's not surprising and I guess that's what some people are there for. I would have liked to learn more about the actual plants in the garden. He did cover it a little though. The olive oil, red wine vinegar and wine tasting on their glorious deck was fun. We came here without reservation through a recommendation. This place is spacious with high ceilings and big windows. I shared a wine tasting with my Dad. Tim started us off with some really good sauvignon blanc, which was my favorite. All the wines that we tasted were delicious. Tim also told us about their olive oils, red wine and balsamic vinegars. They have a ten year old balsamic with no added sugar, which is pretty much how they do it Italy. Tim was very nice and gave us a free cork opener that got confiscated on the flight home. I had forgotten to take it out of my carry on backpack. It was a really nice cork opener though. This place was beautiful. They also had a chefs garden that Tim told us about. The chefs garden even had chickens. It was really cool. I love this place. It's a new stop on our usual wineries. read more

Stunning & relaxing property offering elegant estate wines. It is honestly hard for me to figure out where to start, because simply loved this place. As you make your way to the tasting area, all you can notice is the beautiful architecture which was also designed to maximize the day lighting coming in for workers in their barrel room. Then we were welcomed onto their gorgeous patio overlooking their family owned winery. The view is to die for. The tasting itself was relaxed with just the right mix of education & time to enjoy. Not rushed, personalized, warm & welcoming - you can tell that Round Pond truly cares about your experience in every way. The wines were spot-on amazing with elegant finishes at every price point. My favorite was their Reserve Collection Sauvignon Blanc which was done in oak giving you the illusion that you might actually be drinking a Chardonnay (just not as heavy). Their reds were just as delightful & I am seriously considering joining their wine club to keep the fun going. Bonus, they make incredible olive oil as well. Round Pond is now one of my favorites in Napa & definitely stop here on your next trip out. read more

First of all, I know it must be difficult to run a business these days- especially one this big and multifaceted. First, several positives: wines were terrific. Tasted five: two SBs and three CS/CSblends. All were excellent. Greeter at the door was ebullient and welcoming. Grounds were beautiful. However: The person assigned to our group was completely uninterested (TSTL) and so "on script" that we couldn't engage her in ANY conversation whatsoever. I mean, NOTHING. So completely devoid of personality, she was the exact opposite of the hospitality that we experienced at six other wineries we visited. As a group of eight who shelled out over 1000 dollars for five pours and a charcuterie plate, we expected a smidgen of personality. Alas, none was provided. I'll keep buying the wines, but will not visit there again. read more

I was easily able to make a reservation for the Olive Mill Tour and Tasting using their online reservation system. Credit card information is required in order to hold your reservation. They sent me a confirmation e-mail so that I could verify my information and informed me that a 24 hour advance notice for cancellations is required in order to avoid being charged in full. On the day of our tour, we accidentally went to the winery, which is located across the street from the olive mill, so make sure you pay attention to the signs! If you see rows of palm trees at the entrance, you're at the winery! Parking was a little tricky at the olive mill since there are limited paved parking spots. You can also park in front of the mill on the unpaved side of road. When it was time for our tour, we were met by Josh, along with two other ladies who were taking the tour with us. We started in the food tasting room, where Josh talked about Round Pond and how we would be trying olive oils...by itself with no bread so that we could really taste the flavor and freshness. We tried four different ones--Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Italian Varietal Olive Oil, Meyer Lemon Olive Oil, and Blood Orange Olive Oil. For the olive oil food tasting, we had Butternut Squash Bruschetta made with Round Pond Estate Italian Varietal Extra Virgin Olive Oil, on toasted baguette with ricotta cheese spread; Smoked Salmon Lollipop made with Meyer Lemon Olive Oil, cream cheese, fresh goat cheese, chives, and black sea salt; and Black Orange Rock Shrimp Ceviche made with Sangiovese Blend Red Wine Vinegar, Blood Orange Citrus Syrup, and Blood Orange Olive Oil; lemon, red onion, and avocado on a round tortilla chip. For the vinegar tasting, we had sugar cubes to dip into the vinegar and suck the vinegar out of the cube. We tried the Cab-Merlot Red Wine Vinegar and the Sangiovese Red Wine Vinegar. For the tasting, we had Baby Lettuces with Red Wine Vinaigrette, made with Sangiovese Blend Red Wine Vinegar and Italian Varietal Extra Virgin Olive Oil, baby lettuces wrapped in thinly sliced prosciutto. There was also Brined Turkey and Cranberry Orange Compote made with Cabernet-Merlot Red Wine Vinegar and Infused Rosemary Olive Oil. For dessert, we had Greek Yogurt Cheesecake made with Pomegranate Syrup, Chocolate Cabernet Truffle made with Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon and coated with bittersweet chocolate, and a Lemon Thyme Shortbread Cookie made with Meyer Lemon Citrus Syrup and topped with lemon zest. Everything was yummy! After that, Josh took us out to the olive oil trees and grape vines. He showed us the mill and took us through the process of olive harvesting...pretty cool! Not a bad thing to say. The views are spectacular from the entry way to the veranda to their gardens. Our guide Josh was nothing short of amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. He remembers names of all of his guests as well as listens to what they like to bring them an extra taste of something they'll probably like. The views from the veranda are amazing. Highly recommend doing a tasting of the olive oils and vinegars too if you're into food as well as wine. My wife and I both have spent years in the food business and we still learned a lot about oil and vinegar from Josh, who was very well versed. We also got to take a stroll through their gardens which had some amazing food and flowers growing in them. We had an awesome time and would go back in a heartbeat. read more

We did the estate tasting for 2 on the patio. We had a very nice view but for $65 a person all you get is a taste of 1 white wine and 2 reds , no more than 3 once's. Won't be back, btw u can do the same tasting at the bar which is called the zinc tasting for $45. My advice is go down the street to Frogs Leap where tasting are $25-35 and they are about 5-6 tastings in a lovely kid friendly environment Skip this place unless u got money to burn! read more

Bet you didn't know that precious land in Napa Valley goes for about $500k per ACRE! Crazy, isn't it? If you're planning a trip to the wineries of Napa Valley, Round Pond is a must. But, heed my warning: be sure to make it the last stop of your day or nothing else will compare. The property is sprawling-- it's dotted with palm trees, with acres of lush greenery and the hills serve as a beautiful backdrop. After your wine educator sets you up at the table inside, you're encouraged to take your glass and go relax in comfy seating on the deck outside. Besides the gorgeous view, there's a huge fireplace to keep you warm if the Cabernet hasn't yet started doing its job. The tasting here is $25 per person but well worth it. Besides a more generous pour, Round Pond pairs an amuse bouche with each wine. And, a chocolate truffle! Another aspect of our experience that I really enjoyed: once your wine is poured, the educator gives your group some space. Wine is associated with relaxation and unwinding... if someone is hovering the entire time, it's difficult to achieve that state of zen. Kristopher made sure we got there. The small touches really go a long way and Round Pond nails it. This winery is recognized for their Cabernet Sauvignon in particular and you'll know why once you've completed the tasting. And, they actually hand-blend and hand-bottle their wines here. Beyond grapes, they grow fruit and olives on the estate. We came here with reservations for the Estate Tasting ($45). As we walked into the building, we noticed the wooden Christmas tree stacked with bottles of their citrus syrups. Nice Christmas decor. As we walked upstairs, we were escorted outside to their patio area to do our tasting. Loved the outdoor space with the vast views. They even had heating lamps on the ceilings along with a huge fireplace. It'd be a great place to have a little party. We were greeted by a friendly staff who came to pour the wines and answer questions we had. He told us about the Round Pond history, which was interesting to hear. The tasting consisted of 3 wines with bite-size appetizers. We tried: - 2012 Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc - 2010 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon - 2011 Proprietary Red Wine He also poured us the Reserve Cabernet with some chocolate. Off the ones I tried, I surprisingly enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc the most. I love cabernets, but theirs weren't very impressive. I didn't care for the strong tannins. I didn't think the $45 was worth it for this food and wine tasting. I think $30 would have been more reasonable. Service was really slow in getting our wines and food that I was so anxious to leave. In the end, we didn't walk out with any bottles, but it was nice that they hooked us up with a bottle opener. read more

The view from their terrace is amazing, but unfortunately all the tables were taken so we were forced to sit inside. However, our server was so knowledgeable and friendly that we ended up having a fabulous time regardless. We had the Estate Tasting for $25, which came with 3 wines and 3 appetizer pairings. Everyone in the group must participate, so no shared tastings allowed. Round Pond definitely has a higher end feel (i.e. serving bottled Pellegrino water) which reflects in their pricing. Majority of their wines are in the $50+ range and one tasting fee is waived when 6 bottles are purchased. While our 3 wines were fantastic and our appetizers paired nicely, they were bite-sized and not quite as substantial as I had expected. However, our server was also kind enough to bring out 2 other wines for us to sample towards the end of our appointment since the bottle was already opened. The grounds of this place are stunning. When you drive in, the long road is lined with palm trees, which is kind of out of place in Rutherford, but my So-Cal roots appreciated it. The tasting area is upstairs, with a gigantic patio and fireplace overlooking the area. Our table had a couch, which was nice after sitting on metal patio chairs in the sun at other wineries earlier in the day. We are members of this winery, so we definitely like the wine here. Rutherford is known for outstanding cabs, but the tasting we had a few weeks ago included a sauvignon blanc, a syrah, and a cab. The tastings come with a food pairing. I think non-members pay around $22 for a tasting, but I could be wrong. I just know it's not the $10 you'd pay at other places. It's definitely worth it for the view and overall ambiance. Plus, the tables are not near each other at all so you won't deal with crowds. Reservations required in advance. I only deducted a star because we brought some friends with us on our last trip to taste with us and our pourer was sub-par. I feel like they should try to make an effort to have younger employees serve the younger clientele. We couldn't relate to our person at all. Plus, he poured all three wines at once and kept mentioning how great it was to sip them with food. However, the food didn't come out for another 15 minutes. My friend asked to sample their '08 cab because she wanted to buy a bottle. It wasn't on the tasting list. He told her no, but a few weeks ago they let another person we took try it. Our tour guide mentioned that only serious foodies would be interested in olive oil tastings in Napa, which is very true! We've already tried wine tastings on previous visits to Napa and so we wanted to try something a little different this time around. I found Round Pond and we made reservations for 2-- it's reservations only, $25/ person. Each tour accomodates 10. I really enjoyed the whole experience of learning about the olive oil, including seeing it on the tree (its one of the only fruits you can't eat off the tree because of its bitterness), and then the process of converting it into the olive oil we see. We had a great tour guide who shared a lot with us. She said that 97% of all olive oil in the U.S. is from California, and that all olives are innately green! The good part started after the tour. We went into the kitchen for the food tastings. They have four olive oils-- a Italian that is very peppery and spicy, a Spanish that is more mild and creamy, an infused blood orange, and an infused Meyer lemon. Our guide taught us how to "test" olive oil-- you heat it by cupping it with the palm of your hand, then stir the cup, take a few sniffs to inhale its smell, and the use the back of your throat to take in the oil. Apparently it's a compliment if you cough after because it means that the oil is good! They also make vinegars-- a berry one and red wine-- and syrups. We got to try everything with bread, cheese, and a platter of veggies (cauliflowers, broccoli, peppers, etc.). My favorite combination was lettuce and Meyer lemon olive oil with a little bit of sea salt. So simple but so good. :) You can purchase some to take home, which we did. My favorite was the Spanish olive oil and Meyer lemon. They also ship their products if that's easier. We had a great experience and it's a fair recommendation! read more

My husband and I had some time away from two out of the three of our children but had to take our nursing baby with us 6M. I made reservations a week in advance and scoured their website and booking for rules about babies and even called but never got a return phone call. Unfortunately when we showed up, they asked if we knew about the no kids policy (obviously we didnt) It was definitely a bummer to plan out our vacation and just to be turned down. Even after we drove away I searched again on their website and nothing, you can get all the way to the booking process and nothing about kids/babies! Very disappointing.
