I just picked up a Rubio's mobile order that I made on the app. Apparently this Santee town center Rubio's location does not offer sodas anymore for the kids meals. During the COVID restrictions they offer canned sodas instead of fountain drinks. My kids usually get sprite and was told that they only have diet and that would be an UP CHARGE? What the heck is that all about? We came to this Santee location 2 weeks ago and received canned sprites? Also this is the 2nd time in a row that they received chips instead of churros like I had ordered, they couldn't even eat the chips because they were hard and stale. I should have checked the bag before I left. So basically I paid $12 for kid sized burritos with a side of rice. Not worth it in my opinion. I'll go to a different location in the future and hope my experience is better there. read more

Recently had lunch and Ana (maybe supervisor) really made my lunch enjoyable. She made sure to check on me and to see if everything was good and if I was enjoying the food. She didn't just ask like a robot but smiled and was genuinely interested in making sure I had a good experience at her restaurant she made small talk and had a great personality. I've grown up eating Rubio's and love the world famous fish taco, but this location does not do the brand any justice. The wait times are horrible. And I've gone during the expected "busy" times (Sat at noon) and during the non-peak times (Tues at 11) and in both visits, I waited over 20mins to get a quesadilla and a fish taco. As I waited today, I watched the workers handle my food without gloves on. And to top it off, when my son ordered his meal- he asked for a fish taco meal, she didn't listen and only gave him 1 fish taco. So when we asked for his drink cup that comes with the meal, she said that we do not get one because we didn't order a meal. That is when I looked at my receipt and saw that she charged us for just 1 fish taco. I then requested to pay for the drink, chips and beans... I was told that I would need to get back in line to place another order. (Mind you the same line that I just waited 15mins in to even order.) Horrible customer service. I used to love coming to this Rubios because it is close to my house, however lately, since the change of ownership, the food is not as good. Tonight I got a one taco plate and they wrapped the taco in foil which I thought was weird, when I got home, it was ice cold and the tortilla was uncooked. I think the cook did it on purpose because it was 30 minutes before close and it seemed they were cleaning. (maybe clean after you close??) I went there one evening and they forgot my order. I didn't get it until close to closing. Was I supposed to leave because they were closing up but didn't get my order to me? The next time I went, the two taco plate had such chewey meat in it, half of it ended up on the plate. I love Santee, but sometimes the restaurants go downhill. read more

During our visit our Rubio's, we were greeted by Manny and were reassured to take our time ordering (which is crucial when eating with your indecisive girlfriend). Right before ordering, Manny was confronted by a fairly upset customer and quickly deescalated situation from becoming anything more than what it was. The manager Kathy was texting on her phone the whole time when my husband was taking our order. When waiting for our food I can see that it's done and sitting waiting to be bagged up. Instead she was just texting still on her phone. So my husband made it obvious by getting up and walking over to her. It's 10am in the morning and only me and 1 customer there. Went to this location a couple months ago and waited almost an hour (50 min) for food that was sub-par. Smallest "burrito" I have ever seen with a dry, cracking tortilla and filled with cold, overcooked shrimp. Went back again on a whim Sunday, was first in line, still waited 5 minutes for the cashier to come up. Went to order a burrito, they were out of tortillas. WTF?!? Went elsewhere since there were around 10 people sitting at tables still waiting for food. Better ways to spend my time and money. Horrible management, poorly maintained, and small portions compared to other Rubio's. Don't waist your time here. read more

On Sunday 07/28/19 I walked into make a catering order like many times before at this Rubios. I was assisted by a lovely cashier who was friendly and wanted to help me. Unfortunately her manager was not. Apparently the manager is the only one who knows how to take a catering order. I was asked to come back the following day because the manager was not feeling well. She was no where to be found when I first entered the store. Then I watched her standing in the food prep area leaning over the food while one of the workers was telling her about my request. She apparently declined to talk with me & walked by me standing at the counter with my request, without a word to me. I declined to come back the following day & I also declined to make my order for my 45 guests with this store- it was quite disturbing to see her leaning over the food prep areas and claiming to be too sick to assist me. My friends, many of you have noticed that we got a Rubio's in town. Many of you were there the first week it opened because I waited in a very long line with you for my shrimp burrito and fish taco, but that's o.k., you all are still, my friends. I was pleased to see that our new employees in town knew the proper standards of preparing Rubio's menu items. My shrimp burrito was the right size, and it had the correct portions of shrimp, beans, rice, and sauce. My fish taco tasted like a fish taco. However, my fellow Santeterrians (hmm that sounds like a Metallica song I like) we do not have to drive all the way to OB, or PB, or LJ when we want to impress our out of town friends with an authentic San Diego fish taco! We can keep it real in Santee my friends. Ocean Beach is for the hippies. I have seen the fish tacos there my friends and they look like someone cooked them while they were high or something. They didn't have the greasy breading on the fish, or the soggy corn tortilla. Who makes a fish taco with out a fish stick! They looked nothing like our Rubio's fish tacos. People were making the yummy I'm enjoying these fresh fish tacos so much sounds and ordering more. Stoners. So I ask one thing of you, my friends, my fellow Santituckians, if we support this new idea of a fish in a taco, this Rubio's may not close its doors in the next year. Great service and great food. Restaurant is clean and patronage seems pleasant I have eaten here 2 times in the past month. Parking can be a little difficult in this location but that is not Rubio's fault. Also saw the manager working the floor and the register. We got some coupons in the mail for a free burrito so we decided to scope it out. Nice location, right across the street from Costco. A tad busy but thats to be expected on a Saturday. The inside of this Rubios is pretty large with plenty of seats. They even have some outside too which is nice. I got my free burrito, a fish taco and some chips. Burrito was pretty good. Steak, salsa and guacamole. Not too shabby. The fish taco was good. I always get them without the white sauce becuase I had a bad experience with that stuff once and it makes me sick just thinking about it. Anyways.........I wish yelp would have a 10 star rating scale becuase I would give this a 3.5 aka 7 out of 10 stars. They even have a decent deal going now where if you buy a $25 gift card, they give you a $5 gift card for yourself. If you know you are going to eat here alot thats a hell of a deal....30 bucks worth of Rubios for only $25. read more

for a fast food type chain, this has gotta be one of my faves. rubios has a great menu of just about anything you would want for mexican food (sans carne asada fries...but lets be honest, you leave that kind of thing to the real deal taco shops). this location has fast, friendly service. there's plenty of seating in the restaurant and ample parking in the lot. anything i choose on the menu is tasty ...but my favorite is the shrimp burrito. i always seem to go for this, accept when i'm feeling like having a fish tacos, you can never go wrong with those. oh and the green salsa, how i love the green salsa! ok...now i'm ready to go to rubios! read more

This is absolutely the best Rubio's in SD county! The food is really tasty - all of it - but especially the shrimp burrito and the fish tacos. Everything tastes fresh and is nice and hot (a biggie with me). Nothing is over-spiced or - even worse - bland like La Salsa about a block away. Let's face it: It doesn't matter how healthy it is if you don't want to eat it. This location is always clean and the salsa bar is varied and maintained (don't miss the chipotle salsa - not runny like some places - and the chopped onions and cilantro). All Rubios are not the same - avoid the Mission Gorge/Friars Road one at all costs - but this one is excellent! The lady who manages the Santee store is really on top of things and the atmosphere is frendly and gracious; the service swift even at busy times. I still miss the old Carlos Murphy's but this is a pretty good second. read more

I love Rubios. When I went in this afternoon at 12 it was really crowded. I ordered the Wild Halibut bowl. When I got home the halibut was overcooked. No flakiness as there should have been. Very disappointing. While I waited for my food, an older gentleman in the back was adding more cooked rice to a bin. Without any gloves on he spread the rice to make it even in the bin. It was a fish taco Tuesday and I was there 15 min before closing along with several other last-minute fish taco eaters. The employee who took my order was very friendly and helpful. Another employee was also helpful but seemed as if she was angry with everyone for ordering or still eating 15 min before closing. She was friendly and helpful, but had a mean face on the whole time. It messed with my head. They locked us all in because people were still trying to slip in past closing time. Luckily I had the smarts to turn the lock and free us.
