I love these little pop up shops that Phoenix has. I'm always looking for new coffee houses etc and so I was pleasantly surprised to see this location while waiting for my daughter to get off work so we could get dinner. Cute outdoor seating and a life size chess game that you could play while drinking your coffee or tea. Great coffee flavor and service was wonderful. I will say I do love the location off 7th st more for their brighter colors and indoor seating. Again, great coffee though which is what I was looking for. Will definitely come back and try something new next time I'm in the area. read more

Unbelievable. The girls working today did not even acknowledge us. Out of chai - came from her frowned face and no other sentiments. We would have chose something else if her or her coworker would even acknowledge us. My boyfriend pulled me away - as as he did not want to support such a poorly run establishment. The barista, not sure I should call him that, made one of the worst coffees I've ever had. I just wanted an 8oz latte, the smallest size they have is a 12oz so went with that (never a good sign). So excited to have another Royal back in my life! I worked in downtown Phoenix before, and I was sad to see Royal leave back in the day. I never made it to Royal at the Market - sadly I reverted back to corporate America coffee after Royal left downtown. Luckily, Biltmore Fashion Park has been really pushing the opening of this coffee bar at the Red Door spa. After waiting for it to open, I finally went down there today. Sure, they are just opening, so there's some kinks. Today they didn't have a ton of syrup selections, including my favorite almond rocca. However, they're getting them all in very soon! AND they offer almond milk - how awesome! They've got three benches inside too. Although it's pretty small, and awkwardly has an elevator leading up to the Red Door spa, I think it's a pretty cool space. Can't wait till they get up and running and bring some decent coffee to the Biltmore. Great hours too - open early! ***If you've never had Royal before, please go try it.*** I think their lattes have a very unique flavor, something I haven't found in any other coffee joint. I can't believe I didn't drive to the Market location before this - but now I have something closer! Some tips - park by the Capital Grill and the big red door (duh). Luckily they have a Royal at the Biltmore sign on the window, or else I might have missed it. It'd be awesome to nab a 20 minute spot outside Mojo Yogurt too. I love my Royal latte. There is no denying it, no way around it. The space is exquisite... mint green with wood accent and polished silver. While the look is similar, it is also a different vibe with unique coffee cups from Alessi (store inside Biltmore as well), a quieter tone (nice escape from the stuffiness that Biltmore imposes at times) and relaxing music accented with smooth espresso and warm oatmeal. For the last 2 weekends in a row there has been a sign up that say be right back and last week it was 40 minutes before they came back today there is an event / live music in the grass right in front of the place and same thing, sign says be right back and she never comes back. While wandering the Union, my husband and I decided to grab some much needed caffeine. While there is no official menu, they make the normal variety of hot and cold coffee drinks - espresso, lattes, cold brew, etc. I ordered two iced vanilla lattes in the 16oz size. The barista, I wish I remembered her name, was extremely friendly, helpful, and kind. While she made the drinks, she chatted with me and was a lot more interactive than some baristas. The shop is rather small - barely enough room for two people behind the bar. This a huge positive in my book. Not only can you see everything - from the fridge to the espresso machine, but you can watch your drink being crafted right in front of you. Plus, with a smaller space, things can be kept simple and efficient. To top things off, my order was under $8. My husband was super impressed because normally I'm shelling out $10 or more for two drinks. When our drinks were ready, it was love at first sip. They were really good! They were sweet but not too sweet. The espresso flavor was there and it was smooth. My husband said it was the best latte he has had in a while. I've been here twice this week and I really enjoyed the coffee. However I don't think I'll be back. The customer service was pretty bad. The two baristas were both young girls who were rude and short with us and not helpful in the slightest bit. On the second day I went I had asked about the cookies and the flavors and had to ask the girl four times because she wasn't looking at me and barely spoke at an audible legal. It's was around 11:30am-ish so the it wasn't busy at all to were I wouldn't be able to hear her. Both girls made it seem like a huge inconvenience to order coffee and ask a question. Came here after dinner to see if I could grab something sweet, since Karen and I decided to skip on dessert at Christopher's Crush. Perhaps a mocha and a pastry? Karen said she was skipping on coffee since she already had a Flat White at a Scottsdale coffee shop this morning- one of the worst cups of coffee she's had. I said, well if Royal offered Flat Whites, then you may want to try its version. Barista heard of Karen's FW woes and stated he'd lived in Australia for twelve years, so he knows how to make proper FWs. We both mentioned how our first FWs were from Starbucks (and turns out we both do not care for SBUX's version, either), and he said that with SBUX's cup sizings (8, 12, 16 oz), it doesn't make FWs properly. FWs should only be served in 6 oz. for proper espresso/microfoam ratio. She relented to try one made with almond milk, since soy milk would produce, according to the barista, a "clumpier" foam. I couldn't locate "mocha" in the posted menu and decided I'd try a FW with whole milk when I'd overheard the barista telling Karen that he sells more hot chocolates than coffee as the night progresses. Coffee spot in the middle of the Biltmore Shopping Center. Nice area to relax and take in a the nice Spring breeze, or night breeze in the summer. Overall the quality of the coffee was good, they roast their own beans! I created my own drink, Honey Lavender White Chocolate Latte. It was really good and not too sweet. read more

I've been here three times now when I was cold walking around the mall. Each time my coffee was just not good. I ordered different kids of coffee drinks thinking maybe that is the problem but it wasn't. This last time it just tasted almost burnt. If I were to base my star rating on the quality of coffee alone and the service, i would give this place 5-stars without question. What really put a sour taste in my mouth was that I went to the shop and ordered a medium hazelnut latte with soy. A medium latte I think was priced (according to their menu list) at around $3.75 I believe. Now I don't know what happened between adding hazelnut syrup and adding soy milk as a substitute but once everything was said and done my order came to $9.77. I was shocked and added a $1 tip because I just feel obligated to always do so. So for one medium hazelnut latte with soy my order came to $10.77 with tip. I have lived in California and have paid $3 less for a medium hazelnut latte with soy than I paid here. For same if not better quality coffee and service. I feel like it's important to note that no where on their menu list did they cost out milk substitute add-ins or flavored syrup add ins. If I had known how much each item costs I probably would have just gone with a standard latte. 1-Star for price gouging. read more

This is a hidden gem. This is a cute little coffee shop is located at Biltmore, with a cute outdoor courtyard that I can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. The mochas are my favorite, but I enjoy the seasonal lattes. The baristas are always friendly and the mochas are great! My Dad and I meet there weekly for a chat and a coffee. We used to go after Sunday yoga and continued on even after they discontinued the yoga. It's a great little coffee shop to hang out at and feels safe during COVID times. read more

I tried the Royal Coffee Bar last winter and the coffee was smooth and rich, and warms you up on a chilly day. I tried an iced americano today with a splash of oat milk, and there was no ice in my iced drink. I mentioned it to the barista when she handed me the drink and she said it melted before she handed it to me. The temperature was like warm. I would go back for hot coffee/espresso drinks but will find colder iced drinks around town. read more

I used to love this place. I'm completely anti-Starbucks, so I relish finding these unique, artisan shops around the valley. On a hot day, there's nothing like an iced vanilla latte from Royal. Today, however, I was served the iced mocha with old, stale espresso. The "barista" was deep in conversation with a friend, so he couldn't care less. Even Starbucks brews their shots fresh. The first time I went to Royal was a couple of months ago. It is a cute little coffee shop in the Biltmore, between Ralph Lauren and Capital Grill. The decor is awesome and they have a couple of tables inside and outside. Funny thing is that my husband introduced me to Royal and he does not even drink coffee. I'm glad he did, because the coffee here is awesome. The cool thing is that they do not charge extra for soy milk. Most of the other coffee shops in Phoenix do. I always drink my coffee with soy in it. :) If you are in mid-town area, you should head over to Royal at the Biltmore. read more

I think Royal is my favorite coffee place in Phoenix. I REALLY like the coffee at Lux but it is always so damned crowded and the attitude of a lot of the clientele is so stifling sometimes that I find it difficult to even spend the time to wait in line to get my coffee to go. Royal on the other hand is very quiet and serene (it shares the entrance to Red Door Spa so I guess it kind of has to be serene-who wants to me shoved out of the way by an overzealous scenester while waiting for a coffee before their massage?) Anyway, the decor is open and airy, modern minimalist-it reminds me of a coffee joint you'd hit up in Zurich (or maybe somewhere in Germany). And it's QUIET....you kind of want to whisper or keep your voice down like you're in the library. So I love to come here and relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere with a good cup of joe. Their Espresso is nice and smooth so I can always count on a full bodied Americano to get me where I need to be. They also have some yummy treats available too. Love you, Royal!!!!!! read more

Disappointingly overrated. The service is lacking, the environment is not conducive to work, and the coffee is merely decent. Service: There were two employees when I came, neither of which communicated well. To be fair, it was the girl's first day, and was friendly and probably did the best she could. But the guy was unsmiling and muttered when he talked, making it difficult for me to understand what he eventually communicated about the wifi. Working: They stated that the wifi here is not available for customer use. They asked me to use a neighboring business's wifi, but it never permitted me even to load a single web page. It's also important to note that that the environment is another obstacle rather than something to be sought out: It's situated at the entrance of a business building, between the exterior door, a staircase, an elevator, and a closet. They've tried to decorate it like a hipster coffee bar, but functionally it's an echo chamber for human activity, Royal's machines, and the loud music they use to try to cover up the other noise. Coffee: Nothing to write home about. It functions, I suppose, so this place makes an effective alternative to Starbucks. But use it to replace your drive-through experience. If you actually need to sit down and work, your business belongs somewhere else. read more
