At this establishment I first saw a glimpse of the triple A alliance's enemy. It wasn't a good first date or meetup but the food was delicious. The devil was racist but polite. It made me miss the funny ones I used to know and love. I ordered chicken fingers. They were crispy and thick, heavy with batter. But high quality. Dill pickle sauce is super top shelf quality as well. Fish tacos were also decent. A bit skinny on the fish meat. Ambiance could have been a bit better, it was a bit haunted by PTSD memories of past experiences but other then this it was kind of excellent customer service. I had supper this evening at Rudy's Eat and Drink. Wednesday nights are wine nights ... 5 ounce glasses of wine were $5 and 9 ounce glasses of wine were $7. Right on! I ordered The Beef with garlic mash and no veggies. The garlic mash were good. The steak was okay. I ordered it medium well and it arrived medium rare (there was blood seeping). The best little Sconie pub you could ask for. Perfect old fashioned, fish fry, cheese curds. Bartenders were very attentive.

Went back recently for a dinner and I have to say that the place has improved drastically from my last visit. I'd like to give them 3.5 stars as some basic things were still lacking like offering water. I never understand places that do not offer water right away. I received my martini but some water would be nice. The server was really nice and personable but she seemed to be running off her feet so she didn't have time to focus properly on her tables. I don't blame her, just wish that there was better front of the house scheduling. Anyhow, the good part is that they finally got rid of that awful weird house wine idea called "Rudy's Wines." See previous review, if you wanted to order wines by the glass, you would get a description of the flavours but no name! You didn't know what grape variety it was, region, year, and winemaker the wine came from. The wines were horrible so gladly others complained as well and now they have wines by the glass that have an actual name to it. Thank goodness! And they got rid of that iPod ordering system which was super slow! I skipped appetizers as none of them appealed to me and the ones I didn't like from my first visit were still on the menu. I ordered "the Manhattan" ($26.95) - 9 ounce striploin that came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare, great grill marks, well seasoned without being overly salty and the veggies were deliciously cooked as well. I liked the vibe here, it was cool and casual. Most of the diners on the weekend were between 25-35 - I am so glad people my age are hanging out here instead of the ubiquitous Earls and Moxie's. read more

Went for dinner Wednesday night there.I have always had excellent meals at Rudy's. Recommended it to friends etc.Wednesday l ordered the French onion soup as a starter,average at best.For the entree l ordered the New York strip medium rare.I received it not medium but medium well,way overcooked to my liking.In the presentation they plopped the steak on top of the mashed potatoes. What a disaster the juices from the steak ran down into the mash and it became a watery mess.Very disappointed! read more

What a great spot! Rudy's is solid all around from the service to the food to the atmosphere. I came here with some colleagues before a Jet's game and the restaurant was enjoyably busy. What a lively ambiance, not too loud, great seating and not too crowded. The service was amazing. From being greeted when entering the establishment until the greeting and thanks on the way out of the door. We had an amazing server named Ali who was perfect. She was very knowledgable and gave great recommendations. She read the table well and made sure our glasses stayed full. The food was phenomenal.... We started with the Onion rings and I ended up with the duck wrap and sweet potato fries. All of us at our table were satisfied with our meal. Great food. I had the lamb curry rice bowl, which was excellent. Our waitress was super accommodating: my naan was overdone and she took it back and brought me properly cooked pieces without a word of complaint. There were a couple of vegans in our party with some very specific requests and she worked extra hard to get them exactly what they wanted. Everybody was happy. At first my mom was weary because she thought it was a gentlemans club... Far from it ! It's a great place to eat and have a beer or cocktail! My mom had a martini, she said was prepared how she wanted and I asked the wait staff to give me draft beer options that were lighter. All three recommendations were the right style of beer which I appreciated! We only were hungry for appetizers and enjoyed the onions rings and artesian platter thoroughly between the two of us. I ate here as part of a bachelor party celebration. We encountered slowed service but that was likely because of the size of our group. The food was mouthwatering delicious and the serving staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Rudy's would be a great place to start a night that includes other downtown attractions but frankly would also be great as a destination all to itself. Try it out before the wait for a reservation gets to be weeks long. read more

Portion sizes were HUGE. People ordering the steak were floored by how big their dish was. The steak huge and there were heaps of fries with it. The chicken on the menu was just that - a big piece of chicken. Even the salads were gigantic. Desert was great. If you have a small appetite, share something. Nice decor. It seems new and trying to be modern-retro style. The scene and crowd was lively. The menu had lots of options. Service was okay, but they forgot one of our orders, and that is always irritating, because then they scrambled to make it, and they didn't even give a discount or comp it. Decent place. Very disappointing! Dined as a party of eight tonight and three had meals that were inedible....over-cooked steak that was too salty to eat. The remaining five meals were at best mediocre. The Manager couldn't have cared less citing that the meat must have had too much seasoning and that he would let the kitchen know. He ultimately did offer to discount the uneaten meals by 20% which we considered inadequate. Really, we just wanted a decent meal. When we complained further he sent dessert which we did not particularly want but ate as we were starving. It was very good. Service was attentive and our waiter was very pleasant. Based on the poor quality of the meal and the attitude of the Manager It is highly unlikely any of our party will return even though we work close by. I do not recommend Rudy's. read more

Oh Rudy's - you're so cute but why do you have such slow service? I once waited 30 minutes for someone to take my drink order. However, the drinks are made to such perfection. Kudos to the bartenders. The food menu is decent and the patio is huge. Some nights they even have entertainment like a DJ and once we saw salsa dancers perform. Some of the food is good. I find that the bread in their burgers is really dry and bland to the point where it's noticeable. It also takes a long time to get your food there. The service there though is really good. Probably as good as Winnipeg service can get. read more

This was my disappointment for eating in Winnipeg. The service was average and probably the best thing about the experience. I had the pirogi plate. The server said that they were homemade. In this case, I would have preferred them to be made by a good chef at the restaurant. They had no taste and were very heavy. The sausages were OK. My husband had the chili bbq ribs. I will say that they were tender. The potatoes were cold and tasteless and the beans were cold and nasty. It really was a bad meal and I'm just wonderinig why I gave it two stars. We had a good experience here last evening. I've been here lots for lunch, but this was the first time for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the salmon, which had a great sauce. It was served on asparagus (properly cooked - still firm and tasty) and wild rice mixture. Wine selection was good. Ordered 2 salads and an appetizer, and after 50 minutes still nothing. The server didn't even check on us for a drink refill. Had to cancel the food order because we were heading to an event. Instead of apologizing the manager said "Next time, come earlier." I've worked as a server for years and would never talk to a customer like that. The manager is a DICK. Don't eat here, he's awful and the service suckkkkks. So many better restaurants downtown, like Deer and Almond, Easy India Company, Blue Fish, even Earls! Don't support this crappy place. We were visiting my grandmother in Winnipeg (91!), and wanted to go somewhere downtown. We didnt realize (being from out of town), that there was a concert going on at the arena next door. It was packed! We had looked up their menu online and were disapointed when we arrived that they have an 'event' menu which was limited and didnt have the items we were looking forward to. We were seated within 10 minutes and it started to empty out so was a little less noisy while we dined. The server was excellent, took time to recommend her favorites and describe the menu items. Our meals came and 3 out of 4 were excellent. Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Caesar salad, and the lamb shank were amazing. The steak sandwich, however, was not great. Very small for the price and not the most flavorful. If you are looking for a lively place downtown with loud music and crowds, and dont mind paying a pretty penny, then we would recommend Rudys. The food itself is good, although I was disappointed recently to find they've removed their Mac and cheese dish (used to be my favourite thing to order). They make some of the best calamari in the city (huge sharing portion with really tasty sauce drizzled on top), and I've always really enjoyed the cocktails I've had (Lynchburg Lemonade is my favourite). The ambience/decor of the restaurant is really interesting and classy as well, with a huge projection display on one of the walls showing old ads from the 60's, which can be quite interesting to read if a little distracting. The reason that I'm giving three stars is because quality of service, depending on who your waitress is, can be a bit of a gamble. I've had waitresses that were super friendly, attentive and warm, but did experience someone once who was pretentious, very rude and without a shred of warmth or humour. I really want to love this place, and I almost do...a few things to consider: The food is ok, nothing to write home about, the drinks are solid, and the staff and service is good. The physical space is fantastic and I love the section of the bar where you an sit across from your friends on the bar stools! It's got kind of a Mad Men feel to the atmosphere. Cool. However, the only thing stopping me from loving this place is the horrid selection of music they play. Seriously, terrible. One night we're having a drink, and they start playing this nasty music with super foul language (not that I mind that in music necessarily-but just not when I'm trying to relax and enjoy my night out), and it just ruined the overall experience. I asked for a real pornstar and he poured the 1/2 shot it in a glass with 7up??? Had the calamari for appetizer and mesquite steak , partner had the steak au poivre. Amazing food . Service was superb, music on the Friday nite is DJ'd. Wicked good! Parking is too be expected hard to find . Entrance way into Rudy's is inside hydro building and therefore no waiting outside or lack of space. Memorable ! read more
