My family and I have a rating system for all things, and this was a 7/10. Traditional food that hit the spot for a late night treat at your local taco truck. Tacos were piping hot and the serving size is spot on price. We ordered chicken and the fajita flour tacos; the beef was a tiny bit on the chewy side and the chicken was a little dry, but maybe we got the late night batch. Their green salsa was good but over all, it was good like home cookin, and we suggest bringing some salt. I called and the lady said I could come back for the remake. I've been a frequent costumer here for years now but it seems like recently the quality is going down. Last time I went I got food poisoning. I got a small chicken quesadilla and a burrito with half chicken and half fajita. I had asked for them to take the avocado off the burrito and they didn't. The wait is over. You know that wait you have to experience in awaiting for a food truck to finally open a full service restaurant? Yeah...the wait is over as Ruby Taqueria that sat at the corner of 290 and Huffmeister has finally opened up their restaurant location a little further up the street on Huffmeister. Even though I wasn't a fan of the food from the food truck, as it's not one that is ever driven off for a wash and it had chicken's running around everywhere, I was actually happy to see them opening up a restaurant in hopes that the food would be allot more fresh and served in a better environment. Well, I got the environment part right. When I tell you that the food is prepared in the EXACT same way as if they are in a truck...I mean it. The taste hasn't changed nor the quality. I walked up to the counter to place my order. The staff was nice and presentable but spoke very little English, but we made due. You can see directly into the kitchen as it's right behind the counter that you order from. Nice brand new kitchen equipment ready to makes some delicious fresh tacos right.. NOT. After placing my order of 6 tacos on flour tortillas, the lady in the kitchen pulls out this heated tray of already cooked food. It was only covered by aluminum foul. She took out some store bought tortillas and placed them on the grill to warm them up. Then, she took some tongs, reached into the aluminum covered serving tray and pulled out a pinch of meat to put on the tortilla. The waiting time was just as long as it would take to warm up a tortilla. About 45 secs after placing my order I had 6 tacos' in front of me. Which is also the same time it took for me to open a bottle of coke and pour it into my cup of ice and take two sips. What a waste of a perfectly new grill. What good does it do to move out of a truck but still run your business like you are in a truck? You're not, you are now in a restaurant so now it's time to shine and show customers how fresh cooked food actually taste from your chefs. This was a fail. Even the kids didn't want to finish their Tacos. We had to leave and go elsewhere to have some real Mexican food. Be forewarned before you go there that they only take cash. Yeah in 2013, still only cash. So as I said on my review of the truck I will say the same here. This food is for those who have gotten drunk and everything else is closed. Sad to say, but I would rather have the 2 for $1 tacos at Jack in the Box than sacrifice my tongue again here. Sorry Ruby's I really wanted to like you guys so much, but I just can't if you don't use the kitchen to actually cook to order. Epic Fail. read more

Not the best tacos I've ever had, but definitely not the worst either. Was craving tacos so I decided to give this place a try for lunch. Ordered 4 pastor tacos, a churro, an order of fries, 3 breakfast tacos for the mister (he's a big fan of breakfast even after noon) and a bottled water. Total came out to ~ $17, not bad at all! While we were waiting on our food, they were nice enough to bring us a basket of chips and salsa. Pastor tacos were just ok. There were lots of bits of extremely crispy and dry pieces of pork. The tacos were a bit on the smaller side but they were still filling. Lots of onions and cilantro and the hot sauces had a nice kick. The churros were delicious. Coated in cinnamon sugar and caramel. It was definitely my favorite part of the meal. Service wasn't bad. Order at the counter and there wasn't any language barrier. The food is made to order and was pretty quick. read more

This place was much better than I expected! Other reviews made me nervous...but reviews of Mexican food in Houston are a mixed bag. Some week give a negative rating to a place for selling true Mexican food (i.e., not Tex-Mex), so I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did! Just as I'd hoped this spot is all Mex and no Tex! It's definitely top 5 among Mexican restaurants I've tried in the nearly 3 years I've lived in Houston. I came from the Mexican food Mecca of Southern California, so it takes one heck of a burrito or taco to impress me. The beef fajita burrito here knocked my socks off! I can only think of 2-3 other places as good. The meat here is slightly less tender than some places, but it has the texture of true skirt steak like the carne asada I'm used to. And it's the best seasoned of any beef fajita in the area. I consider it equal with the other spots I'm comparing it to, because it makes up for in flavor what they have in tenderness. The beans, tortilla, and fresh vegetables inside were all great, exactly the kind of tastes that hit the spot when you want a homemade style burrito. The location is conveniently situated near 290, and the place is very casual. Prices are just about right. Don't come here looking for Tex-Mex dishes dripping with "queso." I ordered 3 maiez tortillas with papas, huevo & chorizo minus the cheese & 3 extra orders that my family got. It took about 15-20 min to receive our order. They come wrapped in foil in the order they were placed. The breakfast tacos were hot & definitely not preheated. They were small because I ordered mine in corn tortilla. They were filled with thin sliced potatoes, egg & chorizo-they were delicious! I thought the prices were reasonable. They accept cc must be over $5?. It might be because I love the truck, but I think this place is just as good or better! Its less greasy than the truck and gives you more meat. I love the green sauce and always order from here.
