I was in Culver City visiting my friends who work at Sony Pictures Studios. A food truck caught my attention, and my friend insisted I try it. I went there and asked them to make something with nachos, and they made me an incredible dish with nachos, cheese, salsa, and rice. The taste was amazing--the sauces and flavors were just wow! The location by Smart & Final on Venice Blvd. Where do I start.... Food is average at best, but the service is completely atrocious. From how they make you feel or even make fun of your order... it's very uncomfortable. I have been there 3-4 times cuz is walking distance, after a long day off work just tired too cook a meal but there service makes me want too drink a Red Bull and just cook. Attitude towards no Hispanic/Latino customers is horrible. Working in the restaurant industry for years as a server I know what's service, from simply courtesy, to full course service. Never seen a food truck that doesn't even offer the little caps too poor your salsa etc When asking for them, they ask how much did you purchase or even make a face handing one only !!! Best fish tacos, outside of Baja!! Ruben and Leticia catered my daughter's graduation party yesterday, providing made to order fresh tacos, along with grilled vegetables, chips, of different salsas, fresh salad, and vegetarian rice and beans at my request. Parking: Easy, open, street with a smart & final next door I have tried the lengua, carne asada, and tripa tacos. THE TRIPA IS WHERE IT'S AT!!! Perfectly crispy but not overly fried. It is amazing and I highly recommend it. Condiments: there are 3-4 salsas and none of them really stand out to me. I like my tripa tacos with a squeeze of lime + a bite of cucumber. ENJOY! This place is definitely good only if it's 1-3am and there is nothing else available food to get. This was sadly the word al-pastor I've ever had because it had NO FLAVOR. For the price, I expected the asada fries to be bigger. The only thing that saved them were the salsas, the red sauce had good flavor. Suggestion: if you get the asada fries open up the container and add your salsas to the fries right there cause they limit the amount of salsa containers they give you lol read more

I used to be obsessed with this place but sadly the quality has gone way down in this last year. The last two times I was there cockroaches were crawling on (and falling into) the salsas on the outside counter. Thankfully a couple noticed before I did and warned me before I got my usual 4 cups of salsa :( I feel bad because I loved supporting these guys. I thought that Echo Park had late night Mexican food covered, but Rubens has got to be one of the best taco trucks in LA. The truck opens at 6pm and then doesn't close until 3am. There is always a small crowd of people, whether it's dinner time (7-8pm), fourth meal time (10-11pm), or beyond late (1am or later). Not as long lines as Tito's tacos, but still enough of a wait to tell you their food is solid. What sets Rubens apart is the big spit of roasted pork, freshly carved for you when you order your taco, burrito or one of a dozen other Mexican items, including ones I've never heard of like tlayuda, blandita, huaraches -- and I used to live in San Diego. The meat is so fragrant walking by, and it was absolutely delicious in our taco and burrito as it was savory and also had slightly crispy edges. I was a bit disappointed by the taco -- just a tiny street taco size corn tortilla with some meat, no toppings. But they do have a salsa bar that covers the toppings you might want like onions and cilantro, and spicy fresh salsas. Maybe an authentic taco isn't supposed to have a bunch of veggies on top of it? Still it was delicious, just way too small. The burrito is definitely the better value as it's at least 4x the size of the taco. They grill the tortilla to seal in the meat, beans and rice (not a lot of toppings included here either)...it was absolute perfection when we ate it the other night after leaving the hospital Emergency Room (starving) nearby. If you want a lighter option, there are vegetarian options (just veg instead of meat) as well as tortas, which is like a Mexican sandwich. How can you resist $1 tacos?? I can't lol. I live about 2 blocks away from this Ruben's truck so it's really handy yet dangerous to be so conveniently close. I've been here several times now and am a fan of their al pastor tacos! Their mulitas are really darn good too. The have a self serve salsa station and several folding chairs to eat at. According to the internet there are several Ruben's Tacos trucks. To be clear, the one I'm reviewing the one by Smart and Final on Venice Blvd. It's the only Ruben's Tacos to me. I must have driven by it dozens of times thinking how I wanted to stop there, but there was never a time. Then I was driving home late one night, hungry, and I finally stopped. It lived up to my expectations. I was so hungry I got four tacos and a quesadilla. Normally I don't do quesadillas at taco trucks, but I thought, "why not?" It was delicious in all its greasy goodness. It was cheesy and delightful. I devoured my tacos, the way I always do, with salsa, cilantro, and onions. I'm not saying Ruben's Tacos is any better than other great taco trucks. But it is definitely a five start establishment. Five stars for being another wonderful food truck on the LA Mexican food scene. read more

So I been coming to this location at Venice for some time and let me say it's been nothing but disappointed everytime I go witch is not to offen I always either ask for a burrito or a torta of cecina or tasajo and they never seem to have any tof those meat . They only either have asada or chicken that's it . It really does suck only having two options of meat . I think they should put a sign saying that . And sometimes my burrito isent wrap correctly so when I get home to eat it it just fall apart . I wish i had other places to go that's near my home . read more

If you're hungry and want a cheap and quick meal, Rubens a good spot. Came here around 2am and ordered a few tacos as well as a burrito. Tacos were fairly standard, as is your burrito with the rice & beans + protein. Both the carne asada and al pastor is good, but if I had to choose, definitely the al pastor. Salsas are definitely not as spicy as other taco trucks, but there are 3 options instead of the usual two. They do have items like carne asada fries and nachos that you don't see at other taco trucks, but having lived in SD for awhile, nothing beats the carne asada fries down there. Good spot to hit up if you're in the area and looking for cheap bites. read more

In terms of taco trucks around the city this was an okay place. The reason I say okay is that it's a bit more expensive for a burrito than I usually pay (most places I've been to in LA charge $6 and this place charges $7). Was craving tacos one night at 2:30 am and yelp recommended this taco joint to me. Excited to try another taco truck in WEST LA I got there found street parking and stood in line to order. The line was not long waited about 10 minutes. Got to the front and I asked her what meat she recommended. Carne asada, so I told her I wanted a carne asada burrito and a Barbacoa burrito. To my surprise she said they were all out of Barbacoa. So sad. So I settled for some al pastor tacos. She mentioned they were topped with pineapple. In the back of my head im thinking of Leo's delicious fresh pineapple but no. The pastor seemed to be cooked with the pineapple giving the meat a very very odd flavor. However I will tell you that the carne asada burrito was pretty delicious. Smaller than a chipotle burrito but then again for $6 at 2:30am. Who I am to be complaining. It was good food. The second time I was here I was very disappointed. Tortilla was stale, meat was not juicy, and again no Barbacoa. Soooooo take it off the Menu then!! I've passed by Rubens numerous times over the years and always wanted to give it a try. Finally, this past friday, after a night out in hollywood I stopped by. After finding out that each taco (except for fish/lengua which is $1.50) i got super happy. I decided to be a fattie and ordered four tacos with the following meats: -pastor -tripas -asada -barbacoa Personally for me, the tacos were just okay..BUT for $1 a pop, it's a really great price. The meats in my opinion where kinda bitter and a bit burnt. I didn't really enjoy the taste but did appreciate how cheap the items were. I didn't get the juicy, savory, lovely flavors that everyone else discussed, but i did love the super spicy onion/cucumber/pepper mix. Would I come back again? Maybe...if there was nothing else open. Also, it's so close to me, that it would be a nice ideal late night drunk food eat.. other than that, I probably would visit the other taco trucks and pay a tad bit more instead. read more

Today me and my boyfriend and his best friend went to get some burritos and they were awesome Ruben taco truck was one of the best taco trucks that I have ever been to in a very long time, you get a good burrito for seven bucks and if you add more to it, it comes out to like nine bucks but it was really really good, the meat was fresh and well seasoned and I really appreciate the fast customer service we received from the staff. They even had chairs out side for you to sit down but I advise you to actually take it to go. They do charge extra for more sauces and stuff but they give you two of each for free then if you want more it's extra. I really like the way the burrito is made and packed and it makes you be able to taste the whole burrito not some parts of the food your eating. Rubens Tacos is my neighborhood taco spot. This taco truck is here from 5pm to super late at night, and it's so clutch. After having a night of drinking, or if you just want cheap Mexican food, this is the place to go. They even have a couple of chairs to sit here. If you're looking for parking, there is plenty at the Smart and Final right next to it. The tacos here are only $1!!! And they are so good! I swear they taste even better knowing you only paid a dollar. They have really good carne asada fries too. Not the best, but if you're craving some, go here! The best part about the taco truck are the many salsas they have available. They give you to-go cups and a plastic bag. I always get lots of cilantro, lime, and onions as well as the salsa verde. Ruben's tacos has the best tacos on the Westside. My mouth is watering just thinking about the tacos. They are only A DOLLAR! You can't beat that. The carne asada is nicely seasoned and just has a great taste overall. Since I am a salsa whore, having the ability to grab as much salsa as I want really makes me like this place even more. For tacos that cost about $1-$1.25 on average and are available late into the night, you can't go wrong with Rubens Tacos. That have a number of options such as Carne Asada, Cabeza, and Al Pastor. Other options include fish tacos, burritos, and carne asada fries. I've a big fan of the cabeza. The carne asada tacos and al pastor are pretty average, but once you add some sauce onto and are just craving tacos late, after a night out, definitely can't complain, especially given the price. They have a number of sauces you can pick and they give you a couple of to go sauce trays for them. The orange sauce is the most spicy, not the red one. Cash Only. Not the best tacos in the area, but for a buck you really can't complain. I've had the pastor tacos, California burrito, and asada fries (drools). Love the latter two, definitely had better of the former. I love that they have an array of sauces, and all the onions & cilantro/lemons you want. My greedy self had a field day with those. All you have to do is ask for the containers or bags. I loved their asada fries. Just the right amount of cheese, sour cream, and fries. I'm a carnivore so the more meat the merrier. The close at 3am most days and I swung by after a basketball game late in the evening and sat in one of the lawn chairs and watched novelas while I waited for my food. This place is the epitome of mediocrity. While it's not bad, I literally haven't tried a taco place that was worse than this. To elaborate, the food here is just a C, but we're in LA, where we're surrounded by A level Mexican food. The fact that so many "elites" are raving about this place makes me question their food judging skills. They're saying it's cheap... Well yeah, compared to a sit down restaurant. It's the same price as pretty much every other real taco truck in a 20 mile radius (not counting hipster taco trucks). And if you think these are the best tacos, you really should get out more. You can drive 10 minutes east and have at least half a dozen taco trucks that are the same price but taste much better. read more
