Bought the Rubio's breakfast burrito, would not recommend. The ingredients tasted bland and the sausage was not fresh. I LOVE this place!!! The food is reasonably priced, and consistently delicious. My wife and I eat there often. It's family owned and operated. This fact comes across in the best possible way. They have attention to detail that only comes from really caring about what one does. Give this place a try and you'll be hooked. Two things you MUST try there: 1: Chili Relleno Casserole(STELLAR! I try to make it there for lunch every time they make it. It's THAT tasty.) 2: Rubios Breakfast Burrito(they made a masterpiece with this one. Sooooo soooo good! I can't believe this is a few blocks away from my home of 10 years! My husband and I went here for breakfast this morning. Mind you, I am a super picky eater... I got the breakfast burrito (veggie, I added avocado) and it was AMAZING. We went for a bike ride after and I kept thinking, that burrito was sooo good, I want to go back immediately and eat another! Great for breakfast. They open at 7:30am but close early, 3:30pm. Their breakfast burritos are large and so yummy! They may not be the fanciest of spots (located near a freeway entrance and strip club) but good food is all that matters...and a private parking lot in Los Angeles! Great service. Still, I ordered a breakfast that should have come with blended Salvadorean beans, but came with whole pinto beans. Also, sour cream instead of just cream was served with it and even though I requested corn tortillas, none were included. Got off the plane starving. Punched in breakfast burrito on YELP and gps'd ourselves to Rubio's. We were late for breakfast but the extremely nice folks working the counter and kitchen hooked us up! Absolutely stellar service and the burrito was perfect!! Couldn't be better! While we were shoveling burrito into our smiling faces the guy behind the counter brought us a slice of bread pudding on the house just to see what we thought. Then the chef asked us about our food. Breakfast burrito review! Got the Rubio's Breakfast Burrito which has eggs, bacon, sausage, potato and cheese in it. I'd give it 3.65 stars for the burrito. It was decently flavorful, but wow me. The ingredients were pretty standard and I think that was what could have put it over the top if they had better stuff to start with. Also, the breakfast burrito didn't have that gooey awesome-ness that a perfect breakfast burrito can have and the insides would topple out when I cut it open (this is a fork and knife only type). I got their breakfast burrito. Its not your typical breakfast burrito that u would get from Fantastic burger or Steve's Burger(both located in the south bay area). The one I got had bacon, sausage, egg, i believe it was jack cheese, home fried potatos(not the usual hash browns), bell pepers & onions. It was fresh, not greasy, not heavy and satisfying. They have a pretty complete menu of breakfast items that I cant recall everything but they ahve your basic egg dishes, breakfast burritos, etc.. They also have a counter with lots of fresh baked goods that actually look very promising but I cant vouch for them yet. I figure next time I may get a muffin and a danish or something to try. There were also various desserts that looked pretty good too. The location is a little hidden and its really easy to miss the driveway to the parking lot. Its a one way street so as youre heading down, youll see a bunch of bushes covering the building, you just turn in immediately after the bushes....if not, you could either go around the block or if its clear, do what i did.......ended up just backing up all the way into the driveway and into the parking spot. =) yeah, if anyone saw me, im sure they would have laughed. read more

On my quest for the best breakfast burrito in LA, Rubios popped on my radar thanks to some great yelp reviews and I decided to give it a go. Rubio greeted us at the counter and he's one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. I ordered the mixed breakfast burrito and a fresh glass of strawberry juice. The juice was huge and delicious! When my burrito arrived, I was all smiles. I delved in for my first bite, and I was happy, but not blown away. Rubio makes a decent breakfast burrito, but I think I can only give it 3.5/5 stars. Just north of Venice Blvd. this midsized clean twelve table place has been here for at least ten years. Today for breakfast I had the eggs w/ chorizo. The scrambled eggs mixed with the chorizo was sublime. I wanted more. It came with perfect rice and beans, and hot corn tortillas. All this for $4.60. The columbian coffee served has a deep rich flavor perfect for the morning. They also have other coffees. They serve lunch as well and have great $6.00 sandwiches and other items. Super cute, family run place, and one of the best breakfasts around for the price. I was a little hesitant when I first drove up because it's located next to a gentlemen's club, but it really doesn't affect the dining experience whatsoever. I usually always get the omelet, and they have fresh squeezed juices for cheap! No basic Mexican fare here, almost everything they offer needs an explanation, but not a long one, you will want to get that part over quick and get a plate in your face. Rubios is a gem of a restaurant. It has a beautiful outdoor patio. This is not a fancy place - you order at the counter and they bring the food to you, but you can tell the owners care about their food, presentation and feeding their customers healthy, tasty and affordable food. Everything my husband and I ordered, we loved. The customer service was tops as well! Rubios is located within walking distance from the Expo line and is close to the i-10 freeway entrance. Very, very nice people running the place, frequenting the place, cooking, etc. I've seen it for years but it has to be in the worst location on the planet - next to a strip joint, on a one-way near-highway with little labeling that can wind you up on the 10 if you're not careful, and to get back to surface streets is confusing as all get-out since there's no sign and no sight-line to where you want to be. In the midst of this traffic nightmare is a food joint that I admit thinking for years existed primarily to sober up their next door neighbors. Goes to show you how wrong prejudices can be. This is the nicest, most delicious, family-run and family-friendly place. My bad -- don't let it be yours! You can reach this place only north-bound on Robertson coming up from Venice. Stay in the right-hand lane. After the building is a driveway-don't go too fast or you'll miss it, though the block's not long to go around for a second try if necessary. It's worth the effort. We had a #5 breakfast burrito and plantains breakfast, two juices and a desert (they were kind enough to honor the yelp freebie even though I was wrong about its validity -- it's intended for nighttime only. But they scraped up an incredibly delicious chocolate mousse desert anyway just because. Just because I guess they have such big hearts they were worried we'd be disappointed, which we weren't but gosh were we thrilled with their largesse all the same!), and a couple homemade pastries. The pastries were really a cross between Mexican panaderia-fare and American star-bux-style pastries. In a really good way I'd say. Not too sweet but tasty, slightly less than that ultra-white flour, more body to it. They were really nice. The cake was so good that though we'd intended to save it for later, well, that just did not happen. The cake didn't look amazingly appealing to me personally but it's flavor was terrific. The breakfast burrito must have had 5 eggs in it. It was very good. There were small bits of I guess it was zucchini? Might have been nopales but I don't think so. For my taste I would have preferred slightly more veggies -zukes and potatoes to slightly less eggs; bacon and sausage was perfect for me, which is to say possibly a little on the less-plentiful side. Again, that's by far my preference but it's possible some super-meat lovers would find it lacking. For me, I thought it was so good I know I'll have a hard time limiting my purchase of these from now on. It was near-perfect. I guess if the tortillas had been handmade it would have been 6 stars, but again, I'm not complaining, just indulging in a thought game of what minor tweaks could have achieved perfection. Yummy salsa too, with a little bit of corn and very smoky tomatoes. Perhaps the biggest downer was that they didn't use real plates, just paper and plastic. To me that's disappointing, tastes less good, is environmentally destructive and really detracts from the friendliness. It's my biggest complaint, almost worth a one-star demerit. That the family was so friendly is why I don't have the heart to deduct it. But gosh it would be great if they read this and served on real plates?! It's nice to feel at home not just and only because the family Is all so friendly but also because you're eating from cutlery with some permanence. Thank you! Please try this place for yourself! I went here because of the breakfast burrito reviews and I must say, if this is the best breakfast burrito you have ever had, you are missing out. It isn't BAD, it just isn't great. I had the Rubio (egg, potato, cheese, sausage, bacon, veggies) and it was almost entirely egg. So much egg that I ended up taking about half of it out. The rest of the ingredients were scattered pretty thin in the sea of yellow. The people running Rubio's are wonderful and I wish I had liked the food more, but I really don't think I can go back for another very average breakfast burrito. read more

I like this place for breakfast for a lazy Saturday morning. I've craved for thier food on Sundays too, but sadly they're not open. While I associate most Mexican joints with greasy fried fast food, Rubio's feels homemade and fresh. Their menu is small, offering plates like Huevos con chorizo thats served with rice pilaf, beans, and avocado and tomato slices. They also offer a wide variety of fresh juices and agua frescas like pinapple, orange, passionfruit, and other fruits I can't remember the name of. Their sandwiches remind me of the kind a mommy would make made with white bread and stuffed perfectly. , and I l do love their variety of salads for lunch. I will echo what cherie c. said-- from the outside you would never expect what you find inside this cozy, clean, Mexican delicatessen. On display in the glass cases are all sorts of fresh salads and pastries. In back, the kitchen is busy cooking up excellent, down home dishes like fajitas, enchiladas, chile relleno casserole, tortilla pie and even chicken parmesan. All the ingredients are fresh and the flavors are delicious. If you're a fan of homemade ethnic food, this place is definitely worth a visit. And they deliver, too! read more
