I came here tonight on the recommendation of a recent Lyft driver and ordered the fish tacos My food was cooked fresh to order. The food was delicious and reminiscent of the classic fish tacos in San Diego. As the chef handed me my order to go, he smiled and said "I made him change his gloves " I was confused for sure when he said "I heard you say you are allergic to shellfish when you ordered. I stood there dumb for a minute as I realized what a thoughtful person to make sure my food was safe. The restaurant was very clean and obviously the service was excellent. First let me say I ordered delivery through Uber Eats. I ordered the taco plate and was very careful to change the tortillas to flour and take off the toppings I don't like or am allergic to. My order arrived and every single topping was still on there. I called the store and explained what happened. She said on their end, they cannot see any changes to the order except the tortilla. She said they know about the problem and have been trying to get Uber Eats to correct it. Honestly I was somewhat dumbfounded. You know there's a problem and you say it's someone else's fault but in the meantime, you're OK with customers getting the wrong order. After I scraped everything off along with most of the sauce, the food was good but I won't be ordering again when I don't know (and neither does Rubio's) if what I ordered is what I'm going to get! read more

Food was great. Cashier was very nice & knowledgeable. Restaurant was in process of being cleaned because it was close to closing time, again! Haha. Only thing was that my husband said his quesadilla was only luke warm. But he still ate it cuz he was starving! Went here for lunch on a recommendation from a co worker. We were absolutely disgusted and disappointed. First off, I try real hard to never leave a bad review, I know how it can affect a business but after a lot of thought, I could not let this go. The lady that helped us was extremely rude and just not a very nice person. I know people have bad days, but this was beyond that I feel. THEN.... We witnessed her eating chips and salsa WHILE she was making food on the line. This is the reason I decided to leave the review. Stopped in here with gift cards last weekend and ordered to go. I found the front staff to be very friendly and welcoming. I appreciated the front of house staffs diligence in packing my to go after the kitchen staff made it. The food was prepared timely and I really love that they have a salsa bar! I ordered a California burrito which is not the best I've had as well as my regular shrimp and bacon burrito. It had a lot of guacamole and seemed different than I've had in the past. Not sure if the ingredients have been changed. All in all rubios is good if you have something you love on the menu (like I've had) but it's not my first choice in Mexican food. Made no effort to either check the website, correct the information or make things right. A little while later, she then called me back and left me a voicemail saying that, yes, it should have come with guacamole and it was my husband's fault for not checking for it. Again, no accountability. She told me I could come back and pick it up. It's an hour away as it's near my hustand's office, not near our home. Being former California residence and now living in North Carolina, we haven't gotten to go to a Rubio's in about seven years!!!! While hanging in Tucson we found RUBIO'S!!!!! This was a true treat. These are the best fish tacos around and they still are!! my husband and I each had two of the Baja fish taco combos and Cerveza. The food was amazing just like when we used to go there!! But the best thing was the front service worker named Marvin!!!! What a great happy and helpful person! He told us about old town Tucson go visit..... and while we sat in the dining room (which was very clean) we heard him complement at least two other customers that came in!!! Stopped in for a quick bite for lunch getting on with my day. The interior is bright and colorful and the staff as well. I was acknowledged once I came in and up to the counter. After looking over the menu, I decided on the two shrimp taco plate, and I was helped with choosing substitutions for my sides. Since I decided to eat in, I was given a number and chose my table. There is a nice patio however it was a little too hot to sit outside. My food was brought to me, as well as silverware that I forgot to pick up, and I began to eat and enjoy. I keep trying to give Rubio a chance. But I keep getting disappointed. Today's reason was mainly due to the lady taking my order. I asked for the fish taco in a cheese shell and she said she doesn't know what that is. Then I explained it to her and she said "oh that's gourmet style". I then corrected her and said it wasn't and she said it was. She then proceeded to up charge me for something I didn't want. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and when my food arrived it was not at all what I wanted. Whoever owns this business needs to train your staff. As we are always eager to try something new, our search for a seafood, Mexican grill, dine in semi fast food spot resulting in us stopping at this location near the El Con plaza. With other food venues and shopping stores well within walking distance, this Baja style eatery will not let you down. The lobster quesadilla was very good and will be my go to for our next trip there. Soups, burritos & Tacos (both chicken & beef) were delicious per the wife and kids. Ample seating, however, the lunch crowd here has got to be insane so forewarned. A lot to choose from on the menu. Came on a Saturday late afternoon. Place was about 50% occupied, tables were being wiped down, and ordering was relatively quick with only two in front of us. We tried their Mexican street corn bowls and chose shrimp as our added protein option. The portion was sizable and the ingredients were all decently fresh, including the guac. Fountain drink dispenser included plain seltzer which I liked! Note: bathrooms are coded. Also, ordering is at the cashier and you bus your own tables upon leaving so bear that in mind when prepaying/pretipping. Love Rubios have been eating there for over 20 years first in California then Tucson when they finally moved here. Stopped in last week to what is apparently the last location located in El Con. Ordered 2 -2 fish taco plates. They brought the food out and it was in edible. The fish was so over cooked there was not any fish left inside. Bedsides being way over done they served it with hardy any sauce or cabbage. I went up and got my money refunded and told the manager she should be ashamed serving that food.What crap place . Went in and they had no drinks available the lady MonaLisa took our order and somehow we got charged an "electronic tip" of $7 which is crazy work for not having drinks available and When I addressed the situation they would not refund the tip kept saying it was our fault we selected a tip even though we did NOT select a tip. This location of Rubio's is decent - we ordered takeout on taco Tuesday and then had dinner here in person another day. For my coworkers who had never partaken in Rubio's before they were impressed with the corn tortillas and fresh shrimp tacos. You can't argue with the taco Tuesday deals they offer, that's for sure! The in-person experience was average for Rubio's. It's a little bit annoying that you are limited in how much salsa/cilantro/onion toppings you can request now due to the pandemic (and subsequent closure of condiments bar). I ordered my usual California Citrus bowl with ancho shrimp and a special fish taco that I threw into the bowl. I gave it 5 stars because I tend to think of places as in belonging in a category. So for a place where you can get a meal quickly, this is an excellent choice. It's at the top of my "fast food" choices. I would not compare this place with an expensive upscale restaurant because I don't think it is a fair comparison. Great place for people who are gluten-free too. Tacos are in corn tortillas. Plus I like they have outdoor seating. It feels like a cozy place to have a meal and very casual atmosphere. There is a running joke among some of my friends that Rubios is a haven for middle aged, to senior women. My recent visit to this location confirmed that stereotype, because apart from me, there was a gathering of about 12 middle aged to senior women in the restaurant. But I digress. This is a restaurant review after all. At the time of my visit, I was feeling financially burdened. I always see Mexican restaurants as among the cheaper places to eat, which was why I was surprised at how expensive everything was. Thankfully, I was able to order from the child's menu, so I got a child's size quesadilla and some mexican street corn. The quesadilla was huge! Much bigger than I expected. In addition to that, the portions on the Mexican street corn were pretty good too! Even better! Towards the end of my visit, another group of middle aged women arrived, though this time, there were two who had their husbands in tow! We exchanged knowing head nods to acknowledge each other's existence, and went on our way. That said, I would totally take the time to visit Rubios again. The price is right for the quality of the food, the portions, and the friendly service. The cilantro lime mojo sauce was absolutely amazing, next time I'm going to ask for extra sauce on the side. The crunch from the grilled veggies, the flavor from the cilantro sauce and grilled salmon was delicious goodness. Also cauliflower and corn was rather a nice touch than boring & usual peppers and onions. The meal could have used little more veggies though. The salmon was cooked to perfection and flavorful.
