Night skies set the mood

Took my mom to NOLA for a belated Mother's Day excursion & opted to do the ghost walking tour with Jonathan our first night in town. Jonathan did a great job blending history and ghost stories without being too hokie. He also taught us how to get around the French Quarter and made recommendations on things to do/see on our stay. I've done other walking ghost tours at NOLA, and I can safely say I learned SO much thanks to Jonathan; I walked away with a greater appreciation for the French Quarter, the city of New Orleans, and the resilience of the community Thank you Jonathan!

We meet up at the Voodoo Lounge, where there is a ticket office in the back room. We didn't live the bar--smelled a little bit like a sewer and the hurricanes were super sweet and kind of weak. But we did have but one get one, so wasn't that upset. The tour was great. We saw some interesting, haunted places and heard the history behind them. We didn't linger too long at any one place. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny, although he may have been a tad bit too heavy on the Catholic Church jokes. The tour ended at the LaLaurie house, and our guide shared a story about a little girl on who was recently on his tour who started crying and asked why there were dead people on the balcony. Spooky! I was so intrigued by what he said that I started looking up stories about Delphine LaLaurie and the haunting of the house. When I got home, I even started watching season 3 of American Horror Story, which has the character Delphine LaLaurie (accurate? No. Fun? Yes!). This was a fun way to spend the evening. There was an obnoxiously drunk guy on our tour, and our guide handled him well.

She came across like an overly dramatic theater kid who couldn't dial it back. Her mannerisms and constant theatrics were cringey, and while maybe one or two stories had potential, the delivery completely ruined them. She would randomly go off on personal tangents (where she lives, her parents, and other irrelevant details) that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts or vampires and added nothing to the experience. The worst part was her points system, where she'd give out points if people followed instructions or answered questions. For example, when we stayed on the sidewalk instead of walking in the street, she'd shout "10 points!" and point at each person while repeating it. It wasn't quirky or fun, it was just annoying. I wouldn't recommend this tour based on her alone. After our awful experience we tried another company called Nola Ghost Riders and I'd highly recommend them. They are located at the Voodoo Lounge off Decatur St, while French Quarter Phantoms is at Voodoo Lounge off Rampart St.

Date of tour: December 21, 2024…read more After a wonderful food tour in Prague last year, we wanted to replicate the magic stateside while visiting New Orleans, a city with a rich food history and scene. As requested, I will keep the individual location names secret as to not spoil your potential food tour but also because the stops can change and I don't want to have you disappointed if you don't get the same places on your tour. Ty was a great guide, providing us with local history and culture as we ate our way down Magazine Street. The only complaint I have is that they didn't really interact with us during the food portions, standing or sitting off to the side, or running to the next location to make sure we were all set. To me, the guide should be not only the bridge between the locations and food with us, but also a bridge between the different groups on the tour. Ty told us before the tour started that the other folks joining us were from Michigan, but we found out from them later that they were actually from New York. Had these connections been made earlier, it would have enhanced the tour. On to the food, wonderful that it all was! Please note that I may make some errors in the actual names of the food, while I took pictures, I did not write down the names and there wasn't a post-tour recap to assist me! Stop #1: A local sandwich and a seafood side. Both quite good, especially since I don't like olives! Stop #2: An unusual meat that was shockingly good! Stop #3: Seafood options. I've had a different version of one of these items in Asheville, NC. This wasn't quite as good but still tasty. Stop #4: Southern favorites that were so good! I didn't think I would like these but I did. Stop #5: A peppermint fudge cupcake. Sadly, the weakest stop on the tour. Other that tried the gelato came away disappointed and my cupcake was neither overly fudgey or pepperminty. It looked pretty, though!

This is a small group experience, which is why I wanted to do this one. We met at the Tableau Restaurant and were offered the choice of an aperol spritz or a French 75. We chose the spritz. We were told some history and ghost lore before going up to the wine room for some more stories. Very cool. They showed us video of a ghostly incident that had occurred there before. Next we walked down the street where we were told about the haunting at Muriel's Restaurant, where they also set a ghost table. Our last stop was at a psychic shop where we did a tarot card reading and we're given a Pan Am cocktail. I highly recommend this tour. It's unique and you get a little bit of all the good things you come to New Orleans for.

The True Crime Walking Tour of the French Quarter was hands-down one of the best walking tours…read morewe've ever taken, and that is entirely because of Drew. You can immediately tell he doesn't just *recite* stories--he has deeply researched them. Every detail was accurate, thoughtfully sourced, and presented with care and integrity. In a city where true crime can easily slip into sensationalism, Drew handled each story with respect, depth, and historical context. That matters, and it showed. What truly sets Drew apart is how he performs the stories. His delivery was engaging without being theatrical for the sake of it. He told each case with genuine love and passion, making the history feel alive while honoring the real people involved. He kept the group fully engaged from start to finish--thorough, entertaining, and never rushed. Drew is the kind of guide who elevates the entire experience and reflects incredibly well on your company. He's not just knowledgeable--he's a storyteller, a historian, and a professional who clearly takes pride in what he does. A true gem, and absolutely someone you want representing your tours. Highly recommend--especially if you're lucky enough to get Drew as your guide.

All the reviews I read noted it wasn't spooky so we went for it and I'm so glad we did! The meeting spot was easy to find. Our tour guide was Ashley. She was phenomenal. She was great with the kids and kept them engaged. She told us all kinds of things about the history of New Orleans especially Jackson Square. I thoroughly enjoyed the information! The tour was a little short of two hours and the time flies by. Nothing was scary that was shared other than light ghost debauchery. Nothing gory was shared and vocabulary was carefully chosen. Parents learned of stories that they could google later for the information. I highly recommend this tour if you're on the fence! I'm in town for a forensics conference and when I registered, I paid for two spots on the Unique NOLA True Crime Tour that was scheduled for Sunday. My fiancé and I ended up booking a later flight and would not be able to make the Sunday tour, so I called ahead to see if we could be rescheduled. Chris answered the phone and fixed us up without issue; we'd be on the 7pm tour the following day. Carlo texted the group ahead of time as a reminder with the address we would meet him at. At first we were concerned that maybe the tour would cover all the same spots as the usual ghost and vampire tours--my fiancé called that hypothetical "same tour, different flavor"--but I am happy to report that there was only one stop that we had seen before, and Carlo actually mentioned that it's the most famous stop and that it's featured in the other tours. He offered to take us to a different stop instead, but one of our group members was looking forward to seeing the famous one so we did that (you know the one, from AHS). But even there, Carlo stuck to the facts of previous owners of the house, and he told us specifically when an element here or there was a local tale of haunting. All throughout the tour, Carlo was informative, comedic, and didn't claim to know more than he does. We love a factual, history-based tour! At the end, Carlo gave us Mardi Gras tips and directions back to the places we were trying to get to. He grew up in New Orleans, and he's dabbled in a wide range of jobs, so he really knows his stuff. We appreciated every bit of the tour, and would definitely book with them for another tour in the future.

The first time I booked with JWT was in January 2019 on the Vampire VIP Tour. With every step of the uneven NOLa sidewalks JW weaved tales that kept our group enthralled and on our toes. Maybe check yourself and your arrogance and use it to become a fantastic tour guide, because without the deliberate attempt to make someone else look smaller by putting them down, the tour would have been just that...fantastic.
