We enjoyed our dinner at Rowland for Richmond Restaurant Week. They only had two staff in the front - a server and bartender. Both seemed to do a great job and really hustled. The restaurant wasn't that crowded so it wasn't too bad. The server did a great job. We tried three different appetizers and the winner was the meatballs with the soup second and the shrimp manicotti coming in second and third. Two of our group had the blackened rockfish with crawfish etouffee which was excellent. Two of us had the flat iron steak and one was great and the second one was a poor cut of meat that the knife couldn't get through. They were great at replacing the inedible steak. Very reasonably priced cocktails which was nice. For dessert the apple dessert was prefered over the bread pudding. It was a nice evening with a lovely restaurant week menu.

It pains me to write a bad review of a local neighborhood spot, but it was a horrible inedible meal a few nights back at Rowland. First there was only one server for the entire restaurant. For the bar too. We felt bad for her but it took 45 minutes to get our appetizers. They were absolutely disgusting. They were clearly pre frozen and nuked to serve. We had the Lima bean cake, the calamari and an absolute disaster of a carnita roll. The carnita roll was still frozen in the middle. My stepson found hair in the bean cake. We didn't eat the apps, didn't order anything else and left. My stepson is at VCU getting his masters. We gave him cash to get dinner at Kroger. The server was nice and felt bad. We paid and tipped her but will never go back.

Pumpkin bread pudding was tasty but smaller than it looks in the picture.

We went for restaurant week and we were so excited to go but we left feeling very disappointed. The food we got was delicious and the home made bread was a good start to the night but the portion sizes were so small and my husband and I both left feeling pretty hungry. We had to make some snacks for ourselves when we got home. The wait staff was kind and the ambiance of the room was cozy and warm which I enjoyed. I'd be interested in seeing non-restaurant week portions to see if it's worth the money but I doubt we'll be back. My husband and I shouldn't spend $122 on our food and cocktails and leave feeling like I had snacks rather than a filling meal.

Love this restaurant and their amazing specials. This dish was amazing along with the roasted red pepper bisque for a starter. Macadamia crusted Halibut for the win!

Rowland is a small, intimate restaurant located in the Fan. I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy as a walk-in would likely take awhile to accommodate. The service and most of the food was great. The carbonara definitely could have been better. It was surprisingly a little bland and the presentation wasn't up to par with the other dishes, which doesn't bother me but they do consider themselves a "fine dining" restaurant. The risotto was my favorite and I would have ordered it as an entree if I could. It was pretty dark inside and somewhat loud but I think it'd make a nice date night for a special occasion.

I'm not sure it's fair to review a restaurant during restaurant week. I have to say I walked away a little hungry because the portions were small but that might've been because it was restaurant week. Our drinks were lovely and very strong and the soup with short ribs was incredible, my entrée of cinnamon pork was lacking in taste the flavor and the bread pudding did nothing for me.

Overall, the food was not very impressive to me. However, the mushroom ravioli with duck confit is to die for. I would come back just for that dish. I wish I got more of that. The lamb sliders and lamb chop were both very pink/red, almost bleeding. That's not how I prefer my meat, so that might just be a personal preference. The pork chop did fall right off the bone. The server was really nice. The restaurant is really smoky because the kitchen ceiling is not enclosed. I would definitely come back to try different items on their menu and 100% come back any time mushroom ravioli was on the menu.

Only street parking is available, but it wasn't too difficult to find a spot. The atmosphere: Very rustic vibe with some farmhouse-style decor. They have table, high-top, bar, and patio seating available. The food: I opted for the Chicken and Waffles with a side of cheese grits. I chose to make it hot for more spice. It's served with one whole waffle, two large pieces of fried chicken, and syrup on the side. The chicken was not seasoned as much as I hoped and wasn't as spicy as I expected, which was a bummer. The cheese grits were alright as well, but not as flavorful as I hoped. My partner ordered the Double Barrel Bowl, and he really enjoyed it. It was packed with pulled pork and was plentiful and filling. The service: Great and kind service from Mave (I believe that is her name but I'm not entirely sure). She informed us about the daily specials and was attentive throughout our visit.

We had our pick of high-tops or traditional seating and chose a booth (the superior choice IMO). The ambiance and atmosphere felt modern and classic with a touch of ostentatious flair (the bird mural and columns up front were gorgeous). I prefer a curated menu and Fall Line keeps it simple. There are options for most people here. We ordered the skillet cornbread to start. C'est magnifique. We ordered from the sharables menu: the barrata, grilled cauliflower, and burnt ends. The barrata was the clear winner, followed by the cornbread. The burnt ends tasted fantastic, yet were too fatty to enjoy fully. Some constructive feedback: The cauliflower was a major disappointment; it needed additional time on the grill and more sauce to boot. I felt the barrata should have included one extra pair of crustinis. The apricot mostarda was divine, though. They don't carry a sour beer, so my partner and I did not partake. All in all, Fall Line Kitchen was a lovely experience, and our server Satya was a pleasure as well. As we exited, the kind host offered to take our picture in front of the light-wrapped columns. What a gentleman. I definitely recommend bringing a date here to enjoy the cozy, intimate setting, as you gaze lovingly into one anothers eyes, take in the exceptional views, and experience all that its surroundings offer.

I've been here a few times now, and every visit has been a good one. The happy hour menu has a great selection, the drinks are always on point, and the atmosphere is perfect for unwinding after work or catching up with friends. One of my favorite things about Burtons is how versatile it is. Whether you're stopping in for happy hour, grabbing dinner, meeting friends for drinks, or planning a date night, it's always a solid choice. The Carytown location is another plus, with plenty to do before or after your visit. Parking can be a little challenging depending on the time of day, but that's expected in such a popular area. There are several nearby garages and parking decks that make it manageable. If you're looking for a great happy hour in Richmond, I'd definitely recommend checking out Burtons!

Burton's has such an amazing selection of alcohol. They don't even have rail alcohol just top tier offerings. I enjoyed an espresso martini made with tequila which was absolutely perfect. I also had a desert flower made with mezcal, elderflower and prickly pear. Listen I can't wait for another. Huge shout out to Yelp for the amazing event and our server Peggah who was absolutely the cutest. Great customer service; knowledgeable; made suggestions and was super personable. The staff were polite, but we had to ask several times to get items we were missing or things we wanted extras of. They checked in on us a fair number of times, but they still forgot to return to give us what we had asked for. By the time we were ready to leave, we still haven't gotten our dressings or our condiments. I also had asked for my burger to be well done, but I got a burger with quite a bit of pink in it. I didn't want to ask for it to be placed back on the grill because I didn't really want to wait longer for my food. Although I wanted my burger to be well done and I didn't get it that way, it was still pretty good. The fries though, I think was the best part of it. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crunchy! I also ordered a coke. Just a heads up, they don't do free refills on the sodas, so each cup is $4. My party also ordered salmon l'orange and a romano salad with salmon. My friends really enjoyed their main dishes, but we did ask for extra dressing. The restaurant is decorated in a boho-style vibe, and it was cute. Upon entering, I was reminded of a 1950s pharmacy by the humongous "Prescriptions" sign hanging above the bar, and the antique furniture, bar, and barstools splayed throughout Tarrant's. There was a solid crowd at the bar; it's clear there is a regular crowd that sits and hangs out here. We were promptly seated by a young blonde woman in the dining section (behind the bar). Our server, Nadia, was an enchanting brunette, training another young server, Sierra. She took our drink orders and gave us plenty of time to review the menu, checking in after a few minutes to see if we were ready. We finally decided, my partner ordered the 10" Bianca White (pizza), and I chose the Sailor Sandwich. Unfortunately, the sailor was not in the cards for me, and Nadia suggested the Reuben as they were similar. They brought out breadsticks while we waited, and the food arrived within 10-15 minutes. I was pleased with the atmosphere, the old-fashioned chandeliers, the large mirror, the floral paintings, and the rustic frames, all of which added to the restaurant's stated aesthetic. The pizza was hot and savory, while the Reuben had buttery toast, crispy corned beef, and a light smattering of sauerkraut (TBH, I didn't even notice the sauerkraut). For dessert, we indulged in the upside-down walnut apple pie, served with vanilla ice cream, all made from scratch, and beautifully delicate. Our time at Tarrant's Cafe seemed like a stroll into the past; the only indication of modernity was the ordering kiosk used by the staff. We truly enjoyed our time and had deeply meaningful conversations without enduring the hustle and bustle or the rowdy cacophony of an intense crowd.
