You can also get takeout or delivery, so if you're looking for a healthier fast(ish) food, this is a great location to consider. I don't know why this Vietnamese restaurant serves burgers, fries, and fried chicken. Probably to appeal to people who don't feel like going to the Whataburger/Wendy's about a mile up the beltway. Good ol fashioned local Vietnamese joint serving the basics here. It's not at the NW Mall, if you search by name it shows NW Mall but if you search for viet it shows it's on gessner. It's indeed on Gessner road @ Philippine. I don't think the food or drinks will blow anyone's mind but I dig these small mom and pop shops. They even have a small snack rack that's cheaper than the gas station at the other end. Well Dec. 24,2023 my wife and I left the nail shop I stooped in and got me a mango and coconut smoothie from this place the service is good the ambiance is nice. But that's smoothie made me sick sick sick my wife and I stopped by Fiesta to pickup something's we needed the smoothie just didn't taste right it was like old dish water smell so I threw it away. After two visits to this nearby newly opened restaurant I am not impressed. The first visit was for a take out dinner that included an order of spring rolls ($3) and a chicken banh mi ($3.69). I liked the spring rolls as they were fresh and had a good taste. The banh mi bread seemed a little stale and was definitely not fresh. Since the bread is very important to me this was disappointing. I decided before writing a review that I would return to give them another chance. About a week later I dined in for dinner and ordered the steamed rice with charbroiled sliced beef for $7.25. When the meal came out about 10 minutes later I immediately noticed that some of the beef was cool in temperature. I asked that it be returned and could hear it being placed in a microwave for reheating and then the microwave's bell announcing its finish. The food was returned to me in about 3 minutes and was hot. However, most of the meat was chewy. One of my last bites had some bone cartilage in it adding that crunchy sound. I finished the meal but left disappointed. I must admit that prices here are reasonable and the counter service was friendly however neither meal warranted a 3 in my mind. I love how it's right next to my favorite nail salon so I just pop right in get me some Bobatea or ice Vietnamese coffee then head to get my nails done. Paid $6 for a banh mi with bread so hard that my jaw was sore the next from chewing on GOD. the beef was very greasy and was definitely just reheated. This review is probably long overdue. The debate went like this, there's nothing left at that mall, Hanh says, I'm like no they still have stores and I'm sure the food court is still open. It's because we drive along the other side so there are never any cars. Well one evening, Hanh, was craving Bubble Tea and I was not about to drive to Bellaire during rush hour, so I looked up on yelp and it brought me to Royal Tea Cafe, it said it was located inside of NW Mall, so sure enough I drove around to the side with all of the cars parked, and indeed the mall is still alive. It is not flourishing but it's still kicking. This place is ran by a very nice couple. They are very prompt with the orders. I usually just get the milk tea with tapioca, but recently, I gave them a try with their Banh Mi (Sandwiches), and surprisingly it was solid. I like their bread better than the surrounding vietnamese options. They could fill the meat up a little bit more, but the flavors are there. Out of the three meats, beef, pork, and chicken, the chicken ended up being the best. I will continue supporting this family owned business. read more

This cafe is located in the food court of the slowly dying Northwest Mall. The people here are friendly. There is a nice selection of "fresh" fruit you can get your tapioca placed in. Yuck to those places that use only corn syrup and/or powder wth? Favorite flavors: Vietnamese Coffee, mango, watermelon, cantalupe, the list goes on. Prices are very reasonable. I believe I paid close to $4 for my large Cantalupe with tapioca. They serve food here but I forgot what exactly is on the menu, I would imagine the Banh Mi and neighboring staples. read more

This place just opened up next to my go to nail salon so I thought I would give them a try. My twins were disappointed they didn't have Pho here so they settled for egg rolls. I ordered the Thai tea Tapioca and BBQ pork with egg roll vermicelli. This all totaled to be about $17 bucks. The service was ok. The two different guys who brought our order out forgot a straw for my drink and utensils for my food. The staff were friendly though. Thai tea 5/5. The sweetness was just right. The boba was not too chewy or hard. Egg rolls 3/5. They were over cooked. They actually tasted almost burnt. The filling lacked ingredients there was hardly any pork or shredded carrots, black fungus inside. I've been told I make pretty darn awesome home made Vietnamese egg rolls. Fish sauce 3/5. It wasn't clear in color and did not have good flavor. Maybe needed a little more sweetness and less regular salt with added fish sauce. BBQ pork Vermicelli with egg roll 3/5. The noodles and veggies were fresh. The pork however was not. It looked and tasted like it was reheated in the microwave more than once. The texture was hard and the meat was dry. The marinade on the meat was not tasty. I think I would just come back for the drinks here in the future. Because I did enjoy the Thai tea with boba I ordered. Aside from the typical milk teas or fruit teas, we especially enjoyed the basil seed drink, which I don't see often outside of Chinatown. Cute place near my kids school- never tried until today. It's in a quiet little neighborhood plaza so not too noticeable. We went in to check it out. It's small Teahouse that also sells Vietnamese food like rice, soup and noodle dishes + Traditional banh mi sandwiches. We had food and drinks. The food is made fresh- great flavors that are not Americanized (thankfully) . However I didn't care for their teas. They were very sugary and they had more syrups in them - I wouldn't go for the tea. Buuuut I am a total Tea snob. I will definitely go back for the food. If you aren't a fan of boba/tapioca, but still like some of the chewy-ness... ask for 'half of what you usually serve' or 'light boba'. Also, try to go for more exotic flavors, the regular strawberry or banana milk teas are so-so. Honeydew milk tea is my favorite! Update July 20, 2016 Been going to them for a year. They offer a clean and simple dining area. The drink and food menus are on the wall. The menu features your basic Viet cafe staples: both spring and fried egg rolls, meat and rice, meat and vermicelli, and banh mi. The drink menu is comprised of about 64 drink options. We ordered 3 pork banh mi with eggs and avocado. The bread was soft and warm and almost didn't fit in the basket it came in. The sandwich wasn't overly stuffed. The egg was runny. The avocado was fresh. The pork was well seasoned. Fyi,unlike most banh mi, they didn't have jalapenos. I didn't mind that. The drinks were pretty good. We ordered an iced Viet coffee, coconut milk tea, and avocado smoothie. The Viet coffee was strong and not overly sweet. Coconut milk tea had just enough flavor without hiding the tea flavor. The avocado smoothie was refreshing. The price is similar to prices in Bellaire. Unlike the previous review, we didn't receive a free drink with our order, but we will be back to try the rest of the menu. It's good having Royal Tea in the neighborhood instead of driving all the way to Bellaire for decent boba. read more

The best part of this place is that they have a huge boba menu. Everything from milk tea to slush! They are fast when you order, the egg rolls are delicious. The beef is always good. But usually I order the pork in my banh mi which is seasoned really well. My only complaint is the sandwiches are kinda skippy with their meat. I usually have to ask for extra. Having discovered it recently via the office grapevine [such is the power of word-of-mouth], I think they have a budding success on their hands. Inside the Northwest Mall food court, this boba tea and light lunch place is a wonderful and welcome addition to the area close to my office. The office grapevine worked this way: (1) one of the receptionists discovered it, (2) she shared it with the other two receptionists, (3) they told the medical assistants who were then asked about the source of the boba tea by our (4) doctors, who then were spied drinking one by our (5) eligibility manager. The manager was spotted with her own boba tea by (6) one of my department coworkers and this reminded her of the Tapioca Express that was near our old offices [good times, good times]. She told (7) me about it and we got in the car to check it out on a Tuesday. Upon our arrival at the food court, they have a nice panel board of their options: regular teas ($3 each), cream teas ($3.25 each), and coffee-based drinks ($3.50 each) are laid out. Tapioca sinkers are an added 50 cents. They also offer small bites: banh mi ($2.95 each), spring rolls ($3), vermicelli bun bowls ($4.99), and even a rotation of lunch combos. You can add avocado (50 cents) or a fried egg ($1) to your banh mi, also. We told the spunky friendly 30-something husband-and-wife team working the counter that we heard about this place from co-workers. Coworker had never had a banh mi so she tried out the bo banh mi along with her Thai tea; I abandoned my own drink option and went with a banh mi thit nuong to try it out. Both of our orders were a success - and the sandwich is accompanied by a small cup of what appears to be an excellent and addictive homemade Sriracha knockoff that is both spicy and sweet. I dream of this sauce. On our return to the office, another coworker (Little Philly) spied our items and loitered around as we tore into the sandwiches. He never had one but was intrigued by the concept. So, Little Philly asked me Wednesday (the next day) if I wanted to visit the place again - heck, yes. This time, we each had a chicken banh mi and he added an order of the spring rolls. On the way back, I discovered that Little Philly does not like seafood of any kind so the spring rolls with their shrimp were a poor choice for him - I ended up eating his order and telling him of how tasty they were with the shrimp, mint, vermicelli, and lettuce filling. To paraphrase Daniel Day Lewis' line from "There Will Be Blood": I eat your spring rolls! Eat it up! Slurp! The frenzy was still in effect when Little Philly and I visited Thursday. [This was my third day in a row; his second.] Little Philly added a fried egg to his banh mi and reported that the sandwich had geometrically improved. For the sake of preserving some decency, we held back from going again on Friday. But, we can easily and without shame return on Monday since its a new week. At least, that's the story I'm telling myself. As the summer temps return, it will be great to try their seasonal watermelon icy drink (nothing but fresh fruit and ice) with another fresh hot banh mi. * Yes, Little Philly exists and the name ties into his real-life background, complete with a slight Philly/South Jersey accent. Did I tell you I like all manner of accents? Yup, there's your lagniappe for the day. And, no, he is not related to Rocky Balboa; he's more Irish-American than Italian-American.
