I ordered takeout through Eat24Hours. They offer free delivery for a $25 order and if you spend $30, you receive a free order of crab rangoon. I was eager to try this place because finding decent Chinese for delivery is tough! Unfortunately, I wasn't very satisfied with my order. The bad: Everything was luke warm. The containers were carried sideways so the mongolian beef sauce got all over everything. 4 orders of food, 3 fortune cookies (2 of them smashed). My sweet and sour chicken had NO SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE. Am I a just a stupid, uncultured American or does sweet and sour chicken actually have sweet and sour sauce either on the chicken itself or in a container on the side? The almond chicken ALSO HAD NO SAUCE. So I have 2 orders of plain, breaded chicken, without any sauce to compliment it. Nice! The good: ? The food wasn't bad, but with 2 of the orders being sauceless, I was pretty upset. The crab rangoon also does not taste like it contains any crab, whether imitation or real. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner because he really loves their orange peel beef. I hadn't had Chinese food in a while, so I was pretty excited to check this place out. The interior definitely leaves something to be desired. The lighting is really dark, almost in sort of a creepy way. Not really sure what was going on with that. The decor is definitely dated (70s!), but kind of in a way that I almost liked. The staff is SUPER friendly. Our waiter was really nice and checked in on us constantly (although I'm sure it helped that we were the only people in the dining room - everyone else was in the bar!). My tea and water were both constantly being refilled. The food was decent. Not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it hit the spot. I went with Combination Dinner #2 which had: Wonton soup, egg roll, deep fried prawns, chicken chow mein, and almond fried chicken. The almond fried chicken was super good, as was the chow mein. The prawns were okay, though I could have used some sweet and sour sauce to dip them in rather than the ketchup and hot mustard I was brought. The wonton soup and egg roll were solid, though I've had better soup at other places. Overall, I did enjoy my meal here. The food was fine and the staff are quite nice. Went with nice coupon, ordered the most $$ item on the menu "royal unicorn for two" it was NASTY. they did not accept our coupon. creepy vibe. waiter was somewhat pleasant, in his individual defense. I went to Unicorn for take-out twice as it's handy for grabbing a quick dinner before my evening class in SCC. I had the pork fired rice the first time, not great, the rice was too soft to stir fry on the wok and kinda soggy. I found it a bit too greasy and should've seasoned better. Got chow mien the 2nd time, it was better and I actually liked the sauce they used to cook the noodles. Staff was not too great, did his job efficiently. But talked in a rule tone every time. I knew he didn't mean it, but a bit more patient would not hurt. Not a restaurant that worth coming back. I actually switched to the QFC across the road for quick food after the 2nd time going to Unicorn. *I'm from Hong Kong originally. Just moved to the area, and expected to try a few different delivery places until I found a good one. Got it on the first try! Delivery was quick (much faster than I expected - maybe 15-20 minutes). Delivery guy was polite. I got the chicken chow mein, nothing too complicated but easy to mess up. The noodles were cooked perfectly and weren't drowning in sauce AND not dry, but nicely in-between. The chicken wasn't overcooked (a rare find!) and was nicely proportioned to the noodles. Prices were reasonable for delivery. Also got some egg rolls - they weren't anything spectacular, but then again I'm not the biggest egg roll fan, so I'm never too impressed. So, I've got this thing for American "Chinese" food. I've been looking for a good place up here in the north end of Seattle/King County. A coworker went here recently and suggested it. I was pleasantly surprised. It's not "authentic", but then you wouldn't be here if that's what you wanted. You'd be in the International District! Yay! Decent food, standard prices, and nice service. The fried rice was quite tasty and my eggroll had lots of veggies. The sweet'n'sour sauce was only so-so, but the almond fried chicken was tasty. We are fans for sure, even though we got off on the wrong foot. The first time I went there I was really put off my the dark / 70's interior. I ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns which is apparently a dish with Mayo (UGH!). I hate mayo and was revolted. I ate one bite and was done. They asked what the problem was and I explained that it was terrible. They were 100% determined to make sure that I was happy. I told them that they did not need to get me a new dish because I had already helped my husband eat his Hunan Tofu (very good), but they insisted. The owner brought the Cashew Prawns and I loved them. The egg rolls are fantastic too. We have been several times since. The service is tops. The food is pretty good (except for that honey walnut mess), the decor is not so hot. It has a "bad Chinese" chic, but it is actually not bad. read more

Delivery was prompt. An order of crab rangoon is a great quantity for the price. Unfortunately it was slightly overcooked for me, and the filling was sort of scant. I can't really say how good the filling itself was, but overall it was disappointing. My egg drop soup had strange gelatinous chunks in it, like it hadn't been mixed enough, and was very thick. The snow pea chicken was super bland and the chicken was unappealing. The snow peas and zucchini were at least well cooked, but the celery was all large uneven pieces of the tough bland bottom of the celery. I can't recommend this to anyone, there is much better chinese delivery in this area. Perhaps this place is better for dine in, but this first impression was bad enough that I'll never go in to find out. read more

This place is super strange. We walked in and we were the only people there during lunch rush hours which I thought was really strange. The atmosphere is super weird. The server seemed really unenthusiastic. The food was really greasy and definitely not worth the price--I paid $12 for food that I could've gotten better at Panda Express. The potstickers here are hands down the best in the Seattle metropolitan area. They are the perfect balance between crispy and chewy on the outside; the inside is comprised of succulent pork. My boyfriend and I go here specifically for the potstickers and the staff has memorized us and our order. They also serve excellent standard dishes here. I recommend the beef and bok choi as well as the beef and broccoli special. Also, you should definitely start with the hot and sour soup; it is quite tasty. If you do go here, I recommend specifying exactly what you want because otherwise they may add on some side dishes, like rice, if it the order is ambiguous. The potstickers here are incredible. I recommend getting takeout. Skip the family style and just get your favorites. The portions are way bigger and you skip the menu items that are just so-so. I really wanted to like this place. We just moved to Shoreline from North Seattle and were hoping the Royal Unicorn would become our new go-to spot. Ugh. The bad: 1) The surly teen who sat us and took our order. We were his only table and yet we were barely acknowledged. 2) The filthy tablecloth. The tablecloth had a piece of glass on the top, so you can tell they rarely change the cloth underneath. It was dripping with the remnants of past diners meals. When I mentioned it to said surly teen waiter, he grunted a "sorry" and rambled off. The whole place seemed very shabby and sad. 3) The food. Panda Express is better, honestly. It all seems like it was purchased frozen from the Generic Americanized Chinese Food Factory and just reheated in the back. Nothing horrible but nothing all that good. Bring back the old owners, please. The new ones did alright at first, but I'm not really sure what happened. Their portions are terrible. My family ordered a three person Canton meal, and only received one serving of each course. Their egg rolls are obviously from Costco. Their sauce for their orange chicken and almond fried chicken are served separate, which turns back into the gelatin it was when you put it in the fridge for a few minutes. The chow mein is tasteless, and they don't even bother to serve the correct noodles with it. I could go on, but this is honestly heartbreaking for me. I don't care what anyone says! I LOVE ROYAL UNICORN! It's no where near authentic chinese food but it's SO delicious. It's totally exactly what Americans think chinese food is supposed to be but I totally love it. I always request we go here for my birthday! I alway get the Canton Dinner which is $10.75 per person and includes: Spring rolls, BBQ pork, Won Ton Soup, Sweet and sour pork (I get chicken instead), Pork fried rice, Almond friend chicken, and chicken chow mein. I LOOOOOOVE IT! I always add on pot stickers as well which are huge and the sauce they come with is amazing. I would probably drink it through a straw. It's a good amount of food for the price you pay and the servers/owners are always really friendly and remember me and my friend. We never have to wait for service, and the food is always prompt and hot! If you are also a fan of completely americanized chinese food, definately go here! I have never had any other chinese food that even came close to how good this stuff is! I didn't think they delivered that far but they do, and they have always been timely. Service in the dining room is very good and the servers (I think managers too?) are very friendly. For Shoreline/Richmond Beach this is acceptable Chinese food. I would have given it 3 stars, but the duck was not good. It was salty and my wife and son didn't like it at all. They LIKE duck so we thought it would be a good test. The hot and sour soup was good. My wife is starting to like this soup and testing it at a lot of places. My son enjoyed most of the meal and eat more of the duck than we did. Service was good and if it hadn't been for the poor quality of the duck I would have given it a 3. Every once in awhile I get a craving for the kind of American style "Chinese" food we used to have as kids growing up in the '70s...Royal Unicorn had all those options still available including family style combination meals AND the food tasted great! We got take out for the first time tonight. The ingredients were fresh and of good quality--ie white meat was used for the chicken chow mein and almond chicken. They did not skimp on the portion sizes and the dishes were flavorful--even the gravy for the almond chicken had a nice seasoning. My son loved the orange peel chicken and I was pleasantly surprised by the yumminess of the fried rice and chow mein, which are not my favorite items usually. They did not, but the waiter was extremely helpful. Offering us options that were gluten free and running to check with the cook when he had doubt. While the staff is friendly and accommodating the food has gotten progressively worse over the last several years. On a recent visit my wife and I decided we would never go back again because the food was over cooked and tasted like it had been warmed up. For Washington chinese food this is the only place I will eat. I am accustomed to chinese from California and just prefer how it's done there. My biggest complaint is the batter always has too much flour. So you get these small pieces of chicken/pork/shrimp/beef wrapped in a huge amount of batter drenched in sauce. Chinese is already super unhealthy...why make it worse? I also like to taste my food. So ya, this place has great prices, great food, clean (well as clean as it gets for chinese spots) If you're going to eat a horrible food for your body I say do it right and get the best. read more
