Diamond - 5 Stars Jacob - 1 Star After an extra long visit to SC, a friend suggested we hang out before I head back to NYC. We ended up stopping at The Grand around 9/9:30pm on a Saturday. Upon entering the hostess informed us they were currently only serving the late night menu. We said no problem and elected to grab seats at the bar. There were several empty tables and a few empty seats @ the bar. However, the only two seats together at the bar needed to be cleared from the last patrons that were seated. We stood there for over 20 mins while Jacob continued to walk by never acknowledging us or the fact that we couldn't sit. When he finally cleared the dishes he just walked away, never cleaning the area. When he returned he still never greeted us or apologized for the wait, the mess... nothing. Jacob: What are you having? Me: Well hello... Jacob: Yea... what do you want? Me: Wow... ok. For starters can you please whip off the bar so we can properly have a seat. There is still food residue here from the last customers. ** we get a visible huff** He wipes down the bar and we proceed to order drinks, while he never really speak any more it's all via motions and body language. Amongst ourselves we check in with one another to confirm that we both were feeling very unwelcome. Instantly we decide that we will not be ordering anything additional and will be leaving after this one drink. Which is just as well because Jacob never returns. Someone , whom I can only assume was of a mangement status, asked if Jacob was helpful and we promptly and simultaneously said no and that we would like or bill. She shook her head in utter disbelief and disgust but then she also disappeared. Just so happened that Diamond, whom was on the other side of the bar happen to walk pass. She stopped and asked if we were ok after witnessing our frustration. We explained that we wanted the check and why we were leaving. She was super apologetic and closed out our tab. Her energy literal turned the experience around and if she would have came to our rescue sooner we would have considered staying. Thank you Diamond. I actually love the atmosphere, and I think it's a great meet-in-the-middle type of restaurant that has plenty of potential. At one point, when they first opened, I thought they were pretty good. The customer service is always great on the few and far visits that I have returned recently. The food is not terrible, but the quality is not always great. It's like if you just cared a little more and delivered food to the table while the temperature of the food was still warm, it would actually be better. This particular lunch visit, I ordered the catfish nuggets. They were just okay, and for the price, there's no alignment. I would not order those again if I returned. I ordered the chicken sandwich. My chicken breast was fried until the breading was black. It looked like the grease they were frying in was old, or they left the chicken in too long. The replacement they returned was so small it would have been a chicken tender. Its breading also reflected that the grease was old; however, they didn't burn it that time. I just accepted it to move on with lunch. The fries are good as well as the bacon jam. I hope they are able to turn it around and early start to care about what they are serving. read more

Came here on a Friday night with a group of 7. Our intention was to eat and the bowl. There was a live musician that was excellent. Our server: Kayla was decent but seemed new or had too many tables. She was kind but curt and rushed. Not in a rude way just not overly friendly. Food: Delicious! The portion sizes are huge. Get the grits! We came to The Grand to eat dinner for Valentine's Day. Inside is beautiful! Location is great. We parked in a parking garage nearby but they do have valet if needed. Food was okay overall. I loved the cheddar biscuits! The margarita flight was a bit of a waste because the flavors just weren't there. I would get something else next time. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish, but his sides looked a little pitiful for Mac and cheese. I was glad I didn't order it. I got the large Caesar salad and would get something else next time because it was a bit underwhelming. Our service was absolutely amazing and the food and drinks came out SO fast! I would love to go back and maybe try the Alfredo pasta or the salmon. Their menu really has a lot of great options. We bowled after dinner and that was AWESOME! Omg! First time and did takeout. Got the half chicken, and let me tell you! Seasoned to the bone, nice char. And JUICY. The half bird comes with some delicious whipped potatoes. So creamy and light, and come collards. They were good, had a nice flavor with that right amount of acid. I would have like to have some more smoke flavor in the greens. We decided to celebrate Thanksgiving at The Grand on Main. None of the three of us had been there and the only thing I knew about the restaurant was that they have bowling lanes. John had made a reservation and we were seated quickly. The decor was lovely-sort of an upscale cocktail lounge feel and look. Our server approached bringing the Thanksgiving meal options menus. The options were Turkey or ham with side dishes of collards, sweet potato casserole, cornbread dressing, or mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious-the turkey breast perfectly moist and tender, the collards were the best I ever tasted and the sweet potato casserole perfectly seasoned and not too sweet. All portions very ample. Service was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. For the quality of the food and the ample portions I felt the meal very reasonably priced. The last time I came, we just bowled and had wings. This time I'm with my daughter. The pasta and loaded fries are good. The biscuits are mid. They are not very busy but the atmosphere is very nice. The gentleman (Shi) was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. They have really cool robots who deliver the food to your table. The Grand really exceeded my expectations for brunch!! Not to be skeptical, but I did not have high expectations for this place. It seemed there was way too many things going on to be really good at each thing. I was looking for a fun brunch place with drink options and found The Grand, but wasn't sure since they had such a wide variety menu and also offered bowling and a tiki bar. However, the food was delicious and the service was GREAT! We arrived just 10min after they opened so we had the place almost to ourselves. Our server was wonderful and attentive and made sure we were taken care of every step of the way. My husband and I split the cinnamon toast waffle and the bacon omelet. The waffle was perfectly delicious and not as overly sweet as one would think. The omelet was light and fluffy and full of bacon (even though I do wish it had a few more veggies because they were cooked perfectly). We also ordered the bubbles bottle to share so it came with a bottle of sparkling wine and a little carafe of your choice of juice! Of course it's cheap sparkling wine, but for $21 it was fun and just what we needed with Saturday brunch! The space is HUGE and perfect for large parties! We didn't get a chance to do bowling, but it looked super fun and definitely would be a great date night or night out with friends. Came here a while back and I was very happy! The food was amazing I got chicken and mash potatoes with waffle fries. The restaurant is multi-faceted with a mixed menu of mostly American food and the restaurant itself is not like something I've seen before. After walking around Soda City Market, we decided to grab lunch here since it was in the same area. It was a very interesting experience. We had first asked to sit on the back patio, and the hostess seemed a little hesitant. We asked again if it was open and okay to sit out there, and she sullenly replies, " Yeah, but then I'll have to go out there and clean it off with the pollen and stuff. " Since she wasn't enthused with prepping that area, we decided to dine inside. We were seated by the windows overlooking the outside happenings. Circular shaped and comfortable seating. Our server, Alston, pleasantly greeted us and got us started with a margerita and some water. We placed our order when he returned and sat and talked while we waited for it to be prepared. From our seats, we could see the doorway to the kitchen and started noticing a lot of movement happening. Much time passed, and Alston came back over to inform us that we would not be able to get what we had ordered because there were issues with the cooker in the kitchen. At that moment the doors came open and we could see that something was wrong. We would have to order sandwiches or salads, not what we were in the mood for at all. He was called away for a few minutes and returned to tell us that it looked like they were getting everything back in working order. He gave us a tray of their biscuits due to our wait and not too long after we were served our original order. We had to wait for a while, but it was not of any fault of the people who worked there. Things happen, and you have to monitor and adjust. They handled the situation well without making it obvious to the customers. They used a nice amount of liquor in the drinks so you definitely get your money's worth. Before I begin, this review is mainly about where we were seated. My friend made a reservation for 6pm. I walked in at 5:55. She was parking and walked in a few minutes behind me. The front staff were going to take me to the table and my friend was walking in. I grabbed her attention and she followed us to the table. This was my first time here and the establishment is really nice. It was packed so I didn't take many photos. Ok, so here is where the three stars come in. We were seated back in the room to the right pass the bar. There were already two groups of people in this area. One was a group of ladies and the other was a larger party. Our waitress introduces herself and offers to take our drink choices. Then she says she can do our meal as well and everything will come out at different times. So we order cheddar biscuits, zucchini fries, Brussel sprouts, she gets the broasted chicken and I get the shrimp platter. The early mentioned items were appetizers and the latter were for dinner. Oh, I asked for water with no lemon or ice. Our waters (mine with ice) arrive, our beverages, and our appetizers and dinner all come out fairly quickly on the motorized waiter (which was pretty cool). But why all together when you told us it would come separate. Ok, we dive in. My shrimp platter was a few shrimp oh and I got the baby bella garlic mushrooms. The shrimp and the mushrooms were great. I assumed with the word platter, there would've been more shrimp. The broasted chicken had a smear of bbq sauce on the plate so my friend asked the waiter for more and she never brought it back. I went to get it from another person. She said the chicken was bland so the sauce was needed. Ok, to the other part of the three stars....the larger group, they were so damn loud! Well, not all of them but like one or two ladies with that group. I mean the lady was almost yelling in the screechy type voice and laughed so loud. My friend and I couldn't hear each other talk sitting next to each other. It was horrible! Our waitress apologized but no one told them or her to kinda keep it down. It was so annoying! Once we were done, the waitress apologized about forgetting the sauce. We paid her and then she kept forgetting our receipts. I will return but will try a weekday and see what it's like. There were a few people having parties in there but this lady was over the top. It made it extremely hard to enjoy our dinner. I would give a zero star review for this place if possible. We went there while on vacation. We were seated and waited over thirty minutes for a waiter to take our drink order. There was nearly no one dining at this time. We had to go ask someone to get us a waiter. Then we watched him go wait on a table who arrived after us then come to take our order. He was nice but severely screwed up our order which we were not able to get until nearly an hour after we arrived. Our drinks had no ice- they had melted bc of the time it took to get to us. He brought out chicken tacos instead of shrimp. By the time we left it had been over two hours that we had spent there. Ridiculous! I now know we will not be dining there in the future. No manager approached us about these issues and no comped dinner. This restaurant seriously needs to improve in customer service. read more

Didn't realize that you couldn't get the regular menu during brunch time. That was a little disappointing. The food we got was pretty good. Negative#1.Our server was a little bit slow. We had to repeatedly ask for our drinks to be refilled. Negative #2 when they bring you the bill, they check you out on this little personal machine that they hand to you and stare at you while you complete the transaction. The atmosphere was nice and the place was slightly crowded considering Duke and UNC were playing and that was the reason why I was truly there. I got a sidecar, two of them, and I ordered a burger with the Beyond Burger Patty and a side of fries. It was pretty good considering I was starving and my cravings were met. I went here for brunch with family. Gabby was our waitress. She was very pleasant. The ambiance was very nice, cozy, intimate with low lighting (where we sat)-- which I loved. I ordered the buttermilk waffle and it was AMAZING. A slight crunch around the edges but soft otherwise. I also had she pimento cheese grits which wasn't bad. I wish there was a bit more cheese. The grits has a coarser texture. I also had a French 75 --it was okay. The restaurant has robots that carry the food from the kitchen to the table, I thought this was very cool & modern. My friend and I decided to come him solely because they offer mimosa flights. I ordered the ultimate bacon omelette. It was filled with plenty of bacon and fresh vegetables. I was not a big fan on the grits though, the texture was off and a little too tangy for my liking. My friend ordered the smoked pork breakfast. She said it was just okay and something she felt like she could make at home. There is a nice ambiance and I enjoyed that they offered live music during brunch. We arrived for birthday party....for 8 adults. This a multi dimensional establishment. It's a restaurant a bar entertainment complex. We were seated at a round table/booth near the end of the bar and across from a kitchen entrance. Five of us sat in the booth section and three were sat with chairs. Those of us in chairs were exposed to multiple patrons and staff members walking by us constantly. I knew this was not going to be a good situation. When things didn't start off correctly when they had a difficult time acquiring our drink orders and subsequently only getting half of them correct. I actually ended up going to the bar myself to get my own drink as they forgot mine initially. Two of the other patrons ordered Moscow mule type drinks which were served in a cocktail glass versus the traditional copper cup. Well they would have overlooked the untraditional container the drink was not made correctly.... Even after sending it back. Appetizers an order of calamari a charcuterie board and biscuits. While I did not place this order.. . I did not try any of the biscuits, The calamari was okay standard bar fair. The charcuterie board and two meat selections a couple of cheeses crackers grapes a mustard and a jelly-- again I suppose it was okay for this restaurant.. So we noticed while being in the restaurant that they had two robotic servers. While they are cute and are able to bring approximately 8 plates to a group, they are unaccompanied by a server . In my opinion I felt that any other patron could have removed a portion of the food on these plates or an entire order. When the robotic server came to our table there was NO accompanying human waiter . So I ended up standing up and removing our dinner entrees and serving them to our party myself. Ultimately, I feel that the robotic servers are more of a gimmick and a nuisance rather than an improvement in service. (Again at the right restaurant these might work out appropriately) As regards to the food--- I tried to keep it simple and had some shrimp tacos which were okay but we're a little too saucy along with a heavy mayonnaise based coleslaw. Two in my party received a spinach salad with chicken which looked okay. Another order to steak but to his dismay they had no steak sauce to accompany this. The burger which was ordered by another looked okay as he devoured it. And a salmon entree went over well with mashed potatoes and collard greens.. I had a hard time asking people how their food was because they couldn't hear me without shouting at them. So they have a quieter area downstairs where you can get cocktails coffee and desserts. We moved down there for this portion of the meal. And while it was less chaotic unless noisy; unfortunately I have to report that they were out of many of the desserts and a handful of beverages that we were interested in ordering. So why the two stars maybe.... Maybe two and a half stars for the food... As I considered it average. And a one star for the chaotic atmosphere. This is not the place to go to have a quiet meal as I felt we all had to be aware of our surroundings so as not to be run over by a fellow patron, Wait staff or robot Additionally we had to keep a close eye on what we ordered. I made reservations on open table and showed up on time but for some reason our table wasn't ready and the host at the front ended up leaving before getting us seated. Surprisingly the pimento grits weren't bad but I would not recommend, the collards were pretty good. I don't recommend the ribs. The soup; chicken and dumplings was packed with flavor and so tasty.
