Best Thai in Ocala! This food actually has FLAVOR! They will spice it up as much or as little as you prefer. Our server Alex was cordial, kind and full of information. The portions were great. We had the dumplings to start. Omg, the amount of meat inside was wholly above average. We also had the coconut chicken soup, outstanding! I had the Yum Duck salad, probably the most impressive Yum salad I've had anywhere in the world. My husband got pork pad Thai which was also stellar, noodles cooked perfectly and the sauce not overly sweet. Overall, this is the most solid and authentic Thai we've had within a 25 mile radius. We stopped here for lunch today. It has a traditional decor so I liked that. We split several different items. Steamed dumplings which were our favorite item! Then spring rolls which were very fresh. Went here for lunch and I enjoyed it. I usually prefer the sauce of my pad seew to be a little stickier and caramelized with the noodles and I've had better Thai food but it's a really great spot for the price. It is so hard to review when the 2 people you were with loved their meal and yours was nothing you would go back for! One friend got the basil fried rice and a coconut soup, thought both were delicious, the other friend got a curry, loved it so much she was putting he fingers in the left over sauce and licking her fingers! Then there was mine! I ordered a chicken cashew, it was like having over poached chicken in dish water. no taste, everything over boiled and tasteless. Went here recently as we drove through town with my folks. Service was excellent. The owner, Josie, was super friendly as was our server, Angel. We had a couple of orders of Tom Kha soup (very tasty; could've used a little bit more veggies in there, but the broth was delicious). We also had some green curry dishes and and order of larb. A coworker and I went here based on the reviews. I ordered the crab rangoons as an appetizer. They were decent but overpriced (5 for $11 or $12). I ordered the chicken fried rice. When it arrived I was a little nervous because it didn't smell very appetizing. I had a couple of bites and it wasn't great so I asked for some soy sauce. We last patronized this Thai restaurant roughly 10 years ago. It was very good then and one of the few Thai restaurants in Ocala. There are now three or four Thai restaurants in Ocala, and Thai food is one of our Asian favorite. We were visiting here in Ocala again 10 years later and decided to give our old favorite another try. Happy to report it is still a very good place. They offer a lunch menu at a reduced price from their diner menu. Few people mention the lunch special menu. Lots of good lunch choices. The lunch menu includes chicken/rice soup and egg roll plus main dish for roughly $12. The main lunch courses were large and very tasty. The restaurant also seems to have undergone renovation of the interior which continues to be very nice. All in all, a great Thai lunch experience. !! We will be back before we leave town. read more

All the dishes were a bit sweeter than they should have been- or needed to be, and the Green curry was extra heavy on delicious coconut milk but WAY under on the actual green curry paste. Recommended by a friend, and even she was so disappointed that she could not eat her chicken Pad Thai as the 'taste was off'. My summer rolls were chunky vegetables and I could not find the shrimp. I was hoping the tempura Bangkok shrimp would redeem, but I was wrong. The shrimp were wrapped in a heavy dough wrapper and deep fried so much that the "crust" was burnt and the shrimp not to be recognized. A few veggies that did have a tempura coating were okay, yet the flavor suggested very old oil. I will not go back. read more

I ordered the drunken noodles seafood spice level medium , the Penang curry hot, Thai chicken, basil, medium. The flavors are spot on. I think my only gripe is I think the portions are a little small. But their price points are in line with their portions. Flavor is good meat and seafood is plentiful. Spice level, correct. I was down in the Ocala area a couple of nights ago on a fact finding mission, and as it was getting late I decided to grab a bite to eat down there instead of trucking my way back up to Gainesville. Walking in, I was greeted and quickly seated in one of the booths. However, I found those to be uncomfortable for me, so I moved over to a table with chairs instead. No issues on the move... they weren't busy and I wasn't taking up any more space either way. Looking over the menu, I decided on the fresh rolls, tom yum soup, and the pad Thai. First up, however, was a nice small salad with peanut sauce drizzled on top, which I found quite lovely. Next up were the fresh rolls, which were quite good. They came with two kinds of sauce, peanut and tamarind. I certainly prefer the peanut sauce. After the rolls came the tom yum soup. Now, I love tom yum soup. It has this wonderful kick to it that for some people actually makes them go a bit loopy. It doesn't do this to me, but I still love it. This particular one they use a bit more fish sauce in the soup than I am accustomed to, so it was a bit different. Not bad, mind you... just different. My only issue at all with the soup is that they did not provide a proper soup spoon, just a regular spoon with the silverware. Personally I love the Thai style soup spoons when eating soup... any soup. Finally came the pad Thai. This is a good pad Thai... the noodles aren't gummy and were individual entities, the sauce was beautiful, and there was just the right amount of meat on the plate. Fish sauce was used in the dish, which again I found to be a bit different. Not bad, just different. The chef appears to really like using fish sauce in the various dishes. It wasn't very spicy, and I had to ask for chili sauce to give it some pep. It really isn't surprising that the food here is not all that spicy... the residents of Ocala are predominantly retirees who seem to think that black pepper is too spicy, so I understand why these kinds of dishes aren't that strong. All in all, if you are looking for a place to eat in Ocala, Royal Orchid Thai is a good place to go. read more

Lovely little find thanks to Yelp! I have driven by this strip mall on countless occasions and have never noticed a teeny tiny restaurant quietly tucked away in between the mass stores. Thank you Yelpers! So sweet and so cute with excellent food! The decor definitely transports you to Thailand as do all the lovely servers. Our waitress was beyond kind and accommodating. She gladly got the chef to make our special order of raw vegetarian spring rolls and they were some of the best we have ever had! We each tried a soup - one a coconut lemongrass base and the other a sweet and sour tofu. Both were excellent and fresh. We also tried a fresh vegetable appetizer with the most delectable peanut sauce that was addictive and a mouth watering vegetable noodle dish. For dessert, we wanted the sticky rice with mango but sadly the waitress explained to us mango was out of season so it was not currently on the menu. Can not wait to return and try more dishes. They also have a macrobiotic section available. Oh, they had a very nice wine selection by the glass unlike most Thai restaurants who offer general, lower quality options. I particularly like the Kendall Jackson chardonnay as a staple and I was pleasantly surprised to see they had it on their wine list. Highly recommend this sweet little place. I visited on a Sunday evening and was seated promptly. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the intricate china gives me the impression the owner cares. My seafood pad Thai was excellent, noodles where al dente, the sauce flavorful, maybe on the sweet side. The squid was tender but could have had more flavor, the scallops cooked just right and the shrimp very tasty and chewy with nice texture - clearly they were fresh. I lived in Thailand for two years, and this restaurant is authentic and delicious! Their north-eastern Thai food is what I tried (papaya salad and yum woonsen salad), and it was absolutely delicious. As newcomers to Ocala, we have tried numerous restaurants with many disappointments. Last night we ventured to Royal Orchid. We did not have high hopes when we arrived. It is situated in an old strip mall right on Highway 200 that has seen better days. WOW were we pleasantly surprised. The decor inside is unique, inviting, and immaculate. I had the "sizzling seafood" and my wife had the nightly special, soft shelled crab with shrimp. Mine consisted of a huge lobster tail, calamari, shrimp and vegetables in a ginger chili sauce. It was outstanding. The soft shelled crab was cooked perfectly. We were both shocked at the quality of the meal. The owner, Josie, told us that the restaurant has been there 30 (!) years. We ordered their dumplings and they were really good and made from scratch. The Shrimp Miso Soup was also really good and had a nice amount of fresh garlic and veggies in it. The Chicken & rice soup that came with our meals were a bit bland compared to the Shrimp Miso. The Seafood Pad Thai was good, except for the squid was extremely over cooked and I had to pull it all out. There was also a red colored sauce that was already mixed into the dish that I'm not used to getting at other places but it was still good. Nothing we ordered, by any means, was spicy. All in all it wasn't bad and I'll probably go back again, but only to try something different. And I almost forgot, the donut things we got at the end of our meals were DELICIOUS!! read more
