Had to call Roadside Assistance to jump it so I could get to O'Reilly's Auto Parts for a new battery before they closed. They said it was the alternator not the battery. Contacted DFW Mobile Repair and Hamm responded immediately with a price quote to fix it. Set up the appointment for mid-afternoon the next day, July 5th (Sunday, on a holiday weekend). Hamm was certainly knowledgeable, and after testing, said it was BOTH the battery and alternator. He replaced the alternator (which he had brought, having had my prior information as to car and model) and then drove to O'Reilly's nearby for a replacement battery which he then installed. In short, Hamm was responsive, capable, courteous and efficient. DFW saved the day (although I lost most of the holiday weekend with the problem!). Pricing wasn't cheap but was competitive I'd say. Give DFW a shot. Their customer service and mechanical work was outstanding. They also have a shop in addition to their mobile repair service. I will certainly consider them for all my future work! The whole thing was done in an hour, much quicker than the book labor rate. The car was left running for another 30-40 mins to let the sealant cured. Boss didn't explain that. He just said it was not ready. Boss is super busy running in & out, inspect incoming vehicles, talking to customers in person, follow up on repairs by the team, ordering parts and answering messages and inquiries, doing cashiering, writing receipts. I can see why he can't do all that all the time but he is pretty close to Mr. Do it all. Most people would be overwhelmed in his shoes, but he is pretty calm the whole time. I was charged $175 for a diagnostic visit that lasted five minutes and only confirmed what I had already told him the issue was, that my A/C compressor wasn't engaging. He then quoted an additional $900 to complete the repair. Before scheduling, I specifically asked if he could give me a rough estimate over the phone on this repair since I already knew what the problem was. He declined. I should have known at that point to not schedule the meeting but I booked it anyway out of convenience. Had I been given somewhat of a broad estimate at the very least or that he only uses OEM parts and not aftermarket options, I would not have scheduled the appointment. I understand charging for diagnostics, but it seems like price gouging when there wasn't any new value provided. I wish more details had been communicated upfront to me. Instead, I ended up paying $175 for receiving no new information or having any repair done.
