Ruby Sunshine is a New Orleans brunch inspired restaurant although I've eaten at the one in New Orleans and don't see the correlation or inspiration, the food is good. We were seated immediately and our server came over right away to greet us. The restaurant was clean and spacious and the noise level minimal. I ordered a hot chocolate and for my entree the Gulf Shrimp Omelette with a side of potatoes and a chocolate chip pancake for a $4.25 up charge. The omelette was tasty but the shrimp weren't all the way de-veigned. The potatoes were not good at all, even after adding ketchup. My colleague ordered the same but with egg whites and grits. Overall a decent visit. I've eaten at multiple Ruby Sunshine and Ruby Slipper locations in different cities like New Orleans, Charlotte and Chattanooga. For the price the food is decent but nothing amazing. read more

Ruby Sunshine did not disappoint! Trying to find a parking spot in any city when you are in an RV is always a hassle, but luckily they had plenty of street parking around the restaurant. There was a short wait of about 5mins, which is understandable. I actually thought that it would have been more for a Sunday morning. The restaurant is large, so you shouldn't have to wait that long whatever time you come. Our waitress was very friendly, and constantly checked on us! The wait for our breakfast was a bit on the longer side, but that is ok considering the quality of the food!! We both got the regular pancakes, which were made from scratch (definitely not boxed). They were fluffy and sweet, which is exactly what a good pancake is to us. Their eggs are soft scrambled (in case you like yours hard scrambled), and breakfast potatoes are great as well. If you are in Columbia, this is where you need to come for breakfast. Would come back! read more

The restaurant has some cute decor, artwork and history on the walls. The food and coffee was amazing. We had beginets, coffee, cinnamon swirl pancakes with bacon, breakfast potatoes, and a hot chicken biscuit. All the food had alot of flavor and was seasoned well. I was really surprised how delicious the food tasted! We will most def return in the near future. Customer service was excellent, our waitress was friendly and made sure the hot coffee kept flowing! The only concern, the bathroom was not clean at 7:30am. Made me feel that cleanliness wasnt a priority. Hopefully the manager makes a few changes for the guest. This was the cutest brunch spot in Columbia. My sister and I went the morning of her graduation and it had so many great options. They had a long list of fruity cocktails and coffee drinks, along with endless brunch options. I went with the sweet heat chicken and French toast bites and it was amazing. Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. This time I tried the hot honey chicken biscuit with a side of the breakfast potatoes. I found the meal to be enjoyable. I wouldn't say the flavors completely blew me away. The biscuit itself was good but the chciken lacked flavor in my opinion. The breakfast potatoes also fell flat for me. Our waitress took our order , dropped the food and only came back to hand the bill after we asked for it . Definitely was a slow day only a small hand full of tabled 3-4 total . I am not sure if this is normal or just a bad day . I do not think I can bring myself to come back and retry . Fun staff serving up New Orleans Classics. While the indoor decor was a bit bland, the food and overall dining experience was certainly a memorable ! For my first visit I tried the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. I personally found the waffle to be a bit on the sweet side, but absolutely fell in love with the chicken. The chicken was one of the moistest pieces of meat I've ever had and delicately breaded. The chicken itself was so good that no extra syrup was required. The shrimp and grits were also quite delicious. The creole sauce was lightly spiced and allowed the natural flavors of our SC Adulah grits to shine through. For dessert, we tried the peaches and cream beignet, which was unfortunately a tad bit dry. Arrived and somehow I missed the sign outside that says that you can park behind the building for free. So I paid for parking on the side of the building, not a huge deal. I was greeted by the hostess, who seated me immediately. I got a water and a coffee and ordered the beignets. I had the option of the fruity beignets or the original and since I hadn't had a beignet before, I thought it was best to get the original. They came out hot and delicious! I wasn't expecting to get so many and was super excited about that. If I had to change anything about the beignets, it would be more powdered sugar. It had enough powdered sugar, but I love powdered sugar so I would have added more for myself. I also ordered the Florentine omelette, which was delicious. It had goat cheese in it along with mushrooms. It looks like it was made with two eggs. It was delicious. There is also a homemade biscuit that came with what I think is a sweetened ghee. It tasted delicious, it melted in your mouth. That's all might also came with a small side salad with a vinaigrette dressing, which was really good as well. Not All That Sunny at Ruby Sunshine When our group of three walked in, the experience started off on the wrong foot--no one was at the host stand, and when the hostess finally appeared, there was no greeting or welcome. I told her there were three of us, and without a word she grabbed menus and silverware and walked off, leaving us to trail behind her. Not exactly the warm Southern hospitality we were hoping for. Once seated (after moving tables away from the patio door draft), service became a bit more attentive, but overall it felt inconsistent. For drinks, we ordered water, a cappuccino, and I asked for an Americano. I was told they don't serve that, which was puzzling since an Americano is just espresso with hot water. The confusion grew when I realized that a cappuccino is an espresso-based drink. Another person ordered an espresso. If those are available, it didn't make sense why an Americano wasn't. Food was a mixed bag: Spanish Omelette. Not for me (not a fan of bell peppers). Trifecta (Cochon, Chicken St. Charles, Bayou Shrimp). The Bayou Shrimp stood out as the winner. Biscuits & Gravy Plate. Three biscuits felt like overkill; the scrambled eggs with cheese were dry and clumpy. The Sweet Heat Chicken add-on, however, was excellent--I'd gladly order that again. Banana Pudding Stuffed French Toast. Sweet, rich, and one of the better parts of the meal. Overall, Ruby Sunshine had some bright spots (that Sweet Heat Chicken and the French Toast), but the lack of hospitality and uneven food quality made the visit underwhelming. For the price, I expected more consistency and value--it just didn't feel worth what we paid. Decent, but not one I'd rush back to. read more

Ruby Sunshine is a solid brunch spot. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere gives homey/diner vibes. It's a cozy spot with solid food. I had the Peacemaker which is your choice of any two of the bennie's on their menu. I went with the Eggs Cochon and the Bayou Shrimp. Both were seasoned to perfection and had the poached eggs cooked perfectly. My only complaint is that their biscuits were really dry. I went towards the end of the day so I'll give this a try again closer to the morning hoping that their biscuits would be less dry/stale. read more

Ruby Sunshine is truly a ray of sunshine! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles, cheerful energy, and a clean, cozy atmosphere that felt both charming and inviting. This was my first visit, and when I saw they offered a famous Eggs Benedict sampler featuring their top three versions, I was immediately intrigued. Let me just say--I was completely blown away. The hollandaise sauce was hands down the best I've ever had, and each Benedict was topped with perfectly cooked, flavorful meats. I can honestly say it was the best breakfast--and the best Benedict--I've ever had in my life (and that includes my recent trip to Italy!). I'm giving this 4 stars because the hostess I felt was quite rude. When I asked for an estimate about the wait time I was told "well you just joined the list so...". Having been in a queue a time or two I know how lines work. On to the food. The beignets were interesting as they are not traditional but rather puff pastry squares that are deep fried and then powdered with sugar. Fine but not what I was expecting. The chicken with French toast bites was very very good. The omelette that I ordered was also very good but given the price, I thought the omelette would've been a little bit bigger, but it was a good omelette so I won't complain about the taste. Decided to give this place an another visit .. Last time wasn't pleasurable to say the least lol. But as always this space is set up perfectly DT Columbia with the view of 5 Pts.... I ordered the Chicken St Charles with Hollandaise sauce and house potatoes with a chipotle sour cream .. so this is one time I'm glad I revisited. My meal was cooked perfectly ... The chicken lacked a little seasoning but the hollandaise sauce took care of that ... The poach egg also added a flare for the taste buds. The biscuit was nice and fluffy and not overcooked These house potatoes with the chipotle sour cream is a must get make sure to add cheddar lol ... And my server was amazing from start to finish ..
