We contacted Royal Air for a ductless mini split quote for our home. It took nearly 3 weeks for the quote to be returned (I had to follow up multiple times), and Royal quoted in excess of $50,000 for our 2,100 sq ft home, which was more than double our next highest quote. These were ductless units, and a fairly straightforward installation with a fully accessible unfinished basement for wiring. The company seems professional, but if you're considering quotes for a new install, you'll find significantly more reasonable and competitive options elsewhere. read more

Joe and {I'm sorry I forgot your name} were very helpful and came over on the Saturday and Sunday before Christmas. One of the bedrooms in our house was really hot and would not cool down so royal air sent someone over right away. The first day joe came a fixed some valve that was free of charge. Recently called the "local place" to get a price on replacing a Furnace and A/C unit. We had used them in the past to get our roof A/C running, but this time where it was a replacement issue and a costly one at that we decided to get a few quotes for the work. After doing so it quickly became clear we had to go in a different direction we had quotes for 50% less and are getting the whole job done for 1/2 price of the quote they provided. I had them come out to repair an a/c unit. I didn't have a cover on the a/c unit and I wanted to buy one. So I asked that they measure the unit so I would purchase the right size. I was told not to even buy one as they are not good. Which is true as I researched it, you are better off to put a board over it. Anyway, I was charged 43.00 for them to measure the unit. First off they did not itemize the bill, so I asked them to do that, and that is when I saw the $43.00 charge to measure the unit that took a minute. After 6 months they decided to take the $43.00 off the bill. At least they did the right thing in the end but, I will not use them in the future. They did fix the a/c unit. read more

My house was affected by the Columbia Gas explosions and we will not have heat or hot water for at least 2 months. I called Royal Air Systems to install an electric water heater that I bought myself so my family has hot water. They refused to. I told them I would return it and I would pay them for the electric water heater. They still refused. First, the reason had to do with what they would have to charge me. I could care less what they charge me. I have an open claim with Columbia Gas. Then the reason was they would have to come back and reverse it and they want to touch anything related to what Columbia Gas is doing. I've been using Royal Air Systems since we converted from oil to natural gas in 2001. A loyal customer. In time of need they decided they didn't want to help my family. I don't take any pleasure in writing a review like this but i think it's necessary given the circumstances. read more

Guess we need to join everyone else on this website site in giving Royal Air Systems a 5 star review! they installed a new hot water heater in 2011, and we just finished having them replace our gas furnace. They did an outstanding job. They came out and measured for the correct size unit to be installed. They opened a spot in a closet so they could view and verify the existing PVC venting (then closed it neatly with a register). They came to work and were neat, clean, quiet, thorough, meticulous, and organized. Every zone they put in was labeled, and the work area was left immaculately clean. it was a pleasure dealing with them. All the people on their team are true professionals and take pride in their work. What's really amazing is the longevity of the staff. Their service people have worked with them for 20 years, 15 years etc. My husband and I always thought that they were particularly solid company, and a place of integrity, and now we know for sure! Today we woke up to no heat. We called Royal Air and over the phone they walked us through solving the problem. They stayed on the phone with us for about 20 minutes until the heat came back on. We have used this company for over a dozen years to service our furnace. They installed our new furnace when the one that came with the home died. Every person we have dealt with to service the furnace has been super helpful and professional. They are not out to make a buck and are so service oriented. I'd initially rated their service a 1 for what I thought was a completely unfair charge of $83 for a 4 min job of reconnecting two wires (with no additional wire added) that mice had chewed up on my outside AC unit. There already was a trip charge of $89. After contacting the owner about the disproportionate charge, he agreed to follow up with the service technician and get back to me ... making no promises at the time. I didn't hear back so I decided to follow up a few days later at which time he agreed that I should have been given the opportunity to know the cost upfront and thus have the option to decide to perform the repair myself. Our central air did not work well upstairs with the single zone. Arthur came over and we discussed various options. With the summer we had I knew we needed to do something and we decided to bite the bullet and have a whole heating and cooling system added as a second zone. Cassandra was awesome with planning the scope of work, proposing various options, and getting the work scheduled very quickly. Her knowledge and expertise certainly attributed to such a pain free process. The technician, Tim, was there from start to finish and was great. He and the other guys finished the work in about 4 days and we barely even knew they were there. The work was done quickly, efficiently, and so far the cooling system has been fantastic. Had a new central unit installed by JD Heating and Air of Lexington. They completely screwed me over. So I called Royal! Best thing I ever did in my life. Avoid this company at all costs. We were loyal customers until a horrific experience. The customer service representative, Meaghan, was the rudest person I have ever spoken to. She tried to give me an appointment 2 weeks away, for an issue that has been reoccurring every year for the past 4 years, with our AC unit that Royal Air installed. When I indicated that we have a family with young children and waiting 2 weeks in 90 degrees is not an option for us, she scoffed. Meaghan refused to offer a solution to the problem, she refused to give me her manager's name, and she refused to let me know when a manager would call me to work through the problem. I received no follow-up from Meaghan. Moreover, Royal Air has provided only problems, no solutions. Their unit has broken every single year for four years. And clearly they don't have enough technicians to fix all the problems with their units in a timely manner during peak season. The best part is, their competitor came to our house 1 hour later, assessed the issue and fixed it immediately! Royal Air is beyond ridiculous. read more

We did and could not be more pleased. They were out 3 times each time incrementally trying additional solutions so as to control cost. Top notch service! I have had a service contract with Royal Air for almost eight years now. Every year I pay an annual fee, they service my furnace and change some filters. Yesterday, my furnace didn't turn on. I called Royal and they had someone there within two hours. He changed one part on the furnace which was cracked. No cost. He checked an hour or two later to see if the fix had totally resolved the problem - it hadn't. He was there from 4 until 7 working to see if he could find and fix the problem. He left that night with a clear plan to get started in the morning with an additional part. He fixed the additional part this morning, double checked some of the rest of the parts, and verified that there was no carbon monoxide. The parts probably cost about $700. He was there for four or five hours, on short notice. Total cost to me? Not a penny. It's all covered under my plan. My 20 year old furnace will need to be replaced soon and I will definitely be going with Royal. They made a tough situation so much better with fast service, clear communication, and going above and beyond in living up to their service commitments! read more

This company marks up the replacement parts astronomically high. Beware. What should have only cost about $50/60 dollars in parts, they charged $470. Service call was $90 (that, I am ok with). I will never recommend this company going forward. IF you do use them and they tell you they need to replace the part - get the part name and simply google it to better inform you of their markup and the true cost. The actual service technician was very nice and professional but missed the appointment window. read more

In fairness, this is going back a couple years, and so I hoped they've improved. We used Royal Air because a co-worker absolutely raved about them. Not me. They really had trouble making it through traffic to get to us - on several occasions. Without question, traffic sucks. But that's not news. Schedule differently, or don't take the job if you can't do it. It seemed like a rush job. Their electrician wired one of the units incorrectly and it blew out a fuse on the unit (rather than starting a fire, phew!). Also, their charges for the "pads" or bases for the outdoor units were basically heavy-duty plastic. Non-reactive I suppose, but a rip-off for what they charged and sure as heck not a concrete pad. The corker: the total price they charged, I've come to learn, was high compared to others. A LOT of money. So, ultimately, did the job get done? Absolutely. Would I recommend them? August 2013 UPDATE: Two weeks after my bad experience (see below), I got a call from the owner of Royal Air. He heard about what happened with the Royal Air technician regarding my broken AC, and he cancelled the charge for the service visit and the freon. He was very polite and apologetic about my experience, and pledged that Royal Air would do better in the future. I give him credit for being fair and doing right by me, under the circumstances. July 2013 Royal Air bombed out with us. Our AC unit has been struggling through an awful heat wave, so I called for an appointment. I was told we could get one the next afternoon, just wait for a call the next morning to confirm. The next morning, somebody called and said, no of course we couldn't have an appointment that afternoon, what were we thinking? (Bad sign there, but I was desperate.) So the day after that we got an appointment, a window from 3-5pm. I called at 3:30 to check on status, was told the technician was delayed at another job. At 5, I received a call, saying the technician was further delayed. The technician showed up just before 6pm, and checked the AC unit. He was in a big hurry, ran up and down the stairs, wouldn't tell me what was going on despite my asking. Finally he said he was done, and that he'd added a pound of refrigerant coolant (freon?). I asked whether that was all that was needed, he said that was it. He charged $89.99 just to show up, plus $92 for the coolant, plus tax. He assured me that the temperature should start dropping within a few hours, and told me to call back if it didn't. Two and a half hours later, it is still 79 degrees downstairs, and 82 degrees upstairs. It is 84 degrees outside (sun has just gone down), so clearly the AC unit is still not working right. I called back, talked to the guy who came to my place, and he said that was all he could do. When I asked him if he had fully inspected the unit to see if there was anything else not working, he said that he hadn't done a maintenance check, that that's not what he was called out for, all he did was add freon, nothing more. He was belligerent and defensive, and I was pretty annoyed. It's hot as heck in here, and I am out almost $200. Here's the kicker: I just called another service provider who says they can be out TOMORROW and who charges only $30 to show up, plus $75 per hour - !! Its pretty clear that Royal Air has ripped me off. And this is after years of business they have gotten changing filters at my condo complex. I am advising our trustees to sever our work contract with them. I would advise you to avoid Royal Air, and avoid being ripped off as I have been. read more

I always go to Yelp for reviews before I hire someone to do work for us. After calling a few companies in the area, Royal Air was by far the best choice for us for a couple of reasons. First, they had the most competitive price by far. Other companies told me that our job would be "tricky" and one even said we couldn't hide the pipes in the walls. Royal air said the job would be very straightforward and hiding the pipes inside would be easy. And it was!! They were the most professional and honest company I found on our search for an ductless air conditioning installer. The job was complete in just one day and we are very happy. Their high standards for customer service and honesty is hard to come by these days. I will definitely use them again when we put a/c on our 1st floor and I have referred them to many of my friends. read more

Royal Air fixed my venting system by installing two new damper units. They arrived on time, were polite and professional, and gave me a discount on the second damper unit. About a month later I asked them to visit to see if a whistling sound could be fixed. The service guy,Jamie, found the cause of the problem and went the extra mile for me. He made a slight adjustment and made sure I was okay with the results, offering to reverse it if I was not satisfied. I called Royal Air Systems to take a look at my heating and cooling system; the system was not running properly, there were issues with the zones and I needed someone to fix it. The first time I called to set up an appointment was in early June. Appointment 1: The first technician who came out was extremely late, and had no idea what was wrong. After several hours he decided to call it quits and told me a "senior technician" would need to come look at the system (I was asked to pay the service/diagnostic fee). Appointment 2: This senior technician came out and looked the system over and said it was the motors that needed to be replaced. Appointment 3: This was supposed to be the replacement of the motors; however, the technician did not bring the motors, instead he reiterated everything the Senior technician had said to me at Appointment 2, which was a complete waste of time. Appointment 4: This was supposed to be the appointment where someone came out to change the motors, which was deemed to be the problem. (NOTE: Between appointment 3 and 4 were 3 full weeks to order the part). On the day of this appointment, the technician was extremely late so I called the office. The office told me that they didn't have the parts, and it would be pointless to send someone out. How did they not have the part, when they had 3 weeks to order it????!!! Appointment 5: Another technician came out to change out the motors, but come to find out the motors were working. It was something else that was the problem; the entire damper system was not opening and closing, as it should. How did technician 1 and senior technician 2 not discover this on their first 3 visits? Needless to say the problem was not fixed. I received a phone call from the, the owner, it may have been his voice, but he was rude on the phone and told me that his men could not fix the dampers, it was too complicated and I should contact the people who installed it. IF I KNEW WHO INSTALLED IT, I WOULD HAVE CONTACTED THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE! He said he would call me the following week to see what could be done, but never did. This is a company that is supposed to fix these types of problems, this one was a simple diagnosis and fix. How do I know? I called another company; they came out, did a full diagnostic (I had to pay another diagnostic fee), and then fixed the problem in 2 days TOTAL not 2 months. Meanwhile, Royal Air systems never called me back and never once apologized for the inconvenience (that was 5 days off from work). I would not recommend this company, they took my money and ran... I would give less than 1 star if I could. read more
