I have eaten at both locations (one off Ohio Blvd. and one off Margaret). I suggest going to the one off Ohio- they have a special dim sum menu that isn't offered at their other location, as well as several entrees that are for those looking for something other than the typical general tso's or garlic chicken. Off the dim sum menu, the sharkfin dumplings are fantastic! Try the stuffed eggplant too. The dipping sauce is delightful. My mom and I like to share a full order of the korean beef noodle soup. It's more noodle than soup, and it's definitely enough to share between two people, maybe even three. Great price, clean place, yummy food! OH, and I hear they carry bubble tea, which I have yet to order. I'm very excited, considering I don't know of any other place in Terre Haute that carries bubble tea. I wish I could have a good review for this restaurant. But unfortunately that isn't going to happen. I decided to go there today and use the Restaurant.com certificate deal that they have. If you don't know what that is, check it out. I have been using that website for years. Anyway. I purchased the certificate which gives you $10 off $20 meal purchase. They have a mobile app too. You just show the cashier the certificate on your phone, they write down the certificate number, you then mark it as used so they know it isn't going to be duplicated. Then they call it in to get credit. Its a simple process. I've used it at many restaurants all over. However, it appears that Royal Mandarin uses this to get you in to the restaurant and then say that they can't accept it, you need to print if off and bring it in on a piece of paper. Note: That was how the process worked like.....4+ years ago. How many people have printers? How many people if traveling carry their printer with them? It's obvious the mobile app is a much easier process. No one has required a printed certificate in years. So now I either leave their restaurant (which I should have done) or pay full price (which is what I did). Next, what to get? What is the Royal Mandarin Chicken? Is it like General Tso's? The cashier has to ask the cook. And they confirm, yes, its like that but with more vegetables. OK, I ordered that extra spicy with fried rice and crab rangoon. $10 and change. It comes out and the chicken looked awesome. I will give it to em on presentation. Their fried rice. The only difference between steamed and fried is the fried has egg in it. That's it. I don't call that fried rice. I call that rice with egg in it. It was pretty much flavorless. I try the chicken. 1. It is NOT like General Tso's whatsoever. Not even close. It is sort of soy sauce flavored I guess. Hardly any taste at all. So blah. 2. Not even a hint of heat. 3. No matter how much I ate, it never got better. It was just a huge plate of flavorless food. The only thing I can give them a positive review on was their crab rangoon. It was good. However, you get only 1, even with a full order meal..... Needless to say. I will not be returning to this restaurant. Ever. Go to 1st Wok next to Krogers on Wabash. It's cash only but the taste of their food is far superior to Royal Mandarin. And I bet the price would have been around $6 for the General Tso's dish. And it would possibly include a drink, which was extra here if you wanted that. If you have already stopped at the Meadows Shopping Center and are reading this review, just go down to MCL Cafeteria and eat there, you will be glad you did. read more

This review is for the Royal Mandarin at Southland Center at 7th and Margaret streets. There is seating at small booths, but I've only eaten there once. We get carry out and here are the reasons we get it often: Hot food that has not been sitting around or tastes reheated. We like spicy and have tried many of the spicy dishes and love them. The soups are good and egg rolls are tasty too. The fried rice does not look dark and extremely fried, but it is fresh and hasn't been sitting around waiting to be reheated so it has no oily/greasy taste. Mongolian chicken and beef, Mandarin beef, and orange chicken are our current favorites. All spicy but not overwhelmingly hot. Two thumbs up! This, like Los Tres Caminos, is in a strip mall, but is WORTH finding. There are two other locations now on the east and north sides of town. read more

Have always been a fan but the last 2 visits leave me looking for a new place. 2 weeks order had missing items found out after getting home, not worth not worth dinner getting cold and cost to go back. This week Kung Pao chicken had less chicken and based on past quantity we received a half order when ordered a full. If you order from here. You need to go in and pick it up. Make sure and get an itemized receipt. So you know what you are being charged for and how much. Several times that we have called they don't even answer the phone. Do not order for delivery. Delivery time was over an hour we are only about 10 blocks away from store. Our order was wrong we were overcharged and shorted food and food was cold We called and spent 15 minutes on the phone trying to explain the situation and customer support is horrible. We finally settled it but it was poorly handled. I like the food but hate the hassle. I will never order delivery again. I love the food. Dining in the restaurant is just ok, I don't love eating from styrofoam plates and the smallest plastic utensils ever. My arthritis makes chopsticks a challenge. But I eat here all the time! My favorite dishes are Singapore mei fun, veggie fried rice, and curry veggies. The menu is huge, there are so many things I still want to try but I'm sort of stuck on my reliable choices. My husband loves the beef noodle soup, which has such a lovely aroma and flavor. There are a lot of great reviews for Royal Mandarin already, so I just want to add one thing. There are two menus, so choose carefully. One menu has all of the Americanized Chinese food. I has all the usual sweet syrupy stuff. The other menu is the authentic Chinese menu. If you like the sugary American stuff, you may not like the things on the Chinese menu. If you like authentic Chinese food, you will. Once, when I ordered off both menus, they wrote my orders on separate tickets and gave them to separate cooks. The authentic stuff is cooked by a special person! I work with several people who moved from China to America in their early 20s. Easily the best Chinese food in Terre Haute. I didn't like Chinese food until I started coming here. I usually stick with the basics of general tso and my wife usually does the sweet and sour. I feel like this is the cleanest Chinese restaurant I have been too. The price is a little pricey but worth it. I have been to Chinese restaurants all over Michigan, Indiana and some in Florida. I would choose this place over all if those. Highly recommend. Three locations in town makes it even better. read more

Unsanitary Experience . . . Last time i visited TH, I opted to try the string bean and garlic sauce to go, which is mostly sauce. I got my food in a vertical brown grocery sack, carried it vertically to the car, and noticed my food was leaking out of the bottom of the sack. Gross! So I went back, and instead of offering to make my food again, the cook in back insisted it was sanitary to scrape my food out of the bottom of the sack that wasn't waterproof, and put it into another container. I had to argue with her for about 15 minutes to get my money back, which was $11 for only veggies and noodles. I was a dietetics (nutrition) major at ISU, and took the Food Health and Safety Course there, and know for a fact that it is not sanitary to scrape food out of a leaking sack and put it into a new container, and serve to a customer. The cook of the restaurant should really know better. Side note: I did carry the sack vertically, which was supposed to be held horizontal. They did not tell me that i needed to hold it a certain way, and they changed the containers they used since the last time I lived in TH, 2 years ago. Regardless, vegetable and sauce dishes should be stored in containers that actually keep the food in the container in a To Go order. If the food would have spilled all over my nice car, I would be doing a lot more than just writing a nasty review. read more

My friend and I ate at Royal Mandarin at Meadows Shopping Center in Terre Haute, IN often and loved it UNTIL, my friend bit down on a small peddle. She was sooooo lucky she didn't break a tooth or swallow it. I took the small pebble up to the manager and placed it in his hand. He didn't even apologize or do anything. Guess it must be a normal event for the restaurant. My friend is now deceased due to a chronic illness.
