The clam chowder was really good. It didn't taste "fishy" at all and was just what I was craving. I also tried the pineapple burger which I have never tried before, and it was amazing. Great spot to come for a quick lunch in cannon beach! I loved coming here mid day to get a hearty meal, the service is quick and the location has indoor and outdoor seating. It is a large space so there is plenty of tables. We got seated but I nice window for natural sunlight and a quieter area which was nice. They have small table games to play while you are waiting for your food. The clam chowder is claimed to be the best here! It is a large portion and has a good flavor. The burger was nicely cooked and the house sauce was a really good compliment plus the fries were filling. The food here is great and I'd recommend having a good lunch here. read more

Oof. Really disappointed, but then again, one shouldn't go to a brewery for the food. But being seated, we seemed to be a bother. It wasn't even that late. Maybe the dude wasn't the host, and he was miffed. I don't know. The beer menu was already wet - gross - just run some more off on the color printer in the office. the waiter seemed like he didn't want to be there. Did we come right before closing? I don't think so. The place was half full on a Wednesday night. Whatever. I ordered the clam chowder - nothing special - tasted like a Sysco Foods item that hadn't gotten extra time and attention (worked in restaurants - base is fine as long as you add spices and more clams, etc, make it your own), 4 oyster shots were good, husbands tri tip Sammie was ...fine. One sons "pizza" was pretty good! A good balance of toppings on it, the Marguerita flatbread - but the other son's flatbread was completely inedible. It was supposed to be tri tip and mushrooms but came out as a solid blob of melted cheese, as if they ran out of toppings and just added more cheese. It congealed almost immediately, like biting into a handful f microwaved cheese - he couldn't eat it - and neither could anyone else. It was left behind once we paid and walked out. Well the beer was good and that's why two stars. Between the sour reception, the previously used wet menu, the "couldn't give a damn" attitude of the waiter, and the absolute crap quality of the flatbread, the other three stars are left in the dust. Appetizers were the star of the show here. The onion ring tower was fun and had enough to feed my table with kids included. One of the sauces is spicy- didn't try the other. The calamari plate was also piled high which is rare for most places that serve it. Came with spicy sauce and a tartar sauce. The tartar sauce was very sour, not my favorite. I tried the hot honey chicken sandwich. The chicken is really crisped up. Not a big fan of the pineapple slaw that they put in the sandwich- that with the pickles made it more sour than enjoyable. The restaurant offers a casual outdoor patio and expansive indoor dining space which is surrounded by a bustling open kitchen and sizzling pizza oven. Parking was a bit tricky, every spot in the lot or nearby was taken so I had to park a bit further and hike back but the trek was worth it. We sampled a flight of their rotating taps and opted for a hearty clam chowder. It was delicious, perfectly seasoned, meaty and a decent size portion. I would highly recommend giving it a try. I've been to the Pelican Brewing location in Pacific City dozens of times, and this was our first time visiting the Cannon Beach location. But the space is huge: there's a ton of indoor seating, and also a number of tables under a mostly covered patio. We sat outside since it was a sunny day, and loved it. It wasn't too loud or too busy even though it's right next to the main street. It's a casual spot that's family-friendly, and good for groups. FOOD: We ordered the onion rings to share. I had the shrimp tacos and my husband had the fish and chips. To be honest, we had no expectations, as we know coast restaurants are hit or miss oftentimes, and the food is usually just ok. I loved the shrimp tacos! They were cooked perfectly, had a little bit of kick to them, and the slaw was fantastic. The fish and chips were good -- not the best in this area, but definitely above average compared to the ones we've tried (and we've had a LOT of Oregon Coast fish & chips!). SERVICE: We were greeted right away and seated right away by friendly staff. Our waiter was great. He was helpful, kind, and attentive. PRICE: The prices here are on par with what you'll find at similar restaurants around town for this kind of food. I didn't think they were expensive at all compared to a few other spots, but they're definitely not the cheapest either. This isn't the place to go if you want creative or high end cuisine, but it's a great spot to get higher quality classic microbrewery food. For our lunch, everything hit the spot. We had lunch at Pelican Brewing, which was highly recommended by family members who love the place. We got Calamari to start, which we loved. We then got Chicken Piccata and Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich. The Chicken Piccata was good, we loved the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich. Pineapple in the slaw was surprising and I liked it. At that location, we loved their views, brews, and food. So we thought we'd give this PB location a try. The welcoming hostess took my name down and set us up with an inside table. They do take reservations by the way, in case you notice a long line waiting outside. We were seated within 20 minutes and served by Lyssy. She too was welcoming as well as helpful, as she made a few recommendations. My friend ordered the Tsunami Burger ($23.49) as a lettuce wrap, another friend ordered the Backyard BBQ Burger (23.49), and I ordered the Brewpub Cheeseburger ($21.49). Oddly enough, we all consumed it and said, "What the heck, why is my burger dry?" Were these burgers pre-made and just sitting around? My brioche bun was also dry, not buttery, but why does my patty have to be. We just didn't get it. Maybe we should've ordered their seafood items instead, idk. But unfortunately this was a "fail" on their food, or with their burgers at least. We never complained, but prior to leaving, I asked Lyssy about the root beer. She was kind enough to give me a sample that I decided to purchase a big 32oz can of it. Not only did I purchase the large can at ($16), but I also purchased bottles of their Kiwanda Cream Ale and Irish-sytle Red Ale. The two brews we love! When I got home, I decided to share the root beer and popped open the big can. IT WAS FLAT!!! Why? Why? Why? Overall, I debated between 3 or 4 stars, I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to give it a 3. Lyssy and the hostess were a 5-star in service. But the food and flat root beer were just a disappointment. It didn't justify the price. Had such bad stomach flu after eating the clam chowder, was so excited and hungry to discover cannon beach, we stayed at the hallmark so this was our first stop, wanted to try their clam chowder and salad the their Brie flat bread, later that night, my stomach was tossing and turning and I had to go to the bathroom several times, the whole week I had this stomach bug and the only thing I ate was the clam Chowder and salad. When I opened the black bean burger, I saw it had two patties in it. A black bean and a regular beef patty. This is after I specifically said "no meat" for this particular burger. Stopping at Pelican brewery is always a tradition for us while visiting Canon beach. We love the mix of fresh seafood dishes and classic /elevated pub style appetizers, flatbreads, and burgers along with their excellent brews. On our recent visit we ordered the beer sausage flatbread, dugneousuess Mac and cheese, cod Fish and chips, and clam chowder. The dishes are all very flavorful and savory and complement their in house drinks perfectly. Only complaints are the fact it's on the spendy side (although that's to be expected being in such a tourist beach area) that and the dishes (especially the chowder) seem a lot saltier than I remember from years past. Those complaints aside this is an institution on the Oregon coast and a great spot to just relax after a day at the beach. read more

After a long day on the east coast of Oregon, we stopped by around 7pm on a Monday. The place was packed! We decided to sit at the bar so we could get in right away. Menu has a lot to choose from. Expect to spend $23-$35 per plate. There were some options that were cheaper like a cup of clam chowder for $10, otherwise don't come here if you're on a budget. For my bowl of clam chowder, wife's Dungeness crab ravioli and one pink drink, total came out to about $62 before tip. Food was good, but not worth the price. Bowl of chowder wasn't even that much of a portion. I believe you're paying more for it due to the fact that it's next to the famous beach. Service was good, bartenders are busy so it took a few minutes to order. The bar was not quite clean. Crumbs everywhere that I had to kind of mop it to the side with the drink coaster and bar top was not wiped down, because I could still see rings and little puddles from beverages, so it felt like we sat in someone's leftover mess. Otherwise the staff were very nice. Upon receiving raviolis and soup, no utensils were provided until asked for. Overall based on the experience and everything taken into consideration, 3 stars is my rating. There are plenty of other spots to eat as well if you look into it, just about half a mile north. read more

SCW and I visited Cannon Beach during a break from wine tasting. We stopped into Pelican Brewing for lunch. A brief wait ensued before being seated. The restaurant is large and clean. Quite a nice spacious dining room with a view into the kitchen. We ordered some drinks then food. I got the wild mushroom lime bowl, SCW the house salad large portion. The food was good and I really enjoyed the red ale they produce. I did not like the prices and the lack of uniqueness to the establishment. Where would you logically go after a hot, full day of walking, photography, and visiting Tillamook Creamery for one of their three-flavor ice cream flights? Hmmm. Doggo was thirsty; we were thirsty, and in bad need of electrolyte replacement therapy (but only one)? Pelican Brewing! Finding a parking spot was dicey, so we had to walk a bit. Getting there, there was a bit of a wait to get in (instantaneous, compared to Tillamook Creamery where you wait in long lines for food or ice cream of 20 minutes or more!). We chatted with people; everyone loved our cute puppy who probably gained 1/2 a pound from all the dog treats other dog-owners gave her. A table opened up and we were seated in a very charming lounge area outside. The electrolyte replacement therapy commenced and it was the perfect antidote to walking 4-5 miles, bundled up against the strong beach winds. What was astounding was that in addition to the superlative, attentive wait staff, there were a couple of people who kept dog water dishes topped off. Thank you thank you thank you! Their clam chowder -- good enough to cause naughty dreams -- is absolutely the best! We almost made the mistake of filling up on onion rings (delish!); clam chowder, etc... but I ordered a spicy burger (Yow!), she had fish and chips, and we got a pizza for dinner later tonight. What we had was very good food, excellent in comparison to some of the fare we've had in Cannon Beach. Did I mention that service was excellent? No... it was superlative. Prices: this is a tourist town. Expect higher prices. Canon Beach is virtually deserted in the wet and windy winter and packed nuts-to-butts in summer where there are waiting lines to queue up for the next waiting line, sort of like Disney World, yanno? Overhead costs are year-around, and you have to still pay the bills in the winter. We didn't mind, and fully accept that tourist towns are pricey. (You want extravagant prices? Go to Washington, DC!) Five stars for most everything here: six stars for dog water patrol; clam chowder; a few lovely choices for electrolyte replacement therapy; the atmosphere and outdoor seating; and for the excellent server who pampered our doggo and kept us well-supplied. Holy sh*t! YES. This brewery is very-very dog friendly. They designate someone on "Dog Patrol" i.e. this establishment loves dogs and they service water bowls for our puppy dogs. Nice touch! The menu alters way up and beyond pub food. Yes. They've got it down. Emily and I ordered and were blown-away with what we got. I ordered the Tri-Tip sandwich with fries and my partner opted for the shrimp tacos. *Excellent Presentation! And.... under high volume none-the-less. The chipotle corn chowder is abdolutely killer! The tacos? Were immaculate. My tri-tip sammich? Was very well thought out. Proportionately filling. Um.... They friggin' kilked it! Very highly recommended. Pelican Brewing became one of our favorite spots during our stay. We actually ate here three times during our six-day vacation because everything we tried was consistently good. Over the course of our visit, we had the seafood pasta, crab ravioli, and flatbread pizza. Each dish was flavorful, well-prepared, and left us wanting to come back to try something else. It's rare to find a restaurant that delivers such consistency across multiple visits, but Pelican definitely did. The favors and freshness were top notch and would order that dish again and again Parking is a bit tough here but there is a small lot if you're lucky.
