This is a great greasy burger joint. Nothing fancy, nothing gourmet, just a nice, fast burger It's a walk up window to place your order.....no inside facility. There are picnic tables surroundig the stand so you can eat onsite(outside) Tasty burger, fresh toppings. A little greasier than I like but thats better than being dry! Super fast filling order, almost too fast in taking my order, cashier was a little abrupt, though she did smile and say thank you...always important Biggest complaint is the soda....the cup was filled to brim with ice so there was hardly any soda in the cup. +.5 Service +.5 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

Roy's is a walk up take out burger joint. They mainly offer burgers, hotdogs, fries, shakes and vanilla soft serve ice cream cones. There's an order window to order and pickup your food. There's no inside seating but there's a few picnic tables to eat outside. The service and ordering is quick and straight forward. The food is pretty good for a dive burger stand. The prices seem to be reasonable except for the cups of soda. That's my one complaint, when you order a soft drink, the cup is filled with ice so you don't get a lot of beverage. My suggestion would be to ask for little or no ice if possible.

Wednesday 1/8/2020 5:55pm This is a very small take out restaurant on the side of the road off of Hermitage in lakeside. While I consider it a take out restaurant, there is a few tables for outside seating during less cold temperatures. I was craving a bologna burger and a friend on Facebook suggested Roy's Big Burgers. When I arrived there were no other customers here. As I sat in my car I noticed plenty of cars were in and out. The lady who took my order was VERY nice and helpful. I ordered the bologna burger w/cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onions and mustard, French fries and a sweet tea. I couldn't make it out of the parking lot, I sat right in my car and enjoyed every bite! Bologna burger - the bomb! Just what I needed. Perfect! Small French Fries - they were ok. To be honest, I'm weird about my French fries. I like crinkle cut and steak fries mostly. These were just regular ff, but they were plentiful and hot which I appreciated. Sweet tea - The tea was perfect for me because I'm diabetic and it wasn't that sweet. Annnd they have crushed ice. I'm happy

A Richmond/Lakeside landmark, this walk up burger joint has been an RVA favorite since 1961! Now that's something to crow about! This iconic historic building brings back memories of days gone by. Mustangs cruising down Lakeside Avenue, grabbing burgers and shakes after high school dances ...skate keys... roller rinks... My daughter had never been here, so it was a treat to take her on a maiden voyage and pass on this Richmond tradition. It was too chilly to sit outside, so we sat in our car, like the other diners in the parking lot and chowed down! We got the classic cheeseburgers, fries and chocolate shakes. And, while they are not the best burgers in town, they were satisfying. Coming to Roy's is an experience. It's a right of passage. Are there better burgers and fries out there? Sure, but there's nothing like that nostalgic feeling you get when you open that brown paper bag of greasy goodness and unwrapping that wax paper to find your old fashioned burger inside! It's not a "drive-thru", it's a "drive-to" and "walk-up" and it's super nifty in my book!

It was a tricky life I was living going to school in the City. The burger is excellent. The fries are great. The beer tastes like beer. It's simple, but I love it. It can be a bit packed, so maybe make this a solo endeavor if you're really feeling fat. You can always find a spot at the bar. The parking, not easy for most. But for me, I'm not scared to maybe park in a spot that's not reserved for Jack Browns Customers. I may sweat it for a second, but don't let that potentially 2 block walk stray you away from a delicious burger.

To their credit, they do have a good draft/bottle beer list, and their burgers are indeed good. However, that's really all there is to recommend them. The parking situation here is absolutely awful and starts things off on a bad note. Their absence of a waitlist system made it awkward while our party waited to get a table and other groups waiting for a table jockeyed for position, and they took forever to clean it off even after the previous party had left. While it was nice of my compatriots to pay for my dinner, the server refused to split our checks, which made it especially obnoxious for my friends who had ordered significantly less than others since they were still on the hook for the even split. If this had been the only service issue it might have been somewhat forgivable, but the server all but disappeared for most of the evening after taking our orders, particularly when most of us ran dry before our food finally arrived. This all might be excusable in a cheaper place, but Jack Brown's is NOT cheap anymore, they are just as overpriced as every other "bougie burger" spot around without a valid justification for it. At the end of the evening, I looked really dumb for choosing this place. That is definitely not a mistake I will make twice. Overall: 2.0 stars --- Pros: - Excellent draft and bottle beer list. - Burgers are good and unique. Cons: - Recent price increases kill the value proposition of this spot, just not worth it anymore when there are SO many options around for this sort of thing. - Weird seating/waitlist situation makes for a bad first impression. - Service was incredibly low energy, and as I can attest to as a former restaurant server myself, a party of eight needs some effort to get things right. - Parking here sucks, this area desperately needs at least one parking garage to make it less of an exercise in frustration to get here in the first place.

There's no physical menus, instead you scan a QR code which brings you to their menu. They have lots of drink options, including several specialty cocktails, beers, and ciders. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. For my drink, I ordered a local cider from a Virginia ciderie, as well as the It's A Wrap, which has cheddar, ranch, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and your choice of protein (I got tofu). I also got a side of the Mac and cheese, which I could tell was made in house. Super creamy and flavorful with a hint of spice. My wrap was also insanely good! I'm impressed by the amount of vegetarian options here. Any burger can be made both gluten free or vegan, and the choices of protein make it more accessible for everyone who comes in.
