I previously gave this 4+ stars after an excellent outing over a year ago. All of our food was excellent, well spiced during that outing over a year ago. Since then, they have gone off the rails! I had the Egg Noodle with calamari, three guests in my party had Spicy Eggplant, and Pad Thai Shrimp. 3 out of 4 of us DID NOT like the food this time! I was shocked and disappointed. I had been looking forward to a good Thai meal and I had braged to my friends about the quality of the food and they looked forward to the outing. The Egg Noodle with calamari was without flavor and the calamari was rubbery! The spicy eggplant was similarly without any real flavor. The Pad Thai again had no taste to the dish. The fried dumplings were nice and tasty. Unfortunately we are now back on the hunt for a good Thai food place in South West Florida. read more

We got carry out today and the lady on the phone was super helpful! Once we got there, the ladies that got our order together were so sweet. We don't eat Thai really ever because we are from out of state, but it was super delicious! My friend got chicken fried rice and it's the best fried rice we've ever eaten! This great little spot is worth driving the extra 5 minutes from Punta Gorda. It's small and very busy but they do take reservations. But heads up, they won't seat you until your entire group has arrived and they don't split the bill if you're a group. The food is very good. It's fun to go in a small group and share multiple items. Staff are great, reasonable prices. Some negative reviews complain about small servings and not enough meat. Remember this is a Thai restaurant so don't expect North American sized portions. We were a party of 8, ordered 8 entrees and there was a little leftover. I took one star off because we would have liked to be seated before the last 2 people in our group arrived (they were a few minutes late) so we could order a drink and be not blocking the congested entrance. I have been going to Royal Thai for many years. This is a special place for myself and my family, and we eat there regularly. June is an amazing person, a fantastic chef, and always makes me laugh. She makes your experience the best ever! The Drunken Noodles I feel are the best thing on the menu! My other favorites are: Paanang Curry, and Sizzling Chicken. I have tried other dishes when others order them, and they are all very very good. For anyone that lives in the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda area and have never driven a few extra miles East of town, you are missing out. It is definitely worth the travel. Love, love, love this place. This place has great Thai food. The Panang Curry with shrimp is always a great choice. We also had the spicy eggplant and the pineapple fried rice. This was a weekly favorite place for a very long time before the Covid-19's pandemic. Like everyone else it was closed for some time. Now it's open as take out only. We just had our first takeout yesterday since reopening. It cost almost $40 for two meals in a plastic takeout. When home of course we have to use our plates and serve ourselves. The food was awful and nothing like what it used to be. I can go to a Chinese takeout down the street and get twice the meal size at half the costs and it's always great. We won't be back. read more

Stumbled across this place while driving to Plant City, FL. We all know SWFL is not exactly diverse. Good authentic diverse food is hard to come by. This place has been around for 27 years for a reason. They are awesome! The Pad Thai was great. Would order spicy next time since I forget they usually make it for spice averse Americans. Wow! This place is the real deal!! My dad had mentioned wanting to go to this place for a while now and tonight we checked it out. Outstanding food! We started with the pork fried dumplings as a shared appetizer. They were crispy and light, and the pork filling was tender and piping hot. The dipping sauce was incredible! Not just some soy sauce with a few green onions thrown in, it was a very tasty mix of soy sauce and a type of vinegar (rice wine, perhaps?) with green onions and garlic. There may have even been a hint of fish sauce in it. Very tasty and not overly salty. Dad chose the spicy eggplant with mixed seafood (shrimp, scallops, mussels, and calimari) and I ordered chicken Pad Thai, which is how I judge any Thai place. The eggplant dish was great! The seafood was perfectly cooked, the eggplant was flavorful, and the brown sauce it was in was world's better than any brown sauce you're used to at your typical Chinese place. The Pad Thai was fantastic! The noodles were cooked perfectly -- just the right bite to them. The heat level was nice, although I think another time I'll ask for hotter. It was great to just order off the menu "as is", for checking the dish out. The owner came out into the dining room several times, talking with guests, greeting them, and asking things like "do you have enough rice?", "do you need anything else to drink?" The servers were also very attentive and helpful. We got there within a half hour of the time they open, and they were already quite full. It's easy to see why Royal Thai has so many positive reviews: they've earned them. And I'll be back!! read more

Everything we ordered was delicious from the chicken soup(doesn't smell like it taste), Pad Thai, Spicy Eggplant, to the dessert Crispy Banana. We did have an appetizer the Basil Mussels and we didn't care for it. The sauce it came in was tasty but the mussels were tasteless. Weird I know but the mussels did not absorb any of the favors from the sauce. After a 30 minute wait, we were greeted by friendly service and were accommodated very nicely by the host. The Thai iced tea I ordered was Fantastic. A perfect blend of cream and sugar in the Thai blend of black tea. We were offered a complementary soup for ordering main dishes which was a watermelon soup. It was tasty... the service was extremely fast and friendly. We got our soups almost immediately after we ordered. Me and my wife decided to share a pad Thai with chicken and a soy noodle entree. Big portions. The soy noodle was pretty good, but a bit salty for my liking. The pad Thai was a bit sour but still pretty good. Some of the most wonderful Thai food out there. It's location off of route 17 (middle of nowhere) is totally unsuspecting. All entrees come with a homemade soup (always something creative!) and have never had a bad meal here. Royal Thai has a good beer selection, flavorful appetizers, their soups are some of the best I've ever had (I recommend the Tom Kha with coconut and lemongrass broth), and all entrees are excellent, especially the mushroom and vegetable one. For dessert, we typically enjoy the Thai donuts. I highly recommend Royal Thai! read more

Royal Thai was a wonderful place to eat with family and friends. I went with the comfort food of Pad Thai with chicken and I have to say, I enjoyed it more at Royal Thai then the first time I tried it. I had a crispy wonton appetizer and the New Zealand mussels in basil sauce. They gave me a free cup of chicken and pasta soup to go with my meal! Our friends took us to their favoite Thai place in Punta Gorda, Royal Thai, since they knew we liked Thai. It was busy enough we had to wait for a table and it stayed busy the whole time we were there. Two of us had Thai Ice Tea, which is always good. OOur friend both ordered soup and their meals, so they both had two kinds of soup, the ones they ordered and the daily soup that came with their meals. Needless to say, they both took some food home. My wife and I skipped ordering extra soup so our meals were just right in size. The daily soup had ground chicken in it and was very good. My wife ordered Pineapple Curry with chicken, medium spicy, and it came fairly mild. She stil liked it. I had Sweet Basil with pork, medium spicy and it had a bit of life, but now we know to order more spicy than normal here. I also enjoyed my meal. Service was good. We have had better Thai, but can believe this is the best locally. read more
