For decades, this has been a mandatory stop on my monthly Chapel Street circuit. I hit up Alternate Universe for my comics first, then walk the 500 feet over to Tandoor to handle my business. This place has seen many a first date of mine over the years; it's a litmus test for me if you don't like Indian food, you won't like me. The atmosphere is classic and grounded, but the food has the kind of soul and precision I've come to expect from the elite NYC spots like Gandhi Cafe. Right away, I noticed that my order didn't come with onion chutney; just the brown sauce and green sauce. IMO they should have that on hand since it's a staple condiment at Indian restaurants. I tried the samosas first and was very impressed! Not only were they delicious, they weren't greasy or heavy at all; These might be my favorite samosas ever and also the most healthy! Then I tried the channa masala and noticed that they made it with dairy cream. I called them and they said they can make it without cream if you ask, so I'll do that next time. It tasted average, as did the rice. I originally gave Indian Hot Breads a 4 and that's the same score I'm using now. Seems like a pretty good place and I'm planning to go back and try other dishes, but I really think they need to bring back the haka noodles and onion chutney.

Hours posted for lunch were until 3:00, however upon arriving there was a sign on the door saying they stop serving lunch at either 2:30 or 2:45 (don't remember as again this was mid October). He forgot to bring the cucumber app until we were done with the entree and we didn't realize it was a dip. We ended up taking that home.
