CRUDA is located down one of the quieter streets off of one of the more active streets here in Tucson downtown. Nestled a bit further down from Cobra Arcade at the front corner of the street it's on, just walk a bit further and you'll find CRUDA. Not a huge place, maybe about 8 or so actual tables, it's a quaint little spot that's surrounded by many other places that are a bit larger but not necessarily better since the other spots are just so crowded particularly at night. If you want a nicer spot to kick back and unwind, you definitely want to try out this spot first. The night we were there they had live music playing too, and since he spot is smaller but had decently taller ceiling, the sounds and acoustics in there actually wasn't bad. Nice to have someone jamming while you have a bite and a drink. The drinks here were sort of hit or miss for me. The drink I got wasn't bad, the drink my friend got was not good. A couple of drinks others got were also hit or miss. I think the cocktails here are just mediocre. The shots here were a bit pricey, but beggars can't be choosers perhaps. Food here was pretty good. Personal favorite, especially for the drinking crowd, that calamari basket was amazing. Came out piping hot and oh so tasty and perfectly fried. Compared to that hot mess of a fried calamari I had at JA Curry Ramen before, this was leaps and bounds ahead. Just a nice spot to be in if you're looking for more lowkey spots here, and one that isn't awful just because it's quieter for, different reasons. Would recommend. read more

Came in on a Saturday afternoon and were seated right away. We were drawn in by the molcajete and octopus--both absolutely delivered! The shrimp tacos gobernador a la brasa were a solid 8/10--smoky, flavorful, and satisfying. The pasta con camarones a la bucanera was rich and creamy, the perfect comfort dish to round out the meal. Just tried Cruda for the first time and am glad we finally did. We were welcomed by Jorge, who was our server. From greeting to close, Jorge was an incredible host. Incredible service! If you like seafood, Cruda does not miss the mark. I had the ceviche tostadas and loved them. I'm not a big fan of pineapple, but I gave the pineapple agua fresca a shot and it turns out I am a big fan of pineapple agua frescas - at least from Cruda! The place is really cool inside and has a fun feel to it and while it was a little early for a drink, definitely seems like a fun place to have one, so we'll be back for dinner one of these evenings. read more

This place is way too noisy, with not one acoustical item to absorb the sound. Its lack luster feel is not a draw either. The best thing I can say its is a restaurant option downtown, but is just ok. Nothing there made even think to come back. It just seemed that they put minimal effort into the food. The chips were like fried cardboard and the salsa was just ground up tomatoes. I can't believe it took me so long to try this place. Service was great. Made a reservation but didn't need one since it wasn't busy at all on a week night. The decor is very nautical, I felt like I left Tucson. We shared the black salsas aguachile molcajete with ahi tuna and the mar y pina. The seafood was fresh and everything was so delicious. We arrived in DT Tucson on a Thursday night after driving from CA, craved seafood and this was one of the few places that were walking to us that were still going to be opened by the time we walked there. They close at 8pm but they were still offering last call for food at 8pm, that is very flexible and generous in my humble Californian's opinion. Our server (the only one) was super nice and cool. He was so chilled. The place was pretty empty by the time we arrived, only two other parties beside us. We ordered a variety of dishes because we were starving from the drive. Food came out fairly promptly and everything tasted so good! We especially liked the octopus tacos al pastor style, drenched in their achiote & chili guajillo pineapple juice sauce. It's very saucy. We also got a shrimp ceviche tostada and tostada campechana (shrimp and octopus). This one though, it didn't say raw shrimp and there were mostly cooked shrimp but a few shrimps there were totally raw.. They were very generous with the portion. Cruda is the only place in Tucson where I've found truly good ceviche. But if you prefer a traditional cook for your seafood dishes, I would also recommend the arroz marinero (don't let the look of it get you, it's delicious!) or the molcajete camaron bandera. I had an early dinner here a few days ago. I ordered the Molcajete Mixto Aguachile ($32.99) and the Carlota de Limon ($8) for dessert. Both were very good. The Mexican music was not too loud, unlike the last time I was here. Service was good. The best part was that I had a coupon for one free menu item, so I got the expensive Aguachile dish for free and only paid for the dessert. Amazing! Everything was fresh and delicious. The molcajete mixto was so flavorful and had a nice spicy kick, as it should. The oysters and green agua chile were the stars of the torre marisquera, a nice way to try a variety of the options. I was blown away by the oysters rockellefer, the chorizo bits were a flavorful and unexpected spin. The raw oysters were fresh and were combined perfectly with the accompanying home made salsa. As most Mexican marisco restaurants have, there's a basket filled with a wide variety of salsa bottles and saltine crackers. The food was so fresh and flavorful, it wasn't needed They have a nice selection of Mexican beers on tap or by the bottle. They also have a great mixed drink menu, which we didn't try. If you're from the Baja region of Mexico, you accompany your sea food with a Pacifico, as I did. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the wide menu options. Pre-concert dinner conveniently located around the corner 0.1mi from the Fox Theatre on such a sleepy narrow street, Scott St, it almost looked closed from outside. At 5pm on a Sunday, the 3 tables outside in sidewalk patio were taken and about 4 other tables inside. We were greeted momentarily and then opted to take the last larger table with a booth back, facing 3 TVs and bar as the other seats were bar height with single chairs. We had a resy and by 545pm it started to fill up. We were asked if we wanted Chips & Salsa taking our seats, so I guessed there was a charge and sure enough when the bill came, it's a $4.50 hit ;\ Unsure if you get more chips without charge but we did ask for extra salsa as we finished a pretty small dish in a few minutes. It's creamy with a fresh cooked flavor, with not much zing which means you can eat it more quickly haha and we liked it a lot. Chips are warm, sorta thicker and dusted with chile, they are very good. Pineapple Pulpo/octopus Tacos Al Pastor (3) $17.99 with large chunks of pineapple salsa and more of the same tomato salsa, and lemons. The Octopus could definitely be more tender, it's a bit chewy though not Goodyear rubbery haha, completely filled the tacos, and the flavor was yummo. The $19.99 Pan seared Filete Divorciado, 2 very large Red Snapper filets were el primo, in 2 amazing sauces, an orange La Victoria style creamy habanero? Bucanero Sauce and a green poblano Culuichi Sauce; neither were very spicy hot but full of extraordinary flavor; the best Mexican fish I've had in sauces. The side of spring greens could use a light vinaigrette dressing, instead of the sweet mayo one, a cute fluted mini bowl of delicious smoky whole beans and a very flavorful black peppery rice timbale studded with carrots. This plate was just fabulous and has definitely piqued my interest in exploring more of the menu: the orange Bucanero sauce I saw is served in a pasta with mussels and shrimp $24.99, and the Arroz Marinero $17 shrimp octopus mussels are likely targets ;) Staffing is thin so be ready to order as they hit your table as it will still take a while to get your orders. It took 10 mins to get the chips and salsa as he kept bringing items out and lots of walking back and fore looking kinda puzzled at his cc machine. So asked the other waiter passing by about Happy Hour advertised on the board outside and he thought it did not apply to weekends...Hmm asked the 2nd waiter and he said just $1 off cocktails (range $13-15) but I mentioned the board said beer & wine. He then said draft pints were $5, so we got a Modelo (Dos Equis & Barrio Blonde also on tap). Never did get info on the wine haha. Took another 8 mins to get the beer, and by then the salsa was empty and almost the chips too. Entrees took about 40 mins so give yourself plenty of time if you are planning a show, or if you want a 2nd beer on Happy Hr LOL. btw looked on the website again after my visit and found some updated HHr info: HAPPY HOUR $5 Specials (3PM - 6PM ) House Wine, Tequilas, Dos Equis Drafts MONDAYS Tostadas Buy 1, Get 1 for $1 THURSDAYS $3 Bottled Beer, $1.99 Fresh Oysters Before ordering had asked same waiter what the fish was on the Filete D, hoping it was not tilapia (bc inflammation) and he said they "only serve Red Snapper fresh from the Sea of Cortez, all of the fish on the menu is Red Snapper"...? questioned him if the Marlin written on the bar was a mistake as I also saw it in a smoked taco version, as well as tuna and salmon options... oh yes yes he said. Perhaps wherever "fish" is mentioned on the menu, it means Red Snapper? Well CRUDA is no Red Herring, she is the real deal and the Red Snapper, Sea or Cortez or not, was delicioso! Came on a Monday for late lunch when they have $1 bogo tostadas all day. We ordered the ahi (raw tuna) ($15) along with the appetizer of fried calamari ($17). Everything arrived in less than 10 minutes. The tostados are on the smaller side (about 5 inches in diameter) but the diced tuna is piled high and they were delicious. The only disappointment was the calamari. The breading is a bit thicker than we like and the quantity was small for $17, especially versus other establishments around town. In hindsight, we should have ordered a second pair of tostadas, such as the shrimp. Note: while asking if we wanted water/drinks the server also asked if we wanted chips and salsa... not any of the other appetizers, just chips/salsa. I quickly glanced at the "Entradas" or appetizers menu and there was no listing for chips/salsa. We were both hungry, so we nodded yes. The server didn't mention that it cost extra (he did the same thing to the table next to us). But you will suddenly find it on your bill for $4.50 (or about $6 after tax/tip). My husband and I came across San Carlos, Mexico when we got scuba dive certified. I did not read up much on this place except that they did seafood with a Mexican twist, but little did I know that this restaurant would bring forth amazing seafood from this exact region. Everything was fresh and the best thing I ordered there is the Mar y Piña. I had red snapper broiled in delicious Culichi sauce and topped with Oaxacan cheese, served in a half pineapple with grilled shrimp and veggies under that cheese blanket. Need I say more?? The calamari was fire. We ate it as an appetizer while enjoying their carefully crafted cocktails. The Ostiones Preparados were oysters that came with octopus, scallops, shrimp, and avocado. This definitely felt more complete with the sauce and Serrano peppers. My husband enjoyed his Molcajete a la Brasa which had octopus and shrimp served with rice and a Oaxacan cheese quesadilla. The service is so amazing. They were on Dutch Brothers Coffee friendly level without being super imposing. They want you to feel at home there. We will definitely return here and are sending my in-laws here when they stop by Tucson on this weekend's trip. read more

First timer at Cruda, menu looked amazing, but left much to be desired. My husband and I bought a dish from the tostada menu and I wish the waitress would've told us that it was a mini tostada. For the price that i paid i was expecting a little more to my plate. It would've been nice to have sides to go with it.. My friends husband ordered the octopus tacos and the octopus which is rubbery was too tough to eat. I definitely think you should incorporate a happy hour menu. read more

There's a reason that so many reviews mention Jorge Luis--it's because he provides amazing hospitality at CRUDA and treats everyone like they are family! I was here at lunchtime and had a great meal. I wasn't in a rush, so I spent a bit of time reviewing the menu, which has a lot of good options. I was hoping to try the pulpo, but the seafood man had just delivered their order, so the octopus wasn't yet thawed, let alone prepared! Jorge walked me through a few other options, but we decided on the Divorciado with shrimp instead of the fish. It was just right and gave me the chance to try both sauces. I think I slightly prefer the culichi sauce (the green one), but both were yummy. The Lobster Toritos were also delicious, although I couldn't decide if I should eat them out of hand or with a knife and fork. I ended up doing both. I will definitely be back, especially if I see Jorge on duty! (By the way, my photos have a slight pink tinge because I was sitting under the neon sign!) read more

Took my mom here 2 Sundays ago after trying to get here here forever. It was pretty slow when we arrived with only 1 other table, however by the time we left around 8pm, it had filled up a bit. I think there was only 1 server so it definitely left her very busy, which we felt the brunt of. Everything was good up until dessert. I ordered the Carlota de limon and was excited to have my mom try it. We sat and waited and waited for it, watched a table leave, watched tables get their food....boxed our food. We waited at least 20min before we stopped someone to ask where it was. We could hear when they went to the kitchen window that there no such order in. The server came back and then said they were out of the dessert, stating that she was checking with a sister restaurant for the dessert. I felt upset we had waited so long and that none of this was communicated. It felt she had also forgot about us but wasn't saying that. When I told her I wished we would have known instead of sitting so long, she was kind, admitted she was affected by the business, and rectified the situation. The food this visit was good as it has been every other visit. My mom enjoyed it and added it to her list. I love the toritos but was sad to see it wasn't the bacon wrapped ones served during Sonoran restaurant week. The ones during this visit also were a little spicy. My husband felt the tostada ahi tuna has too much of a mushy texture with the ahi and avocado and felt it needed a different texture added. It also would have been nice if it came with chips or extra tostadas to eat it with. All in all this restaurant remains a recommendation on my list. Everyone has busy nights, buts it's the communication and resolution that matters for me. read more

I was really excited about trying this pace and had read only rave reviews but to us it was nothing special. We arrived early Friday dinner (5:00) and were the only people there at that point. Service was fine, although she did roll her eyes at one point when I asked if I could substitute maybe some cabbage or a salad for for the bed of rice. What I had: -Tacos Gobernador--two crispy, fried tacos loaded with finely diced Shrimp and Scallops, along with oaxaca cheese. They might look a little skimpy from the photo, but trust me, these were DENSE. -Shrimp cocktail is phenomenal as well Both dishes are the best renditions I've had this side of the border.
