I really tried to like this place, but on every visit, I've been a little disappointed. Nothing crazy, but the disappointment has been consistent. I'll start off with the good. The burgers are seasoned well, the fries are really good, and the chili cheese dogs hit the spot! Now for the bad... No matter what you order, everything is flat! Burger, pulled pork sandwich, bacon egg & cheese, they're all flat! You can see what I'm taking about in my pics... There's also been a couple of instances where the food was so greasy that that the bottom of my bag collapsed. On one of those occasions, I lost an entire order of fries. Smh... Lastly, the one time that I ordered a breakfast sandwich, it came on a burger bun. No big deal... But when you aldo add the fact that they cook the eggs and toast the bun on the same grill as the burgers and all you can taste is a burger instead of a breakfast sandwich, that kind of ruins it. Even with all that said, I'm not giving up on Roy's, but I definitely won't go out of my way to go there again. read more

An old burger joint that probably brings back good ol' childhood memories for those who grew up decades ago before our now plentiful fast food choices. But for me, meh. I ordered the cheeseburger with everything on it & chilli cheese fries. The burger patty was incredibly thin for the price. Not a horrible cheeseburger, but one that has you thinking, 'why didn't I go to any other fast food joint?' as your chewing looking at the cars at the auto shop next door. The portion of the chilli cheese fries was nice. But it was bland. No salt on the fries, no seasoning in the chilli. I warn you, you will be here chewing the food but thinking of the many different places you could've had a better cheese burger or whatever you ordered. I blew my diet to smithereens at RBB yesterday but it was worth it. It seems the burger patty has gotten thinner while the bun has gotten fatter making the meat to bread ratio a bit uneven. Didn't matter. It was delicious. It was hot, fresh, and I enjoyed every bite. Of course I had to have fries, a regular order is more than enough. They were fresh, super hot, crispy, and extra potato-y. There's so much on the menu it's hard to choose because it's all good. It's a long way from where I live now, and I doubt I'd make the crosstown trip just for a burger, but I go to Roy's every time I'm in that neck of the woods. Go. See for yourself. This place is a constant local area discussion. People who remember when roys was the bees knees, and people who have eaten there for the first time after the mid 90s or so. I think its actually closer to a 2 star than a 1, but for the love of god a little extra and it could be a 5 again. It charges too much for the quality but it could triple the quality for just a little bit more. I'm hoping the owners read this, because roys could be a 5 star burger joint again with just a little effort. Burger tasted alright but tasted cheap. It tastes like Mcdonald's. I wouldn't recommend it to someone conscious of their health.

Road side burger stand been satisfying folks since before any of the complainers here turned up their noses to their first unchilled Pellegrino. If your food needs to be a social marker or "from New Zealand" then you ain't gonna like this or probably anything. This is a place your grandfather ordered a double stack with bacon. You should too. Roy's is a hamburger stand (yes, a stand) in Lakeside that appears to have been around forever... in the 3 years I've lived in Lakeside, I have only visited a handful of times (hamburgers aren't necessarily something I want as a staple in my diet) but every time has been a real treat... Roy's is a classic example of a local fast food chain. You walk up to the window and place your order, they make it in the back, and they send it out to you in a paper bag. I like to stick with a good old-fashioned hamburger- a little American cheese, lettuce/tomato, mustard/ketchup/mayo, and some pickles. I think Roy's makes their burgers fresh (though I haven't asked) and their toppings are all really fresh as well. I usually get a single cheeseburger but my husband gets a double... both are much much better than anything you get at McDonalds. And pretty much the same price. And yes, they do more than just hamburgers. They do hot dogs and fries :) And breakfast... I am pretty sure I saw a sign for a porkroll sandwich, which I haven't tried but if porkroll is your thing, I bet they do it well. read more

Richmond burger "dive" that's been around a long time. Thin patty style burger on a thin oversize bun. Get it "all the way" with mustard, mayo, diced onions, lettuce, tomato. The onions and lettuce give it that great crunch. Nothing over the top, but a solid dive-type burger joint, with outdoor seating only. read more

First of all, this is a legit burger STAND. As in you walk up to it, order, and sit at picnic tables to eat, or take it home. The menu is limited to doing a few things just right, and its been there for over 50 years. Jag and I both got double cheeseburgers with extra cheese and bacon. They were perfect. Honestly the chili chili cheese fries that we split was overkill and we couldnt finish them. ---- The burger was PERFECT. I know that in past reviews I've complained about burgers not being cooked to my liking, but thats a different school of thought in terms of burger joints. These burgers are "smashed" and served well done and greasy. To order 'all the way' means mustard, ketchup, onions, lettuce, pickles, and a tomato. Thats what we did, and it rocked. I will say that ordering the extra cheese was a good idea, as no matter how many patties you order there is only one slice of cheese. The extra slice evened things out and made it perfect. The double patty was also a good idea, as these patties are smashed and thin. Order a double cheeseburger with bacon (they HEAP it on) and extra cheese, you wont be sad. So good. Chili cheese fries. PERFECT. Honestly the fries seemed a bit soggy and bland without anything on it, but it was soooooo good with the chili and cheese! The chili was beanless and well seasoned - not overwhelming. A must try. -------------- This place is within walking distance of my house, but I would drive at least 10-15 minutes to go there. Not 30, but maybe 20. I will be craving this place now. I enjoy it so much! Really a throwback experience. Next time I'll be ordering a chili dog, as the chili we got on the fries would be perfect on a coney dog. Take relatives here. People have told me this place is an institution of this area. Well.....they need institute some better service and food. I was looking just for a quick burger one afternoon and stopped in. When I arrived I was the only one there, stood at the window for a good 6-7 minutes, peered inside and saw a couple people walking around, clearly seeing me, but not talking to me or opening the window. A large line grew behind me and finally someone helped me, but this person was not very happy to. Got just a cheeseburger a few minutes after I ordered and I went on my way. The burger was ok. The women who work here were very rude and nasty when they got my order wrong! And I brought it back and after the second attempt they still got it wrong.Because of the guy who not only took my order wrong and wrote it down wrong but told me wrong about how it came and when I asked for the original order with everything I asked for they got upset that they had to add two extra things they also got upset when I calmly tried to explain what happened.(but I was told I had to specify my order and it was my responsibility to do so newsflash I DONT WORK THERE! read more

Roy'a Big Burger has got to be the most nostalgic and tasteful burger joint in all of Richmond. It is my favorite place to eat and hang with friends on a nice summer day, or get a warm meal on a cold winter night. The burgers are super juicy and cooked perfectly and the fries are delightful. My mother lives nearby at Imperial Plaza. Most Fridays I bring her a Roy's Big Burger all the way with onion rings. She loves it every time. I get the Big Burger with cheese all the way and the onion rings are such a generous portion that we share one order and are both stuffed. I love old-fashioned hamburger stand food. Ordered the big boy burger, hot dog, and chili cheese fries. Burger was not that big. If you are going to name your burger BIG BOY, I expect a BIG BOY. WIENER WAS SHRIVELED. NO GRILL MARKS. JUST SHRIVEL. The picture on Uber Eats depicted cheese and chili on my fries, there were no cheese AND no chili. I paid $3, and I EXPECTED a plump wiener and sauced fries. The main appeal of Roy's to me is the history. The food was pretty good not fantastic. Price was a bit on the high side but not bad for a non-chain establishment. I don't think I would make it a destination but if you're in the Lakeside area, it's worth stopping. I live in the neighborhood behind Roy's and I will be back. read more
