Receipt from pick up that didn't happen.

Extremely Disrespectful and Unwelcoming This establishment's treatment toward Black customers and delivery drivers is outright disrespectful and unacceptable. I visited Route 22 BBQ on 11/6/24 at 2:30 pm to pick up an UberEats order, and the experience was shocking. Upon entering, I quietly waited as two white customers were served in a calm, respectful manner. When my turn came, however, the man behind the counter immediately started yelling, repeatedly shouting "accept it now!" before I could even confirm the order. I tried explaining that I needed to take a photo of the food as part of UberEats protocol, but he only got louder. His volume and aggressive tone were so unsettling that even the kitchen staff stopped to see what was happening. I remained calm and attempted to de-escalate, but he refused to hand over the food, saying I didn't have to take it. It was apparent that my presence as a Black person was treated differently from the white customers who faced no such hostility. No one--especially someone doing their job--deserves to be humiliated and yelled at like this. It's clear that this restaurant has no respect for Black customers or delivery drivers, and I would caution anyone against supporting an establishment with such a disregard for basic decency and respect.

Who doesn't love Portuguese BBQ? It's a silly question because everyone should love Portuguese BBQ. My family has platters like this pretty often, I feel like I've grown up on them! My mom came over for dinner but instead of cooking, we went with a few trays from here. We got the chicken with rice and salad and the salmon with rice and beans. And of course a side of fried plantains. The chicken was amazing, juice and soft and so much flavor. My mouth is watering just writing this review. The salmon was also delicious and seasoned so well that it even tasted great cold the next day but it was a little dry. Overcooked fish is hard to bring back to its full glory so that's the only thing. Other than that it's all delicious and you can't go wrong. My tips are to skip the fries for take out because they get cold and soggy quick in my experience. And also to get extra beans! I love the black beans and there are just never enough. Also, don't skip the fried plantains. So good. Enjoy!

Was so excited to see that my favorite Brazilian/Portuguese BBQ spot is now on Uber Eats! I've been going here for 20 years and never without being completely satisfied! The food is delicious, always fresh and the portions are generous. The salad was smaller than in past orders (they used to give a tray, now it's a container) but with prices the way they are, it's still the freshest salad and worth every penny! I guarantee we get at least 5 meals from it for $85.04 I got: Half Chicken Lunch combo (yellow rice/fries) Whole tray Beef Ribs (black beans/yellow rice) A tray of Garlic Broccoli Maduros Salad Extra hot sauce Extra Dressing This included the fees, delivery and a $6 base tip. I tip cash for those that don't leave my food or give attitude.

The food is 5/5. There's so much food, and you def need to order the garlic sauce with it. Very affordable and delicious. It's takeout only.

So I did something crazy and moved during this Pandemic. I'm grateful to my new home, and even more for my new local haunts to grab this or that. I don't know about past reviews of rude service, but the first time I was here, I did have to yell through my mask to get my order understood! It's no reflection of the staff, who btw couldn't have been more polite to this newbie. Yes, it's located in a not so glamorous strip on Rt 22, but DANG. the food here beats BBQ closer to me. A short drive brings much satisfaction. This really is the closest taste to Newark's Ironbound BBQ All walks and kinds line up, call in, use the app and happily wait in their cars, outside, or inside. Have had the Chicken (actually better than Newark, Super Juicy!), the ribs (generous!), the Salmon (Again generous and Yum Yum!)... I will have to try the Pichana some time. Even if you get the mixed veggies, try the Collard greens!!! Garlic and the greens must be healing, No?!

There is a huge parking lot so there is ample parking even since the area is busy. The restaurant when I arrived was very clean. There was only one person in front of me ordering with a young man. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and patient and helpful to pick out the best of the menu. I ordered the 3 meat sampler with ribs, pulled pork and brisket. None of the sides looked too appealing so I left them out and didn't get the combo meal. To my surprise it was a whopping $30 for the 3 meats. Granted it is certainly enough to feed two people, I was expecting a side of some sort to come with it, a roll, something. Last minute I was given a cold slaw. Taste wise it isn't the best bbq I've had but if you're a carnivore like me...it will meet the need. The pulled pork had too many overcooked hard areas and the ribs were just okay. Will I be back? Maybe maybe not. I didn't eat anything that I would necessarily write home about but maybe.

I probably wouldn't stop by after trying this TGTG. I'd probably have to spend at least $60 to get a BBQ from here and it doesn't seem worth it. I would hit up Red white and Que in green Brook for decent BBQ around the area.

The Chicken Sisig, Palabok, pork BBQ and sizzling Biko with ice cream are a must-try from the food menu. The appetizers, like the piping hot vegetable lumpia and their humongous portion of Halo-halo as dessert are highly recommended by me and other reviewers. When we dined at this place, the whole staff gave me a feeling as if I was eating at an aunt's house, with the owner and staff providing very welcoming, family-style care. I have been living in NY for more than 30 years, have already eaten in so many low and high-end Filipino restaurants, in terms of food quality and taste, I may say this by far is the best that I have experienced. If given the chance to be in New Jersey again, I will definitely, 100% be back to this place for their delicious and flavorful food. Some of my companions point out that the seating area is relatively small, which can lead to limited availability during peak times, and a few note the interior decor is fairly plain but it did not matter to me because the food that I ordered/tried were great and amazing (properly spiced, cooked very well and soooooooo delicious!! ). Food portions are generous, presentation was appetizing and excellent, staff service was attentive and great ( I noticed that our water glasses were always filled up which is a service very consistent in so many high-priced restaurants that I have been ). Table setting is good, food utensils and plates were very clean ( yes, I checked it! ). I am extremely satisfied with my food experience and the hospitality of the owner and their staff in this Filipino restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE!!!

Service wasn't that great and we were the only customers there at the time then other guest staggered in . I'm all for restaurants thriving and always wish them luck but holy cow prices are crazy average appetizers are $16.50 or more and entree dishes are $25 or more for serving sizes and flavors are really lacking in a lot of dishes . Lechon was cut thinner not the usual big chunks and the oil tasted old and was greasy . Sinigang with the Baboy was very underwhelming the Baboy wasn't boiled down enough . The sisig has too much of a soy sauce taste and way too much mayo on top . The chicharron bulaklak was okay could have used a bit more seasoning and seemed to be a popular item that day . The BBQ stick was decent but not for $18 . Being Filipino myself I know everyone has their own way of making certain dishes so people may like it but in my opinion I've had better at a few other spots . Wishing them all the best .

But I found Long Ave BBQ on a Yelp search and on a trip back on I-78, I took a detour through Hillside to pick up dinner. The place reminds me of all the hole-in-the-wall places in the Ironbound with stainless steel covering everything, a brick pit charcoal grill and a giant ventilation hood sucking all the smoke up through the chimney and the whole neighborhood smells like BBQ. One innovation I see is that they use a motorized grill basket system that's constantly turning a bunch of grill baskets with chicken & ribs sandwiched in them. After perusing the menu, I order the Parrillada Portuguesa, a huge family meal for 6 people, that'll last my little family of 3 for 3 days. The PP comes with grilled chicken breast, a half chicken, pork ribs & cross sliced beef short ribs (Korean LA Kalbi style). The slices of chicken breast are too dry and with not a lot of flavor, but the pork ribs have that Ironbound Portuguese charcoal flavor I miss so much (even though a few ribs were a little tough to chew). The BBQ half chicken is alright, but not as much flavor as Peruvian rotisserie style and the short ribs are not as good as Korean style. I think they should do whole beef ribs Southern style, low and slow or even a whole beef brisket would be great. The Parrillada comes with 2 side dishes that are not shy by any means. You get an aluminum tray filled with 1/2 french fries and 1/2 rice that will be enough for 3 meals also! Next time, I would come back just for a full rack of the pork ribs, but I hope that the pitmaster doesn't overcook it.
