We know we will always get fair, honest, knowledgeable and reliable service from this family owned business. We first took a car in that we had already been given a repair estimate on from another local area shop. The estimate that Route 66 gave us was significantly cheaper. When we asked, the owner was able to explain why their estimate was so much cheaper and sure enough when we had specific information we could ask better questions of the first shop only to find they weren't really sure so they estimated it higher. We went with Route 66 who fixed it on the first try andknew what they were looking at. On a separate occasion, we had a situation on a much older vehicle that we were just using for the kids to drive. One of the kids took it to work where the catalytic converter was ripped out, but in a catastrophic way. Clearly the thieves didn't understand what they were doing, so the net result was everything was ripped out from the transmission lines all the way through to almost the tailpipe. It was crazy. They sent us photos and explained what must have happened and then helped us figure out what the best solution for us was, which essentially was talking themselves out of a huge repair bill. We have been taking our vehicles there for several years now and each time we are met with excellent, knowledgeable and reasonably priced service with a smile. read more

My wife and I recently moved to the area, so we were looking for a new mechanic to help with some repairs. I'm so grateful to have found Rafael's auto shop! Nicole and Rafael got me a same day appointment and walked me through all the things I requested be checked. Rafael also showed me the underside of the vehicle and mentioned some things that I could do optionally and to keep an eye on, but nothing urgent. Not only an honest person, but very friendly and personable. He offered me a ride home while he worked on my vehicle and Nicole let me know when it was ready for pickup. Had a wonderful experience with Route 66 recently. They are just a few blocks from me and I had heard about them for ages, but usually when I tell people about them I hear they are very busy. So I was a little worried when I called that I might not be able to get in for a long time, but the girl who took my information quickly called me back and said that their mechanic was concerned that my issue was safety-related (a broken strut) and wanted to repair it right away. Not only did they get my part delivered to them the very same day I called, but they got my car up and running immediately (within 24 hours). The other thing I really appreciated was that the previous place I had taken my car to be looked at did not tell me that you typically want to replace struts in pairs (they were going to replace just the broken one). Route 66 explained to me that because my car was seven years old, replacing only one strut did not make sense because typically (unless the car is very new) you want to replace them in pairs. I really appreciated them going the extra mile to explain this to me and also let me know that I really needed an alignment as well (which I could tell I needed the way it was pulling to one side). The experience with the office (Alexis) was great. Super communication and follow-up. And my car drove really nicely when I got it back. Very happy and will be bringing my car back in the future! read more

One of our work trucks needed a somewhat random, labor intensive repair and I didn't want to take it to your basic repair shop. I did a bunch of research and finally landed on Route 66 Auto Service. From the start they were on top of it, communicating with me regularly with updates and gave a good, thorough description of what was wrong, what they needed to do and an estimate. Raphael called me with an update during the repair process and then I heard from him when the repair was done with an update on everything that was done. I've worked with at least 15 different mechanics across the state on different vehicles through the years. I also owned a car dealership years ago, so I know a good mechanic when I see one and he's one of the best. I had some transmission issues and some weird electrical problems. I was unfamiliar with local shops so I went to the closest one to where I parked. A week after some skipping tranny issues the only reoccurring problem was that it was very weak starting up. They first said they would only charge a flat $115 to continue to inspect. They ended up charging 1.5 hrs without acknowledging it. The only solution suggested was installing a new starter... The Mechanic (Raphael I believe) this was less then a month ago said he was checking all of the connections and wires checking for a short. I never inspected the terminals until I returned to Ohio. He said he cleaned the terminals but they were both corroded one very heavily and the connection was somewhat damaged. This might be the only obvious problem with a quick fix of brushing the Terminals! After Replacing the starter the truck started just as rough as before so $600 spent on a new starter I do not need. When I returned home and cleaned the battery the truck started beautifully. I had no time to inspect the truck while in Chicago I was staying an hour away in downtown so I didn't have easy access. They charged $600 for the starter and 1.5 hours of labor inspecting, and 1.5 hours installing. Which I know how long it takes to install a starter, 10-15 minutes. But hey they over charged to inspect too lying about the $115 flat rate only explaining that it was two inspections one half hour one full which was never discussed very deceptive behavior. And I was an easy mark out of my element in the area. $600 for corroded terminals. Really sad and they said they cleaned them which they may not have even opened the hood for all I know. Stay away save your money and misery. Everybody was really nice and friendly but when I was talking to the mechanic he seemed pretty disinterested that the starter had zero effect on the rough starting issue and quickly went inside. This place is a scam. Good day! read more

This Is the Worst Mechanic Shop you Can go to. I bought my car at Auto Highline sale and they sold me a Car with 5% Break pad left on my vehicle. I then went here to get my new brakes and rotors on. It took them one day. I came back the next day to come and pick it up and I drove off 20 minutes with it. My car was shaking when I stopped horribly even my glove department drop down. I then get out of my car. call the mechanic shop and they said to bring it back. My front brake pad was not on my rotor, completely disconnected it could've been very bad. And they destroyed my entire side of my room. And then had the audacity to tell me that they can fix it but it will be a couple weeks. They wouldn't buy me a new rim. They were just redo it this place is horrible read more

I was looking for a reasonable quote on new brake pads and roters. My car had been serviced at the dealer and a few other items were quoted, at high prices of course, and not completely explained. My husband recommended Route 66 after they helped with a tail light that went out in our other car. I found their bid to be very competitive, they were able to get me in the next day, and they picked me up and drove me home while my car was being serviced. (I live within a mile). Not only did their work get done quickly, they were able to fix two other, minor, issues without additional cost. It was all explained to me upon pickup. Horrible experience. I had a 10am appointment for an oil sensor level replacement. did not leave the place until 2:20pm. Staff consistently lied to me about the time it takes to replace the sensor, but how ignorant are they when labor is printed on the receipt. I will never be back. 8/26/21. read more

Shop is good only for basic oil change, maybe..In my opinion they do bad diagnostics, just fixing everything, witch not solves a problems, but keeps your valet thin.. Would not recommend .. read more

Rafael is a great mechanic. I towed my BMW X5 there and left driving that evening! I wasn't sure what was wrong with it besides it needing brakes. He figured it out!! He helped keep the cost down by NOT adding a lot of miscellaneous things like other places do, and he explained everything he did with care. I appreciated that he wanted to make sure I understood what he did. I've worked on cars in my life- nothing big- brake pads, brake drum, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and changing a tire. I know my way around cars, but new cars have a lot more electronics and sensors involved now. I felt very comfortable having Rafael and his crew work on my car. And they were so great to get it back to me quickly! Which that in itself was amazing because he had a line out the door! This guy's auto shop is popular! Even the mayor goes there apparently I heard from one patron. I'm so very happy to find a reliable place with an honest staff that works very, very hard to keep people on the road, and they don't overwork your pocket book- it's a diamond in the rough kind of place!
