We were on our way back from yet another trip to Ocean Park and wanted something simple but satisfying. Ruby's came up on Yelp with some good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot going in as I figured it was just another greasy spoon burger joint. However, I was pleasantly surprised when we got in - picnic table style seating with rollup doors (seems like the building might have been an auto shop in a previous life?) probably make for a really nice dining experience during the summer. I like the pseudo-retro decor too. Nice. Service was simple and friendly. We ordered at the register and then sat down to wait for them to call our name. Somehow, they got my name wrong, but seeing as how we were one of only two groups in the restaurant, it was pretty easy to determine they had our order ready. The main offerings are burgers, and they are pretty darn good. I got the mushroom and swiss, and it was cooked just right. The patty was juicy, but not drippy, and the mushrooms and cheese and onions were super tasty. Fries were also good with just the right crunch and not burned, undercooked, or soggy. Oh, before I forget! They have EV charging! I totally missed it when we pulled in (in our new EV) and I was kicking myself when I saw it when we were leaving. Definitely going to take advantage of the charger (don't know if it's free or pay) next time. We will return to Ruby's. :) read more

Excellent service! The loaded fries were more of a mix of pasta sauce and black beans over the fries. They were ok. Wouldn't order them again. If you're in town looking for traditional food for kids this a good place that offers plain cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. read more

A 4 star burger place that is clean, has good counter service, and nice menu selection of good salads, soup, burgers, hot dogs, beverages, etc. I like their blue cheese burger with bacon. The staff is friendly and when you are able to sit outside, it makes it more rustic/ambiance. Other than that, it's just flat. Chili and cheese fries were the best of the 3, but there was very little to no super small shreds of cheese. The side salad was good, but the ranch was so watered down to a runny drip that didn't cover 1/2 the salad. Good food choices. Friendly folks. Attention to detail sometimes lacking. Not too difficult to check what the order asked for...like tonight... I was second person to order their prime rib dinner. Two people took the order at the counter. I asked for well done and only butter on the baked potato. When it arrived, not well done and no butter for the potato. I asked for horseradish sauce before the meal was served and got two sour cream packets. Glad I didn't leave a tip. Not a good follow through effort and no apology either time I had to go back. Better to pick up the order at the counter than having someone bring it out to the table. Would have noticed the oversights at once. I love this place so much. It's a great little spot. My husband loves the beer and it's got a cute vibe to it. And although I don't eat beef or pork they never have an issue removing the bacon from the chicken sand which I get. The southwest chicken burger is amazing. Ambiance and facilities are nice. Family friendly menu. Had the fish and chips, unoffensive, decent fish, but fish shape and breading seemed like frozen prebreaded stuff from the store. Fries were crispy. The bright spot was the tartar sauce, it was different, slightly sweet, worth trying. The crab and corn chowder is a meh. It was surprisingly spicy, and not worth trying nor worth $13.50 a bowl, not recommended. Caesar salad was nothing special, added chicken to the salad. Wrong move, precooked and cold chicken, taste was unoffensive but really? How hard is it to slap a chicken breast on a grill and slice fresh? Also, it is self serve everything at the counter, why tip your "waitress". That said, if you have a family with varying tastes, they have you covered, just dont expect made to order, this is "lazy cooking" kind of place. read more

We ordered the Cabo and Seasider basket. Both burgers were great but the fries were pretty bad. Loved the outdoor seating and it has a little trail you can explore after your meal. I will definitely be back but I will definitely not order the fries. read more

We stopped in on a Friday evening in December, and were able to walk right to the order counter. I got the special, the "Cheddar Burger", which was a burger patty on toasted sourdough bread, with grilled onions and cheddar cheese (served with fries). First and foremost, the burger was juicy and delicious, and I would rate it highly -- but maybe not quite "best burger on the planet", as they claim. So why only 4 stars? The French fries were underwhelming. They were a large crinkle cut fry, and really were not very crispy on the exterior, and the interior ended up a little pasty. It's almost 2020. Ditch the crinkle cut. My wife got the Hawaiian, which included pineapple, teriyaki sauce, and Canadian bacon. She thought it was delicious, but very messy. The burger was good enough that I was just looking at the menu thinking about what I would order next time. Highly recommended, even though the fries aren't my favorite. read more

My wife and I stop by on a Saturday night and had the prime rib sandwich and smashed potatoes which is not normally on the menu but it was absolutely amazing! There's a huge fire pit outside which is incredibly warm and inviting. This place was turned into a restaurant from an old gas station and is charming and trendy. Decent food but rude service. When my boyfriend asked for a milkshake - they said they didn't have any more ice cream and couldn't make anymore. The two kids behind us then asked for milkshakes and got them. Our friend went over to see if he could get a milkshake later on - they made it for him - he asked for another one so my boyfriend can get one too. when our friend got his shakes the staff that made them said to him "this is the last one I'm making today." I understand that it's tough being in the food service industry these days. We waited 40 minutes plus for our food and didn't mind that. Tasty, and to the point. No back flips here, unless you bring your dog and he can do back flips because dogs are allowed!! On the patio, of course, but it works for us crazy dog people. Honestly, I didn't expect a lot so maybe that's why I was blown away... but it was literally one of the best burgers I have ever had. We had the bacon wrapped burger and subed cheddar for Swiss cheese. Fries were also delicious. Crispy and hot. I'd eat her again in a heart beat. This isn't a gourmet restaurant burger, you can't order it medium or rare. I'd compare it to like a Red Robin or Killer Burger... that being said... it's definitely better than both of those.
