I always look forward to stopping at Cook Out whenever I'm visiting family because we don't have one where I live. It's always a place I look forward to whenever we're out of state. The positives first: the staff was friendly, my order came out quickly, and you really can't beat the prices for what you get. Everything else we ordered was fresh, tasted great, and we had no issues at all. Unfortunately, my corn dog was burnt from end to end. The outside was nearly black, and the inside was dry enough that it was inedible. It was disappointing because it should have never made it out of the kitchen in that condition. I'm giving 3 stars because the customer service, value, and the rest of the food were all great. I'm hoping this was just a one-time mistake because I really do enjoy Cook Out and will definitely give this location another chance. I just hope they're a little more careful with quality control next time. read more

The worst Cook-Out on the planet. I went through the drive-thru and the employee who took my order had no clue what a Cook-Out Style burger was! She kept asking what I wanted on my burger, I kept repeating I want it Cook-Out Style. I then had to state what was on a Cook-Out Style burger to a Cook-Out employee. Who the !@3$ are you hiring?!? Burger I received was totally wrong, the employee just gave up trying to understand what Cook-Out Style meant and picked her own toppings for my burger. I found a twist tie in the burger only after I put it in my mouth and was chewing. I spoke to the manager who looked at me with a sour face and made a weak apology. In the restroom, there was no hand soap. This made me wonder what the workers do after they go to the bathroom. read more

The food is fine. Hot and fresh. What's odd is that my receipt says $13 and some change but the guy at the drive thru window told me it would be $16.00. I was tired at the time and didn't question it and just gave him my cc card. After I was done eating I looked at my receipt and noticed it was odd I was charged $16 and yet my receipt said $13 and some change. I guess he gave himself a tip. Next time I will ask for the amt on the receipt. Or just go inside to order. I feel like I got tricked. People be careful! read more

Worst experience ever. If you can drive to another cookout that is close, go there. I know cookout is considered "after hours" food, but even so, they completely ignored our request and gave us a completely wrong meal. When calling the customer service number I was sent to voicemail. I didn't receive half my meal, after driving 30+ mins to get cookout. I called to get a refund on the items I didn't receive and was told I'd have to go back to store to get it. Everything (including customer service) was handled very carelessly and this is not an establishment I will give my money too. They wouldn't even give me sauce! Cook-Out is far out! I totally dig this ingenious drive thru eatery! Two lanes = Lightning fast service! We placed our order, crispy chicken ranch wrap, hot dogs and chocolate shakes... literally as we pulled around to pay, our order was up! If you're in the mood for fresh burgers, corn dogs, hush puppies, bbq, fries, onion rings or other "fair food", this place will quell that craving! C'mon, we all like to indulge in a little fried food once in awhile! They also make a mean BLT, and good char-grilled chicken breast sandwiches! The prices rock! Inexpensive, tasty fast food that will please your pocketbook as well as your tummy! Don't get me started on the Creamery Styled Shakes! So many flavors, so little time! The seasonal shakes are worth a try! Thick, creamy, delicious, refreshing and a ton more adjectives just begin to describe the old fashioned shakes here. They rival one of my favs, 5 guys, but have so many more choices, dozens of combinations! My kids are huge fans of their Cheerwine soda, and soft serve Coke floats! Cook-Out began in NC, and since has spread like fast food wildfire to VA and many other states! This particular store is drive thru only, but some of their stores are dine-in. Recommended for a fast-food small-chain experience. We got takeaway from the Henrico store on Eastridge Saturday, May 20, 2023, after a mountain bike race. Our order was a shake, double cheeseburger, corn dog, and BBQ plate. The strawberry shake was flawless and a nice size for the price. The double cheeseburger, which I did not get, left me envious. Thick and juicy, my little man wolfed it down quickly and he was delighted. I may sneak over today and get one. I had the BBQ. The presentation was odd, a half-pound of pulpy looking shredded pork, with a splash of sauce, a half-cup of coleslaw, fries and hush puppies. I made a sandwich of the slaw and pork when we got home, and it just worked. I did add a little hot sauce and some Kings Famous BBQ sauce to tart it up a little. Really delicious. The fries suffered for sitting the ride home, but were decent, as were the hush puppies. Corn dog girl liked hers well enough, so she was happy with it. 1st time at Cookout after all the years it's been in Richmond. 1415 E. Ridge Road, Henrico. I went Friday evening around 6pm 3/30/18. First I was overwhelmed by the menu. I couldn't figure out the way it's organized, or not. I was greeted by a friendly voice asking me if they could take my order. I asked for a few minutes. As I was trying to figure out the menu I was interrupted by the voice again asking if I was ready. I wasn't, but since there were people behind me and I didn't have time to read the menu, I settled for a bacon cheeseburger w/French Fries. Once I was home, I put the burger on a paper plate with the ff. The ff were eh, but the burger was surprisingly good. I'll revisit again when I'm running short of time. First meal when we got here since we got in late. I had the Cajun grilled chicken sandwich, onion rings and coleslaw. The sandwich was not spicy, but the chicken breast was tender. The coleslaw was good, a bit tangy. The onion rings were crispy and the outside lightly salted. The meal itself was not large, which was good since I was eating later in the evening. So far as fast food restaurants go, Cookout is my favorite in the Carolinas and Southern Virginia. This particular location is good but service is slow. However, these burgers are cooked to order so slower service is expected. Their sides are fabulous. Instead of French fries, you can also get quesadillas, hush puppies, slaw, onion rings, chicken nuggets among other items. The shakes here are out of this world. Dozens of flavors to choose from and a spoon is a must. Keep in mind that there is no indoor seating available so plan to take it home or back to your hotel room and enjoy. read more

The drive thru menu can be confusing because there are a lot of options (only reason what I gave a 4 instead of 5) I had looked at the menu before coming so I knew what wanted. The food was given to me literally like a tray from a cookout lol I thought that was nice. My food was hot and fresh. Food taste like it came of the grill at a cookout! The coke float was good! I like that the ice cream wasn't too sweet. Remember to ask for condiments. Open until late in the AM seems like the spot to get some food at 2am 3 am. That's a plus too. read more

Coming from the north part of the country, I've never been to a Cook-Out before. I have been to fast food places before, and love burgers in general, so why wouldn't I try it?! -- Food: I came here twice: Once on the 4th of July to get a burger because my lazy ass didn't want to cook one, and the second time to try one of their Cheeseburger Trays because my lazy ... well, you get the point. (But isn't that why we eat fast food anyway?) The tray works in the following fashion: You pick a main item, like a cheeseburger. You then pick two sides, which range from typical sides like fries or onion rings, or non typical sides like chili, chicken nuggets, chicken wraps, or corndogs. Last you get a drink, or 99 cents more for a milkshake. All of this for about $6. Anyway, both times delicious. Also, this is fast food. No one is claiming it isn't. Cook-Out isn't going to win a burger award against an upscale burger place like Burger Bach. That said, Cook-Out makes a damn good burger. As others have said, they taste more char-grilled than just about every fast food place I can think of, and all in all is very satisfying. Not overly greasy but very filling. I'm sure I wouldn't be pleased to look at Nutrition facts, but that's life, right? It almost more reminds me of take-out diner food, which is a concept I can live with! -- Cost: My Cheeseburger tray of a Cheeseburger, Fries, Ranch Chicken Wrap, and a Blueberry Cheesecake Milkshake was just over $6.50. A lot of tasty fast food for a little money = Win. -- Service: For those not aware, Cook-Out is a Drive-Thru only place. Service is incredibly fast, at least both times I went, ordering, paying, and receiving my food in 5 - 8 minutes. I suppose if you order a lot it might take longer. The window cashier was super nice despite me using the window-on-the-right drive thru without having a passenger, creating some awkward reaching and stretching. -- Atmosphere: Cook-Out is located a bit off of a main intersection, but I haven't had a hard time pulling in or out. There are two drive thrus and both seem speedy and convenient. -- Overall: Yeah, it's fast food, but it's good! Probably my new favorite fast food place actually. The buns were stale on the hamburger and both hotdogs 2. The steakhouse burger was lacking the A1 sauce 3. Both hotdogs had onions on them and they were not supposed to 4. It was about 9.00 bucks to feed the 2 of us are u kidding? and it comes with a large drink...it was crazy. I eat here 2-3x a week and I gotta say, the staff is incredible, the food tastes great, and they're always timely. However, the staff has ZERO way of properly receiving an order due to poor microphones and speakers. In fact, their electronics are so bad, and their staff is so good, that I don't even mention when they get my order wrong anymore. It's not their fault. I can only imagine the hell they go through on a daily basis trying to perform their jobs without unnecessary problems. Whatever manager keeps denying them the basic fundamentals they need to do their job should be fired. It's a glaring problem that's purposely overlooked for some random reason. Yes, you caught me, I am a fatty and a total food stalker. Yes, the delicious taste of vinegary pulled pork, fresh cole slaw, and milk shakes with super fresh-tasting fruit left a food memory that lasted for six years or more from the time I first tried Cook-Out by chance on a family road trip in NC until the moment I saw that red and black sign pop up earlier this week. And yes, my heart jumped for joy and I OMG'd big time, texting every food lover I knew as soon as I saw the Cook-Out sign. Did I vow to be in line the first day? Sure did! I passed by around 8 tonight and noticed that they were up and ready for their first day today,New Years Eve, with a steady flow of people who knew exactly what was up when they saw that Cook-Out sign. Did I stop in? How could I not?! So why all the hype about a fast food joint, Kristen? I thought you didn't even like fast food. You're exactly right, but Cook-Out is far from your average fast food joint. They serve around 21 delicious milkshake flavors (2.29) ranging from strawberry to pineapple to peanut butter banana to blueberry and everything in between, they serve delicious BBQ, the Cole slaw is super fresh, the hush puppies have the perfect crunch and lean just slightly on the sweet with a hint of onion, the burgers have that delicious family cookout charcoal taste I love, and the price is right. For just over two bucks, you get a dlishious pulled pork sandwich and four bucks gets you a combo of pulled pork, slaw, hush puppies, and fries. Where else can you get homemade taste at price? Yet another plus--they serve all pulled pork topped Texas Pete! HEllo! These people know what they're doing! So, the question left, then, is did Richmond's new Cook-Out stack up to what I had in NC six years ago or more? OH YES! A good food memory never lies! if you're wondering about that peanut butter banana milkshake, just go for it! It's amazing! It's thick and creamy peanut-buttery goodness with soft bits of fresh and tasty banana. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! The pulled pork, slaw, and hush puppies were all amazing just like before. It beats ketchupy VA style BBQ any day! Consistently the worst place I've ever gone to. I cannot remember the last time they haven't messed up my order in some horrendous way, from not giving all of the food, to messing up multiple items, and charging for things that weren't ordered, or usually a combination of the three. This was my first visit to Cook-Out. The menu was confusing and the line was long, but the cashier was extremely helpful when I asked for a recommendation. We ordered two cheeseburger trays, one with fries and hush puppies, the other with onion rings and hush puppies. And the price was unbelievably inexpensive! The onion rings were pretty good, crispy and lightly salted. The fries were only OK, slightly bland and mushy. The hush puppies just tasted like frozen, deep fried hush puppies. The burgers were pretty good, with that char-grilled taste of grilling a frozen patty in the backyard. However, since we took the burgers home, and they were wrapped in foil, the buns had become a soggy mess and we had to add extra ketchup, as the patties were kind of dry. The chocolate banana milkshake was yummy, albeit so thick, I couldn't drink it with a straw! Honestly, this is not NEARLY as good as fresh, home made cook-out food, but it's OK for fast food. IMHO, this is a very inexpensive place to grab a quick bite of deep fried, cheap food. As long as you don't go there expecting a gourmet meal, you'll be pleasantly surprised! read more
