I watched Clash of the Cones and was happy Rabia won. She came up with great sounding flavors and seemed like such a nice person, I added the shop to my must try list if I get in the area. I happened to be nearby yesterday so we drove over. Shop is very cute, and the people working friendly and made sure if it was your first time they explained the flavor board and how top is dairy flavors, bottom non dairy. There were many flavors that sounded great and it was hard to choose. Well, luckily you can have an ice cream flight! 6 flavors served in a little purple egg crate looking container! I chose bacon bananas for chocolate, strawberry yum yum which were both on the show, whos the boss, chocolate, dulce de Leche and blackberry mandarin mojito. They were all creamy and delicious. If you are in the area, definitely go. I've eaten a lot of ice cream in my life and this was excellent, totally see why she won. Visited Ruby Scoops for the first time and I enjoyed it! My husband got the strawberry milkshake (7.25) and I got a scoop of the Grasshopper ice cream in a cone (4.25). I thought the cone tasted really good and I loved the ice cream flavor. To me the milkshake was a little pricey, but it was tasty. I'll definitely return! Visited Ruby Scoops on a recent trip to RVA to see family. My cousin told me about a Black, woman-owned ice cream shop in Northside that we just had to try. They were a featured restaurant this year for the Richmond Black Restaurant Experience and it was worth the trip. They are practicing COVID-safety so don't be surprised if you find a line down the sidewalk if you visit. Only one party or group is allowed in the shop at a time. They have hand sanitizer as well, but no public seating. You must go in and order to-go. Service was impeccable. Rabia (the shop's owner) really cares about her customers. She kept going outside to assure waiting customers that she was getting to them and thanking them for their patience. She and another staff member offered us great recommendations, descriptions of the flavors and were super friendly. It's. Cute, bright ice cream shop with interesting art (including a wall of spoons and mural of Rabia). Try two scoops! I recommend the Dulce de leche and the butter cookie (Biscoff inspired)! read more

We have visited this wonderful I've cream/sorbet shop multiple times in the past few months. Each time has been a very positive snd great experience. The owner is always there and this helping her are just as positive and bright as she is. They are very helpful and very engaging. The different flavors will allow anyone to have their choice. Okay it safe or try something new. I almost always end up with a scoop of the mango sorbet. It is SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!! I appreciate that she allows only one person or party in at a time due to COVID. Also, masks have to be worn at all times. I don't mind that it's take out only. We just eat in the car. It does hold up pretty well during travel. She had had a birthday cake flavor with real lives of cake in it. Recently she has featured a Kiwi sorbet. It is soooooooooo delicious!!!! We got a flight to share and it included several seasonal flavors: candy bowl, candy corn, spookies and cream, pumpkin and the one that made Ruby famous--BLACK JOY. Everything was delicious and the six scoops were just right for two people to share. I see other reviewers have complained about the wooden sticks but I found this to be an eco-friendly option and they didn't bother me. The service was very welcoming and very helpful too , I felt right at home . I ordered half dozen scoop . Vanilla, red velvet cake ice cream, tea and lemon aid sherbet , passion fruit and guava . I don't think I can eat ice cream anywhere else ever again...it's that good. I love ice cream - the kind of love that extends lifetimes, and Ruby Scoops is the best ice cream I've ever had. Ruby Scoops has some of the most fun flavors around. I also loved that their were options for people who are vegan/lactose intolerant. It's pretty awesome that their vegan flavors aren't some plain Jane flavors either. My favorite ice cream was the dulce de leche. It was perfect - creamy, but also flavorful. I was a little ice cream jealous because my friends new what was up and got the ice cream flight. I will be back for all of that goodness. We also had great customer service. Black owned business! The two ladies working were direct and nice. They asked us to have our orders ready upon reaching the counter because honey did I mention they were busy. We ordered a flight with about 1 of everything in the dairy section. $10 and we love how affordable it was. Because it was packed we had to leave to eat it. As soon as we stepped in the sun the ice cream was pouring like a waterfall down my husbands arm. While the egg cart packaging is cute it gives 0 stars for practically eating it le sigh. And y'all the popsicle stick they gave us to eat it with was NOT IT. Can you imagine trying to eat melted ice cream with a popsicle stick?? The flavors were on point though. Very refreshing. In my husbands words "good idea, poor execution". So it's too full to eat inside, we parked across the street so we say we'll eat in the car. Totally would've given a 5 star had I been just reviewing the icecream. So let's start with that: all of the flavors are so cool and unique. I got the lemon berry sorbet flavor...super freshing on a scorching summer day! Now to my 1 star customer service experience. I usually wouldn't make a review off of an anecdotal one-off experience, but this actually has to do with the business in general. I entered the shop and no staff person was in sight. I see a bathroom door that states "No Public Reetroom". I go to enter and suddenly I feel a hard tug on the door in the opposite direction followed by "YOU CANT USE THIS" screamed at me in a very crass tone from the staff person (short white guy with dark hair, glasses, and nail polish). He points to the sign and reads loudly "NO PUBLIC RESTROOM". I was literally taken aback by this, and I explained to him that it's fine if I can't use the restroom but, it's standard practice that "no public restroom" refers to people using a restroom who aren't patronizing the business, and I was there as a paying customer. We went back and forth for a good 30 seconds because his tone was so rude and patronizing. Then after he snaps out of it he's like "I didn't mean to come off rude". It didn't come off as rude...it was rude. Poor attitudes and icecream don't go well together :-) As a note to the company, I'd suggest putting a lock on a door that's clearly a restroom but is not welcome for customers to use. But also, if you're any type of food establishment, you should have a restroom for your customers to use a toilet and to be able to wash their hands...it's pretty inconsiderate and unsanitary not to. But I saw why the restroom wasn't open to customers...they store supplies in there!!! That's got to be against some type of sanitation code...ick. After all of this I STILL patronized this black-owned business but I, unfortunately, did not get a photo because I was so distracted by the experience. Came here on recommendation from a local friend. Had no idea of Ruby Scoops' competition wins, but very well-deserved. This was some of the best, creamiest, freshest, most creative ice cream I've ever had. The flight idea to let you sample 6 different kinds of ice cream (or double/triple/whatever up on your favorites) is awesome, and the purple egg crates they use are cute and sturdy. On my visit, i had a combo of strawberry yum yum, mango sorbet, lemon berry sorbet, watermelon sorbet, satsuma creamsicle, and... something else i forget. Service was welcoming. Interior is very cute and unique. They also have cookies and maybe shakes... Many (or all?) of the ice creams do not use dairy milk but an alternative, which is awesome for the environment and lactose intolerant folks. Sorbets are vegan. The area is hip though low-key. I really wanted to try Ruby Scoops, and dragged my trusty foodie sidekick with me. The place is located in the up and coming area of Brookland Park Blvd. in the north side (The area is not too bad, but just be careful). As soon as we opened the door one of the employees yelled out, "Put on a mask!" (We're both vaccinated, but I get it). I couldn't find my mask initially, and asked if they had any disposable, they do and charge $1. I have a problem with businesses charging for masks, especially since they are requesting it, IJS. Also, many of these businesses can request masks for free to distribute to their customers. Anywho, was the start to ruining my experience. Customer Service, Customer Service, Customer Service! I don't think anyone there had any stake in the business (I would hope not), or they would have changed their attitude. When we arrived the place was not busy, however the staff couldn't seem to get their bearings. One of them was rude, and dismissive, so much that someone else took my order! I requested a sample of one of the flavors, and was snapped at as though I asked to borrow money, " WE DON'T DO SAMPLES!" (Don't use COVID as an excuse for being cheap, ijs) I asked details about the ice cream flavors and what differentiates them from others and they couldn't even answer that. Maybe they should stick with the food truck. I should've listened to my son and just left, but I wanted to really try their signature winning ice cream ( I guess I will have to watch the video, to find out why they won). I finally ordered ( my son waited outside) the snicker doodle ice cream sandwich, with banana ice cream. The banana ice cream had chocolate and some other concoctions mixed in. The colors vibrant and decor matches so well with it being an ice cream shop. Service: Everyone was super nice and helpful. Not much interaction. Ice cream: Based on the two flavors I tried, I wasn't blown away. I got the berry sorbet (vegan) and the dulce de leche. Some reason the Sorbet was super powdery in texture and just fell apart. Excellent ice cream, sorbets and service! I found out about this shop on the local news and my grandson accompanied me to try it out. The shop is bright, airy and pleasant. Northside finally has a top notch ice cream shop! Brookland Park Boulevard has been filling up with tons of new small businesses serving this area's growing community, but Ruby Scoops feels like a crown jewel. Owners Rabia and Emmett opened up shop just this past weekend and the line was around the block for hours. When we went on Saturday they had one gluten-free flavor, three (very delicious) vegan choices, and about eight other tasty varieties. They had everything from staples like chocolate and vanilla to more creative offerings like peach crisp and coffee date. You pick your flavor(s) and can go for scoops, a milkshake, or even a float using soda or kombucha. We saw ice cream lovers of all ages in line, and the friendly staff was ready to help anyone. Since we last interacted I have been trying pints of ice cream from the local freezer section which, quick tip, are not nearly as exciting as Ruby Scoop. I don't know why I had never been here, Ruby Scoop had been on my list of scoop shops for some time and I've followed them on Instagram for a while. But, then I saw Rabia on Food Network and was like, "yo family, get up, we need to go here right.now." So off to Richmond we went. Be still my ice cream loving heart. This is the cutest ice cream shop I have ever been to. The spoons on the wall were such a fun touch. It has such a fun atmosphere. My oldest had "Bacon's Bananas for Chocolate", the flavor that won in episode 1 of Ben & Jerry's Clash of the Cones. She said it was "bussin'" and could definitely taste the banana, peanut butter, and brownies (her favorite combination). My youngest had a vanilla shake. I have never.ever.ever seen her drink an entire milkshake so I was amazed when she handed me an empty cup and said, "that was the best milkshake I have ever had." Finally, a milkshake my kid will drink. She said "5/5 would come again." My husband had the Dulce de Leche. I tried some and it was so good. I could have eaten his scoop and mine but I decided to let him have is own. I had the Big Spoon Co. Conut. I love this flavor combination and this ice cream was out of this world. So good, so creamy, the toasted coconut was delicious, the chocolate flecks were awesome, the caramel...perfection. If you are reading this and questioning whether or not you should get a flight of ice cream. The answer yes. Get the flight, live bold. Rabia is also serious about her social distancing. We checked out Ruby Scoops Ice Cream & Sweets today. Why didn't I know about this place? It was delicious. I had the sampler. It was way too much food with lunch, but good thing we have a 16 year old garbage disposal named Adrian at home. My rankings of Ruby Scoops by flavor: 1. Chocolate (probably the best in Richmond. Reminiscent of our trip to Italy) 2. Grapefruit with Tarragon. (Sounds weird, but delicious with beautiful color) 3. Dulce de leche (I'm not a huge fan of any caramel to be honest, but this was delicious) 4. Cookie butter (I think it's called. Super skeptical about this one. My wife thought it was the best. Hard to describe. Little crispies of caramel sugar and butter is what it tasted like) 5. Guava (nice taste great mouth feel) 6. Vanilla (for me, vanilla is normally for pie, but this one was really good. 7. Mixed berry with banana - this would have been much higher because I love a mixed berry, but not huge on banana. 8.
