Ordered an 8 cut sausage and mushrooms with extra cheese. Although the bread, sausage and mushrooms and cheese were good and fresh, the sauce was devoid of flavor, leading myself to add oregano and garlic to the pizza. Maybe a bad night, who knows. read more

Okay. This place is small mom pop type corner store. But has so much to offer. We have been ordering pizza and salads from them, ever since COVID-19 calmed down a bit and people started ordering and picking up food. Their salad is always fresh and crisp. It seems like they just cut it up for you. Although the tomatoes are a mix, some fresh cut and juicy, some seemed bit squishy, but these guys still get a 5star because they really try to put all in your order I feel like. I like all kinds of pizza, I don't discriminate when it comes to pizza. That being said this pizza was absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had, and I've had some really bad pizzas. I honestly think I would've been better off going to the store and buying something frozen, because that's exactly what this pizza tastes like. No Flavor, I asked for it to be prepared well done, and crispy which was totally the opposite. The only thing I can honestly compare it to, is a piece of Stewart's pizza that was sitting in the warmer for 2 hours. A small pizza with 3 toppings, and 10 hot wings came to $33.00 which was a rip off considering the quality of the food. I won't be going back. read more

This little pizzeria and deli could very easily be missed driving along Route 4, which is located next door to Heim's Citgo in Defreestville. The place is very cramped inside with two tables for eating in and a small order counter. I decided to stop in here for lunch since my folks have been getting Route Four Pizzeria menus each month in the mail. They have pizza coupon deals in the menu, as well as specials such as 2 cheese slices & can of soda for $4.00 plus tax and the sandwich special, a deli sandwich, bag of chips, choice of salad (potato, macaroni, or pasta), and can of soda or bottled water for $6.00 plus tax. I stroll in here around 12:45PM and the place was steady, both tables occupied with office workers and several customers ordering takeout. There were a few slices on display. I ordered a Sausage Slice ($2 plus tax) and the Sandwich Special I got Chicken Salad with lettuce, tomato, onions, & provolone cheese, Baked Lays, small cup of potato salad, and a can of Diet Pepsi. The pizza slice was reheated in the oven and was decent with a soft firm crust, not too thick with right amounts of sauce, cheese, and sausage chunks. The chicken salad sandwich was overstuffed in soft wheat bread, tasted just fine. The potato salad, very small cup, was pretty good. Overall, a good lunch (my late breakfast also) for under $9.00 with efficient service. I ate the pizza slice standing by the window, while the sandwich was being made. I enjoyed the sandwich on the road on my way back to Da Skill. read more

Being from Buffalo, as you all know, home of the chicken wing, it's hard to find a place when we travel that has true "buffalo wings". While visiting my sister at west sand lake, they ordered pizza and wings. Let me just say, hands down, I'd swear they were made in Buffalo, as close to the original as possible! Have had a difficult time finding a decent pizza that isn't overpriced but also meets my high expectations. After having tried many places - and I mean many places... We decided to take a chance on Route 4 Pizzeria and were pleasantly surprised! Their plain pie is terrific right up to their more involved eggplant pizza. One of my tests if a pizza is worthy is how well it holds up refrigerated and I have to say - tastes wonderful out of the fridge. I grew up in Binghamton, so my idea of good pizza is very different than natives to the Capital Region. 12-cut square slices are what I am accustomed to; not the thin, greasy run-of-the-mill imposters that plague the northeast. So, needless to say, Route Four Pizza is a diamond in the rough for me. The crust is fantastic. It has some garlic and butter brushed on it that makes the corner pieces the ones you reach for first. A quality sauce that has a little sweetness and a little zip and an appropriate amount of cheese. Their toppings seemed pretty good, although the mark of a good pizza is if the crust, sauce and cheese can stand on their own. This pizza can. My wife and I willingly travel 30+ minutes to pick this pizza up, passing every Paesan's and I Love NY Pizza on the way without thinking twice. The wings are pretty good too. Not that greasy, but not great either. Route Four would be ranked #5 for me in Binghamton, but #1 here. It's a little piece of home (and quality pizza) that is hard to find. read more

Changing my review because they keep changing their prices whenever they feel like it. I get the exact same pizza every time I call. It used to cost just under $12. Then, it went up to $12.60. Now I just called to place an order and it's almost $14! For 1 8 cut pizza. That is shady and I will never order from this dirty place again. This is a place that we decided to try for lunch at my job one day. The prices looked great so we thought it was worth a shot, and we were very pleased, and have become frequent customers ever since. My personal favorite - the mozzerella sticks! I am a huge fan of any battered mozzerella stick, but these were amazing! Just the traditional mozzie stick, nothing fancy about it, but that may be what makes it so good. Other items I have tried and enjoy alot, the french fries - I got it for just myself, but realized it is definitely for a few! The fried mac n cheese bites were something I had never tried before, but I did enjoy it. Other people I work with have gotten and enjoyed the chicken parm sub, baked ziti, eggplant parm sub, and jalapeno poppers - and all of them have said they like it alot as well. I agree with what Ian said, it can be missed given that it is a small place, and doesn't have huge huge signs directing you towards it. My only complaint I have had is just that for delivery, they tell you 40 minutes, but it usually takes a bit longer - then again, what pizzeria doesn't say that, but no worries, the food always arrives, correct, hot, and delicious! read more

This place has great pizza and the crust has a hint of a garlic to the crispy finish. I had the chicken salad today, and that's the real reason for the review. It was the best chicken salad I've ever eaten. It was like "fat kid heaven" in my mouth. I'm am currently recovering by spending time outside this awesome day... I recently moved to the area and was really jonesing for a new pizza place. After being extremely disappointed in the crap that Dominos tries to pass as food, a neighbor recommended trying Rt. 4 Pizza. I ordered mozzarella sticks and a large cheese pizza. I have to say, I am extremely impressed! Not only are the prices extremely affordable, but it's delicious.The pizza was gooey and savory, and the crust had just the right amount of crunch. The mozzarella sticks were delicious as well. I wasn't a fan of the sauce (a bit too sweet for me), but I'm not taking off any points because that is my own personal preference and doesn't affect the overall quality. My boyfriend ate almost the entire pizza in one sitting, it reminded him of the old pizza places we had back where we used to live. We're both so happy we found our new place! We will definitely be repeat customers! Gotta love that pizza, 8 inch 'roni. :D read more

This is THE BEST pizza, wings, dinners, subs you are going to get anywhere around here and I have tried them all. I recently moved to the area and saw rt 4 on my way to work . I took the chance and ordered. It was absolutely delicious.! The fried Mac n cheese is fantastic and love love the wings! My family loves the large chef salad. However yesterday I ordered the large chef salad and it was not good. Most of the lettuce was brown and I actually had a piece of cheese with green mold on it. I tried calling to let them know but with no success. Would I order from them again ,I will however I will be sure to ask for a fresh chef salad if I should ever order again. Two times in the past 14 months I have placed larger orders here for a company event. I gave them about 24 hours notice for the order, but when I get there the food is fresh and hot. We live around the corner from Rte 4, and we love it. My roommate is big on wings, and is always on the search for good wings. No matter where we've tried, or given a chance, we always go back to Rte 4. Their sandwich special is a steal (even with Subway's sandwich deal for March - same price, and you get more food from Rte 4). $6 for a 6" sub, mac or pasta salad, chips, & a soda. (A couple of sandwiches are 50 cents or $1 more.) Their specials on a 12 cut, soda, & wings are a steal, too. The people there are always pleasant, and great to deal with. I think they've gotten to know us rather well by what we order over the phone. We purposely pick up our food (rather than delivery) just to pop in and say hi. There is no better deal for wings, pizza, sandwiches, etc in Rensselaer county. They'll deliver most anywhere in the area. Also take advantage of Wing Wednesdays, wings are just 50 cents each, so 10 is a mere $5. You can't beat that...not with this quality. read more

Absolutely love this place. A hidden gem on the southbound side of U.S. in the hamlet of Defreestville. Just past Heim's full service CITGO station. If the two spots in front are taken, just park around back. I go for the 2 slice and beverage special at 4.00 + .32 sales tax. First, I am always delighted to find a store that sells by the slice. I generally have no need for an entire pie. Second, the slices are ample in size, and a good quality cheese (perhaps Grande?; haven't asked yet) is used, and the tomato sauce beneath the cheese does not have the metallic or sour taste of some others. My only quibble is that the underlying crust is somewhat doughy. Now if that is what you like you will be a happy camper. Me, I prefer thin and crispy crust; both that's because of what I got used to for thirty years in Brooklyn. Staff is friendly and professional, and as others have noted seating is limited to two tables. read more

We had route 4 pizza cater a party after going to a party a few weeks earlier that they had catered. We had baked ziti, meatballs, 2 24 cut pizza's that they sliced into 48 slices for easier handling, anipasta, sausage peppers and onions, mini Reuben's and mini hot pastrami sandwiches. It was ALL excellent everyone raved about the food. Very reasonably priced, the owner Pete was great to work with, they delivered it the exact time we requested it came very hot. We ordered food for 60 people more than enough food had 1 full pan of ziti that we didn't even put out. Came with 3 pans of ziti only needed 1 pan. Highly recommend Route 4 pizza. read more

Quick, tasty pizza and wings, good deal! The crust on the pizza is actually flavorful- not the bland crust I'm used to.

I will start by saying I have been ordering from Route 4 Pizzeria for over 2 years at my current location, which is only 7 minutes away. The pizza is always good, but the delivery service has been terrible lately. The past 2 times I have ordered, they have been extremely late. Tonight they told me it would be 45 min to an hour for delivery. After waiting an hour and 30 minutes, I call and am told the driver is on the way. Driver doesn't show up another 15 minutes, I call back and they put me on hold then come back and say they can't get ahold of the driver and will call me back shortly. I wait another 10 minutes and call back. They make up an excuse that the driver went to the wrong road, and should have been in my driveway 2 minutes ago, which he was not. We cancelled the order which is very unfortunate. Again, we have been ordering from them for over 2 years, consistently, so they know out location... I guess I will be ordering from another local pizza shop that has drivers that can read google maps. Sorry Route 4... read more
