The food at Ruby Sunshine is average. I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich and it was good but not great. However, I did appreciate that my egg was cooked over medium as requested. The host and waiter were also very friendly. My biggest concern was their restroom situation. My group and I were seated upstairs and the back of the restaurant had two doors with restroom signs on them. Once I actually got to the back, the area looked like it was part of the kitchen and there was an Employees Only sign. I was informed the bathrooms are actually downstairs. There were three people ahead of me and we were cramped in a tight hallway with servers traveling back and forth with trays of hot food and dirty dishes. Not an ideal restroom location. Overall, Ruby Sunshine is an ok place to stop for brunch. Our wait time was about 30mins at 11:30am on a Saturday. read more

We went in for brunch and were told it would be 45 mins. So the 4 of us just opted to sit at the bar. It was definitely a busy time so plan accordingly as they fill up the tables and patio as well. We decided on an omelet and since the crab benedict was sold out my lady decided on the fried chicken Benedict. We thought the food was solid and fairly priced. I can see why they stay busy. The food was quite delicious, and they even gave us a small cake to share for the birthday. My group of six dined at Ruby Sunshine on a Saturday for brunch. We got on the waitlist via Yelp and by the time that we did, there was a 30-minute or so wait. Once it was our turn, we checked in with the host and were seated promptly in a large booth. We ordered a variety of items. I got to try the following: White chocolate bread pudding pancakes $12 Gulf shrimp omelet $13 Creamy vanilla iced coffee $5 My son and I shared the bread pudding pancakes and the omelet. I love having something sweet for breakfast and the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes fit the bill. It was rich, but not too heavy and perfectly sweet! Highly recommend it for anyone with a big sweet tooth like mine! I also like to have something savory on the side. The gulf shrimp omelet was a decent size and came loaded with shrimp. Between that and the pancakes, my son and I were very satisfied. The coffee was great, not too sweet. No complaints from my group. Everyone was satisfied with their orders. We had high hopes for this based on other reviews. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. Our server forgot to take our order and then we waited 40 minutes for it to come. People who sat down after us got their food before us. We had to ask for refills (which weren't given to us and then we had to remind him again after he gave refills to a different table) and weren't checked on at all. If you want beignets similar to those you get in New Orleans, don't get them here. They were pretty thin and not super flavorful. The omelet barely had any filling in it. I paid for ham and got two pieces. The biscuit was terrible and we love all biscuits so that says a lot. The Migas was good at least, good flavor and the chorizo has good flavor. Super disappointing, especially after waiting so long for our food. They even took 25% off because the experience was such a mess. While that was appreciated, it didn't make up for the horrible experience. read more

The southern breakfast couldn't have been better. We were told the wait was 1.5 hours and when we returned were advised we were #20 on the list. So I did what any hungry person would and ordered at the bar. Less than 5 minutes later I received notification that my food was ready. I asked to sit at a table and they allowed it. GREAT SERVICE! Took 1 hour and 45 minutes for an appetizer and two plates for two people...with half the crowd to capacity and during a weekday before lunch. Pancakes brought without syrup and sides were wrong. Had to ask for two different folks to come and resolve it all. Didn't wait around for a manger - just wanted to go. Faves - cinnamon swirl pancakes (enjoyed watching the Yelp event on how to make these) - Benedict trio - bacon - iced or hot coffees are always good I did appreciate not having to handle a menu and the protocols in place to keep safety inside. Food was incredibly bland and overpriced. I ordered the breakfast tacos because they sounded so flavorful. They ended up being dry and bland. I had to put hot sauce on them because I couldn't taste or see the pico de gallo, pepper jack, chipotle sour cream, or avocado. It was basically just eggs with a negligible amount of the other ingredients. Saddest breakfast tacos ever! My hubby's breakfast sandwich was really light on ingredients and bland as well. We came here for breakfast and had Andrew as our amazing waiter. He was super friendly and took the time to explain what was on the menu and came to check on us and refilled our coffee often. We had two dogs with us and we liked the fact there was patio seating area that was dog friendly. The menu had a wide selection of brunch and breakfast foods. We ordered the salmon avacado toast, the Spanish omelet, the southern breakfast and an order of the seasonal beignets. We loved the avacado toast. The Spanish omelet was good and so was the southern breakfast. I would do a hard pass on their beignets. First, their beignets were incredibly hard as though it had been over fried. Second these are not the typical beignets that are square like, light and fluffy. They were round and cake like almost like a fried donut ball. The sauce was overly sweet and for $7 you only get 3 small peices. I wish I would have know this before I ordered it. Our server was kind enough to take it off our bill. We went to Ruby Sunshine on a Saturday morning around 8:30am. We waited less than ten minutes for an outside table. You can give the host your cell number and they text you when your table is ready, which would be helpful with longer wait times. The outside patio is nice and cool in the shade. Our server was friendly and fast, especially for a busy weekend morning. The Farmer's Market was happening so there was constant foot traffic but we did not feel crowded or too close to the sidewalk. If anything, it made for interesting people watching. My Breakfast Sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese was fresh and delicious. It was not heavy or greasy. The grits were tasty, too. It was a nice serving size for breakfast. I didn't feel overly stuffed. My friend enjoyed her Eggs Cochon and I enjoyed sneaking a few pieces of her Apple-braised pork debris, because yum. Food- I'm a huge grits and shrimp fan. I also live in the North, that being said, the large chunks of pork fat in my grits didn't go over well with me. The sauce was not appetizing either, the shrimp were rubbery. The Chef needs to collaborate with the Chef at Sabrina's Cafe in Collingswood, New Jersey on how to make the grits creamy and upscale the ingredients. They were quite nasty. No stars. The Waitress was nice relatable and friendly, 3 stars for service. The general ambiance I like, however two employees, were dishing the dirt in their conversation with one another about another employee, this took away from the ambiance to me. One thing that was a bit annoying is that they don't provide you with everything you need and you have to keep catching the waitress. Dry toast, had to ask for butter and jelly. Coffee with no cream and sugar. Pancakes with less than an ounce of syrup. I asked for 3 or 4 more and got 2. Had to ask for even more. Biscuit with no butter or jelly. They were super busy so it was kind of hard to catch the waitress. After a.while we sort of felt like pests. I will return for the food. It was awesomely good. read more

On a road trip back to Chicago, Knoxville was on the way. After a good ol Yelp search, Ruby Sunshine seemed like a cute spot for us to stop at. I was a little worried about the menu options since I'm celiac but knew I'd probably find something. It's located in such a nice spot with lots of different shops around. We were there pretty early in the day so Ruby Sunshine was one of the only spots open. I'm not sure if it was the weather but the whole thing seemed perfect, especially the nice corner location. Now, our waiter Evan, best human ever. His energy throughout our whole time there was wonderful & I want to be his best friend now. He would remember the little things (in terms of preferences, like lemons, even in my to go water) & was very adamant about us getting what we wanted. I didn't feel anxious when ordering w him & asking questions, which is a big win for me. Now, the food. After picking the avocado toast (which still sounds so good & i'll have to be back for) I found out they have a whole gluten-free friendly menu. I should've asked in the beginning but seeing the french toast was definitely a game changer for me. I'm not sure how many years it's been since I was able to have french toast but this gluten free one was to die for. The butter, the texture, the perfect amount of cooked, not soggy, not crumby, absolutely yum. I also tried the Ruby Margarita which was good. Im a pretty big fan of pomegranate & feel a bit more of it would spice it up (& have it live up to its name.) The overall experience was great. No red flags, nothing negative to even say, because even the bathrooms were clean, lol. Each employee we encountered was kind & didn't seem too stressed. Although we did not speak to him, the manager seemed very kind, it was nice to see him jump in to help clean so that there was room outside for the next guests. Five star breakfast this morning with my wife. We got on line in with the Yelp app so when we arrived, we had absolutely no wait for our table. It was awesome. Walk in and we were immediately brought to a lovely table upstairs by the window. Service from our waitress was great, too. Lots of coffee, lots of smiles, lots of attention when needed. My wife chose the French toast with strawberries and they remembered not to dust it with powdered sugar. There were enough strawberries and the French toast was perfect. I was allowed to have a small corner. For my breakfast, I had the smoked salmon omelet. Very nicely loaded with salmon and cream cheese, topped with a few chopped red onions and capers. Almost like having a salmon bagel without the carbs. Yeah, I had a small taste of the biscuit that was excellent and I handed over the cheese grits to my wife who enjoyed them. I had been to the old Gatlinburg location which had unfortunately closed. I was so excited to see that they had a convenient Knoxville location. Parking was very convenient at the Market Square garage and we were able to easily get on the waitlist ahead of time. Our service was very efficient and friendly. She assisted us by letting us know that the kids can eat free with an adult entree purchase. I love the decor in the building but wanted to sit outside and people watch as it was the same day as a comic con going on down the street. Our food was amazing!
