    Parking lot views.

This place has become a jumping point for events, activities and plans in the area. Parking can be a bit tight during rush, or events. Service can be a little slow depending on the day and the crowd, but it's always been a good time. The food has always been good. We've done the appetizers, all solid. More recently we came through while they had street tacos. Both the chicken and the beef were very good. They have indoor and out door seating. I believe they are also dog friendly. Facility is clean, usually plenty of seating. The last two times I have been there they had networking events. Good spot for it. Also close to Washington and the heights.

This was my first time at Sawyer Ice House even though I have passed by it quite a few times living in the area. I had the opportunity to try it over the weekend. For a Saturday afternoon, there were a handful of people sitting inside, outside and playing a round of pool. It's semi indoor/outdoor with a large bar area and seating - high top bar, booth seating, lower tables, picnic tables, iron tables. You name it, it's probably there. The parking lot is smaller but that's because there's an apartment across the street, railroad tracks and the Sawyer Yards art gallery. Then across the other side is a shopping center with food and stuff. We sat at the bar and ordered food and drinks. I've been on the mocktails/zero-proof movement, so I had the dragonfruit mocktail which Mick made for me. Loved it so much that I ordered 2. Mocktails can be either too sweet or too tart, but this was the perfect combo. They don't have ginger ale but ginger beer. Not the same. I was surprised because most bars I've been to have at least ginger ale. The person I went with had the Eado espresso martini served in a short glass like an old fashioned. He liked it so much that he drank 4 of them throughout the time we were there. There's a cocktail list menu, but it would be nice to have mocktail versions. They have options like Heineken 0 and non alcoholic Blue Moon that I hear tastes pretty much like the same thing. Ritual makes zero-proof gin, tequila and rum. Please look into that. Anyway, they have plenty of beer on tap if you wanted as well. I liked the food. The beer-battered onion rings were not too skinny or thick cut. The breading stayed while taking a bite without pulling the whole onion out. The sweet potato fries were also delicious. What set it apart, really, was that spicy dipping sauce. It was so good. It was the same for the sweet potato fries and onion rings. I also had a chili dog. I liked the chili on it, and most importantly, they used a real beef hot dog. I just wish it was a little bigger. Haha. Doesn't have to be a footlong like Sonic but maybe a little bigger, especially since we halved it. I had enough of the sides to fill me up though. We took the rest of the sides to-go. Mick was nice enough to hold it at the bar while we played corn hole. There's a few activities to do like corn hole, board games, pool, and large Connect 4. The corn hole is folded off to the side with the bean bags in buckets, so you have to set it up. It was my first time playing, but I thought it was fun. I had the direction for the most part but just needed more oomph cause it was short a few times. Haha. I did land on the board and got it in the hole once. The patio lights can get in the way if you're throwing it in an arc, but it's possible to score without hitting it. There's plenty of TVs and a huge one at the bar to watch sports. Would love to see a couple here since it's so close. I thought the service was great. Shout out to Mick and Juan who took care of us and even took the time to chat and hang out after shift. I will say that it can get pretty busy, which it did around 4-5 pm. They could probably use another person at the bar. I waited a bit to close out. They have regulars who were hanging out playing pool and corn hole. The bartenders know them by name which is nice. A bonus is that the women's restroom is clean and has many stalls. I don't know what's up with the bad reviews, but I had a great time. I want to bring some friends over to hang out at this chill, local bar.

My husband and I stopped in for a round of drinks and to relax for a few minutes while bar hopping around Houston. The bartender was great and provided a lot of information about the area. He did not have the flavor drink I wanted in stock so he offered to make a mixed drink similar and it was delicious. Although we did not eat, the menu looked like it had a good variety.

The lights around the TV/screen are way too bright compared to the screen.

I had been curious about this place since during the pandemic when everything was shut down and I was spending hours riding my bike around the city and was curious what they were going to build there. The area has really changed in the last 10-15 years from the being more of an industrial area with some bohemian art studios to the yuppie/hipster wonderland it is today and while normally I am not a huge fan of gentrifying places that I once remembered fondly when they had character, seeing how sad the area was during the pandemic and what it's turned to now made me happy. Parking kind of sucks in this area during busy times but if you're willing to walk for a bit, it's not that bad. The good thing is once you are here, there are a lot of other places to walk to so you're not just stuck in one place. The bar itself is a pretty standard ice house with some indoor seating and a dog friendly patio. They have board games that you can take too if you're into that. Service was a bit slow on the day I was there with one bartender being a little overwhelmed. Given that they are a gastropub, it would be nice if they had some brewed iced tea too for people who don't want to just drink beer. The biggest pet peeve I have though is that big TV over the bar - namely the lights around it. The lights are so bright that it hurts your eyes to watch the TV so I wouldn't want to come here to watch a big game.

    Prosecco & Lager

After driving by Sawyer Ice House a few times when exploring the Houston Heights area, my friend and I decided to stop in for dinner and drinks. They had a parking lot right next to the restaurant that wasn't too crowded which was great. Once inside, we went to the bar to order. My friend asked for a lager suggestion and the bartender seemed to have no clue which lagers they even had and ended up bringing a beer that wasn't a lager. I also asked a question about a beer and the bartender couldn't answer it... I would hope they'd know what they sell a bit better. I ended up going with a glass of Prosecco. For food, we ordered: - Swiss Onion Mushroom Burger: Below average and pretty flavorless. Didn't think this could be messed up but I wouldn't order it again. The fries it was served with were also not great. - Nashville Hot Chicken: Not very hot and just an average chicken sandwich Overall, the ambiance was great but this isn't a place we'd visit again as the food was meh and the service was just Ok.

Stopped by this place after a short night bicycle ride. I've been here a few times, but only during the weekday and somehow always right before closing. We always usually just get a beer or two when hanging out here. I know they have cocktails -regular and frozen and a big selection of draft beers. As far as food, they do have a kitchen but unsure how late they are open. Service here is always good - never had problems. There's a big bar area with decent amount of indoor seating: there is also a huge tv right above the bar. Speaking of tv's, there's plenty inside and outside although I did notice that the outside tv's are only open during the weekend or when there's a big game. No big deal though, I could literally see the huge tv from the outside. The outside area is nice with plenty of tables. They also encourage your fur buddies to hang out in the patio which is always a plus! The beer I got tonight was from a local brewery and it was nearly $8.00. Maybe I should've gotten a lone star or something for cheaper, but for a post-ride beer that seems a little too steep for me. Overall, I like this place for the dog friendly patio and laid back atmosphere. Will have to try the food options next time!

They also have dog bowls and water for your pups if needed. The bartender/owner was great, she let me try a beer before committing and checked on me several times during my stay there. It's nice to see they added more seating and more personal touches to the place. There's artwork to purchase on the walls, more tvs, additional cans of seltzer or thc drinks if that's more of your style. I love how it's locally owned and brewed. They were having smoked wings. 6 for $10 or 10 for $15. Comes with chips, carrots/celery and ranch. They were quite smokey, a lil salty but still delicious. The vibes are chill and they had football on. All and all a great place to stop by for a beer.

We ended up being mostly the only ones in the brew house for most of the evening which was a surprise, we enjoyed the beers and the service. There is a local brewery that is inside the brew house, Turkey Forrest Brewing. We enjoyed the hazy IPA, cream ale, and a watermelon tajin ale they had on tap. They also have beers and canned beverages from a variety of other places and popular canned drinks too, to suit any preference. My boyfriend and I had a really fun time playing board games they had available and chilling out. There were also Halloween movies and a playlist playing. Seems like we were there on a slow night, they appear to have events throughout the week such as a run club and bingo nights. Definitely a fun, chill option in the area!

It's a nice lowkey neighborhood spot with a bar and outdoor seating as well. The ambiance was chill and casual which I am all for. They are pet friendly as I got to see some fur babies come in which is always nice. We started with some glasses of Cabernet and told our waiter we were celebrating my birthday. The food didn't take long to come out and was so darn good. It was probably one of the best steak nights I've had in a while. We had the ribeyes, mash potato, mac and cheese, green beans, and French fries. The steak was seasoned perfectly and grilled to the perfect temperature to my liking. We are still talking about it, I can't wait to come back and try their chimichurri sauce. We ended with the strawberry and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cheese cake. They weren't too sweet and just the right amount of richness. If they aren't on your list for steak night I definitely recommend!
