I had a great experience with Arturo and his crew. I was supposed to move on Friday and had another company come out and try to charge me over double what i was quoted. I called David right away and sent him detailed pictures of everything he needed to move for me. He said it wasn't a problem and quoted me $800 for a full truck. The guys showed up at 8:45am ready to go. They walked around and said "you have a lot of stuff...". I was worried because I heard that phrase before, then he said "we will get it moved quickly". I was relieved. They had everything loaded by 12pm. They went to go grab lunch and we're at our storage facility by 12:30. They were efficient and had everything loaded up into our storage unit by 1:30. I was very impressed with their Tetris skills. If you need movers, these are your guys! I heard about Roy from a former co-worker who has used him numerous times and I couldn't have been happier. Her recommendation did come with the IMPORTANT CAVEAT I pass on to anyone I recommend him to: Roy is not a great communicator (that was very diplomatic), it will be hard to get a hold of him and make sure you follow up shortly before your move to make sure he hasn't forgotten about you. With that warning in mind I contacted Roy. On the downside it took me several calls to touch base with him and he is a pretty surly guy. On the upside he came to my house, looked at what I had to move and quoted me a price - $275, which was nice, I knew there would be no surprises or extra fees on moving day. He showed up when he said he would with a bunch of guys, they had my big items wrapped and my stuff loaded in under an hour. All in all the move took under 3 hours and they (1) carried my sofa up 5 flights of stairs after finding it was a smidge too big for the elevator, (2) had me moved in under 3 hours all while it had to be 10 below, and (3) everything made it in one piece, not a thing was broken. For the price of the move I'm not surprised Roy isn't warm & fuzzy or organized and I'm fine with that. TIP: if you're moving on a weekend, particularly at the end of the month call a few weeks in advance. TIP: I moved on a Thursday and it was great, everyone was working so it was easy to park and commandeer my building's elevator without pissing my new neighbors off. read more

I used these guys after six friends told me they were great. I had a two bedroom condo down sizing to a one bedroom going from south loop to river north (1.8 miles) I was told that if I had gotten rid of my furniture there would be a discount... Day of move.. They show up an hour late. And then after selling my furniture.. (two tables, a Sectional, accent chair and a bed) I was told.. Oh well you have too many boxes. So no discount. Are you kidding me?! I was not happy. Yes they were fast. Two hours and the whole thing was done. But shady business I don't appreciate. I still tipped. Why? Because I felt like the workers shouldn't be punished for poor owners and managers. A decent price overall but not the way to do business. And also...when talking poorly about the people in the home.. Make sure you know they don't speak Spanish. I am fluent. I understood everything that was said about me. read more

I was referred to Roy's by a friend, so I called Roy's and Jesus came to my place to assess the move. He gave me a quote that was a good amount cheaper than the other quotes I had gotten so far, so I agreed to use his services. Set up an appointment and called him the day before to confirm we were still on schedule. They came on time the next morning (5 minutes early actually), and they went to work. All I can say is WOW. I didn't have a ton of stuff, but it was still a 1 bedroom apartment with all the furniture you would expect (couches, tables, TVs, etc.) as well as a workout bench, and they were incredibly fast and efficient. They handled everything with care - they wrapped everything in plastic and some things in both cloth and plastic. They disassembled my giant bed frame and took it to the new place. Between wrapping/unwrapping everything, loading/unloading, and disassembling/reassembling, the entire move (from Irving Park to Bucktown) took under 90 minutes. This is my third move with Roy. And I'll continue to use him. Yelpers...Please take the following into consideration when you move with Roy. 1. You MUST call him about 3-4 days in advance of your move. 2. You MUST call him and confirm your move 1 AND 2 days ahead of your scheduled move. 3. You MUST move on a day where there are NO OTHER APPOINTMENTS. If yo do these three things, you WILL have an easy, cheap, fast, professional move. If you don't do these things, it's your own fault and you can pay $1000 to someone else who charges hourly...not a flat rate. $600 total (includes tip). We had 7 guys (again), they got to our house five minutes early, broke nothing, and had our 3rd floor walkup, 2 BR apartment moved to our 2 BR single family home in a little less than 3 hours. 4 Words: Roy is a JERK. I heard about Roy the Mover from a coworker, and then read the reviews on Yelp and was jazzed. So I called and set up a time for him to come look at my stuff and give an estimate. Here is the background of my semi-unique situation. My roommate and I are moving to different new apartments, but obviously on the same day. Also, her new place is literally 2 blocks north of our current apt, and mine is literally 4 blocks south. Since all three apartments are within a mile of each other, we figured we could share a mover. Our current place is a TINY two bedroom. We barely have any furniture. She owns: Couch, love seat, full bed, TV and small stand, 3 small dressers, desk, tall skinny bookshelf. I own: Coffee table, queen bed, 2 small dressers, tall skinny bookshelf. Note that I own practically nothing. So Roy comes over and we show him around and explain the situation and he starts doing calculations of some sort. He tell my roommate her move will be $200. I'm thinking, ok, mine will probably be practically nothing, so this isn't too bad. Then he tells me mine will be $175! So I calmly say that it seems crazy to charge only $25 difference when she has 2 couches, an extra dresser and desk! He rolls his eyes at me and says (and I quote) "Fine, then I will raise her price, if you're going to cry about it." !!!! Excuse me ass hole. I tell him that's ridiculous, he tells me to hire a regular moving company then and walks out. Outrageous. read more

These guys are ridiculous. Okay, so they showed up 30 minutes early and if my sister hadn't been home they would have been sitting there waiting for me (I hope). And so what if the reviews about calling to remind them and a general lack of pleasant customer service banter is true. The fact is these guys busted their butts and didn't break/scratch/damage a single thing. I only had a one bedroom apartment to one bedroom apartment to move (with about 30 boxes) and these guys managed to get it all finished, including the drive from Brookfield to Forest Park, in well under two hours. There were four guys and they rocked it out. I know by the reviews they can sound a bit shady, but honestly, this is one of the least stressful moves I've ever head. I did call to confirm 5 days and 1 day ahead of the move as per the suggestions in other reviews. They knew who I was each time and confirmed the appointment back to me (even if they were 30 minutes early). I should have a second review on them soon as I'm pretty sure my sister is using them for her move in a few weeks. Personally, I will be keeping them on my phone list for future moves. read more

I found Roy the Mover from Andrea's Yelp review, and not surprisingly, her review was RIGHT on. I had Roy just move my large apartment items (I moved and packed my small items myself), and he moved all these large items plus several large boxes for $200, in under 2 hours. Andrea was correct that you really need to call Roy every day for five days before you want to move to remind him to show up. And don't get worried when he doesn't recognize you each time you call. His team showed up (one hour late) and moved my things quickly and cheaply. Because he is so much cheaper than other movers, you sacrifice a sense of reliability. His team also damaged the elevator of my new building, which was disappointing. All in all, Roy the Mover is a good value, but you sacrifice quality for the price. read more

Roy the Mover was recommended to me when I moved last summer. I was very happy with his services! He was extremely cheap (cost me less than $200 to move my entire apartment) & fast (his guys moved everything in about an hour). My one complaint is that he wasn't the most reliable mover...I was warned to call him everyday ahead of time (for a week) to remind him of my move and he seemed to forget who I was every time I called. I was a bit worried he wasn't going to show up the day of the move, but they were only 1/2 hour late (which I guess isn't too bad for a moving company) and had me moved into my new apartment in record time. read more

I called Roy at the suggestion of a good friend, because I suddenly had to get my furniture moved on the double. I was making due with an air bed, but the damn thing sprung a leak! Roy was on vacation and asked that I give his guy Chuy a call. He was able to set an appointment for the next day! A 1BR move from Oak Park to West Rogers Park cost me $250 plus tip and it was done in LESS THAN 2 HOURS! They came, they loaded, the drove and unloaded within that time. It was Chuy (SUPER NICE) and his two guys and they were done, lickedy split! Everything was wrapped up professionally, no damage, no lost items and they even moved a few more things that I didn't include on the original quote. This is unfortunate and I really wish I didn't have to write this review. We have used them twice to move and referred them many times to family members and friends. Two of the 5 men gave me a bad feeling the moment they arrived, unmasked. I should have gone with my gut, but didn't. We had a significant amount of money that did not move from our old house to our new house. It was hidden in a spot where we shouldn't not have left it, and we completely forgot it was there (between mattress and box spring). At one point it was in plain sight and it was clearly taken by one of the movers when they disassembled the bed. Very unfortunate that we can't trust the people we have hired multiple times over the years. In addition, one of the two men asked if he could have a beer at 10am (I said no...) and he was the first to ask again at the end of the move. Very unprofessional. The other man kept rooting through my open donation boxes after I told him about 10 times those were not to be moved and not to be gone through. I wish I would have watched them closer during the entire move, but I shouldn't have to do that. We are hoping the money is returned or we may have to take the next step in contacting the police. I've used these guys 3 times now and my experience is totally in line with all the other reviews: -Disorganized appointment "system" (need to call to confirm 3-4 days in advance, then again the day or two before) -Sometimes show up early and ask if you're ready to move (no, I'm not even home yet because you said you wouldn't be there for 3 hours...) -Efficient as all hell (they come with 8+ guys who just go to town on your stuff, wrapping everything in plastic wrap and moving it out faster than I could even imagine) They are quirky but they will get your move done fast and efficiently, the only limiting factor is how fast you can get out of their way. read more

Used Roy the Movers for move from Lincoln Park to Greektown. The initial communications with Roy were on par with what I had read - persistence is a must, send reminders to Roy constantly as he doesn't seem to write appointments down. Once he came to give estimate it was way below any one else I spoke with which in retrospect should've been a red flag. Long story short, the team Roy sent was recklessly fast about getting everything on truck. Once everything was loaded in at new place and thinking I was alone in apt, one of the workers popped out of my hall bathroom and said bye then left. Confused I go in bathroom and find he used my trashcan as the toilet (number 2). I called Roy and the movers to ask for explanation - they didn't have much to say for themselves. So if you don't mind dings on your furniture or workers using your trash can as a toilet this is the one for you. Embarrassing experience - horrible. read more

Definitely a cheap and insanely fast move (2 hours and 15 minutes to go from a two bedroom, first floor apartment in Andersonville to a 3 bedroom, 3rd floor apartment in Evanston). They wrapped up all of our furniture and nothing was missing or broken. We didn't have any large pieces (threw out out bed and gave away all of our furniture), so it was mostly boxes and misc. Roy came highly recommended from a family member, so we scheduled a move from the northwest suburbs to Lincoln park in Chicago. We set an appointment over a week out (with Roy) and was given a fair estimate. When we called back a week later (and day before the move) to confirm, there was no answer from Roy and his staff. The move was scheduled for 1pm on Saturday, we called the morning of (around 9am) to confirm again and still so response from them. By 2pm, we had still not gotta any answer so I called the number listed on here. A man (Jesus) answered and referred us to their other office. Who then led me to the crew that was supposed to take care of the move. Clearly confused and unaware of the order, the man who was leading the crew was flustered and hung up the phone. Another foreman (Edgar) of a different crew called back to pick up the order, staying they'd be arriving at 4pm (3 hours after the scheduled time). At 4:30 the crew finally arrived and started the process. The only reason why this order gets 2 stars is the efficiency and quickness the crew moved our stuff (which was a decent amount for the space we have) and the price. From an organization and communication standpoint, this was one the worst experiences I've ever had with a service company. With the exception of Jesus and Edgar, this company had no accountability for its mistakes. I would think twice before scheduling a move with these guys, and if you do, be sure to call everyday for a week before the order to make sure it's scheduled. read more

Jesus and his crew of movers were wonderful this morning! They were on time (early even,) friendly, quick, efficient and careful with all of our things. They wrapped our couch and dressers with protective plastic, which was an added bonus. I was actually bummed at first because they didn't have an opening until 9/2, when I needed to be out by 9/1, but Jesus let me know he had an earlier opening today and that worked out even better for us. The price was amazing and I actually felt bad I didn't have enough to tip them more. I would recommend Roy the Mover to anyone who needs movers. It is easier to break down to Pro's and Con's: Pro's- beyond cheap for a mover, very quick, wraps furniture carefully, doesn't ruin any walls Con's - you have to follow up constantly, did not come with the wardrobe boxes he said he was bringing, took apart my couch and lost a piece to attach it and said it was my fault verdict: for a simple apartment move he is well worth it because your stuff will get there safely and you can't beat the price. Best move ever. Roy's team dashed through my house, took apart my bed, wrapped up all my furniture (with drawer intact) and completed a 2 br move within 3 hours. Roy's guys came to the house with an estimate, he's a good guy. Very dry, even when he cracks jokes. But not there to be your friend, he's running a business. I didn't do any follow up's and even forgot to return his phone call to comfirm, not only that, my buzzer was already disconnected from the door. They tracked me down and got in. And while there a couple of numbers to call, I was able to reach Roy every time I called, so I am not sure what's up with the communication issues other people had. I would say the icing on the cake was that not only did they put all the furniture and boxes in the appropriate rooms, they put my bed back together without my even requesting. WIN read more

Jesus and his crew were literally the best moving crew I've ever seen. I have moved four times over the last 6 years both internationally and domestically and these guys are by far the best. Scheduling the move and the estimate were smooth. We locked in the date and they called me twice to confirm as we got closer. On the day of the move, they arrived early. They were extremely fast and very careful with our belongings. I could not believe how quickly and efficiently they got all our stuff up to the fourth floor apartment with no elevator. I heard about Roy from a co-worker who simply said... "If you don't mind your things getting dented, call Roy" A few weeks before my move, Roy showed up to my apt and gave a really cheap estimate -- $125 for a 1 bedroom. He did show up to my apartment for my move, but he called and said he was ten minutes away. My move wasn't supposed to be until 4:00 in the afternoon. He called at 9:00 am and said it was the only time they could come. I told him I wasn't done packing, he said they would pack for me. His crew showed up and threw all my stuff in to boxes and had me moved out in a thirty minutes. Everything arrived in good condition, except for a mattress that I asked them to wrap (and supplied the tarp) and they did not. Not bad.... until I finally noticed that some things did go missing, but I only noticed a week later when I finished unpacking. Roy said that it wasn't their fault and I should look around or check my old apt. Nothing turned up. I saved $350 on the move, but that's about the cost of the two suits that went missing. My roommate got Roy's number from her aunt who has used them on several occasions and we were looking for a cheap move so we called him up. He set-up a time to come out and look at the apt and quoted my roommate $300. We have a two bedroom with a decent amount of stuff (about 30 boxes in addition to all the major furniture, queen and full beds, desk, etc...) and we were moving to a third floor. We booked with Roy (who my roommate admitted was a little strange to deal with and she did have to be rather persistent about setting up the appointment time) for a Saturday at 5. Well, Roy actually did call and confirm on Friday night and the guys showed up Saturday at 430. This was the fastest move EVER. Let me repeat... E.V.E.R. Start to finish the guys moved us in one hour and 5 min. Not a single dent in anything! Now, will I take a little credit for being super-packer extraordinaire? certainly. But these guys were just beyond fantastic. There were about 6 guys (that is an estimate since they were scurrying in and out so fast I couldn't really keep track of them) and they were all super nice and polite. Wrapped up all the major furniture... WITHOUT charging for any supplies! Seriously. It was unreal. I had ordered them a pizza and beer (it was around dinner time and I figure a 5 pm saturday move is probably the end of the day for them) and I was afraid they would be done and gone before it got here! Not one single complaint from this girl (and I have had nightmarish mover-related experience, so I am generally untrusting and critical of the profession in general). I could care less about Roy's general personality or attitude (he wasn't actually there for the move anyway). I used Roy the Movers to move my stuff from Lombard into an apartment in Lincoln Park. I had one of those cheapie folding tables with metal legs and the guys were going so quick that the leg got hooked and separated part way from the table. I have to agree with everyone who says these guys are fast and cheap. I still wound up tipping the guys (how much do you tip a mover?) and fixing the table myself. One thing that made the move go a little faster was stopping by the Alderman's office and requesting a temporary "no parking" zone where Roy & co. could idle their truck for a few minutes. read more

We hired Roy for three moves. He came by and gave us a quote in person. When you contact him, you have to leave a voicemail and then he calls you back. My friend moved her living room & bedroom from the burbs to downtown into my apartment ($250) - up 3 flights of stairs. My previous roommate had them move her things into my bedroom ($50) - up 1 flight of stairs. I moved my bedroom and half a living room to another 2 bedroom apartment ($200) - down 3 flights of stairs. The person who's room I moved into, moved her bedroom into a studio ($200) - Grand total $700. The movers arrived on time at 8am at the first location. They completed all the moves before noon. They disassembled my bed and office desk and reassembled it in my new place. That was awesome!! All the furniture was wrapped properly and they were careful not scratch any of the walls. I used Roy the movers for my move in March. It does seem like the review below of the show 24. All this is true, you call one number that directs you to another and you leave a message on a womens voicemail and then Roy returns your call after 9:30pm and gives you a very competive quote. One you cannot refuse. Although they did tell me a time and then changed it at the last minute and still showed up late. They did an awesome job. It was quick, efficient and I had no damage to my furniture. I could not believe how fast these guys were moving. You would think for someone to move that fast it would be a sloppy job but they are very good a this. I was having my sofa set delivered at the same time these guys were moving me in. They had me moved in (which includes rebuilding my bed) before my sofa set made it up. Maybe The RoomPlace needs to hire Roy the Movers instead of what they had. Also, all the guys were very polite. I believe the price to be a little much for our move but the service and time it took to get us moved was superb. The team arrived at 8 a.m. and we were moved into our new house 15 min up the road by 1 p.m. They really do know their business and were careful at every turn and communicated with us every step of the way. Awesome Job, just moved in today and I was their first move for the day. I live in a high rise 1 bedroom apartment. Moved all the small stuff myself and had them move my big stuff (bed, tv, 2 dressers, tv stand, dining table, lamps, couch etc.). Cost me 175 dollars +tip. My appt was for 9am, got a call the night before saying they would be here at 8:30, I actually saw them pulling into the lot at 7:50, the doorman let me start moving early and we were out of their by 8:30 and started moving into the next place at 8:50 (my elevator time was 10am, but again they let me move in early). They had everything moved in and rebuilt by 9:15. As for calling a lot, I did that because that's what the reviews said. I think Roy is not with it, but the rest of the crew is on top of things. This company understands customer service. I scheduled a move with them with only 4 days notice. If that wasn't enough, I then had to change the move date to the next day and there was a time slot for the elevator. Jesus said no problem, we will be there and we will bring extra guys to get this done. They showed up on time. They packed an entire 1-bedroom apartment and moved it within 4 hours. Roy, you owe me a star!! I used Roy back in the day and he was pretty good...I used him several times. However, now, fame seems to have gone to his bed. He has two numbers, neither of which anyone answers. His voicemail box is constantly full (Roy, google delete). When you are lucky enough to get him, he'll get info from you and then on your next call, it's as if you never talked (Roy, google pen and paper). He'll tell you that he's going to stop by your place to check it out so he can give you a price, but he'll give you no window. So, you stay home and wait for him and then he never shows anyway. So, you start to wonder...is this going to happen on moving day when I have a 2 hour window to use the elevator for the move??? After several calls back and forth with Roy (and a couple missed appointments where he was going to come by and give an estimate), my girlfriend summed it up with the following "I booked check-mate movers! Roy is an idiot!" Roy, YOU ARE AN IDIOT!! That much is certain. However, if you're willing to play the game, Roy is pretty inexpensive (his guys are great too, so even though they may not have insurance, they are extremely nice and very careful). So, maybe Roy, I'll give you that star back for your guys...how's that.
