I wasn't planning on finding a new favorite place that day. My son and I had one mission: swing by GameStop, grab a couple of games, and head home before I somehow got talked into buying another controller we definitely didn't need. We took a different exit through Vancouver Mall, and that's when I spotted a sign that read, "Ice Cream - $1 a scoop." Well... now we're negotiating. One scoop turned into wandering into Round1, and I swear I felt like I accidentally walked into an arcade the size of a small airport. If you're into claw machines, congratulations you've found your homeland. I think they had enough of them to keep a thousand stuffed animals unemployed. Everywhere I looked there were lights flashing, people laughing, prizes dangling just out of reach, and enough games to make my son forget I existed for a while. Then I saw it. The bowling alley. I lit up like a kid who just found out recess got extended. I love bowling, and usually a bowling night means my wallet leaves with a limp. By the time you pay for bowling, shoes, food, drinks, and whatever else mysteriously ends up on the bill, you're wondering if you accidentally financed the lanes. Round1 was different. It's affordable, it's convenient, and it's sitting right inside the mall. That's a dangerous combination... mostly for my free time. The whole place was spotless. The staff was friendly, everything looked modern, and the lighting and giant screens gave it that fun, energetic vibe without feeling over the top. It's not the biggest bowling alley you'll ever see, but honestly, who cares? It's close, it's clean, there's great food just steps away, and after you're done bowling you can lose to your kid in a racing game before watching him dominate a claw machine you swear is rigged. I lived in Vancouver for a while years ago, and now that I'm back, I'm constantly surprised by all the new places popping up. This was one of those surprises that made me smile. I'm not even a huge arcade guy by myself, but with my son? It turned an ordinary shopping trip into one of those afternoons you remember long after the games are over. Some people rate places by comparing them to the biggest and fanciest entertainment centers. I rate them by one simple question: Did I leave happier than when I walked in? The answer here is an easy yes. Round1 isn't just an arcade. It's one of those places where a quick stop somehow turns into, "Wait... we've been here three hours?" Five stars from me. This was our first experience with a Round1 and there's definitely some great things, along with some not-so-great things. Let's start off with the claw machines, we had a blast (for the most part). The large and medium claws we found we could win before it was time for payout. The mini claws, were just as expensive as the other claw machines, and way harder to win from. As for the arcade section, it was very lackluster. The games were pricey, some didn't work, while others were missing balls or beanbags. It was hard to accumulate enough tickets to get anything substantial from the prize area. The staff we encountered had mixed attitudes. Some were very nice and helpful with resetting the claw machines, while others seemed putout, that they hated working there, and were quite surly. Overall we enjoyed ourselves in the claw area, and would come back just to experience that. read more

Update: my wife was reached out to last week and given the tickets we won. This was not because of this review or any social media post. This was because she directly put a complaint on the web site sending the proof. So if you have issues, go there. I have updated my star rating to three. As I'm glad we were given the tickets, it took a long time and should have happened quicker, and with less effort once proof was supplied. Original review with my experience: I never understood why this place had such low ratings until today. I've been here many times (we basically go monthly) since they opened and spent easily thousands of dollars. Today my son was playing a game (Boardwalk Big Spin) and the arrow very clearly landed on the 1000 prize, (as you can see in my attached pictures) but we were only awarded 8 tickets. We immediately found a member of the Mechanic Team who validated that the machine wasn't calibrated correctly. We watched him spin and it was way off again what he should have won. We took a picture of the arrow before the team member did his test as evidence just to make sure. We were instructed to speak with a manager up front. When the details of the situation were explained to the manager, Tanaya (not sure if that's spelled correctly), was very cold in demeanor and simply stated they couldn't give us the tickets my son rightfully won. Not an ounce of customer service or even any type of accountability. She even spoke with the mechanic team member and we also told her we have a picture of the situation and she was unwilling to hear us out. Her attitude toward the situation and lack of sufficient explanation was truly unprofessional. If this was the difference between 8 tickets versus, say 75 I wouldn't even be putting this in a review and probablywouldn'thave even reported it. If you look at my reviews you can clearly see I rarely write bad reviews unless truly warranted. As previously mentioned We frequent this establishment quite often and spend hundreds of dollars here each month. I'm hoping this helps inform upper management at this location on better practices to handle customer issues with this person who is in a manager role. I've worked in several different arcades throughout my youth and was even in management myself. I understand people trying to make claims or get away with certain things. This clearly was not the case here. Any type of empathy or kindness would have cooled the situation if she truly could not award the tickets. But nothing remotely close to tgat happened. When they first opened it used to be fun and yes you didn't always win something but now they have rigged the machines where it is impossible to win. I tried one of their claw machines over 20 times and found that it was not working correctly and when I asked to speak to a manager he came over and found that it wasnt working and all he offered was one free play. I asked only one free play for the 165 dollars I have spent to play here and his answer was yes. When I stated that was wrong and wouldnt be coming back, with an attitude he said ok. I come for the crane machines specifically, I've been playing them for 15 years, even in Japan, and I made a living off of them for 10 years. The way they stock these machines compared to the other Round 1s I've been to is beyond rigged. It's so bad that 90% of the time, they stock it so it's completely unwinnable to begin with. Very often, as my pictures show, they won't even stock them correctly. While I typically get a couple things, it's frustrating to want something and it being stuck. I've had to ask someone to fix it a few times I have fun, but giving myself a budget and not even being able to play for most of the things I like is pretty disappointing. read more

I recently visited Round 1 with my family, and unfortunately, our experience with management significantly impacted what should have been an enjoyable outing. We checked in and purchased three rounds of games for five people. We had already completed one full round and were actively playing our second and third rounds. During our visit, we also ordered food and spent a fair amount of time at the lane. After finishing our meal, we cleaned up and disposed of our trash, including the receipt, since we were already well into the games we had paid for. Halfway through our third round, the lane unexpectedly shut off with a message thanking us for playing. Assuming it was a system error, I went to the front desk and spoke with the same employee who had checked us in, who stated he was the manager on duty. I explained that we had paid for three rounds and were cut off early. His first response was to ask for the receipt. I explained that it had been thrown away after eating. Instead of checking the system, reviewing transaction history, or attempting to verify the purchase another way, he stated there was "nothing he could do." Communication felt dismissive, and at one point he walked away while the issue was still unresolved. When my brother later asked to speak with a manager, we were again told that he was the manager on duty, followed by a comment implying that he did not feel inclined to help because he did not like how we approached the situation. This was surprising, as we were calm and simply asking for assistance with a billing issue. This was especially frustrating because: * We were visibly playing for well over an hour * We were already partway through the third paid round * The employee personally checked us in and could have verified the purchase internally * We were respectful and only seeking help Although we were eventually offered the option to finish the round, it came across as conditional and dismissive rather than customer-focused. I understand that policies exist, but effective management requires professionalism, flexibility, and problem-solving. This situation could have been resolved quickly and respectfully. Instead, it left our group feeling frustrated and unheard. In my own opinion I think around One is the best arcade better than Dave Busters. The prices at Round One are of great quality. The food is great. The service is good. The place is clean. They mostly get modern arcade games and regularly. The prices have gone up a little thanks to the tariffs. The stuff keeps the crane games well stocked most of the time and currently when you have 80,000 credits you can get a PlayStation five. My husband and I went in with the intention of getting ice cream and a drink at the bar but looked at arcade machines before ordering our treats- The place is very clean, and well organized, it seems overpriced when it comes to the arcade section but due to it being in a mall Im sure a lot of factors are involved with there and the prizes are cool. (ps5, controllers, candy, keychains etc.) we ordered our ice cream at the self pay kiosk and someone quickly came to make two cones for 3.98. We ordered our drinks shortly afterwards and we were greeted by the same lady who made our icecream. She was quick and respectful when she provided us service. While my husband and I were sitting, enjoying our drinks a man who seemed to have been the manager-strongly approached us by saying in a demanding tone, "Can I help you two?" And we had two full drinks in-front of us so I said, "No, someone else helped us already thanks." Then he pointed at both of us and said "Then please move, theres others behind you, thanks" we moved without saying anything but we quickly finished our drink and walked out. The chairs we previously sat on, shouldn't be placed there if thats designated for ordering, as well as the menus and anti-slip drink pad. The lack of mannerism from him was a bummer to experience. Round1 is a great idea with TERRIBLE execution. Round1 is: * Primarily a Japanese arcade, complete with lots of Japanese games straight from Japan, and Japanese crane games with Japanese prizes, but there are many non-Japanese games as well * Bowling center * Billiards hall * A Karaoke establishment (private booths) * An eatery All of the elements are there, but there are SO MANY pervasive problems with this place that each visit is a mixed bag of fun and frustration. I've only been to the arcade portion, but I have little reason to believe that any of the rest of it is any better. The biggest issue is that a LOT of games are out-of-order. I'm not just talking about a few, but on each visit, there are easily two dozen games or more that are out-of-order. Over the course of three months of visits, many of the same games have been out-of-order. One of the options for certain games tagged as "unlimited play" is to pay for a set period of "unlimited play", during which you can play said games as many times as you want. On our last visit, when we tried to purchase this, we were told they weren't doing that now "because most of the games that use it are broken". Staff is hard to find on the floor when your game invariably charges your card, but doesn't start, or doesn't credit your tickets to your card, or when balls are missing from the Skee Ball machines, etc. If you do eventually find an employee, they're invariably unpleasant to deal with, and treat you like you're a huge imposition on them. Along those lines, when purchasing a game card or adding value to said game card, the employees have sometimes been friendly and helpful, sometimes not. There are automated machines that dispense and refill cards, but much like the dozens of perpetually out-of-order games, these have NEVER been in an operational state, and I think they have them there just to make the space look less empty. Were it not for the fun games that Americans can only find here (like the charming "marble pusher" games), we'd not bother coming back. read more

We had 1 hour for 5 players. We had a stuck ball and had to wait for 10 minutes because they were short staffed. That wait counted against our time. We ran out of time in the 8th frame. The manager did accommodate us with 10 more minutes, but the data from our game was lost, only saved by a photo just before time ran out. We tried to finish the last 2-1/2 frames in those 10 minutes, but the Moonlight Strike nonsense activated and ate 2 of our minutes, cutting us off in the last bowler and putting a big error screen up so that we couldn't even take a picture of the score. Simply put, the automated game timer and silly Moonlight Strike interjection caused an otherwise pleasant family outing to quickly become frustrating and disappointing. read more

WARNING!! This place has a business practice of stealing your money, blaming you for it, and then claiming there is no way to provide a refund (in 2024?!?). My family came by as part of a road trip from the Bay Area. My kids saw an arcade and so we stopped by to play. I purchased an hour arcade card for each of my four kids, including my 3-year-old. Once we walked away from the counter, we realized that the cards didn't work at any of them games my three daughters wanted to play. So we went back thinking that the cards weren't properly activated. It was at this point that it was explained to us that the cards we purchased were only for the arcade games, which is only about 1/3 of the games. So I said, okay, we'll exchange these cards and pay more for the pay per game cards so that my daughters could play the games they wanted. We had no problem paying more and probably would've spent a lot of money here, but then I was told that they are unable to do that and we could purchase new cards in addition to the ones we already paid for. What?? We were told that we should've read the fine print. The manager said, "It clearly states that this card is good for green card readers." Yes, but there is nothing explaining that there are card readers that aren't green. As a new customer here with four eager kids ready to play games, why am I expected to know that card readers come in different colors? Then I was directed to red the fine print that says the card doesn't work on rainbow card readers. I'm not buying a car or taking a new medication. To put pertinent information in the fine print is manipulative. Additionally, there were 5 different signs hanging up at the counter. Surely I cannot be expected to read all of them, including the fine print. The person selling us the cards should've explained how it worked, especially when he saw I had three young girls--my 3-year-old barely found any games she could play--but instead we were expected to read the fine print on multiple signs. This is not a customer friendly establishment. In 2024, not being able to exchange our unlimited play cards for the ones that we can actually use is a choice. Technology is too advanced to have no way to allow us a refund for the arcade cards so that we could purchase cards we actually wanted to use. So if this establishment refuses to find a way to offer a refund for their mistakes, then that is part of their business plan. I would never come back anyway because I live 600 miles away, but no one should support a business that operates this way. I'm happy to spend my money on an arcade for my kids to enjoy a lovely summer afternoon, but instead they kept my money and my daughters all left feeling disappointed and sad. Although this is a large venue with a lot of different kinds of games to play, and bowling and I guess karaoke for those who are so inclined, the prices you actually pay to play a one of the arcade games in credits is quite expensive, and the staff service is poor. By way of example, today I had a game break on me immediately after swiping my card. and the response by front desk staff was either to wait for an indeterminate amount of time for the manager to come up to credit the card, or that I should track down the mechanic on the floor and I see if they could fix the machine and give me a free swipe. The crane games have adorable prizes but not easy to win. Just like gambling, need to manage expectations on how much you will need to spend to win a prize. We've been coming to this location since it's opened and my kids have been saving their tickets in hopes for a big prize. We went in today and checked our card balance that we've been using for a long time and it said $0 and 0 credits. Apparently they switched to a new Intercard system and new app so I can't even check my previous history. I asked to speak to a manager and Linda came only to tell us that her hands are tied and she can't do anything. Round1 was fun ... ... except when my wife lost (or someone took) her iPhone while playing one of the pop-a-shot basketball games. We knew it immediately and began to look everywhere. We talked to the service desk 2-3 times without luck while using Apple apps to "find" and "lock" the device. The place was busy on a Saturday night so it really was kind of crazy. After a frustrating hour, we left ... and then got a call from Round1 saying they had the phone. We hurried back, got the phone, and let out a big ole "whew" as our stress level evaporated. We asked where/how it was found. They didn't know. We were curious, but not enough to force the issue or stick around. For the first 45 minutes, we had a fun time competing (air hockey, racing, & baskets) while also trying some of the big (Supersize Pac Man!) arcade games. We still have our card (purchase required) with points to use ... so I have no doubts we'll be back to play pool, try bowling, or hit the arcade. I do doubt we'll spend much on the food because it looked terrible although lots of teens and families were eating it. For us, this will probably be a post dinner or mid-afternoon spot. I don't really understand all the negative reviews. It seems like everyone else who wrote about this place went during the pandemic and of course would have expected a poor experience with large groups and it being too crowded. However I just went there today after being fully vaccinated and let me just say, this was one of the best arcade experiences I've ever had. I've been to Wunderland, Dave and Busters, all the barcades in Portland, and this was the most simple and fun. Yeah I spent as much as I would have at D&B's... but you walk away with so many more prizes. Especially ones that are hecka kawaii. Not only did it feel good to finally not wear my mask, but the staff were so nice! I don't know what everyone else is talking about. I only saw guy workers but they were so helpful and accommodating to my boyfriend and I. You kind of HAVE to interact with staff in order to get your prizes. However they were extremely friendly. I would definitely say it was worth it. Spent about $120 and walked away with all this. About 2.5 hours worth of fun without bowling or food (concessions were still closed). I'm just saying, action figurines are usually pretty expensive and it was sick that they had contemporary ones. read more

It's a great place for adults and kids alike. To start playing games you have to purchase a game card. With that game card you can earn points that you can redeem for prizes at the prize station. Round 1 has a cafe with a variety of food options like chicken tenders and nachos. A bar for adults over 21 years of age. A pretty awesome bowling alley. 2 party rooms and a huge game room for all the games. The best thing by far have to be the games brought from Japan! The games from Japan have to be the most fun yet and intricate games I've ever played. Everything is visually stunning. The service has been good and Covid-19 guidelines are well established. Me and my young nephews went here to play a whole bunch of games. They had a very great and awesome selection of choices for games and food. I stayed there for hours. The service was great. So, i decided i would like to go bowling with my friends on a random Thursday night. When walking into the building i thought that i would be ready to bowl and have a great night. But, the corner of my eye i see a security gaurd on the stairs, saying "at 10 we need to start checking ids" well we got there around 9:48 and there was nothing anywhere that said after 10 you have to be 18+ with id. Well my friends are 20 and im only 17 and so i asked "does it matter if they're 20 and they "watch me" and the guy said no that you have to be at least 25 years of age. Well that grinded my gears because we drove an hour away as a poor teenager with barley any money for gas. That was just a waste and we had to be sent home very shortly. Spent $25 for my 4 year old nephew to play. That only lasted about 20 minutes. Each game takes 9-15 credits. The games ALL lasted about 10 seconds to a minute. We spend a little too much money here whenever we come. The plushies are so cute and the crane games are addicting. However, despite coming here as often as we do, it's still a 3 stars overall. What I love about this place are the Japanese crane games. They're addicting, and you actually have a chance to win a prize due to how it's set up. You either use the crane to pick up a SINGLE plushie (there is only 1 you can pick up) or you play a game (hitting a target, knocking a plushie over, etc) and win the plushie as the prize. If you win the game, you need to notify staff and they'll reward you with the prize. It's better if you come with a second person so they can watch the spot for you while you're searching for staff. So why the deductions of stars? These games are expensive. I also get the impression it's understaffed so finding staff can be difficult at times. Could give 0 stars if I could. Got on the premises around 11pm on a Thursday night. Came with a party of 8 (all Asian) and wasn't allowed to get in cause one person didn't have ID. She looks over 18 for sure, has a picture of passport and ID and can prove she's a college student. Security wouldn't let us in and her house was 30 min away. It's 11pm on a school night for high schoolers why would 23+ year olds be hanging out with a someone younger than 18 years old... Just a dumb policy about having only physical ID to be able to get in. Other arcades do not ask for ID. Waste of time and money just to get there. Ps. We watch the security guard check 2 girl's IDs then proceed to tell the 2 guys behind them to "go ahead" and didn't check any of their identification. read more
