He gave suggestions when asked, make sure to check on us, and make the experience even better. Our whole table got the restaurant version of an espresso martini and holy cow. It was incredible. Almost everybody at the table got seconds. The site also gave us champagne in celebration, which was super tasty and super nice The food was incredible. Holy cow incredible. I vegetarian appreciated that they are allowed the menu to reflect an item without meat and then a second That includes it. An absolutely exceptional dining experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like honored guests -- attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about every dish, and genuinely warm in a way that's increasingly rare. Located downtown on 2nd, they have a large room upstairs that you can reserve for parties like ours. Passed appetizers and a serve yourself buffet were pretty reasonable, our own bar & server, and they didn't mind the noise. Good for a large party. Shrimp cocktail and the sliced skirt steaks and fries were favorites of folks, and the passed salmon appetizers were more favored than the goat cheese pastry snacks. They did run out of utensils, though, in the main course and at dessert. So had to improvise... crab cakes were good finger food, the asparagus not so much. read more

My fiancé and I went here to try their happy hour menu, which had great prices and options to choose from! It's 4-6 Monday through Friday. I didn't get photos of the food due to eating it so fast, but we split the short rib sliders which comes with 2 ($7) and the fries ($6) and really enjoyed both, especially the sliders!! I will absolutely be back for those. We ended up also splitting an entree and got the salmon which was really good, however as a heads up it doesn't come with any sides. I really loveddd the ambiance here - it felt so cozy and upscale at the same time. My only qualm is that our server was a bit pushy making my fiancé and I feel like we needed to keep ordering. Wanted to celebrate my 58th birthday a month early before my son heads back to the West Coast. My family has made it a tradition to always choose a French restaurant for my birthday since it's my favorite cuisine. The dark interior decor fits with the Old City Philadelphia era. The booths even have hooks for your jackets/coats. Here is what we ordered... Appetizers: - Escargots (love the presentation, the snails were taken out of its shell. I wanted to drink the entire little pot of sauce) - Chicken Liver Mousse (creamy & divine) Entrees: - Rabbit Fricassee - Roasted Chicken (that jus de poulet!!!) - Seared Salmon Everything was served hot straight out of the kitchen on gorgeous plates. Even the chicken breast remained juicy. My son and I had the Pretty in Pink mocktail. OMG, it was sooo darn yummylicious. Every sip was divine. They serve a brunch menu on the weekends. Had a great solo dinner here at the bar! This place is COZY. Beautiful. Warm. Other-worldly. Nearly Parisian but you're in Olde City Philadelphia. The Left Bank on 2 Street. French music on the speakers but it isn't annoying. Classy. I loved reading my book here. I had a very delicious Bordeaux that was perfect. Oysters were yummy but maybe not as fresh as some other places. Burger with foie gras was one of my favorite things ever. Foie gras on a burger reminded me of like putting brie or camembert on a burger, really really cool! A very exciting thing to eat. Surprised that it wasn't crowded on a beautiful summer weekend night. Vintage decor, cute bar area, if you get a seat next to the door it's basically outdoor seating. Apps were just okay, but main dishes were pretty good. The chicken liver mousse could be a bit richer; the escargot was disappointing- the texture was a bit mushy and the sauce was oily and bland; the steak tartare was refreshing, but could have more flavor. The roasted chicken was all our favorite- surprisingly juicy and crispy skin, with rich flavorful juz, and paired with thick hash, just perfect! The trout was also great- cooked to perfect temperature with crispy skin, delightful sauce, paired with green beans and toasted almonds. The crab cakes were not so much, thin and flat, not the lump crab you would want, and browned a bit much to make it even drier. The napoleon dessert was filled with goat cheese (which is a novel idea), a bit too heavy goat cheese flavor, but glad it was not overly sweet. Disappointing. After 1+ years we returned to Royal Boucherie for Sunday brunch. We had always enjoyed their Smoked Salmon Florentine and were looking forward to it. Picture of the dish we enjoyed is in the gallery showing a generous amount of salmon even visible:). Unfortunately, what we were served today was not remotely comparable to it. Today we had to look for a very small, thin slice of salmon (not even close to the amount of salmon seen on the yelp picture) sitting on soggy spinach. Couldn't really taste the salmon. The ambiance on the rooftop was pleasant. That was the only good thing about the bar and food. We ordered a Chacuterie platter. The strawberries--three tiny pieces were overripe. They cut the grapes in half!!!! Why not just serve 6 whole grapes??? Ths platter seemed cheap. It came with only 4 small slices of bread: not nearly enough for all the cheese. And there was honey and raspberry sauce gooping all over the plate. Why not put it in small bowls so you canhave it on your cheese, if you choose to. We had no choice. Starting with the really good, 2 of the types of oysters were excellent while the other type wasn't very memorable (can't remember the names). The cheese board was very good with some creative and tasty items included. I ordered the Boucherie Burger and while I've enjoyed foie gras on other occasions, this burger wasn't my favorite and I'd blame it on the foie gras. The escargot was also a little underwhelming. There are definitely some gems on the menu and I would definitely go back to figure out what all they are! read more

Great bistro vibe. Had west coast oysters as an app--beautifully presented and yummy. Next tried the tilefish, never had before, wanted the crab cakes but they were sold out. It was served in a coupe bowl with brothy veggies, eggplant and tomatoes. It was crispy and perfect. Dessert was a raspberry Napoleon--perfect ending to a perfect meal. I will be back asap read more

I love this place but only giving them a 3 star because the duck was subpar. They put it in a frying pan and flipped it a couple times. Hard to chew and not like their usual. The oyster selection was great and the Canadian oysters are really good and clean. They never let me down with the oysters. The duck I had it a few times and never bad. Maybe they changed the chef. I'll change my review if it's better next time because I do like the place. read more

I loved having dinner here. There is so much charm and character in this bar - it's like stepping back in time. Different relics and photos that bring you through the history of Old City...it's a perfect place setting for a rich and hearty meal. Dim lighting, dark wood booths, a bar that runs half the restaurant, it's the whole nine. Not to mention, they have a gorgeous green-house setting upstairs with additional seating. Really enjoyed our server - he was helpful with recommendations and portioning. Striked good conversation with us, and was timely throughout the dinner. One thing that they seem to have a pretty well-renowned reputation for is their burger. The style and toppings of the burger changes every so often, but the execution is consistent. Right now, it is topped with foie gras, brie, and an onion confiture. I personally love burgers like this, where the foie gras adds that buttery/rich finish and the brie/onion add a sharp bite along with it. It wasn't a messy burger either, which is always appreciated. We also had their parisian gnocchi, which was probably one of the best gnocchi dishes we've had in awhile. The sage brown butter and pistachios complimented each other, but nothing in the mix was overpowering in flavor. Nutty and creamy bites, and the gnocchi was finished a bit more firm and crunchy. Very, very good! They offer a fantastic variety of oysters, and you have to try either their charcuterie board or cheese plate. While we enjoyed our meals, one downside to the menu was the lack of vegetarian entrees or apps. Beyond the pasta and a couple of small plates (onion soup or tomato & goat cheese tart) there really wasn't anything else to choose from. Their drink menu was extensive, and I recognize this is a very biased opinion only having tried one drink, but their dirty martini was just "ok." All that said, this spot is certainly a staple in the city and represents what a true weekend meal/experience should look like in Old City. Would definitely go back. read more

I have been curious to try the food and finally was able to get my friends together to try. I really have no complaints. We tried all the oyster varieties. We ordered every protein from snails, scallops, duck, fish, to beef. Okay, I lied. The only thing i could care less is the one with bone marrow - it just wasn't hitting it. Too blend. Updating because I came back and the Cheeseboard no longer has Honeycomb . I came by a couple weeks ago mid January and the service was good, love the dim ambiance in the main first floor room. Has an old time sensual type of vibe. Both the burger and oysters I had were good but both just a bit too salty. The oysters taste just like the atlantic ocean . We came here to celebrate a milestone birthday and the entire front of house really took care of us. We got the seafood tower platter, with some of the freshest, tastiest oysters I've ever had. I was here for dinner and drinks on Bastille Day so there were specials added to the menu. We started with the steak tartare, oysters on the half shell, and duck rillette. All 3 were great, and definitely eat the salad with the tartare, but the oysters were the best. The cucumber and champagne gélee gave them such a light flavor and different texture. The duck confit was tender and branzino cooked perfectly. There was some confusion over menu ingredients and service was a little slow in the beginning when it wasn't as busy but I like that we weren't rushed. The space is nice, not too big, dim in the back area, nice date night spot. The bathrooms are upstairs and when you get to the top of the stairs, there is outdoor seating to the left, nice greenery. There's a private dining space up there too. When you head back down you notice the giant mirror over the stairs, love it. read more

This is a great happy hour spot. There is outdoor seating out front, dog friendly. The inside is also very big and has a very ambience (to me). There is also an outdoor ish area on the second floor. I went with two friends at 5pm on a sunny Friday and we sat no wait. We ordered everything in the haply hour menu food wise (2x oysters with the sparkling glass of wine). Everything was great. The restaurant decor is quite dark and bar/bistro feeling. The menu is interesting since it's kind of a mix of French and Italian although this restaurant is supposed to be a French bistro. I did enjoy the fact that they have an extensive cocktail and wine menu and also non-alcoholic drinks: I really enjoyed my Ginger Howard. The escargot were tender and delicious although they were a little gritty which was a bit off putting, but the salade Lyonnaise was amazing. The beignets were doughy but the filling sauces were delicious. Parking is available in a lot next door or a garage across the street. read more

I saw a play with my friend at The Arden on Saturday night and we wanted drinks after. We decided to give Royal Boucherie a shot even though my last experience here, shortly after restaurants started trickling to open, was not very good. I love a redemption story, and this is one! I still remember how hard it was for restaurants to recover during that pandemic year as people started making their way back in. I was sad about my experience at this place back then because this, in my mind, was a magical Philly scene. Dark wood, glowy tables, long bar... like a scene out of a movie. We walked in on Saturday night and I felt that magic. But more importantly, I tasted it too. We ordered a bar snack... large charcuterie.. and it was brimming with pork pate, olives, apples, grapes, prosciutto, spreads and so much more. The drinks were so on point and it was such a lovely place to drink cocktails after seeing a play in the city and having a night that made me so glad I live in this good place called, Philadelphia.
