We were on our way up to Montreal and wanted to grab a bite to eat for lunch. I found Nic'a Trattoria with a quick search and we had a great experience there. The space is spacious with lots of seating either by tables or at the bar. It gives a hip and trendy modern feel. Our server Lydia was great. I liked that they had a kids cup for my daughter's apple juice which was a regular plastic cup with a disposable top for the straw. We shared the arancini, homemade meatballs and the 5 formaggi pizza. The arancini was a great appetizer. The was a rice ball filled with mozzarella and had a nice crisp breading. It was served with their Rosa sauce. The meatballs were good and had well balanced tomato sauce served with it and pipped whipped ricotta. The wood fired pizza is something you have to get there. Definitely one of the best wood fired pizzas I've had. It had a nice thin crisp crust and a pillowy crust end. The flavor of the cheeses and garlic was a good combination. Very delighted to add a review here! We at the bar and watched beautifully plated dishes pass us on the way out of the kitchen. The aroma wafted out of the open kitchen, through the dining area as our curiosity grew anxiously. The Atmosphere was rustic/elegant, a very lively open, family style dining space, highlighting cultural Italian photographs from the Old World. Perfectly al dente hand-made Mafaldine with finely cooked shrimp and crab lightly covered in a flavor bomb of seafood tomato sauce. The Classic pizza was fired to a delectable crisp, with basil garlic tomato sauce, and dollops of fresh Mozz. Service was quick, and one of chefs asked how we enjoyed our food which for me, speaks to proud ownership and with good reason. Be sure to make a reservation unless you want to sit at the bar. My coworker made us a reservation for dinner at Nic's while I was in town recently and I loved it. We were seated right away in a huge comfy booth. I'd recommend a reservation, as the space itself isn't that big and they were pretty busy on a weekday evening. I got a glass of wine and my friend got a cocktail. They have some really nice sounding options for drinks. We ordered the fungo pizza and chicken parmigiana to share and the food was so good! I was impressed with the portion size of the chicken parm especially - it was a huge cutlet with some pasta that was lightly sauced. It was seasoned well and cooked nicely. The pasta was a bit more al dente than I usually like but it was still tasty. I honestly didn't even try the pizza because I loved the chicken parmigiana so much, but the pizza looked delicious. ....I think this is my favorite pizza place in Albany at the moment. I went with a couple of friends, and the restaurant is spacious but still maintains a cozy feel. We shared some appetizers and three pizzas. The arancini was shatteringly crispy, with gooey mozarella in the center. The calamari was good, but nothing that stood out to me. My favorite pizza was probably their special--I don't remember what it was, but it had thin, raw pieces of beef on top that were super tender. The crust was wood-fired, with a bite to it that was crispy and chewy at the same time. We also got the Sausage Bianco and Honey Diavolo, both delicious in their own right. For dessert, I got the Coppa Limone, which was a nice palate cleanser after all the cheese. I'm definitely coming back! read more

Made reservations for a Friday night and when we arrived, we were sat immediately. We ordered the Fall Forward and Autumn Margarita cocktails to start. Both were great and we loved the fall flavors. For our entrees, we ordered the Honey Diavlo pizza, which had tomato, mozzarella, calabrian chili, sopressata, oregano, and tino's honey. It was delicious! The honey added the perfect amount of sweet and and the chili added the perfect amount of heat. We also ordered the Chicken Parm. It was a HUGE portion -- definitely good enough for two. My favorite are the arancini balls appetizer and veal parm dinner with homemade rigatoni. I eat here often and have never been disappointed.

We made a reservation eight days in advance for a Wednesday night. When I made the reservation I asked whether they had a hightop table that seated four because two in our party have back issues that require eating at a hightop. I was assured that they had one available and that we would get the table. When we arrived at the restaurant a little ahead of our reservation time we found that they had given their only 4 person high top to another party that showed up 15 minutes before our reserved time. I asked if they reserved a table and then just gave it away to someone else then what is the purpose of the reservation. Ultimately, the manager came over and said the table was already taken, they were busy, and if we weren't happy with that we should go somewhere else. We went to Chez Mike Restaurant instead and had a great meal. The manager's recommendation, while given in an obnoxious way, to go somewhere else was quite good. You should take his advice and go somewhere else. read more

I can't believe I have yet to review Nic's! Since they opened this has been a staple for us. The consistency is impeccable. I've been here dozens of times and have never had a bad meal. I highly recommend the arancini, chicken Milanese (doesn't come with pasta but a nice salad), and the ham egg and cheese pizza (not always there, they change out the menu occasionally). Honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They also have weekly specials that are also a slam dunk. Service is always great, we've never had to wait super long for service or our food. I will say they get busy and I would recommend getting reservations a few days ahead if you are going Friday or Saturday night. The interior is updated and casual. I have finally made my way to Nic's Trattoria after hearing many great things about it. You have to make reservations to get a table here so I did just that. My party was seated immediately and we decided to order the classic, the butcher, and the honey diavlo. With that being said, the pizzas here are 11" cooked in a brick oven. First, I tried the classic which is tomato, mozzarella, basil, olive oil. The pizza was solid, the crust was thin and the ingredients were definitely fresh. The mozzarella was fresh and delicious. However, the pizza could have been a bit more crispy. Next, I tried the butcher which is topped with tomato, mozzarella, provolone, prosciutto cotto, soppressata, sausage, basil, and parmesan. This is basically Nic's version of a meat lovers pizza. The meats were excellent especially the sausage and soppressata. They had the perfect mixture of saltiness and spiciness. In contrast, the bottom of the butcher was a bit soggy due to the amount of toppings. Finally, I tried the honey diavlo and it was easily my favorite of the pizzas. The honey diavlo was topped with tomato, mozzarella, calabrian chili, soppressata, oregano, and tino's honey. Knowing that, the chili and the honey matched together flawlessly to create the perfect mixture of sweet and spice. In addition, the crust of this pizza was actually crispy and the crust was done just right. I would say this was definitely the best pizza here. When it's all said and done, Nic's Trattoria offers very good pizza, but it is a bit expensive for the size. read more

I placed an order, and I can't say that I was disappointed at all. I ordered the Arancini first and it was perfect, which is a good start. Staff is lovely. The drinks are always creative and extremely well executed. Best of all the drink prices are normal and not outrages like in many other local places. The pizzas, I am from Europe, so I LOVE Nic's Pizzas. Thin bottom, crust nice crunch but still bounces back, perfect. Our favorite pizza is the Honey Diavolo, we always order it as an appetizer to share :) The Cesar cutlet salad is so yummy. Any of the cutlets ( parm dishes) are breaded and fried just the way you would get it in Europe. My husband likes the rice balls and last time I had tagliatelle with mushroom sauce. Food is hot, flavorful and served by friendly staff. My favorite remains the appetizer "Chicken Ceaser Salad". However it is more like a meal!! The food is phenomal and reservations are a must. Even locals without a reservation line up in the parking lot half hour before opening in hopes to get a quick seat at the bar to eat dinner. Make reservations at least 2 weeks out. You can always call the day before or try your luck with an early arrival for the bar.Luckly they have TO GO orders so it is a win win situation. read more

We've gotten take out from Nic's a few times, usually pizza and arancini (I'm crazy for arancini) and it was really good. I just love the honey diavolo. Today we finally got a chance to go for lunch. The restaurant was fairly empty but I hope that changes as people discover how good it is. We started with pints of fiddlehead and Allagash and an order of arancini of course. We decided to split a chicken parm panuzzo. I wasn't quite sure what that exactly was. Turns out, it was a disc of pizza dough, thrown in the wood fired oven, then split into 2 discs and filled with the chicken parm. It was so good, their pizza dough was outstanding and the combination was awesome. Leah waited on us and she was great. The only thing that I think would make it even better is if there was a vegetarian option for the panuzzo, I don't eat a lot of meat and I think the panuzzo would be awesome with some wood fired veggies and cheese. Wood fired pizza and house made pasta are two of my weaknesses. When I heard a local spot was rocking both of these, sign me up. Nic's is a new spot in East Greenbush and just looking at the menu, I knew I had to try it. It is a small menu, which is always a great sign. That means they are focused on making those dishes as best as possible. They really have everything you want in a modern Italian restaurant. They offer amazing salads, small plates, pizzas and pasta dishes. They also have a nice selection of beers, wine, and craft cocktails. We started with some cocktails, an order of calamari and the baby green salad. The cocktails were gorgeous and boozy. The calamari was probably some of the best I've ever had. The portion was great, little hot peppers fried and mixed in added such amazing pop of heat, a charred lemon on the side to squeeze over the dish, the marinara was bright and simple. It was a perfect bite. The baby green salad was also impressive. The fresh mix of peppery greens, crunchy veggies, a bright red wine vinaigrette and a whole spattering of freshly grated Parmesan. A winning salad for sure. The second round brought us three stunning pizzas and a couple beers. The Equilibrium beer was a Great pairing for this pizza spread, hoppy and refreshing. I started with the Classic cheese pizza. This style pie with so few ingredients is a good way to judge how well they make their pizzas. The high quality ingredients shine in this beautiful charred pie. If you don't like a good char on your pizza, you're wrong. The pie was bright, fresh and delicious. The second pizza was the Broccolini Bianco. I am a sucker for a white pizza and this knocked it out of the park. The pizza was also topped with roasted garlic cloves and that bite was remarkable. So simple, so good. The last pizza was the Ham egg and cheese pie. Wow. The balance of the sweet ham, spicy chili oil, the rich egg yolk, you've never had a pizza like this. They absolutely know what they are doing and this might be the best wood fired pizza in the area. We didn't stop there, nope. They have fresh pasta. I went simple and ordered the Cacio e Pepe, spaghetti. They flavors brought me back to my Nanny's house growing up. The funkiness of the cheese, so creamy, the bite of the pasta, it was phenomenal. I can't wait to try more. Every section of their menu is a gold mine of choices. This is one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Hands down one of, if not the best pizza in the area. If you're a fan of wood fired pizza then you have to try (or just pizza in general)! I have been to Nic's a few times already. Once during the soft opening and returned when they added a few more items to their menu. I have not had a bad meal, pizza or dish the three times I have been. What I like the most is that the pizzas are different! Not your ordinary flavors but they somehow make it work. Specifically the squash pizza. It is out of this world. My favorite item on the menu. I also tried almost every appetizer and I really enjoy the calamari and burrata and mortadella. Great flavors.
