Dive-looking, old school Chinese restaurant that hasn't received a design overhaul in 30 years...this is old school Chinese food and darn it, I like it. Potstickers, deep friend shrimp, General Tso...there are no surprises here, just good Chinese food that probably isn't super healthy for you but I can maintain the denial because I always order a veggie. Although parking was almost impossible (I parked several businesses away in the small parking lot), the main dining area was almost empty when my wife and I arrived. However, there was a large group in the bar area, which is separate from the dining area. The furnishings were upscale, although you could easily dress casually. The service was prompt and courteous. There General Tso's chicken is Gluten-free and delicious. The fried almond chicken was delicious, but not gluten-free. We also ordered a veggie friend rice, which came with small pieces of well-cooked zucchini (yum!). They have both booths that give privacy and tables that could easily seat 6+ people. read more

These guys are great. I live close by and they are cool about the minimum order. That customer service goes a long way for me. Food is pretty good, I usually stay close to Chinese-american fair so I'm not the expert on true Chinese. It's Christmas Day, and just about everyone is closed... except for Royal Unicorn! This was my first visit, due to them being a little out of the way from my place, but it was worth the slightly longer drive than normal drive. I am picky and request many substitutions...they always cater to my needs.(not knowing who I am) the only time I had a complaint was when I had take out....and heated up my food...and it was over cooked. because I microwaved it...still tasty! Simon is generous and fair. And for the first time there is delivery, and he cooks till closing!!! I host karaoke there and have been a regular patron for more years than I care to admit. I went to karaoke tonight. Last time I was there, so was Sig Hanson from Deadliest Catch. The food was great both times. The bartender was on top of things and friendly, she made great drinks. The KJ Marti was fantastic and hilarious; she does the best songs. They have a good selection. The sound could be better. Right now you can barely hear yourself on stage so I advise you to sing on the dance floor. They have a very supportive customer base that welcomes people easily. A friend lives in the neighborhood (he's been around, well traveled), and loves this place. Now I do too!! Try the Crispy Beef (terrific & refreshing), and also had the spicy chicken (peppery, yum!). My wife and I have a stellar Chinese restaurant in our neighborhood, and will gladly drive the 20 minutes to this place for a change of pace. We have frequented the place semi-weekly in recent months and the proprietor is friendly, The food is Americanized to our liking and the portions are generous and flavorful. We are pleased until he packs the Take Home boxes. We head home with missing portions and Almond Chicken that has no Almond Gravy. Literally half of our leftovers are not packed. (paid for w/20% plus tip) The Proprietor will NOT allow the customer to box the items nor will he box them in front of you. Just moved to Edmonds and wanted to find our go-to Chinese restaurant. Guess we'll still be searching, this place was awful. We ordered crab rangoon, needed a magnifying glass to find any filling. Moo-shu pork was mostly shredded cabbage and carrott, very little pork and sauce. Kung Pao chicken was mostly green peppers and onions, found two slivers of carrot, chunks of zucchini and a few pieces of chewy chicken. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID ORDERING FOOD HERE! I had such a bad experience here tonight! I was determined to order a really gross amount of chinese food to binge on and really didn't want to drive and pick it up so I looked for places that deliver & found Royal Unicorn. I ordered kind of a fucked up amount of food.. about $100 worth, haha. We got two large orders of Won Ton Soup, BBQ Pork, Pot stickers, Steamed Dumplings, Pork Fried Rice, Szechuan Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. They also sent us a free order of Crab Ragoon for spending over $30. They arrived in a little over a half hour, and I was eagerly awaiting. First we open the dumplings & pot stickers which were the exact same product, only one was steamed & the other pan fried. The won ton wrapper around them was crazy thick & absolutely no crispness on the pot stickers. The flavors weren't awful but the consistency of the wrapping was mushy and weird. The Crab Ragoon was really cold, especially in the middle. Which leaves me to believe that it didn't just cool off on the way over, but wasn't cooked through.. I took one bite and could handle no more. The BBQ Pork was the best thing I ate all night, there was nothing special about it but it was good. The won ton soup had a more of a vegetable broth flavor than a chicken-y one like most do & the enormous amount of vegetables were not fresh & the won tons were pretty flavorless. The pork fried rice was alright just not flavorful and had almost a burnt soy sauce taste to it? Not terribly overwhelming but pretty unpleasant regardless. The szechuan chicken had a plentiful amount of this really thin sauce that didn't look very appetizing & had also spilled out of the to go container into the bag making a sticky mess. The mongolian beef was not the worst thing we ordered but it had a really weird almost teriyaki flavor.. but stranger. It was a little chewy with vegetables that were clearly not fresh.. I couldn't force more than two bites of this shit down. This one also spilled sauce out all over the other containers. The sweet and sour pork was ridiculously dried out, I mean pretty much inedible. The sweet and sour sauce was thinner than I like and was way too sweet & really not sour. It didn't have that delicious tangy bite I love so much. Also, there was a large hole in the top of the sweet and sour pork container. The Honey Walnut Shrimp weren't awful but it was warm at best and had an overly chewy texture, frozen overcooked shrimp. I called the restaurant to try to get a refund since a lot of this food was partially inedible, and all of it pretty gross. They pretty much told me there was no way sauce could have spilled out of the bag, that the food was fine, pretty much insinuating I was just lying for free food. They also tried say to say I can't complain because since it was a slow day they made all the food in fifteen minutes and that they got it to me in thirty minutes? It confused me.. why would it matter how fast you could get it to me if the food I got was terrible?? So I told them I would bring the food back and they agreed. We got there and my boyfriend went to run it in and the guy pulled him through a side door to keep him from customers eyes, into a meeting room, laid all of the food out on the table, opened all the containers and yelled at my boyfriend telling him to tell him what was wrong with every single item and counting pieces of shrimp! In the end the guy told my boyfriend, "Okay, I'll give you $65 if you don't post bad reviews." Are you kidding me?! How about, give a refund for bad food and you won't get bad reviews on the internet? Being a complete ASSHOLE to a customer WILL EARN YOU BAD REVIEWS. When my boyfriend told me I was livid.. I couldn't believe the nerve of this guy. When I got home I called Eat24, since that is what it needed to be reimbursed through and they had to call him to get him to give me the refund. I still can't believe this experience. Terrible food & worse service.. It was honestly like pulling teeth getting a refund here.. I don't complain about food often but this was that bad. read more

"THEY MADE A MISTAKE" "I DON'T TAKE THAT" "I DON'T CARE IF YOU STAY OR IF YOU GO". We were shocked. I have just read thru a few of the recently posted comments and reviews... they are mostly consistence and fair with my experiences at this restaurant. Under the new management since last summer, foods are actually more authentic to the original dishes. Most Chinese American restaurants that's still around thicken their sauces heavily with starch, IE: Sweet & Sour etc. If you ever had any good Chinese cooking, you will know the difference. The sauce should be only slightly thickened, still runny. One particularly long 1 star review raised quite a bit of discrepancy. I can't comment on the food that was ordered from EAT24 since I wasn't there. But for every dish to be as bad as described, that's pretty rare for any restaurant. Then to top it off with a counter offer for refund and so a bad review will not be posted? Well.... the story just amused me. I don't think any owner /or manager would actually propose such an offer. read more
