They also had a trivia night going on. I had one of the double IPAs which was excellent and the Chicken Gyro with a side salad. The amount of food was just right and tasted great. Went there for dinner with a couple of friends. We were there no more than a hour. Got our food. Food was ok. But because we were not buying dessert or drinks after we ate we were asked to leave because they were getting busy. Walked by a table that was there before us and because they were drinking they were not asked to leave. Pretty sure I have never been treated like that in restaurant before. I did find some of them slightly overpriced, but the bartenders are excellent resources to explain what each beer taste like. They can help you find the perfect match based on your preferences. Excellent gastropub. I ordered the carne burger without bun and some 25-cent Wednesday wings. Food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Wings were perfectly crispy but meaty. Nice beer selection too. My only complaint -- and it is minor -- is that the server could have come back more frequently to top off the water or check on the meal.... I had to flag her down to pay my check. I try to limit my number of 5-star ratings but the Ruby Owl checked each of the boxes tonight! Ambience, food, drinks and service was top notch. First time visit (Sunday) on the advice of my college son's professor. Located downtown in an older building with plenty of gastropub charm. I could have done without all the tv's on the walls but it is a bar in Wisconsin and the volume was relatively low (and they were on the same channel so no cross sound). Regular tables and bar tables along the walls with padded "benches". A nice selection of craft beers on tap with 4-5oz flights available ($15). The beer menu is arranged nicely by style. Not an incredible selection (had to be 30?) and only 1 cider but if you can't find anything you are just being a snob. I'm quite familiar with most Wisconsin brews and was pleased to see a few I hadn't known of previously. We started with the cauliflower manchurian (breaded and fried) in the sesame ginger sauce (server recommendation) which was a great choice. Just the right mix of sauce and breading. My wife and I shared a terrific triple smoked burger that was fixed just right and really didn't need any ketchup because of the wonderful sauce it came with. Delicious sweet potato kettle fries complimented. We finished with an incredibly large and tasty caramel apple pie that was served warm with extra caramel sauce and whipped cream. The menu is well laid out with vegan and gluten free labels. It's starters, salads (nice selection), a couple of soups, sandwiches and burgers. Nearly all of the selections are unique in at least some way to the Ruby Owl. No seafood options. One page menu (front & back) so don't expect 50 items to choose from but I've always experienced the best food from places with the smaller menus. I don't think I've done this before but I have to mention our server Karsen. She was the most pleasant, courteous, and attentive server we have had in some time. Rarely do we not have to ask for at least one thing when we go out; she anticipated our needs. She really put the icing on the cake to guarantee that 5th star and when saying goodbye we felt she truly appreciated our visit. The food delivery timing was on-the-spot also. Prices weren't cheap but were in line and definitely worth it considering the quality and portion size. Maybe we caught the right evening but all I can say is that our experience tonight will definitely cause us to return! read more

Very disappointed. Love the concept but they missed the mark on several occasions. Pros - The location and atmosphere are on point. Absolutely love the urban feel of the place. Really enjoy the selection of beers and wines that are available. Cons - The food. The menu looks great, but the actual results are underwhelming. We ordered everything from the cauliflower appetizer, fried avocado, wings, to the chicken gyro, burgers, and apple pie dessert. The cauliflower appetizer was the only thing that had flavor. Everything else we tried was bland. Plus, when we ordered dessert it took 20 minutes to get to our table and it wasn't even warm. The crumble was thick and as hard as a rock. Had to stab the thing with knives to even try a bite. If you're going to make someone wait that long for dessert, it had better be good and recognize that we have been waiting an exceptionally long time. Especially since guests can see into the kitchen and observe that the kitchen staff has no sense of urgency. Meh - The service. Can be hit or miss, depending on how busy the place is. read more

We went last Sunday for food and drinks. Knowing this is by the same team that brought Oshkosh the excellent Gardienia's we were expecting a great tap list and a menu designed for foodies. We were not disappointed in either respect. The beer list is big and interesting, with plenty of great choices (they had two imperial stouts, which my wife and I were thrilled to see) and the menu has some great picks! I ordered poutine for the table and their rendition of the Canadian favorite included delicious red eye gravy, a nice touch. There were some people in the restaurant but not full, we sat at a table and 3 different waiters walked by and looked at us, not acknowledging us. Two of the waiters started cleaning the table next to ours, again, no acknowledgement, we waited 10 min with no one greeting us. We left! Love love love this place. Building part of old Oshkosh, and it turns out was the jewelry store of my Grand Uncle Geo Ma(e)yer. Took my mom there for lunch today and as usual the Owl did not disappoint. Even though it was a super slow day (because it was the day after the 4th of July) every bit of service and food was as awesome as if they had a full house. Fried avocado wedges with freshly prepared aoili as always yummy light and as my Mom said - these are healthy right????? (yup deep fried in the healthy way) Roasted brussels sprout salad soooooo good and makes me feel good about a bowl of roasted veggies, spinach and bacon!!!!! Mom's tomato basil soup with 4 cheese grilled cheese - just the right amount of cream and butter left us full without the usual feeling of food coma. since we had more errands to run and wanted to keep our leftovers (aoli and cheese) safe in our chiller bag, I asked the waitress if she could find me a bag with some ice. She looked confused, but one of the cooks came to the rescue (little bit sassy and acted like he wanted a tip) I said my tip would be to tell all of my friends to this place when in Oshkosh - so here I go - totally recommend read more

I have been here three times in the last month, each time with a different friend. Each time I ordered the turkey club sandwich and all three of my friends ordered the steak sandwich. Went here for the first time with my wife last night. We got there early and it was very busy but still had some open tables. Good sign that they must be doing things right. Grabbed a table up front and was greeted within a couple of minutes. Excellent and well balanced beer selection. The menu is basic with a couple more interesting options. Everything was prepared perfectly and we both really enjoyed the food. Although bar food, it was prospered a couple notches above the norm. The waitress was prompt and polite. This is what I consider good midwestern service. Quietly polite without being over the top friendly and visiting the table too often. To me a perfect balance of service. Only downside is that it was very loud because of the design of the building I believe. But it is s pub and not out of line from what should be expected. Just don't go there if a quiet night out was what was in mind. Great place and we will be back! read more

We went about 2 months after they opened. It was busy but not packed or full. The bartender seemed new and flustered. I ordered the chicken gyros and my friend ordered chicken nachos. My food came first and I waited to begin. After a bit I started eating my fries. When my fries were gone we mentioned to the bartender that my friends food hadn't come yet, he went to check. I continued to eat, we ordered more drinks.i finished my food before my friends food had arrived. After a confusing explanation of what happened and who's fault it might be he said he had re-placed the order and put a rush on it. I know this place was new, and the food was pretty good when it finally came, but the bartender either needs to improve in a hurry or he just won't last. I will go back because this appears to be a nice place with a well thought out menu. The food was tasty and drinks were good in the end.
