Had a very disappointing experience here on 11/10/18. First it's clear the staff is overwhelmed and under staffed as even before they took our order they felt compelled to tell us the wait for food would be at least 25 minutes as if to warn us and avoid angry customers. We said "ok" as a group and would wait. First they bring only half our order which happened to be mine and I taste the pinto beans and they are completely burnt and/or reused or something I took 2 bites and didn't touch the rest definitely a burnt taste (which also ruined my chips side because I like to dip in the pinto beans) Additionally, I ordered the shrimp taco and the cheese was absolutely disgusting, burnt and looked like shredded cheese became a piece of welded paper. I ate the taco ONLY after removing the paper of cheese. When I told the lead staff member she said "it's toasted it's supposed to look like that" so burnt cheese is the standard of practice???moreover, We wait another 10 minutes for the other half which they got wrong and needed to correct. The original fish tacos were over cooked, the chicken nuggets my niece ordered were hard/over cooked, my beans were burnt, even the soft tortillas were hard. Additionally, the trash was overflowing and no utensils available for those of us dining in. I did address this with the lead on staff and she offered me a meal ticket (which I declined because I am NOT looking for freebies just quality product and service especially for the price we pay here) but being I only saw 3-4 team members working during a Saturday night rush I can only blame upper management for their lack of foresight. My family and I had dinner here yesterday evening. Rubio's is one of our favorite eateries (chicken tortilla soup is the best!), but it was the service by Jonathan that made our dinner more than good. He was super friendly & welcoming, knowledgeable and had no problem with a couple of our 'custom' orders. It wasn't busy when we arrived, but within a 1/2 hour there was a constant flow of customers (dinner rush, perhaps), yet Jonathan was on top of it--staying cool, calm & collected AND friendly to boot. We even heard another customer praise him! Good food & great service, can't beat that!! read more

I have placed a call in order once, a Door-Dash order once, and walked in to order a few times. Each time, every way I order it takes over 40 minutes to receive to meal. One of the dine-in times in particular, I watched my meal sit behind the counter for 20 minutes. When we asked how soon it would be ready they said they were just waiting on the churros...they kept the meal behind the counter for 15 more minutes before they handed it to us. This is not what I've come to expect from Rubios, but I will no longer be visiting the Santee location who can't seem to get organized enough to get orders out in a reasonable amount of time. read more

I've been on a Rubio's kick lately. For this particular store, the staff have been friendly and welcoming. The facility is clean & well-kept. The salsa bar is kept tidy and stocked, as well as the utensil area. The food is consistent, fresh, and delicious. On my most recent visit, I received the wrong salad. I was down with that - it actually fit what I was looking for more than what I ordered, except it didn't have any dressing. I went back inside and mentioned this to one of the guys working, who turned to grab some dressing for me (after offering to remake my order) and at the same time, another gentleman handed me the correct salad. Things I'd like to see improved upon include: more avocado. And I wish I had asked what the 'mistake' salad was so I know what to order next time but I didn't. I'm not knocking stars for one hiccup, not enough avocado, or my choice to not ask questions, though. Mistakes happen & it's how they handle it that matters. I love Rubios in general, but I really love my "home" Rubios. I can always count on them to get my order done to perfection (with a side of amazing white sauce whose name I can never remember!!!) and ordering over the phone is a piece of cake. I just started a new job so my hours are wonky. So I had a hankering for fish tacos at 11 am today. The cashier/manager that helped me was pleasant but she seemed like she just wanted to get back to what she was doing before. The other cashier, I think her name was Thalia? Is not a person who should deal with the public. Only person I can give props to is the girl who made my tacos. They were good but the chips were stale. Like 3 days stale. I used to like this store because they had good customer service. I've been a customer since they opened in Santee way back. However, the service has gone down over the years. Today was my last order with them. I placed my order online and saw they had free Doordash delivery with a minimum $20 order. I decided to give it a try. The Doordash guy arrived on time, but when I opened the bag my drink wasn't with the order. I called Rubio's and was told basically it wasn't their problem. They couldn't refund my money because I ordered online. They said they'd give me a free drink if I came into the store, but it wouldn't really be free since I paid for it already, right? And coming into the store to get my drink pretty much defeats the purpose of having your order delivered. There was NO apology. They keep my money, I have no drink. In addition, the food was cold. The tacos were edible, but the beans appeared to be straight from the fridge. My next order will be from my local, small business taco shop, and I'll just pick it up myself. Normally love this place for the Original Fish Taco for taco Tuesday, but was extremely disappointed this time around. I ordered 5 tacos for me and my daughter. My daughter always gives me her limes as she dislikes them. Sad to say but she didn't have limes, neither did mine! Fish tacos without limes???? We then began to eat them and my daughter said why did you give the small ones? They were all extremely small, even the corn tortillas. Are smaller tacos the new standard for taco Tuesdays? Ordered the chicken chopped salad. Very few tortilla chips mixed in. Sticky tables. They had been refinished badly and the lacquer had not dried properly. There was a managers meeting one table away. One manager had a big fat ass with his butt crack hanging out. Disgusting to sit and eat with that picture 3 feet away. No apology when I asked the waitress to have him pull his pants up. I have worked in the Fast Food industry before and I know that when it is hectic and busy sometimes it can be hard to work hard and be pleasant. Rubios in Santee always does a good job of this even on Taco Tuesdays when it is packed! They are working hard with smiling faces and treating customers with an awesome attitude. It is rare to see this in workers at Fast Food places anymore, but the workers at Rubios are very consistant in their great attitudes. Love the food and the atmosphere. Rubios,,, A funny story. When I came out here from NYC I thought Taco Bell was "Mexican Food". My Supervisor says to me where do I want to go for lunch, I said Taco Bell, he said you want Mexican?I said yes,, so he told me we would go to Rubios, they have killer fish tacos. I have to say I was apprehensive to say the least., fish tacos didn't work in my East Coast mind. All it took was one bite, I was hooked! Have to say I am glad you went back to the Orginal Recipe. Always, ALWAYS fresh and delish, ALWAYS clean -the diningroom and the salsa bar (even the bathroom), NEVER disappointed with my meal, regardless of what it is...this group of staff GET customer service and deserve a pat on the back (or more!), I can always count on a good experience going there. Not so much the case with most "fast food" restaurants, especially in Santee...we have lived in Santee for 42 years and can remember when there was no place to eat in town and now we have tons of choices and KNOW we can be happy if we go to Rubios! I normally go to a different location nearer home, but drove past this Rubio's on my lunch break and knew I'd have to try it. I went around my birthday, so I had my AWESOME coupon for free birthday food. The manager took my order himself and was very friendly, the food was great (as usual), AND he threw in a free bag of chips for my birthday - on top of the free burrito I was already getting! I know the chips aren't necessarily worth a lot, but it was such a nice gesture - this will always be my favorite location! read more
