I had Mongolian beef with egg fried rice and egg roll. My wife had sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and egg roll. She also had the wonton soup which was good. The sweet and sour chicken was okay. The Mongolian beef was mushy and lacked flavor. The same could be said of the egg fried rice. We ate in which was unfortunate since it appears that they cater to take out. There were a few tables. The silverware was plastic. There is no ambience per se! We were visiting from Vegas and wanted a quick to go order to eat in our hotel. I had this place saved in my collection bc it got good reviews and it was close by. 3 stars is a bit harsh but 4 is a bit too generous. Here's why. 1-The cashier greeted us as soon as we walked in. She gave us a menu to look over and when we were ready to order she was very friendly. 2- I asked for the Buddha Delight Veggie dish w no sauce and she offered for it to be steamed w no sauce. I appreciate that. 3-The cost for the amount of food was very reasonable. We got 2 entrees and 3 appetizers for 42$ which is a steal these days! We got: *Teriyaki chicken appetizer which is breaded and fried this was very disappointing to me. My fault for not asking. I assumed it would be grilled like any other teriyaki chicken I've ever had before. I was wrong and didn't realize it until we got back to the hotel. *Egg Rolls W Pork *Wonton Rangoons w Meat (which there were a ton of) and dipping sauce *Buddha Veggie Delight-Steamed no sauce *A Beef and Veggie in sauce dish which we did not order. This was the most disappointing thing. My husband ordered beef Chowmein. IDK how this got mixed up. 4-The entrees come with a side of white rice or fried rice and the fried rice is no extra. The portions were very good sized too. What could use improvement: 1-Dinning area. Very unappealing and dirty. This is clearly a take out joint. Dust was everywhere. You could see the thick layer built up on the shelves over the trash. Made me nervous about the cleanliness of the kitchen but our order was already placed. We were rolling the dice. 2-Making sure the order was correct. We should have checked before we left so we weren't disappointed when we got all the way back to the room. I don't eat deep fried foods so my husband ended up eating the chicken and I ate the beef & veggie dish. It worked out....sorta. Here's the final verdict. I have been in Punta Gorda for many years and have searched from Bradenton to Ft Myers for some good Chinese Food. I finally found 4 stars at King House. They do not have a proper menu online and the person who answers the phone does not speak English very well. Not A stellar experience, we didn't get what we ordered (chicken instead of beef) but it was tasty so I gave them a good Star rating in hopes that they actually read the reviews and make some changes. The food has been consistently hot and fresh and the order has always been correct. It's a lot of food, even the smaller sized portions. The dining area is pretty basic but mostly I've only seen people inside waiting for their take out. Unfortunately this is where the review goes downhill. I ordered the orange chicken and asked for it to be extra spicy. The orange chicken actually had zero spice but even worse it had zero flavor. The hot & sour soup and spring roll were just OK. We kept waiting for something in our $31.35 order to make us want to be a repeat customer at this establishment. My wife got #54 which was a vegetarian broccoli with spicy garlic. It was a huge portion of mixed veggies with a small amount of broccoli and no spicy garlic sauce. I had a rare craving for fried rice but haven't found any in the general vicinity to be anything more than barely edible but I had read about this little place on Yelp and it's near where I take my dog to be groomed so I gave it a shot. I usually make my own. I had made some yum yum sauce like the hibachi houses had so I just wanted some good fried rice. It was delicious and filled with really nice sized shrimp, pork and chicken. Very impressive. It was so good that I went back when I had guests the next week because I had made pork gyozas and wanted something to accompany them. An easy and tasty dinner. Finally, finally, finally. There really is a good Chinese food restaurant in SWF!!! Yipee!!! Food really a four but I'm so tired of eating blunkey "Chinese" food it was a dream come true finding the King House. We've had the excellent chicken lo mein...which really is chicken chow mein where I come from. Just a hint here...if you love chicken chow mein with noodles don't order any chicken chow mein in SWF. Instead of noodles you'll receive deep fried won ton strips and a bowl of soup. Still with me here? While I've had their egg rolls (yawn) I LOVED their pot stickers. Most dishes are a quarter or 50 cents below $10 so rather expensive but still the best Chinese food I've had in the area. HIGHLY recommend the pot stickers. P.S. The place really appears to be set up mostly for take out. They do have a dining area but I've never seen anyone actually eating there except the nice cashier lady.
