We were greeted on arrival and seated as soon as all of our party arrived for our reservation. It has a decent parking lot and a diner type feel. The menu has a decent amount of options for brunch and a kids menu. Unfortunately we were never assigned so we had to ask for a server and even though she was very nice, we had to request our drinks from the bar more than once as I think we were not part of her original tables to cover. The flight from the bar arrived 49 minutes after it was originally ordered. The food was good but it was breakfast. The Benedicts were good, the omelets were good. The grits were well cooked. The burger was very dry The kitchen staff outside spoke about how overpriced the food was for what they were preparing and that did make me laugh as we we just talking about Waffle House breakfast since a new one had opened up in our neck of the woods. The irritation for me was the larger party that was seated behind us got their drinks and meals before our table did. I would skip the mimosa flight and definitely recommend the Benedicts and the bananas foster French toast. read more

Honestly the food was not what I expected. Between my friends and I three of us ordered the breakfast potatoes and they all came cold. For some reason one of the orders was just burnt crispy pieces with barely any actual potato to them. The Irish coffee and the iced Irish coffee tasted terrible. So with this being a New Orleans style brunch restaurant my expectations were pretty high. I will say the entrees were the star from everything we ordered today, but there were definitely many things that need improvement. We did the call ahead seating and it stated 30 minutes. However after arriving 20 minutes after call ahead, we waited another hour to be seated. Also to be told we were next to be seated, but was advised I was told incorrectly by the hostess when 3 other parties were seated before us. When we were seated, we were advised the bar was a little behind, however when we received our cocktails, neither of them were "dressed" as described by the menu. The hurricane definitely left a lot to be desired by someone that was obsessed with them in NOLA. It tasted very watered down and almost a batch cocktail. I also wouldn't call the appetizer we ordered a "beignet" when they were heavy and very doughy. They were redeemed by the entrees, I will say. My husband said the shrimp and grits were very much New Orleans with the flavor of the Tasso Gravy. Also, my southern breakfast was delightful with the goat cheese grits and fried green tomatoes. Also do not forget their tasty biscuits with sorghum butter. So all in all, there is some improvement needed but a good start to a new brunch spot in Five Points. read more

Just 2 veterans looking for brunch on Veterans Day. We were actually heading somewhere else but it was packed and as we drove, we saw this new place. We stopped on over and got on the waitlist that was roughly 25 minutes and we were seated. This place is a play on my favorite brunch spot back home in New Orleans called "Ruby Slipper". I think it just opened or reopened but the wait for our food was about 45-50 minutes and although we were seated before the people next to us, they got their food before us and we ordered nearly the same stuff. I will say the food was very good and there were no complaints on it, we did have to chase down another waitress to get straws for our drinks after ours disappeared. All in all it seems like it can be a good spot once the little kinks are figured out but I'd go back and try it once more to see if the little improvements were fixed. This is my first time here. The atmosphere was nice. I sat at the bar. The guy handed me a menu without even speaking. I chalked it up to them being very busy. After placing my drink order, no one checked to see if I wanted anything else. I got my food over an hour later. Thank goodness for the parking app because I only paid for an hour. All of my food didn't come out but they didn't know because again no one asked if everything was good with the order. The food was pretty tasty though. I might try it one more time but I'm not sure yet. read more

I desperately want to love this little New Orleans charmer, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. My first visit was opening day and I've been back two more times (in fact, I'm patiently waiting here for my food after a 75 minute wait). Except for the spicy chicken and waffles, the regular menu food is good at best. Nothing that the local Waffle House or IHOP can't match. Seasonal specials keep me returning. The service ruins any experience here. Hostesses spend a great deal of time chatting and seating people they know (despite the entire party not in attendance). With consistently long lines out of the door, it is frustrating to patrons who have been on an extensive waitlist online, then to be further shuffled aside for a party of 8, when only one person has arrived. Typically, eating at a bar provides a unique and more intimate setting of a restaurant, not here. The couple sat next to me last time was totally forgotten about and didn't receive their appetizers until long after I had begun my entrée. (We ordered at the same time). During that visit, the bartender never asked us if we wanted to order more food or beverages- his loss, because we were child free and ready to drink. Having worked in the industry for many years, I recognize that there is a period of time required to iron out issues regarding menus and service, but these should be rectified by now. Hopefully they can improve, otherwise there will be many more ratings such as this one hitting Yelp, Google, and more. Update: My party received their food, and my seasonal eggs benedict were cold and the poached eggs were completely cooked through. Be sure to sign in online and know the bar is first come first serve, so sit there if you don't want to have a longer wait. When I checked in at 11:35 online the wait was 1 hr 45 min- 2 hours 15 min. We ended up checking in and still had a wait at the 2 hour mark so we sat at the bar. The server/bartender was fine. I asked for suggestions and he made suggestions. He was quick with refills once we asked for them. Ordinary service. We ordered the beignets and they were subpar. Just small squares of fried dough with a dusting of powder sugar on the top 2-3, no flavor, nothing noteworthy. The ones on the bottom had no powder sugar. If you have ever had New Orleans beignets and then you ate these you would be extremely disappointed. They are not soft, Pillowy, and fluffy.... They were flat and on the hard side. I had the shrimp and grits which was straight up soup. Grits were runny like soup and the sauce was soupy with a few small shrimp tossed in. I didn't get a spoon to eat it with, had to ask for one, but I really could have drank it with a straw. Since we were there 1.5 hours before they closed I wonder if they just gave me the soup that was left over. The flavor was nice so I would be willing to order again just to see if it thickens up. My fiancé ordered the shrimp omelet and he said it was okay; nothing to brag about. I got the flight of mimosa's, attempting to decide which one I like the best. I feel like they were about 4 ounces each for 5 tiny glasses. Price was $20, but It was a great we to sample the different flavors. I hope to come again and try the bennies because these did look for good at another order at the bar. This wouldn't be my fist pick for brunch in columbia because we have much better food options like dipratos, another broken eggs, the gourmet shop, the original pancake house on forest drive, and cafe strudel in west columbia. Total bill for 1 regular coffee, 1 ice coffee, 1 flight of mimosas, 1 order of maybe 5-6 small beignets, 1 shrimp and grit, and one shrimp omelet was 73.82. I expected much more from this restaurant, especially because it has been so hyped. A group of friends and I went on Sunday and the wait was about an hour, which was expected. The restaurant is extremely small, so it isn't fit to accommodate groups. We ordered a variety of food, and it was pretty disappointing across the board. The french toast bites were burnt, and they were closer to croutons than anything. My home fries were undercooked and had no seasoning. The most disappointing part was the french toast. It was supposed to be brioche, but it was clearly regular white bread. There was no vanilla or cinnamon, and I couldn't tell if it was dipped in a batter. The staff were very kind. read more

Food was fantastic, I ordered the chicken Saint Charles and it was perfection. Ambiance was warm and inviting. Our experience was subpar. I joined the digital waitlist and 2 hrs later we were still not seated. I believe we had waited more than 2.5 hrs before getting a table, at least an hr of that time we were waiting on-site, after checking in with the hostess. We were a party of 6 so I knew seating would be difficult. We were only given 3 menus and no eating utensils/napkins. A different person than our waitress delivered the food to our table. Two of our party did not get their meals until about 20 minutes later than the others. Items were missing from 2 of the other orders (side of included French Fries, a side order of Fried Chicken). We had to wave down a passing staffer for napkins and utensils; there were still none provided even after food arrived. My meal - spicy chicken with grits and Brussels sprouts- tasted good. However, portion size was small. My entree had maybe 3 sprouts and 2 small pieces of chicken. An $8 side order of tater tots consisted of maybe 6 tots! Hub's chicken and waffle bites were dry, no sauce or syrup was provided, and was paltry. Gratuity for our party size was auto-defaulted to 20%. We very much wanted to reduce it, but did not. The waitress stood over him with the credit card machine, which was uncomfortable. We are generally good tippers, but our waitress was definitely not worthy of 20%. Overall, I would not choose to return. The vibe was not warm and welcoming. Service was blah. All the staffers seemed rushed and harried. The wait was an hour and 15 minutes but my son and daughter in law went before us to get our wait in line while we got out of church. The wait was worth it - we all said we would be back. We ordered a mixture of their "Bennies", the biscuits and gravy breakfast, and some got the pancakes. All was very good and worth the wait. We got here on a Sunday morning around 9:45 and were seated easily. However, the rush hit exactly around 10am. I ordered the Biscuits and gravy + add Sweet Heat fried chicken. The biscuits and gravy ( apologize for the huge bite that my wife chomped out of it before I could even unfold my silverware) were great. The sweet Heat chicken was fried to a T and had the perfect combination of sweet and spice, almost like a honey hot. I also ordered the Bloody Mary which was very good as well. Decent atmosphere. Alcoholic drinks are rather expensive except for the canned beers. Even a mimosa costs $10+. The menu is nice and eclectic. I had the mix and match Bennies and one of my Bennies came out cold. They happily replaced it. The food was flavorful but one of my biscuits had a freezer taste. Was told the wait is 1hour. It ended taking 2 hours. We were pissed by the time we were seated. I think I know the problem. Group A party of 4 arrives. Then 30 mins later Group B party of 4. You think party A always gets seated first. Nope. What happens here is they link party A to a table that is being currently used and party B is liked to another table. If the table linked party B leaves first. Party B gets seated first. How do I know? Maitre d told me. So because my assigned table had folks taking their time, literally dozens of parties who came after me get seated first. It's a joke. Maitre d was also responsible for bussing tables? Maybe another reason wait times are ridiculous. Maitre d was quite salty. Probably over worked. That said. Once seated. Our server Alona was fantastic- bubbly, energetic, funny. Food was generally really good. Appetizers of Candied bacon and beignets were just ok but fried green tomatoes were aces. Our group ordered four entrees. Catfish n grits, breakfast taco, southern breakfast and three piggies omelet were all really good. Biscuits were pretty good. The sweet butter that came w the biscuits were amazing. Side of pancakes were excellent- a bit sweeter than a typical pancake. Mimosa flight and ruby mimosa were just ok. Enjoyable once seated. But getting a seat requires a tremendous amount of patience.
