    Rubicon Tank Hatch

If you are sensitive to the smell of mildew or urine, choose an alternative float studio. Lucky for my friend and I, we were able to compare Rubicon to Urban Float. Urban Float smelled clean! No mildew or urine smells anywhere there! The Texan did have the nerve to bad mouth Urban Float, stating that Rubicon's tanks were bigger and better. Size is not everything! If you have nothing to compare your experience at Rubicon to, you might be misled by the Texan at the front desk. He might convince you that it is clean even though the tank is beyond slimy and reeks. The smell in the room where the tank is, smells like mildew, and inside the tank literally smells like urine. I don't know about you, but I had a difficult time clearing my head as I knew in my gut something was not right. I don't like the idea of paying $90 to float in pee. Gross! My friend and I both got out early and scrubbed the best we could in the cold mist shower. It was impossible to rinse properly and uncomfortable that it was only cold water not even warm. After the float, cleaning off in a hot shower would have been helpful especially feeling baptized in urine. When I got to the lobby, my friend was already discussing the smell with the Texan. He asked me how the float was, and I told him it smelled like urine and hindered my relaxation. He acted so surprised and as if he had never heard this news before. He did not offer a refund or even a discount. Instead, he watched us walk out the door. We walked away and both agreed we would never return there again. Such a disappointment!

It was late and we were looking for a place that would be open late. My husband remembered that he tried a new place called My Spa and that it was a great massage. I walked in and noticed a clean well appointed space, not necessarily screaming luxury but very nice. I chose deep tissue and then my service began. Incredible is the only way to describe it. Deep tissue massages are not for the faint of heart . They are not for those looking to go to sleep during the massage. She was firm and targeted spending most time on the areas that needed it most. She started on my legs and feet and then worked her way up. I was most impressed with the owner's knowledge and experience. She is an expert in Chinese massage and understands and is trained on the benefits of Chinese medicine. As a result she understands the connection of massage and other areas of your body. This is different than other local massage places. This is a high quality massage that addresses your whole body. Suffice it to say, that I left feeling so much better than when I entered. I've already made an appointment to go back.

This is located in the first floor of an apartment complex in Bellevue - the lobby is clean and the staff person I worked with was friendly and knowledgeable. Each float tank is in a clean, private, lockable room with a shower and towels and ear plugs - everything you need. The float tank experience itself is pretty cool - after showering you get in the tank, which is about ten inches of water with a whole bunch of epsom salt in it. The water and the air are the same temperature as the human body so it's a bit hard to distinguish between you and the environment after a bit. You can close the tank and turn off the light for a complete sensory deprivation experience, or try any combo to your comfort level. Being able to float provides great stretches and opportunities for meditation. I thought it would be hard to figure get through an hour of doing nothing - but it goes fast! The tank plays music to let you know the experience is over (for now). Afterwards I felt like I had a great massage. Go!

I arrived around 3:45 as was requested when I made my appointment. The person working at the front desk checked me in, and went to check if my room was ready, which it was. I was given a brief tour of the lobby area, which had the lounge and an area with beverages to consume as wanted. We went immediately to my room, which was extremely clean. I was given a brief intro on how to use the sensory deprivation room, and the employee also pointed out where everything was written in case I missed something! Everything needed was there. They provide ear plugs, and several towels, and instruct you to wear the ear plugs, take a shower and clean yourself with neutral temperature water, and no hair conditioner. Afterwards, I completely dried my face (to reduce the risk of touching your face once in the tank), and they provided packets of petroleum jelly to place on any cuts so they don't burn with the salt. After prepping, I got in the tank, which was quite spacious. I did initially take in a floatie to serve as a head pillow but ended up taking it off. There are two buttons in the tank that control the light, and music if you choose to connect your phone, which I did not but I think that's a great touch. They also provided a spray bottle of fresh water just in case you accidentally touch your eyes and needed to get salt out, and I was advised to bring in a small towel with me just to keep my face free from salt water. I turned off the lights, and floated for an hour which went by way faster than expected! At the end, music played to signal the end of the session, I turned on the lights, got out, and jumped in the shower. They provide scentless shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, along with an ear wash they highly suggest you use containing vinegar. After I dried and got dressed, I ended my session in the lounge with some of their complementary tea. It was a great experience and I'd love to do it again!

I would say the first time is probably a little less relaxing because there's just a lot to remember - shower first, dry your face so you don't touch it, ear wash, ear plugs, and hook up the music... after the first time, I expect it would all come a little more naturally so you can just relax and enjoy it. The host (receptionist? guide?) who checked us in was very helpful, it just seemed like a lot to remember. We each had a 60-minute float, and we used the cabins that are shaped like rooms rather than tubs. You can play your own playlist (I searched for spa massage and chose a playlist) or float in silence, it is dark in the tub and the lights come up to signal the end of your time. They had everything you need. If you want to bring your own products, you could, but you could walk in from the street empty-handed and be just fine. Before we left, I asked if I could see one of the tubs, because I was curious how small they are and whether I would feel claustrophobic. They're much bigger than I expected, even after studying the website! I'd have no worries, and, in fact, he told me they recently had a WNBA player as a guest so, even if you're tall, you should be fine. If Float Seattle was closer to home or a little more convenient for me to get to, I would probably think about membership but, for now, it will have to be a little trick to stick in my back pocket to remember when I need to relax.
