There's no seating, but their pizza is in this reviewer's not-so-humble opinion among the very best in a town that's known for excellent pizza. The sauce is subtle but *yummy*, the pure mozzarella is always nice, and the range of toppings is brilliant. PLUS they have local Mama Lil's peppers for a sweet/spicy addition. This is the best pizza in the Portland area. I've tried so many other pizzerias and have been disappointed. There was only one Rovente location when I started ordering from them decades ago. Glad to see it's still around and has opened more storefronts. Wish we had a Chicago-style pizza place that was at least as good. Unfortunately, I've tried highly recommended places and they're a far cry from Chicago quality. Portland has lots of good food, but it sadly falls short in pizza and barbecue. Was walking down Hawthorne after a poetry reading, saw Rovente and that they were closing very soon. Not especially hungry and walked past, but loving pizza I turned around and got a cheese slice. Good size, very thin dough, savory cheese and sauce. Couple interesting looking combos, No atmosphere to the place, but windows. I just wanted a basic slice of pizza and this place rose to the occasion!! Rovente has a few locations and this one was easy to stop by. The staff was quick to take my order and pop the slices in the small oven warmer. They had more slice options than I expected, with fair prices and good size slices. I chose pepperoni and Margherita! More than thrilled that the guy really let the slices heat and crisp up! Perfecto! It made my day! Thanks :) The pizza is solid, but nothing to rave about. My brother in law recommended this place. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. This did not disappoint. I ordered on-line the Greek veggie. Everything tasted super fresh and came out 10 minutes earlier than promised. It was a Sunday night‐ but I can see why this place would be swamped. It had a well lit industrial vibe. There was counter seating, but we got it to go. Before leaving, I picked up a gift card to thank bro in law and sister for their hospitality. Rovente's Eastside location has moved about 10 blocks toward downtown, into a substantially larger location that now supports dine-in sales by the slice. The previous spot on Hawthorne was basically big enough to buy a pie at the counter and take it home. The pizza here remains consistent - not my personal favorite, but far enough up on my list that I'll happily return any time. This location does not serve alcohol, I'm not sure if any of them do, but this may be a consideration for some potential customers. However, they do have Mexican Coke and Fanta, so I consider that to be a major plus. An additional benefit to the new location is that they've moved out of the most congested part of Hawthorne for parking. The combination of a short walk and dine in slices that are available at lunchtime is a winner. read more

So far my favorite pizza since moving to Portland! We got a creamy garlic chicken pizza and garlic bread and both were so good! I can't wait to come back and try other toppings. Rovente Pizzeria, your pizzas are delicious. I always find myself coming back for more! Whether I am attracted to your prices, enormous slices, yummy crust, or simply friendly service. Everything is just perfect. Open late on Friday and Saturday. What else can you ask for? Okay, fine- you got me. There is a catch or a few: parking can be difficult (street parking), limited seating, andddd I cannot remember if they have drinks besides water. However, they have STAMP CARDS- WIN! Super delicious pizza with fantastic crust that is on the thinner side, but still soft. I got a 1/2 veggie and 1/2 pesto, with light cheese and no feta. My favorite ended up being the veggie! Both were stocked with a variety of veggies and actually look quite similar as you can see from the pictures. The reason I preferred the veggie is because the pesto was loaded with garlic that overpowered the flavor in my opinion. If you are in the mood for something garlicy, this is perfect but I was wanted to to taste the pesto more. The ranch is great and I loved dipping my pizza in it. read more

Pizza Week Review: 4 of 10 consecutive pizza slices Let this be known I have never eaten here outside pizza week! This is a pure review on pizza week, pizza week slices, pizza week prices, pizza week service, and I am going to keep saying pizza week, because their pizza week pizza was a bit... dare I say it... Pizza WEAK. I am not sure what all was going on here, the slice didn't pull me in like I hoped for. They had everything on paper that would make a great slice, but me, the wife, and my oldest were all... 'nah I am good with that' now I ate the whole slice, but I was still dreaming of the pizza stop before hand, and didn't like the overall taste profile. Now the crust and dough was good, and the pizza was done well, but the meat or maybe the sauce, just didn't add up. I hate to give a middle of the road review when they are doing something cool for pizza week, so... The gluten-free pizza was fantastic! When I came in and ordered, they didn't even Batt and I at my request for the GF pizza dough and no dairy. The woman at the counter said great we'll just switch that for vegan. We'll definitely keep their number handy and order a pie to go so my husband can pick it up on his way home. If you are not GF, they had lots of different slices, and several people came in just to grab one or two and then leave. Consistent business for a Monday night. read more

So far this is my favorite slice for the week. The pizza sauce has a nice kick to it and so does the sausage. I think they should keep this permanently on the menu. The service was also great. Delicious warm slices of pizza. Most pizza places in Portland have sucked so I said well it can't get worse than Scottie's pizza parlor. Thank pizza god this place was delicious. The staff wasn't very friendly but listening to them talk about how facial hair is generic and how mullets are coming back as we ate our pizza was pretty funny! The pepperoni was extremely flavorful. The cheese pizza was stringy how a cheese pizza SHOULD be. Great red sauce, not sweet but not acidic-y marinara. Very very good! The crust was crunchy and has delicious flavor as well. We stopped in for a quick early lunch and ended up being their twice in one day. While at first it looked like the pizza had been sitting for a second, they warmed it up in a lil mini oven and it was some of the best pizza I had in a hot minute. They go by the slice but you can easily ask for a full pizza (they have gluten free options too) and it's ready to go in 15mins. Other than the pizza being the best in the biz, the service was immaculate. Everyone in there was so nice, asked questions, and made our quick experience a memorable one. I've been here a few times and really like the quality of their ingredients and their crust (mix of not too thick, not too thin, crispy, yet fluffy). Their flavors are usually pretty good even with combos you don't expect. Their vegan Pizza Week slice had a beautiful melange of flavors far exceeding any other vegan slice I've had. Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. It is pretty limited for seating, but they have some outdoor seating, and if it's a nice day you can always just grab a seat wherever outside. read more

It breaks my heart to give Rovente 1 star, I love you guys. But there's a guy that works there that doesn't wear a mask and I can't not write about this. Other people should be able to judge their risk for themselves, a choice I didn't get. So here's the story, and I hope I can edit this in the future and say that the guy is now wearing his mask and that Rovente is safe again, but this is what happened tonight. I'd gotten a nice tip at work and decided to treat myself with a pizza to take home. I waited until the pizza was ready, went in to pick it up, had a nice chat with the guy at the register who checked my pie and handed it to me over the counter. I got two steps out the door and realized that the man I'd spoken two wasn't wearing a mask. I then saw him leave, pizzas in hand for a delivery still not wearing a mask. I called the store to verify that what I saw was accurate and not just my tired brain playing tricks on me. I learned that he has permission from the owner to now wear his mask. I have asthma and compromised lung function as well as an autoimmune condition. I couldn't risk it and had to throw the pizza away rather than eat it. It broke my heart, but at least I have the privilege to make that choice. I keep thinking about the other employees that have to work with a person who doesn't wear a mask and are not able to just leave or just not eat the pizza like I did. I know everyone is assessing their own risk. Maybe this isn't that big of a deal for someone else. But COVID could kill me if I get it and the fact that the owner is playing fast and loose with safety requirements is a deal breaker for me. After growing up passing this place all the time, we finally stepped in to grab a pizza week slice. The pizza week slice was a spicy butternut squash sauce with beyond meat ground sausage. It was delicious. The two guys working there were super friendly too. The crust was good - not too thick and the edges were chewy and crisp. It was plain in flavor but that's pretty normal as not everyone makes their crust supremely garlicky. I like that you can get slices here and then sit outside. read more

It pains me to leave this review, but the undeniable lack of care, and there being no attempt to reach out to me from "management" or owners after trying to speak to them about the issue, give me no choice. I moved to the Hawthorne neighborhood about a year ago. I had never been to a Rovantes location proir to this last year, which is when I moved to Portland. I tried it on one of my first days after moving in, as they have pizza by the slice. I live alone and haven't met too many people since i've moved here, but I frequent it passing by because it's on the walk to/from my apartment to the hawthorne shopping stretch. If this review was strictly about the pizza I would give it 5 stars easy, But it's not. After going in regularly, about every week or two, I began to notice that the staff, almost every time, was unpleasent in your interaction with them. I honestly never really cared that much, but after a while, it was noticable, that after going in often I coulnd't recall a time I was greeted with a smile, or a "How are you today?". It was always just a blank look of "What do you want". It was noticable but never something to complain about because it never really affected me, and I was consistently happy with my food. Weed before last, I had a friend in town, and we were talking about getting food before things started closing and we didn't want to cook. We started thinking about this at about 9:15. I mentioned Roventes, telling him how good it was. I had ordered there one other time (whole pie, not just a slice) and was saying we should check out the menu and what to get, try something different then what the do by the slice for the sake of getting something new. We quickly decided and I started my online order at about 9:25, being sure to hurry because I know they closed and 10 and I didn't want to put in the order too late. After finishing the order, I entered my debit card information and clicked order. A pop-up came up saying "Error - Please contact restaurant -" and their phone number. I tried calling immediatly, and it only rang. called back two more times and still only ringing. It occered to me that I had sent the order through at about 9:31 and thought maybe it had something to do with the timing being under 30 minuites before closing and thats what was up, and I checked my bank statement and I had been charged - charged $47 which was odd because I had ordered a $33 pizza and left a $5 tip so I didn't understand why I was charged significatly more then what I should have. But because I was charged I figured the order had gone though, because why would their system charge me for my order if they didn't receive it right? Wrong. my friend and I walked down to the store at 9:50 and doors were locked, lights were off, no sign in the window, but it was obvious that they were closed before I had even ordered. Utterly confused on why I was charged almost $50 from a closed restaurant, I couldn't ask my friend for his half of the pizza cost for a pizza that didn't exist. We ended up getting something from safeway, because by the time we learned about in early restaurant closure everywhere else around was closed. I called asked to speak to a manager about what happened. The person on the phone said that he was the manager, and that he had been working the night before. After explaining what happened, he asked me for my name and what I ordered, and told me he couldn't find my order in the POS system. He said that he was confused because he had closed the previous night but didn't think he was gone that early. I told him I needed that money refunded asap.o. He said it should be refunded to my card and that he was going to reach out to a supervisor about what could have happened. He asked for my name and number and said he would reach back out once he talked to the super. He never called. Because I hadn't heard from him and the next day my funds were still on hold, I went into the shop. A guy working approached me once I came in, I asked if he was the manager and he said he was and I asked him he was the one I spoke with on the phone the previous day. He said he was not and that he had been off the last couple days. I went through everything that happened, and he seemed very confused. I asked him if that was a normal response for that type of situation, to just tell the customer that too bad they decided to close early, and I have no way to expedite getting you a refund for something that you never even paid for. He immediatly got defensive and bitterly told me this was the first he was hearing about it and what did I expect him to do. I told him an apology and maybe some kind of complimentary slice or a gift card would have been nice, but not when I have to ask for it. I was pissed, and left. I was contacted later that day, and told my card would eventurally be refunded and that was that. I tried getting in contact with a owner or higher up and got nothing. read more

Judging pizza is hard, because one person's magnum opus is another's "Meh...". Rovente falls somewhere in the crowded middle of quality: Far above grease-dripping garbage like Dominoes, a bit fresher and tastier than Straight From New York, about on par with Atomic Pizza, not as good as A Pizza Sholls and definitely not at the level of Mississippi Pizza (ahlog-smack!) I think they need to work on their crust. I am a traditionalist, so I usually get pepperoni, black olives, green peppers and mushrooms. They are a quality joint but quality defined by maybe a freshman at PSU. They do deliver quickly and the staff is usually pretty friendly (the staff at New York are a bit indifferent), so if you pass by and you're wanting a slice, you won't be disappointed, but do not prepare to be thrilled. Think of them as that slightly boring friend of yours that's been around for ages and is just fun to hang out with once in a while. read more

This is the answer to all hungry tummies after a stroll down Hawthorne browsing and possibly fighting with other vintage clothes shoppers. A tiny shack that anywhere else besides Portland might seem questionable, but here it just means good pizza. My then date now bf ordered himself 2 slices (I wasn't hungry). One pepperoni & one fancy veggie looking one. We sat on the damp picnic tables outside. I tried a bite & I couldn't stop. We looked at each other & he began eating his slice in hand faster than I had ever seen him eat because he was scared I'd snatch it right out of his hand (he already knew me too well). We had our introduction to Rovente last night. Went there to pick up a chicken-artichoke creamy garlic sauce thin crust pizza. Those poor workers! It must have been over 100 degrees in there even though it was not more than 65 outside. How do they endure it? But I digress. The chicken on pizza was great. Nice slices of real meat (as compared to the chicken on pizza at say, ahem, Round Table). Pizza baked to a nice delicate golden brown. Tasted great, but the creamy garlic sauce was too creamy making the pizza gloppy. While Rovente was generous with the chicken , we had to hunt around for the artichoke. Also, the slices are too large; they should be half the size they are. The only place to eat pizza on the premises are on some picnic tables outside on a scraggly lawn. I would much rather write a positive review because I love their pizza, but when my wife went to pick up our pizza tonight the man behind the till (which is indoors) wasn't wearing a mask. When she called back to ask about it, she was told that this employee never wears a mask and has been given permission by the owner to do so. He's also the person delivers the pizzas. My wife was told that this is not the first complaint they've recieved about the employee's behavior, and that it's also making the other employees uncomfortable as well. I understand that wearing a mask is uncomfortable, but taking that small action to keep your community safe can make a big difference, and I'm very disappointed to learn that Rovente's doesn't value the health of its customers or employees. read more
