Finally got around to trying the new menu last night, and I went with an open mind that it could actually be better, but it was awful. You know how metallica's first couple albums ripped so hard and then they insisted on staying a band but totally sucking going forward? That's what happened to my beloved Rudyard's. Fun place to hang out. Trivia and comedy night are fun week night activities and draw a solid crowd. Food and drink prices are normal for Montrose. Great drinks, food and service! Definitely a casual layback place to hang out with friends. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor fire pits on a chilly night. I highly recommend the Longbranch Sour and their oh so fabulous Gay-fil -A chicken sandwich!! Did not try the food. Came for the Riot comedy show. There were 5 different comedians that came on stage, and they all had a unique comedy skit. Not too many people came to the comedy show, but the ambience was nice. We also played darts downstairs which was fun, and it was a very cozy bar/ pub. Employees were very nice and helpful. This review is solely about the food, I can't speak for the atmosphere or service, so make of it what you will. My cheese steak has no visible cheese and the meat is pretty tough and gristly. The gravy is alright though! Certainly needed. The side of black beans is basically a soup. No whole beans, no texture, it's just thick bean liquid. And very obviously no salt. It tastes like something you'd feed your grandma on her death bed. With a little salt and a few dashes of hot sauce it made for a decent dip for the sandwich. The garlic knots are underwhelming. They have a pretty good texture but somehow even the parmesan sprinkled on them tastes undersalted, same for the marinara dipping sauce. Nothing about the food I've eaten tonight makes me consider ever ordering from here again. I'd probably drop in for a drink if I was in the area but will definitely seek out sustenance elsewhere. read more

The riot comedy club upstairs was cool. Nice vibe . We got there early and ate Chicken strips wife got were dry and over cooked Fish tacos I got were not bad . Lotta cabbage but very skimpy on the sauce . But the beans served with them were room temperature at best . It kinda gave me a good dive bar feel till I realized it was a dive bar in Montrose and the bar tab ended up being $178 for cans of wine, lone stars, two double bourbons and said food with some chips with pickle dip . I always judge a good bar by my ability to get drunk . As in if bartenders don't pay attention or are slow you will never catch a buzz . One bartender seemed very annoyed and disinterested at best. The other seemed busy doing shift change work and it was hard to get a beer . Once another bartender came on it helped some but even with not a large crowd at 6pm you had to tackle them to get noticed. Not once was I asked if I needed another drink or if I was good . Bartenders in the comedy club upstairs were very fast and paid attention though . I do give thumbs up to them read more

Ordered takeout, and order was completed on time. Fries were lovely and indulgent (just the right amount of seasoning and salt, and yes, the fries are seasoned with more than just salt). Since it was takeout, by the time I got home to eat the Gay-Fil-A sandwich + fries, the fries were soggy. I did not mind since they were still yummy. Ordering online was super easy, as was pickup. The chicken in the sandwich reminded me of a schnitzel since I believe they used cornmeal breading. It tasted great and stayed really well on the bun, but cornmeal breading is usually not my favorite. The breading held up well as a take out item. Previously I did not want to go back to Rudyard's due to the musty smell dampening my experience. I believe doing Rudyard's to-go fixes this for me and I will likely be back to try the pizza next time. read more

This is a super cool place! We went to the comedy last night. Jeremiah Watkins was absolutely hilarious. I originally got a table for 2 to hang out with a bud! But then another bud wanted to hang. So I checked and the show was sold out. I called to see if we could add my bud, and Zach told me we could and pay the online price at the door. Shout out to Rudyards staff and wait staff! Thank you! I recently have been coming to Rudyard's D&D event with BarHaven and have had the most wonderful experiences! The bartenders are friendly and have great recommendations and conversations, the food is creative and delicious (highly recommend the gay-fil-a or party potatoes), and the drinks are fantastic. While only a very tad bit pricey, the vibes, events, and food/drinks are worth it. read more

I've only been here to A) check out a show, usually LL Cooper or B) when my friend's bro is working behind the bar. That being said, I still like the joint and would recommend it to anyone who's into somewhat seedy pubs and small music venues. Other yelpers are right when they say it kinda smells (only when you first walk in though), but that's why I prefer to bolt it upstairs where it's usually less crowded and the music is o'playin'. It's mostly local acts you'll find, but on one occasion I came across a traveler from Cincinnati who was so good -- and equally cute -- I bought his album. Though in a later conversation, I found out he had a girlfriend who was just seats away from us giving me the evil eye. Pffff. The outdoor patio is small and chock full of smoke, so if you're a second-hand smoke complainer like me, just keep seated at the bar. While you're at it, rub elbows with a long-haired fellow and help yourself to a Lone Star on tap ... or a Jim Morrison shot (they've got root beer). I've yet to try their famous grub, but have that on my to-do list next time I go. Along with the aforementioned music showcases they bring in, Rudz also highlights an Adult Story Time reading session hosted by BooTown. Nothing but laughs and good times there. read more

I came here for a friend's birthday party. I like that there was parking right across the place. I can imagine if there was a good show going on it might be hard to find a spot. The place inside was kinda dark but as I went towards the dart area behold, light. I want to add that I didn't go upstairs to see any of the bands playing. We wanted to play darts and unfortunately the bartender was only able to give us one (she gave them all out to play). Alright, so here we are playing darts.. well dart. Lol. It was ok I guess. There was only one quarter table to play pool so we waited until one was available. They had pretty good mixed drinks. I had a chilli cucumber mule which was a basically a spicy moscow mule. If I'm not mistaken I believe it was a serrano chili cucumber vodka that gave it the extra kick. when I checked in I had a coupon for free chips and salsa, something i wish I knew before I ordered. I tell you everyone's food looked good, but the birthday boy and I only shared a basket of cheese sticks as we ate prior to arriving. It became harder for the bartenders to address us, but I mean, that's with any bar that's popular and busy. When I went to close my tab I had a guy who made awkward conversations with me, not in the shy guy type way, but in the creepy way. It wasn't a pleasant experience... I had my friend walk me to my car. He kept looking at me close my tab before approaching me. I think he was trying to get my name? I dunno, just one of those things. I think I would definitely come back here and watch a few bands, maybe play catch-up with friends. It's definitely a good hangout place. Even though I didn't order their famous burgers the cheese sticks I did have were good and the drinks were creative. The one thing I wish they had was the ability to open a tab without the need of keeping your card. I know a lot of places that are able to keep your tab open without having to hold onto your card. I've been going to Rudz since the mid-eighties & its unpretentious vibe & eclectic live music made it a great place to see a band or hang out on the patio on a beautiful weekend afternoon. In 2019, things changed abruptly. The owner, a former bartender that bought Rudz in the mid-90s, decided to bring in new management. They, in turn, fired almost all of the staff, many of whom had worked there for years. Long term customers were shocked at the callous treatment. Next on the list was an abrupt refusal to renew the lease for The Next Door Bar and Art Gallery, which had been there for 20 years and was a popular neighborhood bar that showcased many local artists. After 20 years as a loyal tenant, The Next Door's owner was given 30 days to vacate. Shortly after, the food editor for CultureMap, an on-line publication, wrote an article about the new upscale cocktail bar moving into the space. He said that this fabulous new place would "elevate" the neighborhood. Considering that he lives in Montrose, I was surprised by the negative comment about his own neighborhood. After many years as a frequent and loyal customer, I'll be enjoying myself somewhere other than Rudyards and have no plans to elevate myself in their trendy new establishment. read more

I didn't know what to expect from this place when I parked along the street...when I opened the door I knew I was totally out of place...but when has that ever stopped me from enjoying a place? I was way over dressed, more ready for a club then just a dive pub. I wasn't sure where I was going that night so I went ahead and went on the safer side. Now I know when I return dress more casually. When you enter there its just your basic bar, with darts, pool, and shuffleboards downstairs. Yes this has an upstairs. We didn't know until we asked the girl that seemed to be collecting money at the base of the stairs. We asked what's going on? She said they have a live band upstairs and there is a cover. It was later in the night and we had no clue who the band was so she gave us a "deal". She said it usually is 10 bucks each but let my friend and I in for 15 total. Upstairs you have another bar and a small stage with tables all around. The place was packed which made more sense since downstairs was a ghost town but there were no parking outside, so this was where everyone was. The band itself was just OK but if I would have liked their music I would have enjoyed it a lot since you can stand about 3 feet away from them. The drinks were dirt cheap and the music started to get much better as the drinks continued to be consumed. I will be back! read more

Female bartender disregarded me from the moment I stepped into the vicinity. I was completely aware of myself and she claimed I was too far gone. Never have I felt treated so poorly in a place that seemed so welcoming. I would think that a venue attempting to make a name for itself would go above and beyond the the standards of right and wrong. I have been to Rudyard's three times. The first time I ordered a hamburger and was vastly disappointed. It was....just not good. I was not going to return but a friend dragged me to steak night. Steak night blew my mind (which is why I went back the third time). The steak is expertly cooked, and the salad delicious. It is seasoned perfectly and is big enough to have a full serving and take the other half home. However, attention must be paid to the potatoes. Because they are cooking those potatoes in crack, mixed with heaven and topped with joy. They literally made me slap my friend sitting next to me. They are THAT good. And I'm not exaggerating one bit. Brittany and Brooke are wonderful servers who are both personable and fun. I have two complaints though: 1.) The music is AWFUL. They were kind enough to change it for us, but apparently 'Irish Pub' somehow translates to headbanger anthems of the 90's that just sound like screaming. I feel like this is the music people listen to before they shoot up schools or murder puppies. My Irish ancestors are rolling over in their graves. The vibe of the establishment would be greatly improved with a better playlist. 2.) I was SHOCKED when my two cans of wine were $10 a piece. The size of a Coke can, these two Pinot Grigio's cost me 20 bucks. INSANE. I looked up the can of wine and it's $4.29. So the markup of over FIFTY PERCENT will keep me from ordering wine again. Once proud venue has definitely seen better days. I visited afternoon of 8/22/2021. The first thing I noticed was the noise emitting from the speakers. I hesitate to call it music. It was that urban crap, nothing but ugliness and obscenities strung together and set to a bassline. Order a beer and it will be served to you in - are you ready? - a plastic cup. Why? Cheaper. Serving it in plastic means that they don't have to hire a barback. So I ordered the spinach artichoke dip. Lots of spinach, but little if any artichoke. I'm done with Rudz. read more

Fun little bar with big windows, patio, and separate "rooms" so you never feel like you're in too big of a space. Great beer list. Vegan meal option here is the beyond burger minus the mayo/cheese. We added avocado and it did the job. Next time I want to try the "not boring" salad minus cheese since it looked exciting! We got tots, which came with a little ketchup. My only reason for the 4 stars was the seeming reliance on single-use plastics. Our beers came in plastic cups, our ketchup came in plastic, I asked about a knife which was in pre-packaged three pack with fork and spoon brethren that we didn't need... felt guilty throwing all this in the trash as we left. Surely a dishwasher, bus tub, and set of glasses and silverware wouldn't set this place that far back? I get that times are tough with bars and COVID but I shudder thinking of the unnecessary waste this (popular) place creates. read more

This is definitely my favorite place to eat right now! Chef Anthony has elevated the cuisine from standard pub fare to rockstar status! They're making everything in-house, even the ice cream (rumchata is the tits!). I haven't tasted anything I didn't like, but some of my favorites are the grilled cheese (it has walnuts and pesto in it), the dill pickle dip is delicious, and their house made pastrami. *drool* I still want to try the fish and chips, and if you're looking for something light the "not a sh*tty house salad" is very good.
