I finally tried the legendary rubicon deli and I wasn't disappointed. For years I've been hearing and seeing rave reviews. Several friends and I went after going to the temporary open house at the Mormon temple. We pulled into the lot and the gates were open on both sides. There were a few parking spaces left. It felt like our lucky day. We all looked at the menu at the walk up counter. Some of us ordered via kiosk and some with a person. I used the kiosk which was pretty easy. We did have trouble getting out of the lot and guard was incredibly rude, accusing us of being there for hours instead of the time it took us to order and eat. I thought I had been to nearly every sandwich shop in San Diego County but obviously, I had not yet crossed the Rubicon. The sandwiches here are excellent. Yes, they are huge. Yes, a half size is plenty for a meal (although the regular size is the better deal). I can eat as much as a horse and the half size was plenty, trust me. But if you want to get the large and save the other half for another day, that is the smarter financial decision. The Achin' 4 Bacon was more turkey than bacon but the bacon was delicious. I am not a big turkey sandwich guy normally but you get a lot of fresh turkey and the bacon was fresh and very crisp. Another turkey sandwich, the Rubicon Special, was even better. This one comes with turkey and a red pepper tapenade that was very good. My favorite sandwich was the Hog's Breath which comes with ham and bacon and an excellent sweet/hot mustard. We got all three on Dutch Crunch bread, which, in my opinion, is one of the greatest of all breads. We also received a complimentary little fresh-baked and delicious cookie with each sandwich. My friend took me here after we worked out because she said it was a filling spot yet didn't make you feel heavy and she was correct! I got the half portion of the hot mess, and thought that was the perfect portion for me :) It was soo yummy! I really liked the crispy onions and arugula with mushroom. Thanks to Liz who took the initiative to ask if we needed our parking to be validated. That's great customer service right there. Unlike any other places where they already see you holding parking ticket but they do not take the extra step to ask. In addition, she offered assistance if we needed any recommendations since it's our first time. She recommended super Mario which did not disappoint. We went for Dutch crunch bread and glad we did. Wow. What amazing sandwiches! My friend and I are vegetarian so we ordered the hot mess and whale's veg in the pesto bread and tried both. A half sandwich is more than enough for one person though! The full must be for a family. Each sandwich came with a cookie wrapped inside too. The whales veg is a typical veg cold sandwich with sprouts and avocados wheras the hot mess as the name suggests is a hot sandwich with mushrooms, delicious tempura onions, and (in our opinion) too many sun dried tomatoes. Delicious! Went with a group of friends and it was awesome. I ordered a half sandwich ( buffalo turkey) they have a choice of 6 breads. I got garlic parmesaun. I added in chips and a drink. You use a computer to order your items. It was a bit difficult as there was no description of the sandwich. So you have to look at the physical menu on the wall, or the laminated one. Or try to get the attention of staff to ask. The 1/2 sandwich was huge and had lots of fillings. Had a little heat from the sauce, and a bit messy but delicious. I should have stopped at the first half but it was so good. The bread was nice and crusty but soft inside. The wavy chips tasted housemate and had a little bit of seasoning salt. Tucked into the sandwich wrapper was a little chocolate chip cookie, which was a sweet surprise. Everything was delicious. When in the area would definetly go back. My friends enjoyed their sandwiches and salad. Oh FYI its a paid parking lot. The gate was open when we went in. Then closed when we left and we could not get out as we had no ticket. We were in the place less then an hour. I did notice there was a validation machine inside. But we had nothing to validate..it took almost 10 minutes to exit the lot. The quality was good. I tried the dapper Dipper on the Dutch crunch bread. The au hus dipping sauce and everything was great. The mushroom brie bisque was short on salt flavor. I assume they are made for customers who wants less salt in their diet, and other customers to put salt manually to adjust for their individual preferences. Only thing for me was, $20 for a sandwich. I never paid $20 for a sandwich before. I am glad I am in 40's and not living pay check to paycheck, cuz I would not purchase this if my income was what they were in my 30's. read more

Our company ordered here for a corporate meeting with our Chief. The orders were all decent but the portions that we received were very scant compared to what we normally get. We still enjoyed the food. The order consisted of about 9 sandwiches, 3 salads, and a couple of drink items. This Rubicon location can get very busy especially at lunch time. Getting in and out can also be very tricky. But when you're craving that sandwich, there's no choice but to brave it! So many yummy sandwiches! My absolute fav is the Dapper Dipper on Dutch crunch bread. Just love the au jus dip! Others that are just as yummy are Dom Pastram, Giddy up (toasted). Hubs enjoys the Dapper as well, but also the Super Mario. Adding the Tomato Basil bisque is an absolute must! It's got a tiny kick, but completely manageable (not a spicy loving person). I wish they had a large size of the soup that's how much I enjoy the soup! You get a tiny cookie with your sandwich which is just enough most of the time, but when you want more cookies, just get the dozen, you won't regret it! :) There's a covered patio if you want to dine in. They have Stubborn soda drink machine, the Root beer is my fav. The only horrible thing about this location is the crazy lunch rush and the parking. I have now been able to try more items from their menu and overall, I think it's a pretty decent place. I enjoy their Superfood Salad with chicken a lot, but it gets gross if you don't eat it right away. Their Bacon Potato Salad is a hit or miss, but their chips are amazing! The most interesting thing I've had from here is I got my BYO turkey, provolone, avocado sammich as a lettuce wrap. we came here back to back because of how delishhh the sandwiches are, def the best sandwiches I've had. the toasted rich boy with garlic & cheese bread was amazing & so was the cold spicy tuna with garlic and cheese. they have a variety of toasted and cold sandwiches on their menu & canned sodas. the staff was very friendly and quick to give recommendations. a bonus that they sneak cookies into your to-go orders :) parking is a bit tricky but you're safe if you come bright and early & bring a few coins for the meters or if you don't mind parking up the hill and walking. i wasn't initially a sandwich gal but this place has me hooked! read more

The sandwiches we're good, but not necessarily great. The sandwich consists of about 80% bread and 20% of the inner items (meat, lettuce, etc.). We were expecting fresh bread options but were disappointed. You will pay a higher price - we left with only two half sandwiches and a $30+ bill. Rubicon Deli may be th best sandwich place I have ever been too. I've tried over 4 sandwiches now and every single one of them are nothing short of phenomenal. Delicious in every single way. Whether cold or hot, each sandwich is crafted excellently with an enormous amount of customization available for choice. I would highly reccomend the garlic bread choice (you can choose your own bread) and try the dipper dapper, which is my personal favorite (although those looking for more vegetables should steer clear, there are many other excellent sandwiches they offer with veggies). Also they give you a free cookie with every purchase! The food arrives very quickly, and the staff are nice and responsive. But it's not a sit down restaurant, so don't expect people to be filling your water or anything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience, I'd argue, doesn't really matter, but yelp says I have to include it. First time visiting this location. Ordered a whales veggie sandwich. It was just as delicious as my previous visit.

With a hungry stomach growling at me I remembered rubicon was close by so I quickly ordered a lunch box samie which included half of a Hot Mess, 4 chocolate chip cookies and a bag of chips. I also wanted some extra protein so I added skirt steak to the sandwich for an additional $4. In total I spent $22.29 not including the tip. The lunch box option is a bonus because I would typically add all of that anyways and it's always moe expensive. I love that on Yelp you can order and know exactly when to pick it up while directions appear on my screen. Ohh the luxurious life of technology! The location is always clean and I love the abundance with seating inside and outside. No matter if you want to bathe in the warm sunshine or enjoy it in the shade they have you covered with the option of open red umbrellas on the patio. The only downside to this location is the parking is a secure paid lot at $1.50 every 20 minutes. I do however love that Starbucks is in the same area so you can get your caffeine jolt while satisfying the hungry beast within. The sandwich was excellent especially with the added skirt steak which I have never done. Topping off my sandwich with jalapeño chips inside if you know you know.
