Ruchi's is a hidden gem. We dined here back in November and I'm still thinking about this place! It's not super close to me or I'd be back already. The food is exceptionally flavorful; the garlic naan was fresh, and the lamb biryani and butter chicken were both cooked to perfection. We loved the aesthetic of the dining area. The chef even took the time to share his story with us, which added such a personal touch to the evening. My only 'complaint' is that I wanted a giant carafe of that mango lassi! Sooo good. Upon recommendation from someone, my husband and I went to Ruchi's as he was told the food was excellent. Well, it was! We had Tandoor Chicken, Madras Curry w/Chicken, Dal Makhani, Saag Paneer and Garlic Naan, intentionally over-ordering so we'd have some delicious leftovers for the next evening's dinner. The flavors were outstanding and authentic. This is a very casual cafe and even though there plenty of tables, we saw many people coming in to pick up to-go orders, not dining in as we and just two other people were on a Saturday evening. They do not serve beer & wine but it was totally ok for me to carry my tumbler of wine in, so BYOB if you want. I came with no real expectations and still ended up disappointed with the food. I got the chettinad curry and butter chicken. I usually order spicy but I got the mild for the chettinad because I wanted to share with my wife and she can't really handle spice. The Chettinad lacked flavor and depth. It was more spice than flavor which really threw me off. The spice didn't turn off, it was the lack of flavor behind it. The meat was tough and overly chewy. The butter chicken also lacked depth. The taste was off too. I couldnt really figure out what was wrong with it because I wasn't interested anymore after my first bite. The basmati rice was a huge let down. All white, no oil or spices and dry. I've had Indian food from quite a few places across Houston and this would probably be in my bottom two. Ruchi's is a small restaurant in a strip mall on Clay Road. You can't miss it because of the LED signs in the window. I decided to try something new during my visit to Ruchi's: Chettinad curry chicken. It was quite good. Definitely a different spice profile than what I'd had before, but I'm glad I tried it! My favorite sport: trying new Indian restaurants!!! This place is located in a strip mall in an area I've never been to before. The inside is nice and casual. We ordered a mango lassi and a vegetable dosa. The lassi was smooth and creamy and the dosa has a crispy shell and delicious filling with all the accompanying dipping sauces. We ordered butter and garlic naan, butter chicken, lamb korma and goat biryani. The naan was flaky and flavorful! The butter chicken and lamb korma were flavorful and fragrant. The goat biryani was bursting with flavor and had generous amounts of goat throughout. We finished our meal with a gulab jamun that was warm sweet. Food is great! I do recommend calling in or ordering at the store if you can't always dine in. I loathe the takeout websites fees lol. The dishes are already kinda pricey but it is the economy so I respect it. OTHERWISE the food is bomb and the two ladies that have helped me are always kind. I thought overall the food was good but it was a little on the pricier side for the ambiance. I ordered the mutter paneer and my boyfriend had the mango chicken curry. We both had medium spice level but the mango curry seemed a lot spicier, possibly because it's not tempered down by any cream. I did enjoy my dish a lot but neither of us was a big fan of the mango curry. I will say the chicken in it was very tender though. We also had the samosas and those were great, including the accompanying sauces. The garlic naan had really great buttery garlic flavor but it was on the crispier side instead of soft and fluffy. They had complimentary bottled water instead of from the tap. The meal was about $50 with tip, which I think is on the pricier side for casual Indian. Don't expect fancy but do expect good food. Don't need ambiance when it's tasty especially for the area it's in. Samosas were fresh and crispy. Say panner was creamy delishouness. The Andra curry was something new to me but medium had just the right amount of heat and hit the spot. The mango lassi was a welcome cool down with that heat. Very nice staff. Not a huge fan of the bottles water since I felt awkward asking for more and you will def need more if you increase spice levels. read more

I've always passed by this spot so I thought I'd give it try and I am pleased to say that I will be going here from now on when I am craving Indian food. This is a family-run restaurant and at first, I was worried that not many people come here since it's tucked away but during my dinner, I was happy to see many people came by for pick-up orders and a decent number of customers came to sit down to eat. The restaurant is decorated nicely inside and can seat a decent number of people. My friend and I ended up getting the chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and coconut ice cream for dessert. The chicken biryani's portion is generous! The chicken was a tad bit dry but the flavors were all there and went very well with the two sauces that came with. As for the chicken tikka masala, the presentation was well put together and it was absolutely delicious! But what really impressed me was the garlic naan. The initial bite was nice and crispy and is followed by a nice warm soft/doughy texture. And with the garlic and cilantro on top paired with the curry, I was blown away. The coconut ice cream was a great way to end the delicious meal. It was creamy/rich and I loved the dried rose petal and crushed pistachios on top. Just a heads up, they serve bottled water but it was no charge (though I'm not sure if it would have been extra if I wanted more). The service was welcoming and relatively fast which was great. This is solely regarding their tandoori chicken - I purchased 20 pieces of this (I think it was about $50) for my Thanksgiving dinner and it was EXCELLENT! All of my guests raved about the dish, and I was saved from making or buy and dry and tasteless turkey that we'd have to drown in gravy anyway. Really delicious Indian food! Very conveniently located by my parents, I saw this place and decided to place a to go order for dinner. We ended up getting the butter chicken, chicken tandoori, garlic naan, and veggie samosas. I got a mango lassi to wash it all down. Everything was fantastic. The chicken tandoori was a bit dry for my liking, but I dipped it in the green chutney that they provided. The butter chicken was the star. So delicious and flavorful and we would def order this again. I can't wait to try their other curries. The garlic naan was the perfect vessel for soaking up the extra curry in the bowl. This place is great! Food has a well balanced spice and not over powering. Cute little shop well decorated and clean. We had the Vindalo Chicken and Masala Dosa. So not sure if this should be an expectation, but there was no explanation of the menu or even what I ordered. The Masala Dosa came with a tomato dip, a coconut dip and it was cold, I don't know if it's suppose to be. It had a side of lentil soup and that was lukewarm as was the potato inside the crepe. I don't think this restaurant has even been opened for a year but man its poppin', the flavors, the service, everything. This gem of a spot is located within the Spring Branch area.. a part of town thats typically not known for Indian food. Everything about Ruchi's was perfect. Down to their service, warm environment and tantalizing food. Wow! I asked the Non-Indian servers if the chefs were Indian.. and she said yes.. in fact they are South Indian. Perfect! No wonder the Masala Dosa hit the spot. Huge, full of savory potato filling and complemented with coconut sambar, kurma, etc. Biryani was pretty good as well. Full of meat, spices and savory goodness. I was amazed at how much food was left over after everyone ate. The food was so delicious that everyone continued to peck at their plates. We got full quick, generous servings that were packed full of flavor. We also like the appetizers served in the beginning, potato veggie samosas that were complemented with green yogurt chutney and tamarind chutney. Lastly, we enjoyed the Ras Malai, a sweet cottage cheese dumpling dessert that's soaked in a milky saffron base, topped with crushed pistachios and dried rose flowers. Sweet closing to sum up a warm fun-filled night. All in all, everyone had a good time at this cute little spot tucked out in S.B. They have TVs with colorful music blasting, as well as food travel shows. Thanks for the warm service and wonderful hospitality. This is a pretty solid Indian cuisine spot in Spring Branch! The location was clean and had plenty of seating. My friend and I ordered the gobi manchurian, chicken tikka masala, and saag with lamb + garlic naan. I will say that the food itself was good, but the flavors of the gobi manchurian and the chicken tikka masala are not what I was used to (as someone who dines at Aga's frequently and has tried chicken tikka masala at other Indian restaurants). The gobi manchurian was not on the sweeter side, and the chicken tikka masala did not have a strong tomato based flavor. Both flavors were still decent, just not what I was expecting! I did really enjoy the garlic naan at this place, I thought that this was one of the best garlic naans I've had! The texture of the naan was perfect -- both light, fluffy and slightly crispy. The portions are big. Come hungry. Their goat is really good and well made. Authentic Indian cuisine. They make their own ice cream, I haven't tried it yet but I've read many great things about it. If restaurants didn't use so much artificial oils that make us bloated and full fast, I bet this place would be more packed. read more

I had seen other reviews about this Indian Restaurant in Spring Branch and have been meaning to visit as it's just 10mts from home. Finally made it and the reviews are on point. This little gem has only been opened 2months. We arrived just before dinner and were only the 2nd couple there. By the time we left it was half way full. I couldn't help but hear other customers saying they were there because of amazing reviews. Another customer coming in asked us on the way in if it was good because she had heard great things. Well, everyone was right. The place isn't big not tiny, It's just right. Is beautifully decorated with vibrant colors and is also very clean. I was a bit hesitant when it was time to order as I'm allergic to spicy food although I have had it mild in the past in other places. I mean MILD. Our server, Ram, was so sweet. He said they will do their best and if it's not to my liking they will work on the spice until is just right. My husband ordered the Masala Tea to start off. It looks like coffee but is not; the flavors were very good. We then ordered Crispy Garlic Naan, MILD Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb which had a little kick so I clearly steered away from. The Chicken Tikka Masala was just perfect. They are still in their soft opening stage. They only make a certain amount of dum biryani and ran out for the day, so we missed out! Their dal tadka, chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken all had the flavors I was looking for. Our mistake was ordering them mild because it was definitely missing that kick. But tbh...a lot of Indian mild is like burning hot for me...so I had to go mild to be safe. The service was polite and quick. This place is just slightly more expensive than the average Indian place. Ex. Their daal like 16 vs the 10-13 you'd typically see. However, their portions are not bad. The highlight for me was their garlic naan. It is thin and crispy with the perfect amount of butter. I've eaten lunch from here twice. Once by Uber Eats and the other time, I picked it up. Both times the food was well sealed and still hot by the time I sat down to eat. I've ordered Mutter mushroom, pepper cauliflower, chicken Manchurian, and butter naan. All meals were fresh and delicious! The staff is friendly, the restaurant is quaint and the dining room is very nice! It seems to get busy for lunch. Prices are on par with other Indian restaurants. GREAT tasting food!! Meals are served quickly - we've never waited long to receive our food. It's got a very nice interior and the service is ok - it is a pet peeve of mine when the waiter/waitress can't answer questions about the food. Specifically, saying "I don't eat that" in response to questions about what proteins go with what sauces is a fail if you're the only server/ person in the restaurant. The first visit we had a waitress who was able to advise us on the menu as the way you order is to choose from a list of proteins and a list of sauces or preparations. I don't think it is good practice to have a person working who can't assist diners with ordering - especially if the dishes are somewhat unfamiliar to your average non-South Asian guest. Otherwise, VERY nice food, atmosphere. We especially enjoy the goat & lamb dishes. read more
